Alva Goldberg
Funeral services for Alva C. 'Al' Goldberg will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Patterson officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Mr. Goldberg, a general contractor/developer, founder, president and CEO of ACG, Inc., General Contractors, died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 54.

The East Ridge resident was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga, a member of the American Society of Professional Estimators, the Downtown Kiwanis Club and Southern and Tennessee Writers Association.

He was a published author of political and military history.

He was a board member of the Cherokee Council of Boy Scouts of America and a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, the Chattanooga State Board of Associates and various other civic and professional organizations.

He was an elder of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was a son of the late Glenn and Julia Daniel Goldberg and the brother of the late Herschel Goldberg.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Richard Goldberg; two sons, Richard C. and Steven R. Goldberg, both of Chattanooga; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Mitchell and Mrs. Wayne (Glenna) Wolfe, both of Chattanooga; a brother, Marvin D. Goldberg, Piqua, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 165 Hamm Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Jack Wagner
Jack Leach Wagner Sr. of Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at a hospital there. He was 70.
He was a lifelong Bristol resident.

Local survivors include a sister, Helen Wagner Harr, Chattanooga.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Central Presbyterian Church in Bristol with Dr. Thomas Hay officiating.

A committal service will be in Mountain View cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Blevins Funeral Home in Bristol.

Local arrangements are announced by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.

Winford Pickett
Winford Pickett, a retired electrician, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 74.
WinfordPickett A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he attended the Fellowship Church of God and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include two sisters, Johnnie Bowen, Chattanooga, and Ruby Kilgore, Sparta, Tenn.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn Swaggerty officiating.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Fred Williams
Fred Leonard Williams, owner of Williams Heating and Air, since 1962, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 75.
He was a native of North Carolina but had lived in the Chattanooga area must of his life, and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Mavis Williams; one son, Fred Williams Jr., Chattanooga; one daughter, Brenda Phillips, Hixson; one brother, Steve Williams, Lyman, S.C.; two sisters, Betty Johnson, Inman, S.C., and Ethel Tuck, Spartanburg, S.C.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were to be today at 1 p.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Akins officiating.

Burial was to be in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northside Baptist Church.

Nellie Tawzer
Nellie Mae Tawzer of Red Bank died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in a Nashville hospital. She was 77.
The Clay County native had lived in Chattanooga for 58 years.

Mrs. Tawzer was a volunteer with Moccasin Bend, was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Hixson and was active in Women on Mission.

Survivors include her husband, J.V. Tawzer; son, Don Tawzer, Chattanooga; daughters, Teresa Hawkins, both of Chattanooga, and Joyce Wood, Nashville; and seven grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Joe Evans and the Rev. Raye Maddox officiating.

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 4445 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343 or the American Cancer Society, 850 Fort Wood St., Chattanooga, TN 37403.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Oma Pinkerton
Oma D. Pinkerton of St. Elmo died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 86.
A native of Murphy, N.C., she was a member of St. Elmo Avenue Baptist Church where she served as secretary of the nursery, a member of the choir and the Lydia Sunday school class.

She was the widow of W.R. Pinkerton.

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Hill, St. Elmo, Loyce Fricks, Flintstone, Ga., and Carolyn Oliver, East Ridge; five brothers, Charlie and Ernest Decker, both of Murphy, Leonard and Claude Decker, both of Gastonia, N.C., John Decker, Baton Rouge, La.; two sisters, Opal Howell, and Ruby Wilson, both of Murphy; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Kittle and the Rev. Don Givens officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elmo Avenue Baptist Church Nursery Department, 4500 St. Elmo Ave., Chattanooga, TN 37409.

Zelena Wortman
Zelena E. Wortman died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 86.

She was a native of Livingston, Tenn., and had lived in Chattanooga most of her life.

She was a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Wortman; and sons, Leslie C. Wortman, Michael A. Wortman and Benton R. Wortman.

Survivors include a son, Bennie J. Wortman, Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Stella Ellis, Chattanooga, Crystal McDonald, Columbia, Tenn.; sister, Frances Ellis, Carabelle, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with the Rev. Taylor Castleberry and Bennie Wortman officiating.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Taylor Castleberry Mission Ministry, 1025 Landsdell Road, Chattanooga, TN 37412.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Whitley
Robert E. Whitley died Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, in a local hospital. He was 67.

He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Whitley; one son, Bobby Whitley, Chattanooga; one daughter, Karen Trent, Chattanooga; three brothers, Charles Whitley, Chattanooga, Arthur Whitley, Ringgold, Ga., and John Whitley, Chickamauga, Ga.; one sister, Elva Dannell, Chatsworth; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road, with Dr. Richard Mason officiating.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga National cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Billy Turner
DUNLAP, Tenn. - Billy Joe Turner died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at a local hospital. He was 60.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Sequatchie Valley Rescue Squad captain, a county commissioner, and director of Sequatchie County Recreational Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alberta and John Turner.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Allen Turner; a daughter, Tammy Barker, Etowah; two sons, Dwayne Turner, Jackson, Ky., and Scott Turner, Pikeville; two sisters, Wanda Brown, Georgetown, Ind., and Sue Harmon, Dunlap; two brothers, Harold and Jerry Turner, both of Dunlap; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. CST at Putnam-Standefer-Reed Funeral Home with the Rev. Herman Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Collier cemetery.

Earl Tulloss
DAYTON, Tenn. - Earl J. Tulloss died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in a Rhea County nursing home. He was 93.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with the Rev. M.T. Billinglsey officiating.

Burial will follow in Rhea Memory Gardens.

Burial will be today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
