Aloysius J. 'A.J.' Van Well

Hoven - Mass of Christian burial for Aloysius J. "A.J." Van Well, 93, of Hoven will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven. The Rev. Brian P. Simon and the Rev. Lance Oser will officiate.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home in Bowdle in charge of arrangements.

A wake service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.

He died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at the Holy Infant Hospital in Hoven.

Aloysius J. Van Well was born April 24, 1909, to Emma (Genteman) and Gerard Van Well in Hoven.

He attended St. Bernard's Parochial School in Hoven.

He then farmed with his parents near Hoven.

In 1946, he attended the Coyne Electric School in Chicago.

Upon completion of the eight-month course he returned to Hoven and owned and operated an electrical and plumbing business.

Over the years, he served the area as a plumber and electrician.

In 1964, he expanded his business by building a small hardware store near his home.

He married Ruth (Miles) Rausch on June 25, 1960, in Hoven. He retired 10 years ago and lived the remainder of his life in Hoven.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven and sang in the choir. He also belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters.

He enjoyed woodworking, restoring furniture, gardening, reading and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife of Hoven; five sons, including Arnie (Debra) Rausch of Laurel, Md., Donald Rausch and Reynold Rausch, both of Rapid City, and Larry (Tammy) Rausch of Blanchester, Ohio; one daughter, LaVonne (Earl) Kruse of Aberdeen; one brother, Lee Van Well of Hoven; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one in infancy, and two sisters.

Casketbearers will be his children.

Sister Katherine Scholtz

Aberdeen - Sister Katherine Scholtz (Sister Matthew), 66, a Sister of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died of cancer Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at Avera Prince of Peace in Sioux Falls.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Chapel, Presentation Heights.

The Rev. Ben Benzinger will officiate.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Spitzer-Osthus Funeral, 320 Sixth Ave. S.E., in charge of arrangements.

A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Presentation Heights.

Katherine Scholtz was born Sept. 6, 1936, to Doris (Fuller) and Leo Scholtz in Watertown.

She earned a nursing diploma from St. Luke's Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen in 1958, a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Marquette University in 1964, and a master of science degree as a Medical Surgical Clinical Nursing Specialist from Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y., in 1972.

She entered Presentation Convent in 1960 and made her perpetual profession as a Presentation Sister in 1967.

She contributed more than 40 years of healthcare ministry at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, St. Joseph Hospital (Avera Queen of Peace) in Mitchell, School of Practical Nursing in Sioux Falls, Queen's General Hospital in Jamaica, N.Y., McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, and St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.

She served in a variety of positions including head nurse, surgery supervisor, nursing director and as a teacher and clinical instructor.

From 1990 to 1998, she was vice-president of the Presentation Sisters in Aberdeen.

She then became Mission Services Coordinator of Special Projects at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

She enjoyed traveling, attending the theater and symphony, listening to classical music, visiting the ocean and parasailing.

Survivors include her parents of Watertown; and two sisters, Nina E. Scholtz of Watertown, and Mary Jane Scholtz Cantrell of Billings, Mont.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Casketbearers will be Don Cantrell, Loren Cantrell, Ben Cantrell, Dean Marske, Ron Feickert, Steve Sommers, Dave Arlt and John Porter.

John Price

De Smet - The funeral for John Price, 73, of De Smet will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in De Smet.

The Rev. Gail Arnold will officiate.

Burial will be in the De Smet Cemetery with Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet in charge of arrangements.

He died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in De Smet.

John Price was born Sept. 25, 1929, to Harold and Alice (Hough) Price in Parker.

He married Ardis Mellegaard on Aug. 23, 1948.

They farmed near Hurley until 1958, when they moved to a farm northwest of De Smet.

Survivors include his wife of De Smet; one son, Doug (Beth) Price of Redfield; three daughters, Susan (Jim) Kretchmer of Bancroft, Kathy (Dave) Heller of Aberdeen, and Lori (Art) Fullmer of St. Anthony, Idaho; one sister, Joan Boussu of Kerville, Texas; and 15 grandchildren.

Hazel Ione Flood Marshall

Eagle Butte - The funeral for Hazel Ione Flood Marshall, 76, will be at 10 a.m. MDT today at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte.

