Kay M. Ochsner

Kay M. Ochsner, age 71, of 1544 Quarterback Court, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Huron Regional Medical Center, after a ten-year battle with cancer and stroke. A private family memorial service will be held. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Beadle County Relay for Life or the Huron Country Club. Arrangements are under the direction of Kuhler Funeral Home.

Kay Marie Ochsner was born February 11, 1937, at Ellendale, North Dakota to Roy and Leila (Thorn) Clayton. The family moved to Aberdeen where Kay graduated from Aberdeen Central High School and then attended business school.

On May 24, 1957 she married Frank Ochsner in Aberdeen. From 1959 to 1974, they lived in Jefferson, Mobridge, and Philip and Mission. They moved to Winner in 1974 and lived there for twelve years before moving to Huron in 1986. Kay was a secretary at Trailwood Films in Huron for many years.

Kay’s hobbies included playing golf and bridge. She especially enjoyed traveling with Frank after his retirement, and spending time with her granddaughters. Her Pekinese dog “Mugsy” was a special source of comfort to Kay during her illness and treatment.

Her parents preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband Frank, of Huron; two sons, Scott (Deb) Ochsner of St. Paul, Minnesota and Steve Ochsner of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and two granddaughters, Amanda and Amy Ochsner.

Ryan T. Yost

Ryan T. Yost, 28, of Huron, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls after a short and sudden illness. His funeral service was at 2 PM Thursday, June 19 at St. Lawrence Community Church with the Rev. John Rasko officiating. Burial was in the GAR cemetery in Miller. Memorials may be directed to the education fund for Ryan’s children to be established at Wells Fargo Bank.

Ryan Terrence Yost was born May 14, 1980 to Terry and Cindy (Hines) Yost in Huron and joined one sister, Nichole. They brought him home to their farm South of Miller where Ryan was always truly at home. Ryan always had plenty of energy and this certainly showed as a young child.

Ryan attended Miller Elementary school from kindergarten through 6th grade. He began seventh grade at Stanley County High School in Fort Pierre. Ryan was a member of the SCHS Class of 1998 and was very proud to say so. He was very excited to attend his ten year reunion this summer. Ryan also attended Mitchell Vocational Technical Institute.

Ryan met the love of his life, Cole Schnathorst in 2000. Together, they had two sons and will have a baby girl in the next few months. Hayden Terrence Yost was born May 13, 2004. Hayden was the apple of Ryan’s eye. They were truly best friends and Hayden wants everything down to his flannel pajama pants to be exactly like Dad. Gavin Cole Yost was born October 24, 2007. Gavin kept Ryan on his toes the first few months but Ryan had just mastered the way Gavin wanted to be put to sleep. Ryan said he could feel him melt in his hands. Gavin’s eyes lit up with a huge smile when he saw his dad and he certainly paid attention as his dad would talk to him. When Cole and Ryan found out their third baby was a girl, Ryan was overjoyed but nervous that if his sons could talk him into anything, what power would his little girl have over him.

Family meant everything to Ryan. Anything could be solved over the dinner table and that is usually where you sat when you went to visit him. Like so many Yosts before him, Ryan loved racing. His dad raced the number 03 and Ryan followed suit with 03R street stock. His home track was Dakota State Fair Speedway and would sometimes travel to other tracks. Ryan and his friends were often found in his garage fine tuning the 03R or just talking track. Ryan was a lineman for Dakota Energy in Huron. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and his family at Dakota Energy.

Ryan is survived by his partner, Cole Schnathorst; his sons, Hayden and Gavin and unborn daughter, Harlow, all of Huron; his mother, Cindy Selting of Sioux Falls; his sister, Nichole Yost and fiance, Matt Leddon of Huron; his brother, Trent Selting of Sioux Falls; his grandparents, Edwin and Norma Yost of Miller; his grandmother, Marilyn Hines of Pierre; his uncle and aunt, David and Carol Hines of Rapid City; his aunt, Denise Yost of Miller; and his first cousins, Jayme, Jennifer, Amanda, Deidra, Serena, Sabrina, DJ and Caleb and their families.

Ryan was preceded in death by his father, Terry, who also left us suddenly when Ryan was only five years old. Ryan lived his whole life to be just like his dad, and they are now together. He is also preceded in death by his grandpa, Roger Hines, his aunt, Janet Hines and his uncle, Dennis Yost.
