Cheryl Eierman, 58
Cheryl Eierman, 58, of Norfolk, Neb., died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Her funeral service was held Wednesday at Norfolk.
Cheryl Anne Weston was born Dec. 4, 1945, at Huron to Ole and Beryle (Evans) Weston. She grew up at Redfield and attended Stewart’s School of Hairstyling after high school.
She later married Craig Eierman and they lived in Doland. She attended nurses school and received her R.N. degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen.
They moved to Norfolk where she pursued her career as a psychiatric nurse the last few years in a traveling capacity, enjoying positions in Los Angeles, Seattle, Yakima, Wash., and most recently at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband and children of Norfolk, and one sister, Nancy Ames of Miller.

Elsie Rogholt, 95
Elsie Rogholt, 95, of Charles City, Iowa, and formerly of Lake Preston, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Lake Preston Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Lake Preston cemetery.
The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
Funeral arrangements were announced by Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston.
Elsie Mae Torrence was born July 26, 1909, at De Smet, to Oscar and Ellen (Firth) Torrence. She graduated from De Smet High School.
She married Alto Rogholt on July 17, 1929, at De Smet. She worked for 25 years as a clerk and bookkeeper at Swenson’s Drug Store at Lake Preston. After her husband’s death in November 1991, she moved to Charles City.
She was a member of the Lake Preston Lutheran Church.
Her interests included bowling and also playing bingo with her friend Harriet. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by a daughter, Pat (Brian) Crane of Charles City; three granddaughters, Cheri Jaacks, Melanie Crane and Michelle Toman; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Ernster of Mitchell, and Julia Ryan of Oakes, N.D.; a sister-in-law, Beulah Rogholt of De Smet; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, and three sisters.

J.C. Wade — Flandreau
Oct. 3, 1938 - July 26, 2004
J.C. Wade, 65, died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Second Presbyterian Church in Flandreau. Burial is in the First Presbyterian cemetery. Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Wednesday with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau.
He was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Flandreau to Ross B. and Clara (Allen) Wade. He was a member of the South Dakota state baseball championship team of 1952. He graduated from Flandreau High School in 1956 and Northern State Teachers College with a bachelor of science degree in math and science in 1960. He taught at Beardsley, Minn., and at the Flandreau Indian School (1961-64) and coached the Flandreau Cardinals baseball team in the early 1960s. He went to the University of South Dakota to get a master’s degree in mathematics and then worked in Pierre as director of Indian education for South Dakota.
He worked in the Aberdeen area office in the department of education and then returned to the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Aberdeen. In December 1974 he became the superintendent at the Phoenix Indian School. He was director of Indian education — BIA, Albuquerque, N.M. He returned to the Aberdeen Area BIA (1987-91) and then worked in Washington as deputy director for the Division of Indian Education.
He retired in 1995 and returned to Flandreau.
He was a member of the Santee Sioux Tribe and the Second Presbyterian Church. He was director of the Second Presbyterian Choir, was a Flandreau City Council member, was a Tribal Council member, was Crystal Theater president, was adviser to the Smithsonian Society chairman and was president-elect for the South Dakotans for the Arts.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Jean M. (Gerald S.) Lane of Naperville, Ill., and Lynn R. Wade of Flandreau; two grandchildren, and four siblings, Ross A. of Flandreau, Don H. (Kittie) of Flandreau, Dorothy W. (A. Rolfe) Black of Santa Fe, N.M., and Dean E. (Mary) of Weatherford, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Walter E. Welch
(April 20, 1923 - June 16, 2008)
Walter E. "Tony" Welch, age 85, of Syracuse, NY; formerly of Madison; died Monday, June 16, 2008, at Menorah Park Nursing Home, Syracuse.
Born on April 20, 1923 in Syracuse, N.Y., he was the son of Walter J. and Helen (Hunt) Welch. He attended Onondaga Valley Academy and graduated from Colgate University in 1946 where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. In 1948 he received his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law where he belonged to the international legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi.
Tony joined his father as a member of the law firm Welch & Welch after passing his bar exam and in 1966 he became an Associate Attorney of the Frank H. Hisock Legal Aid Society. In 1970, Tony served as assistant corporation counsel for the City of Syracuse in addition to his private practice until he retired in 1986.
Tony remained in Syracuse for 65 years. He was president & chairman of the Central New York Chapter of the National Kidney Disease foundation, Democratic Committeeman of the Sixth Ward and Ward Chairman of the Thirteenth Ward. Tony was a lifelong sports fan. While an accident at age 18 cut short his participation in athletics, he was head cheerleader at Colgate University in 1944 and continued his enthusiasm for all sports, culminating in his becoming an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
In 1988, Tony moved to Madison, South Dakota where he made many friends and was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. During his latter years in the “Prairie State” he had Meals on Wheels delivered to him by a group of 5th graders and Tony was voted “favorite person to deliver to”. Tony remained in Madison until the fall of 2007 when he returned to Syracuse.
He was predeceased by his former wife Nancy M. Scherrer, and one son, Gregory H. Welch. Tony is survived by seven children, Michael (Joan) Welch of Syracuse; George L. (Frannie) Welch of Cheshire, CT; Nancy M. (Robert) Congdon of Groton Long Point, CT; David L. (Lisa) Welch of Syracuse; Sarah C. Welch (Mark Utter) of Ithaca, NY; Martha A. (David) Bugin of Camillus, NY; Mark A. Welch of Clearwater, FL; one brother, William H. Welch of Camillus, NY; two sisters, Patricia Burke and Anne (Joseph) Taylor both of Fayetteville, NY; former wife Margie M. Beck of Madison; four stepchildren, Mike McVey of Madison, Sherri Stassi of Madison, Ted Cizek of South Carolina, Sue Cizek of Madison, and 12 grandchildren.