The Rev. Daniel Sheehan will officiate.

A second service will be at 3 p.m. CDT today at the Agar Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Onida Cemetery with Luce Funeral Home in Eagle Butte in charge of arrangements.

She died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at St. Mary's Healthcare Center in Pierre.

Hazel Ione Flood was born Sept. 19, 1925, to Joseph Emil and Mary "Mollie" (Weischedel) Flood in rural Sully County.

After her mother died in 1931, she lived with her father and sisters.

When her father died in 1934, she went to live at the home of her aunt and uncle.

She graduated from Agar High School in 1943.

She then went to Aberdeen to earn a two-year teaching certificate.

She taught in several rural Sully County schools.

She married Philip F. Marshall on July 25, 1947, in Trail City.

They continued to live in Sully County on several farms where he worked and she taught school.

In 1963 they moved to Eagle Butte.

She continued to teach in Eagle Butte, and was one of the first Headstart teachers hired in 1965. He died in 1972.

She worked for Headstart for 17 years, retiring in 1982.

In 1982 she became a first grade teacher with the C-EB school system.

She taught Headstart and first grade for 25 years.

She retired from teaching in 1990, but continued to substitute for many years until her failing health caused her to slow down.

In 1999 she moved to Pierre to be closer to her healthcare providers.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Eagle Butte, where she held several offices including deaconess and was a member of the church circles, the Birthday Card Club and the Chey Mor Reading Council.

She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 50 years, and held several offices including secretary and president.

In 1998 she became an honorary member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.

She enjoyed embroidering, sewing, playing Scrabble and cards.

Survivors include two daughters, Glenda (Joe) Nedved and Nancy (Kermit) Dupris, both of Eagle Butte; four sisters, Vera Seymour of Poolesville, Md., Alice West of Pierre, Minnie Mae Claggett of Rockville, Md., and Myrt Pearson of Agar; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one daughter, and one sister.

Paul V. Bonzer

Billings, Mont. - Paul V. Bonzer, 42, of Billings and formerly of Hecla and Oakes, N.D., died of cancer Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings.

His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shepherd Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Billings.

Burial will be in Shepherd Cemetery with Smith Funeral Chapel in Billings in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will begin Friday morning at the funeral chapel.

Paul V. Bonzer was born Sept. 4, 1959, to Robert R. and Irdene I. (Boadwine) Bonzer in Britton.

He grew up on the family farm near Hecla.

He graduated from Hecla High School in 1977.

He worked for Oakes Manufacturing in Oakes before moving to Billings in 1979.

He married Angela Magers on July 23, 1983.

He married Patricia Kuntz on Dec. 9, 1989, in Billings.

He was employed with Marketing Manufacturing until it closed in 1995.

He then worked with Elk River Concrete.

He loved to camp and fish.

Survivors include his wife of Billings; one son, Elijah Ray Bonzer of Billings; one daughter, Mandy Satre of Billings; his mother of Hecla; four sisters, Ann Bormann of Seattle, Joan Kutter of Huron, Sara Holland of Britton, and Gwen Planteen of Langford; two brothers, Lon Bonzer of West Fargo, N.D., and Cal Bonzer of Hallettsville, Texas; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his father, his paternal grandparents and his maternal grandparents.

Gertrude 'Gert' Mildred Fisher

Aberdeen - Gertrude "Gert" Mildred Fisher, 84, of Aberdeen and formerly of Mobridge, died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge.

The Rev. Bryce Fellbaum will officiate.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery with Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge in charge of arrangements.

A family service will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

There will also be visitation for one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Margaret A. Bradley

McAllen, Texas - Margaret A. Bradley, 68, of McAllen and formerly of Aberdeen, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the McAllen Heart Hospital.

The arrangements are pending with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., Aberdeen.

Donna Marie Reinhardt

Aberdeen - Mass of Christian burial for Donna Marie Reinhardt, 74, of 623 N. Lloyd St. will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 409 Third Ave. S.E.

The Rev. Lance Oser will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W., in charge of arrangements.

A liturgical wake service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday, all at the mortuary.

She died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
