Elizabeth A. "Granny Baby" Coryn, 78, a native of Virginia, died Tuesday June 28, 2005 at her residence in Memphis, Tn. She leaves a son, George L. Jennings and daughter in law Sharon Jennings, 2 grandsons, and one granddaughter, all of Cordova. Mrs. Coryn was the widow of Robert C. Coryn; he was a retired Marine Master Gunnery Sergeant. Mrs. Coryn retired after working for Bartlett Pharmacy for many years. Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. Saturday July 9, 2005, with a Memorial Service starting a 4 p.m. at Forest Hill East Funeral Home. The family will invite friends and neighbors at the memorial service to share special memories and stories about Mrs. Coryn. CLARA LUCILLE WEST CRUMP, 79, of Memphis. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Greater Mt. Moriah B.C., 1098 S. Wellington St. She leaves four daughters, Dr. Clara D. West Jones of Huntsville, Ala., and Evelyn A. West, Geraldine E. West and Darlene L. Newell, all of Memphis; four sons, Willie A. Canada, John W. West Jr., Plez J. West and Christopher E. Robert Young Fleming, 80, of Memphis, retired architect, passed away June 30, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital after a short battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne Fellman Fleming, his children, Susan Fleming Warner and Scott Fleming, and 5 grandchildren, all of Memphis. He is also survived by a brother, Dr. Eugene M. Fleming of Knoxville, and a sister, Eleanor Jacobs of Sparks, NV. Mr. Fleming was born in California and raised in Aberdeen, MS. He served in the Army 102nd Infantry Division in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in the Battle of the Bulge. In 1953 he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Architecture. Mr. Fleming began his practice with Thomas F. Fairies & Associates and later formed a partnership, Goforth/Fleming/Architects. In 1978 he founded Fleming/Associates/Architects, where he practiced until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Fleming served on the Tennessee State Board for Registration of Architects, as a master juror and member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, as chairman and member of the Memphis & Shelby County Land Use Control Board, and as treasurer of the Memphis Chapter AIA. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award given by the Tennessee Society of Architects and of the Gassner Award, the highest honor given by the Memphis Chapter AIA for outstanding contributions in the advancement of the profession of architecture. Among Mr. Fleming's design projects are Poplar Towers, the first high-rise office building east of I-240, Poplar-Briarcrest Office Park, and Houston High School. He also worked for over 25 years on various projects for the State of Tennessee. Mr. Fleming was an Elder Emeritus at Second Presbyterian Church and a member of Chickasaw Country Club. He was an avid vegetable gardener and enjoyed traveling and fishing. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, July 1, from 5-7 p.m. A private burial will be followed by a memorial service at Second Presbyterian Church on Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Second Presbyterian Church Foundation or the Church Health Center.

Feraydoon "Ferris" Hooshmand, 56, of Germantown, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital. Mr. Hooshmand was the Manager of Computer Base Training for FedEx. He was a member of Germantown Baptist Church, a graduate of the University of Memphis, and a member of the Society of Technical Writers. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m., July 2, 2005, at Germantown Baptist Church. He leaves his wife, Terri Hooshmond, his mother, Farokh Lagha Pour-Rasool of Tehran, Iran, a daughter, Arian Hooshmand, a son Ario Hooshmand both of Orange County, CA, 2 sisters, Fereshteh Hooshman and Farkhondeh Hooshman both of Tehran, Iran. THOMAS W. JENKINS, 79, of Memphis, training officer with the U.S. Army Depot, died Thursday, June 30, 2005 at St. Francis Hospital. Visitation will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Bartlett Funeral Home with services following at 11 a.m. Mr. Jenkins was a veteran of World War II, a graduate of Southside and of University of Memphis, and he retired from Old Defense Depot. He is survived by his wife, Annie W. Jenkins; a son Phil Jenkins of Houston, TX; a daughter-in-law, Janet Jenkins, also of Houston, TX; and a brother, James Jenkins of Huntsville, AL. RUTH E. POINDEXTER, 89, of Memphis, formerly of Phoenix, IL, passed, Monday, June 27, 2005 at her home. She retired from Union Carbide/Dow Chemical as an Inspector after 26 years of employment. The widow of Tennyson Poindexter leaves to mourn her passing a nephew, William N. Hampton of North Hollywood, CA, a niece, Ann Cheers of Chicago, IL; devoted cousins, Charlene McGraw, Alice Sandridge, Mildred Joseph, Mattie Oates, J.T. Oates, Barbara Jones, a host of loving relatives, friends and caretakers. Viewing will be held Sunday, July 3 at R.S. Lewis Funeral Home followed on Tuesday by Mass at noon at St. John's Catholic Church with interment icon in West Tennessee Veterans cemetery.