John Patrick Merrick — Arlington
June 21, 1943 - Aug. 1, 2004
John Patrick Merrick, 61, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Madison (S.D.) Community Hospital.
Funeral services are Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Cathel Gallagher officiating. Burial is in the Arlington City cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church and before services on Wednesday. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the church. The family request that memorials be given to the American Cancer Society.
John Merrick was born on June 21, 1943, at Erwin, S.D., to John and Hilda (Trembl) Merrick. He graduated from Erwin High School in 1961. He served with the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1964, which included a tour of duty in Germany, and received an honorable discharge.
He married Janice Ashby on March 11, 1972, in Huron. He worked construction for Concrete Products for many years until changing careers to be a truck driver. He enjoyed working the last 16 years for B & G Trucking out of Madison. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially his granddaughter.
He survived by his wife, Janice of Arlington; a daughter, Stacey (Scott) Strenge of Lidgerwood, N.D.; a son, Daniel of Arlington; a granddaughter; a brother, Bill (Sandy) Merrick of Sioux Falls; three sisters, Autumn (Herb) Thomas of Huron; Yvonne (Ed) Shell of Hill City and Roxi (Keith) Hermson of Winner, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Evelyn Gramm, 88
Evelyn Gramm, 88, of Aberdeen and formally of Faulkton, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at the Bethesda Home in Webster.
Funeral services were today at the United Church of Faulkton with the Rev. Bruce Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Faulkton Ceme-tery under the direction of the Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton.
Evelyn Leimkuhl was born Feb. 19, 1916, to William and Anna (Schmig) Leimkuhl in Waubay. She graduated from Waubay High School.
On Nov. 24, 1938, she married Albert Gramm in Waubay. They lived in Pierre until 1941 when they moved to Aberdeen. In 1955 they moved to Faulkton where they lived for 36 years. She was employed by Western Telephone Company for 26 years. In 1994 she moved to the Manor Care Center in Aberdeen and in the last month to the Bethesda Home in Webster.
She was involved in many civic organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Auxiliary in Waubay, United Church of Faulkton and Lakeside Country Club.
She is survived by three sisters, Lucy (Vern) Froke of Perry, Iowa, Doris Kohlhoff of Waubay and Norma Richardt of Waubay; a sister-in-law, Donna Leimkuhl of Waubay; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; her parents; two sisters, Viola and Lorene; and two brothers, Ralph and Dean.
Pallbearers were Steve Froke, Jim Kranhold, Ryan Leimkuhl, Mike Lloyd, Larry Kohlhoff and Daniel Richardt.

