Lila Shelton Collins

Funeral services for Mrs. Lila Shelton Collins, age 92, of Centerville, will be conducted at 3:30 PM Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Kirk Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln cemetery beside her first husband Robert W. Shelton. Mrs. Collins passed away Friday, December 19, 2008, at Life Care Center in Centerville.

A daughter of the late Charlie and Pearl Shelton Tucker, she was a native of Lincoln County, retired from Serbin Fashions, and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her son Jerry Wayne Shelton and wife Joyce of Cedartown, GA, daughter-in-law Martha Shelton, grandchildren Regina Shelton and Ritchie Shelton and wife Nena, all of Centerville, brothers L.D. and J.W. Tucker, and sister Virginia Parks, all of Fayetteville. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her second husband Joe Collins, son Donnie E. Shelton, and sister Gracie Shelton.

Visitation with the family will be from 2 PM until time of service Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home.

James Render "Jim" Carden
2 March 1932 - 7 April 2009

Funeral services for Mr. James Render (Jim) Carden, age 77, of Mulberry, will be conducted Thursday at 11AM at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Ward officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in Farrar Hill cemetery in Noah, TN. Mr. Carden passed away Tuesday at Lincoln Medical Center.

A native of Coffee County TN, he was the son of the late John Russell and Miriam Milner Carden Mr. Carden was a veteran of the U S Army and retired from NASA . A graduate of MTSU on a basketball scholarship scoring 1069 points in 3 years, he loved woodworking, farming, Charlois cattle and hunting with his grandsons and granddaughters.

Survivors include his wife Carol Holland Carden, daughter Caren Carden Gabriel (Rick) of Tullahoma, son Chip Carden (Kelly H.) of Prattville, AL., sister Arlena Nickle (John ) of Albuquerque, NM brothers Milner Carden ( Martha), Bill Carden and John Emory Carden ( Carol)

6 grandchildren Sarah Gabriel, Caroline Gabriel, Harris Carden, Reed Gabriel, Healy Carden and Hayden Carden.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home, 213 East Market Street, Fayetteville, TN.

In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Bob L. Bryan
July 28, 1933 - May 9, 2009

Funeral services for Mr. Bob L. Bryan, age 75, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Van Johnson officiating. Burial will be held at 4 PM Wednesday in Hillsboro Methodist Church cemetery in Hillsboro with military honors. Mr. Bryan passed away Saturday afternoon at his residence.

A son of the late Leon and Verda Ruth Sartain Bryan, he was a native of Coffee County Bob served in the Navy on the Destroyer USS Blue during the Korean War and was involved in the testing of the atomic bomb. He was employed with Volkswagon during the first years of the “bug”. He then went to work as Service Manager with Honda in the early 80’s and was employed with Jerry Damson Honda until September 2008. Bob’s greatest loves are his family, his service to his country, and his involvement in the automobile business. He cherished the wonderful friendships he was blessed with through his work. His employer, Jerry Damson, and his customers have been such an important part of his life.

Survivors include his wife Sarah Burger Bryan of Fayettevile, sons Steven Bryan of Nashville and Matthew Bryan and wife Beth of Fayetteville, daughter Diane Florida and husband John of Murfreesboro, cherished grandchildren Morgan and Harrison Florida and Candice and Nathan Bryan, several sisters and a brother. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or WW II Veterans Honor Flight Attn: Tom O’Neal, 300 E. Auburn Ave., Springfield, Ohio.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday at Higgins Funeral Home.

Jerry Albert Harry
27 January 1931 - 19 June 2009
(Some sources say Jerry was born on 17 January 1931. The 27th is correct.)

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Albert Harry, age 78, of Fayetteville, will be conducted at 3 PM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hills cemetery. Mr. Harry passed away Friday evening at Huntsville Hospital.