David L. Sledge, 81, died after a long illness at Baptist Memorial Hospital, on June 30, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia E. Sledge, 2 daughters, Patricia Altringer of Cody, Wyoming, Andrea Stark, and a son, David L. Sledge, Jr. both of Memphis. In addition, he leaves 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, William R. Sledge and Norfleet F. Sledge. Mr. Sledge attended Central High School in Memphis. He interrupted his college career to serve in the U.S. Army as a pilot, and later was in training to become part of the Underwater Demolition Teams, precursor to the Navy Seals. At the end of World War II, he returned to the University of Tennessee, where he attained a degree in Law, lettered in track, was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and was married . He worked most of his career for the L.T. Barringer Cotton Company as a cotton buyer, and later began his own firm, Sledge Cotton Company. He was a long time member of the Memphis Cotton Exchange and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Sledge had a true love of the outdoors. Mr. Sledge will be remembered as a caring and giving husband and father, learning the blessing of sacrifice during the depression and World War II. Visitation will be held at Canale Funeral Directors on Friday from 5-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005. Dr. William Farr "Chubby" Andrews, age 84 of Germantown, Tennessee was born on June 19, 1921 in Memphis, and died on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at his residence. He was a retired General Surgeon, where he practiced in Memphis at the Baptist Memorial Hospital for 50 years. Dr. Andrews was an Elder of First Evangelical Church of Memphis, Captain in the United States Army Medical Corp during World War II with the occupational forces in Japan. He was past member of the National Board of Young Life, Crichton College, Memphis Union Mission, Memphis Country Club, Love Worth Finding and Beaver Dam Hunting Club. He was also an active sportsman: envied winged shooter, enthusiastic angler, accomplished author, noted taxidermist, unrelenting photographer and traveled lecturer. He was the Memphis City High School Golf Champion in 1939, Captain of University of Tennessee Knoxville's Golf Team and Memphis City Handball Champion and City Tennis runner-up. These accomplishments paled in significance to him in comparison to his role as active church elder and lay leader. Since Chubby was a true lover of people, he always welcomed any opportunity to proclaim the faithfulness, grace and mercy of God, as he would say, "offered to all men through His Son Jesus Christ." His insatiable desire to proclaim the Word of God was also evidenced through his weekly teaching of his Sunday School Class of 55 years. This love of people was best demonstrated by his exemplary marriage of 61 years to Marje, their five children and spouses, 28 grandchildren and spouses, 22 great grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews and countless best friends... who all adored him ! He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Radford Andrews; five children, Dr. John and Leeba Curlin and their 7 children: Captain David and Mia Curlin, Mr. Dan and Marvi Gunn, Mr. Dan and Micah Lindquist, Dr. Farr and Kimberly Curlin, Dr. Howard and Michelle Curlin, Mr. John Reid and Laura Curlin and 2nd Lt. Caleb Curlin; Dr. William F., Jr. "Bill" and Janice Andrews and their five children: Mr. Eric and Theresa Volbert, Mr. Jackson and Margie Moore, Jr., Mr. William F., III "Will Andrews, Mr. Frank Andrews and Mr. Ben Andrews; Dr. Rad and Maureen Andrews and their eight children: Mr. Charles R., Jr. (Chuck) and Lydia Andrews, Mr. Hunter, Jr. and Sarah Smith, Mr. Cobb and Rachel Andrews, Mr. Stephen