Madonna Schlotterback

Madonna J. Schlotterback, age 77, of Madison, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Madison Community Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with burial at Winfred cemetery. Family Present 5-7 PM Friday with a Wake Service at 7 PM at Ellsworth Funeral Home. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Madonna Jean Moran was born March 24, 1937, at Madison to Don and Vera (Schmidt) Moran. She was raised in the Franklin area and graduated from Franklin High School. Madonna married Veryl Schlotterback on February 6, 1956, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Madison. They lived on a farm near Franklin and she was the cook at Franklin and Chester Schools for many years. Madonna later worked part time at Country Café in Madison and Buffalo Trading Post. She enjoyed bowling and having coffee with friends. Madonna was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

SURVIVORS: include one daughter, Janet (Tom) Park of Chester; three sons, Terry (Ann), Tom (Dee) and Tim all of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; two brothers, Mark (Mary) Moran of Lake Madison and Dean (Pauline) Moran of Pasco, WA; and one brother-in-law, Dale Svendsen of Trent, SD.

Harold Sorenson

Dec. 4, 1929 - July 30, 2004
Harold Sorenson, 74, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church rural Arlington with the Rev. Scott Miller officiating. Burial is in the Lake Preston City cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington and before services in the church on Tuesday. A Masonic service will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
Harold Sorenson was born on Dec. 4, 1929, at Arlington to Arnold and Anne (Christensen) Sorenson. He graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1948 and attended Yankton College for two years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War.
He married Mavis Melstad on Jan. 4, 1953. He farmed and was a salesman until his retirement. He was very active in community and church organizations: Masons, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Lake Whitewood Lutheran Church and the Arlington School Board. He enjoyed watching sports, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Mavis of Ramona; two sons, Scott of Arlington and Craig (Peg) of Centennial, Colo., a daughter Betsy (Brad) Lingbeck of Ramona; eight grandchildren, and a special cousin Kenneth Sorenson of Reno, Nev.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karla, and two special cousins.

Harvey H. Faulstich, 91
Harvey H. Faulstich, 91, of Miller died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller.
His funeral was Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller with the Rev. George Wieland officiating.
Burial was in G.A.R. Cem-etery.
Pallbearers were Terry Spilde, Lester Hargens, Casey Schultz, Ronnie Blachford, Paul Symens and Dennis Volek. The Reck Funeral Home of Miller was in charge of arrangements.
Harvey Faulstich was born Oct. 10, 1913, at home in northwest Hand County to Seibert and Ida (Weichel) Faulstich. He graduated from the eighth grade at Ontario School.
On Oct. 17, 1940, he married Dena Stoley. They lived and farmed in Ontario Township until 1998 when they moved to Courtyard Villa in Miller.
He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He served on the St. Michael’s and Orient Lutheran Church boards and the Ontario and Hand county school boards. He also served as local and District VII president of South Dakota Farmers Union and was involved with the Farmers Union Central Exchange and Cendak Rural Water.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeannine (Jerry) Maxwell of Frederick and Phyllis Bowersox of Watertown; a son, David (Robin) Faulstich of Highmore; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Christine (Elmer) Faulstich of Highmore.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers; four sisters; two children; and a grandson.

Lucille Evenson
Watertown
April 1, 1913 - Aug. 2, 2004
Lucille Charlotte Evenson, 91, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in Watertown.
Evenson, the daughter of Conrad and Gena (Vostad) Lee, was born on April 1, 1913, at Volga. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church at Volga. She graduated from Volga High School in 1931 and attended South Dakota State University for one year. She married Merlin Billington on Aug. 14, 1938, at Volga. Three children were born to this union: Wallace, Gene Marie and Dennis. Mr. Billington died Nov. 19, 1960, at Watertown.
She married Howard Evenson on July 12, 1964, at Watertown where they made their home. Mr. Evenson died in June of this year. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and GLCW, and was organist and choir accompanist for 35 years. She was also a private piano and organ teacher, a member of Chapter AV PEO, and a former member of the National Music Teacher Association, the South Dakota Music Teacher Association, Monday Music Club and the Watertown Concert Association.
She is survived by two sons, Wallace (Mary) Billington of Moundsview, Minn., and Dennis (Kathleen) Billington of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one daughter, Gene Marie Catron of Creedmoor, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Julie (Jay Dee) Locke of Sioux Falls, Cheryl (Jeff) Benjamin of Bismarck, N.D., and Carol (Tim) Moes of Watertown; two brothers, Everett (Monica) Lee of Rock Island, Ill., and Allen (Margaret) Lee of Wessington Springs; one sister, Florence Schade of Brookings; one sister-in-law, Lois Lee of Wessington Springs; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Merlin; her second husband, Howard, and one brother, Donald.
