MSGT. JAMES "J.C." MCDERMOTT
1931-2008
WARNER ROBINS, GEORGIA: MSgt. James "J.C." McDermott, 76, died Saturday, March 15. Funeral services were Tuesday, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church with interment icon following in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
MSgt. McDermott was born June 23, 1931 in Gleason to the late Cliff McDermott and Lora McDermott. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years and was also a member of the Aubrey Crocker Bible Class. A. U.S. Air Force combat veteran, he participated in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and received the Bronze Star. Subsequent to his Air Force career, he continued to serve his country as a civil servant at Robins Air Force Base. He retired from Robins Air Force Base after twenty-three years of service. He was a dedicated volunteer with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Helen Sees, Junior McDermott, and Frances Lyles.
Survivors include: his wife, Rush McDermott of Warner Robins; one daughter, Patty (Jim) Malpass of Augusta; two sons, Ricky (Karen) McDermott and David (Tonia) McDermott, both of Warner Robins; one sister, Dorothy Cooper of Kenton; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lavon Presson
1938-2003
McKENZIE - Services for Lavon Presson, 65, were held Wednesday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home with burial in Shiloh cemetery.
Mr. Presson died Monday, May 12.
He was born May 4, 1938 in McKenzie.
Survivors include his mother, Maxie Akers Presson of McKenzie; a brother, Robert D. Presson of Dickson; two sisters, Betty Sexton of Whitehouse and Judy Smith of Kingston Springs; several nieces and nephews.
His father, Robert D. Presson and a brother, Kenneth Wayne Presson, both preceded him in death.

Hoy Edward Mitchell
1939-2003
McKENZIE - Mr. Hoy Edward Mitchell, 63, died on Tuesday, May 13 at his home. Memorial services were conducted on Friday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Dilday Funeral Home East Visitation Room with Chaplain Dwayne Thomas officiating.
Mr. Mitchell was born December 6, 1939 in Caldwell County, Kentucky to the late Clinton and Francis Green Mitchell. He was a retired truck driver for Rollout Express.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Taylor Mitchell; two daughters, Susan Huddleston of Fairview, Kentucky and Beverly Mitchell of Penbroke, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Sindy Higgs of McKenzie; two stepsons, Troy Henson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Clem Henson of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; two sisters, Audrey Taylor of Cadiz, Kentucky and Virginia Lutz of Monroe, Texas; three brothers, Clift Mitchell of Cleveland, Texas, Fred Mitchell and Ernest Mitchell, both of Cadiz Kentucky and 10 grandchildren.

Betty Love Schultze
1940-2003
NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - Mrs. Betty Love Schultz, 63, died Saturday, May 10 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home with Ronald Wilkes, Roger Wilkes and Bendall Wilkes as speakers. Interment icon followed at Palmer Shelter cemetery.
Mrs. Schultz was born February 9, 1940, in Carroll County to the late Lee and Alma Rainey Wilkes. She was a retired accountant.
Survivors include two daughters, Daphne Berwanger of Parkersburg, Pennsylvania and LeAnne Crowe of Garland, Texas; two sons, Thad Cole of Jackson and Blaine Minasian of West Palm Beach, Florida; three brothers, Bendall Wilkes and Roger Wilkes, both of Nashville and Ronald Wilkes of Jackson and six grandchildren.

John G. Woodson
1931-2003
MEMPHIS - Mr. John G. Woodson, 71, died Tuesday, May 13, at the Methodist Hospital North in Memphis. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Larry Pinson officiating. Interment icon followed at Bethlehem cemetery.
Mr. Woodson was born July 23, 1931 in Bruceton to the late John T. and Evelyn Davis Woodson. He was retired from the United States Air Force; the Shelby County Sheriff's Department with 22 years of service and was a member of the Baptist Muldoon Church. His grandparents, Gordon and Daisy Delvin preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Helen Turner Woodson; two sons, John Michael Woodson of Gerald, Missouri and Mark Edward Woodson of Memphis; two sisters, Nella Woodson Powell of Eddyville, Kentucky and Frances Woodson Holley of Lexington, Kentucky; one granddaughter and one step-granddaughter.