Andrews, Mr. Walter Andrews, Miss Mary Elizabeth Andrews, Mr. David Andrews and Mr. Williams Farr, II (Drews) Andrews; Dr. Hamp and Nancy Holcomb and their five children: Mr. Nathan and Clare Richardson, Mr. Hampton "Drew" Holcomb, Jr., Mr. Jay Holcomb (deceased), Mr. Sam Holcomb and Mr. Olti Mollaymeri; Reverend Steve and Paula Andrews and their four children: Miss Lyndee Andrews, Miss Nancy Andrews, Miss Helen Andrews and Mr. Stephen Jeffrey "Jeff" Andrews, Jr.; one sister, Elizabeth "Tish" Andrews Twiford of Clarksdale, Mississippi. Eastview - James Earl Gilmore, 74, of Eastview, TN died at his home, Wednesday, June 29. He is survived by his wife, Joann Clark Gilmore after 54 years of marriage, one daughter Mary Elizabeth "Meg" McCord, a son-in- law Michael K. McCord, 2 granddaughters Megan and Chelsea all of Memphis, a sister Joyce Gray and her husband James Opal Gray of Guys, TN; one sister-in-law Mary Lou Gilmore of Eastview, TN, the wife of his brother the late Homer Lee Gilmore. Mr. Gilmore was born September 2, 1930 in Tulsa, OK, to the Late Homer R. and Mary Dell Wade Gilmore. He graduated in 1949 from Messick High School in Memphis. He then joined the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was in the 8th Air Rescue and was a part of the Pilot Survival School which was taught in the Rocky Mountains near Reno, NV. His commanding General was Gen. Curtis LeMay. The squad was hand picked for their character and intelligence. After returning from the Air Force, he moved to Memphis and began a 25 year career as a Customer Service Representative with Memphis Light Gas and Water. He retired in 1980 and then moved to Eastview, TN, where He and his wife, opened Special Events Gift Shop in Selmer, TN. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Corinth, MS. He was a former member of Christ Church Episcopal in Memphis where he served as Jr. Warden for many years and was honored by the Men's Club for his years of service. Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the West Tennessee Veteran's cemetery at the Rotunda. The family request, in lieu of flowers, Memorials to be sent to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, P.O. Brighton - James Ray Strock, 58, former maintenance worker for Turner Dairies, died Tuesday at his daughter's home. He was an Army Veteran having served from August 1967 until March 1969. She was a school secretary, Westside High School for 20 years and Raleigh Egypt Jr. High for 9 years. ELIZABETH LAND JULICH DUNCAN, 79, died Friday at her home in Cordova. Born Mary Elizabeth Land on November 26,1925 in New Orleans, she was was the daughter of Dr. Benjamin Carroll Land, a Southern Baptist minister and Homa Lusk Land. She attended Blue Mountain College in Mississippi and graduated from Stetson University in Florida with a degree in English. She later received a Master's degree in Education from the University of Memphis where she worked for 25 years as an Academic Counselor. She was a long time active member of The Coterie, a women's philanthropic organization. She is survived by her sons, Arthur Wilson Julich of Jamestown, North Carolina and Alan Land Julich of Mebane, North Carolina, her husband of nine and one half years, Mr. William B. Duncan, her brother, Ben Land of Carrollton, Texas, and two grandsons, Brian and Kevin Julich, of Sanford, North Carolina. She is predeceased by her late husband, Dr A. Wilson Julich A member of Bellevue Baptist Church for over fifty years, she was a loving mother, wife and friend whose presence will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3 until 5 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and the service will be Monday at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society or Trinity Baptist Hospice.