A son of the late Lenpha Carl and Merle Shreve Harry, he was a native of Boonville, IN, a retired horseman, and a member of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Mr. Harry was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a former member of the US Trotting Association and TN Harness Horsemen. He was the fastest trotting record holder for Lincoln County Fairgrounds for 25+ years.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years Martha Maybelle Reese Harry of Fayetteville, children Dr. Mike Harry and wife Violet, Dan Harry and wife Jackie, Jerrie Lynn Harry Russell, all of Fayetteville, Susan Merritt of Brentwood, and Chris Harry and wife Maria of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren Patrick Harry, Emily Wiggs, Reese Harry, Heath Mann, Daniel Harry, Morgan Russell, Tarek Harry, Sarah and Abby Merritt, Tebin, Joshua, and Cristina Harry, 4 great-grandchildren, and sister Phyllis Myers of Kokomo, IN.

Visitation with the family will be from 1-3 PM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, attn: Tribute Gifts, Church Street Station, PO Box 780, New York, NY 10008-0780.

Woodrow Wilson Hill

Woodrow Wilson Hill, 84, a resident of Fayetteville, died Monday (June 8, 2009). A WWII Navy veteran, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary D. Hill; two sons and two daughters, Richard Hill, Greg Hill, Linda Clark and Cathy Hill; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Stile Sugg

Stile Sugg of Fayetteville died on Friday (June 19, 2009) at Lincoln Medical Center following an extended illness. He was 58. Mr. Sugg is survived by his sister, Ruby Taylor, sister-in-law, Annie Jean Sugg, and devoted friend, Wanda Jean Denham, all of Fayetteville. Funeral services were conducted Monday (June 22) in the chapel of Sledge Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie L. Leslie officiating. Burial followed in Pleasantview cemetery. Sledge Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Master Joshua Wayne Taylor, Jr.

Master Joshua Wayne Taylor, Jr., age two and one-half months, of Old Railroad Bed Road, Taft, died Sunday (June 21, 2009) in Boaz, Ala. Master Taylor was a native of Lincoln County, the son of Joshua Wayne Taylor, Sr., and Mary Beth Moore, who survive. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Brooklyn Nicole and Natalie Grace Moore, both of Boaz; paternal grandparents, Frankie and Sally Taylor of Taft; maternal grandparents, Roger and Joyce Weakley of Taft; and an uncle, Travis Taylor of Taft. Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 12 noon in the chapel of the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the New Grove cemetery. Visitation with the family was Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home. Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Katie Nell Sanders Wells

Katie Nell Sanders Wells, 92, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday morning (June 16, 2009) at Lincoln Care Center. She was the daughter of the late George and Sally Thrasher Sanders, retired from Lincoln Care Center and was a member of the Flintville Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Sybil Durham and husband, Frank, of Fayetteville; son, Coyce Earl Wells of Savannah; daughter, Mary Ellen Chamblee and husband, A.C., of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Chuck Allen, Joan Chamblee Fleming, Mary Jane Chamblee DeMurray, Troy Wells, Tracy Wells and Janet Chamblee Eichinger; four greatgrandchildren, Joe Allen, Jessica Hunter Fleming, Holly Wells and Timothy Wells; two great-greatgrandchildren; a special niece, Willa Jo Dye; and friends, Elizabeth Hansen and Carol Davidson. Graveside services were conducted Thursday at Pleasant Hill cemetery with the Rev. Milton Martin officiating. Higgins Funeral Home is in charge of the services.

Ruby L. Bowling

Ruby L. Bowling, 96, of Fayetteville, died Saturday evening (June 20, 2009) at Lincoln Medical Center. A daughter of the late William F. and Annie Lou Bradford McClenney, she was a native of Petersburg, a homemaker and a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a nephew and three nieces. Graveside funeral services were conducted Monday morning at Melson cemetery.

Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Floyd Wilson Price

Mr. Floyd Wilson Price went to meet our Lord, Monday evening (June 29, 2009) in Nashville, TN. Mr. Price enlisted in the Navy in January 1955, and served in USS Yorktown (CVS-10), U. S. Naval Air Station Barin Field, Foley, Alabama, Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and nine Years in Antarctic Air Development Squadron SIX (VXE-6) which was home based in Quonset Point, Rhode Island, and deployed annually to Antarctica, serving as the Senior Personnel Assistant. He was recognized for his accomplishments and contributions to the Antarctic Research Program by having a Peak named for him in the Antarctic, Known as “Price’s Peak”. Prior to his retirement in March 1975 he served as Personnel Administration Officer at the Navy Recruiting Station, Nashville, Tennessee, attaining the rate of Master Chief Personnelman. He was a partner in Plantlan, a plant store and greenhouse on Thompson Lane in Nashville, TN. He was men’s Clothing Department Supervisor at Castner Knott’s in Harding Mall and Hickory Hollow Mall in Nashville for 15 years. He belongs to the Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 110, was a Master Mason of Washington Lodge #5, AF&AM, Warrick, Rhode Island, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite mason, Providence, RI and member of the Al Menah Shrine Temple, in Nashville. Mr. Price was preceded in death by his parents Byrd and Lucy Price, brothers Jack, John Robert and Leslie Price, sisters Mildred Price, Thelma Street, Ruby Koonce, Inez Stephenson and Estelle Bell. He is survived by one brother Earl Price of Fayetteville, TN and sisters Rachel Bliss of Hammond, IN, Byrdie Dudley of Huntsville, AL, Wilma Golden of Fayetteville, Louise May of Howell Hill, TN and Bonnie Humphrey of Howell Hill, TN.., several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and a special friend and shipmate Rick Perez of Nashville, TN.

Graveside services will be held at 2PM Thursday at Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens In Fayetteville with Rev. Kirk Smith officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home prior to graveside services.

Higgins Funeral Home is in charge of all services.

Rachel Ann (Largen) Trentham
29 April 1920 - 17 July 2009

Graveside services for Mrs. Rachel Ann Largen Trentham, age 89 of Fayetteville will be conducted Saturday morning at 11AM at Wright's cemetery with Higgins Funeral Home in charge.

A native of College Park, GA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Sally Stevenson Largen and the widow of Wade Trentham, retired from Jonathan Logan and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Trentham is survived by her daughter, Joyce West of Fayetteville and one grandson.

The Trentham family will receive friends at Higgins Funeral Home after 9:30 AM.

Chester Clayton Whitfield
13 November 1930 - 9 September 2009

Graveside service for Mr. Chester Whitfield, age 79, of Fayetteville will be conducted Saturday at 10 AM at Stewarts cemetery with Bro. Billy Fowler officiating. Mr. Whitfield passed away Wednesday afternoon at Huntsville Hospital.

Mr. Whitfield was a son of the late Louis Ray and Bessie Mae Brooks Whitfield, a native of Lincoln County, an Army veteran who served in the Korean War, a mechanic, and a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years Gracie Lee Carson Whitfield, son Clayton Chester Whitfield and wife Andrea of Huntsville, AL, daughter Doris Jean Quick and husband Dwight of Fayetteville, five grandchildren, special sister-in-law Mary S. Bass, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers Billy Hugh Whitfield and Louis C. Whitfield.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Friday at Higgins Funeral Home.

Henrietta Elizabeth (Ward) Callaway
28 February 1921 - 26 September 2009

Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Elizabeth Ward Callaway, age 88, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Jim Rogers and Father Randy Hoover-Dempsey officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hills cemetery. Mrs. Callaway passed away Saturday at NHC in Columbia.

A daughter of the late Walter E. and Ruby Rose Ward, she was born in East St. Louis, MO and was a native of Chicago, IL. She was married to Samuel M. Callaway on February 28, 1946 in Roswell, NM. She and her husband moved to Fayetteville in 1963 to make their permanent home and made many life-long friends. She was a homemaker, an avid gardener and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. She was a member of the Fayetteville garden club, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church where she was a very active member.

Survivors include a son Mike Callaway of Fayetteville, daughter Shelley Callaway Hancock and husband Phillip of Columbia, grandsons Maj. Phillip Hancock, Jr. (USAF) and wife Heather of Ofallon, IL and Stuart Duane Callaway of Smyrna, great-grandchildren Benjamin Wade Hancock and Abigail Morgan Hancock of Ofallon, IL, niece Linda Gail Partridge and husband Walter of Homer, Alaska, nephew Walter E. Ward III and wife Gail of St. Louis, MO, and niece Karen Callaway and husband Tim Duncan of Dalton, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Samuel M. Callaway, her brother and sister-in-law Walter E. and Virginia Billings Ward, and a nephew Robert Ward.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday at Higgins Funeral Home. There will be an Eastern Star service at the funeral home Wednesday at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