Jessie Lee Wilkes
1924-2003
McKENZIE - Mrs. Jessie Lee Wilkes, 78, died on Sunday, May 18 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Graveside funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 20 at 4:00 p.m. at the Palmer Shelter cemetery with Brother Wayne Burton officiating.
Mrs. Wilkes was born on November 14, 1924 in Hickman, Kentucky to the late Elmore and Emma Weatherford Gaskin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ligie Wilkes and a grandson, Michael Jason King.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Allen of Huntingdon; two sons, Charles Wilkes and Billy Wilkes, both of McKenzie; one sister, Minnie Denning of Paris; one brother, Narvil Gaskin of McKenzie; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Dilday Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ada Hamilton Kirk
1906-2003
CEDAR GROVE - Services for Mrs. Ada Hamilton Kirk, 96, will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 21 in the Replogle-Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Flat cemetery in Carroll County.
Mrs. Kirk died on Sunday, May 18 at NHC Healthcare in Milan.
She was born in Henderson County, educated in the county schools and was the daughter of the late Jesse Hamilton and Maggie Kirby Hamilton. She was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Henderson County.
Mrs. Kirk was preceded in death by her husband, Bee Kirk, in 1976; a daughter, Bernice Booth; two sisters, Alzada Peterson and Dora French and three brothers, Hubert Hamilton, Wesley Hamilton and Warren Hamilton.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean Mallard of Stanton, Virginia, Iris Dale Crider of Lavinia and Betty Kee of Cedar Grove; two sons Johnny Kirk of Cedar Grove and Billy Kirk of Collierville; three sisters, Ottie Fisher, Hassie Hicks and Allie Fullerton, all of Lavinia; seventeen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary S. Haywood
1924-2003
YUMA - Mrs. Mary S. Haywood, 78, died on Monday, May 19 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press-time.
Dilday Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Colin Locke
2003
McKENZIE - Services for Colin Locke were at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12 at the McKenzie Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Tony Janner officiating. Burial was in the Caledonia cemetery.
The infant was stillborn November 10 at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
Survivors include his mother and father, Jessica Richter Locke and Dusty Locke of McKenzie; a brother, Mitchell Locke of McKenzie; paternal grandmother Mickey Locke of Memphis; maternal grandparents Kay and Kurt Richter of Russellville, Arkansas; paternal grandparents Bob and Gail Seratte of McKenzie; great-grandparents J.T. and Dora Seratte, Dorothy Jones and Dortha Kinslow and uncles Christopher Seratte, Shawn Stephens and Brandy Locke; two aunts Tabatha Stephens and Robin Casey.
McKenzie Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lonnie A. Bray
1916-2003
LAVINIA - Services for Lonnie A. Bray, 86, were at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 24 at Bodkin Funeral Home with burial in Hopewell cemetery near Lavinia.
Mr. Bray, a retired construction employee with TVA, died on Friday, August 22 at the Milan General Hospital. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethelene McMinn Bray; one daughter, Brenda Bray McMinn of Medina; three sons, Charles R. Bray and Travis W. Bray, both of Cedar Grove and James D. Bray of Lavinia; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Dennison and a brother, Tom Bray.
Memorials may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church.

Alfred Richard Cunningham
1931-2003
TREZEVANT - Funeral services for Mr. Alfred Richard Cunningham, 72, a retired construction foreman were Friday, August 22 at Cedar Avenue Chapel in the McKenzie Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Wilder's cemetery near McKenzie.
Mr. Cunningham died Wednesday morning, August 20 at his residence. He was the widower of Mrs. Roma Lee Henthorn Cunningham.
He was born April 1, 1931 to the late James Robert Cunningham and Mary Hunt.
Survivors include three daughters, Erika Denise Crews and Darlene Sue Lanham, both of McKenzie and Donna Myers of Ohio; two sons, Richard Allen Cunningham of McKenzie and David Lee Cunningham of Trezevant; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Also preceding Mr. Cunningham in death were two daughters and two sons, Linda Denke and Tammy Lynn Cunningham, James Robert Cunningham and Timothy Wade Cunningham.

Willie Ervin
1935-2003
HUNTINGDON - Mr. Willie Ervin, 68, died on Sunday, August 17 at the Huntingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dilday Funeral Home Chapel. Interment icon followed in the Carroll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Ervin was born on May 15, 1935 in Mississippi. He was preceded in death by a brother, Austin Ervin.
Survivors include his mother, Mae Francis Walker Ervin; four daughters, Lilly B. Jones of Louin, Mississippi; Sabrena Fillyaw, Tangelyn Winston and Elgeania Ervin, all of Chicago, Illinois; one son, Billy Ervin of Chicago, Illinois; three sisters, Lillie Mae Walker of Hazel Hurst, Mississippi, Flossie Ervin and Bertha LaMothe, both of New Orleans, Louisiana; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

H.H. 'Joe' Houston
1913-2003
GALLATIN: Services for H.H. 'Joe' Houston, 89, formerly of McKenzie, were at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20 at Brummitt Funeral Home with Bro. Aaron Holmes officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Mr. Houston, retired co-owner of Houston's Grocery died on Sunday, August 17 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin.
He was born November 26, 1913 to the late Sassie Fly Houston and William Smith Houston. He was a member of Pilgrim's Rest Presbyterian Church in McKenzie and a World War II naval veteran.
Survivors include a son, Jim Houston of Gallatin; three sisters, Ina Mae Berryhill of McKenzie, Pansy Martin of Gleason and Mary Frances Phelps of Waldren, Arkansas; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Marie Houston.
