Ray Sprayberry
Ray Roland Sprayberry of Chickamauga died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 85.
He was a longtime resident of Chickamauga and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
He was also a member of the American Legion Post 159.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Pauline Parham Sprayberry.
Survivors include five daughters, Kathy Stose, Acworth, Ga., Sue Bradley, Patricia Snodgrass, Martha Brown and Janie Teeters, all of Chickamauga; five sons, Dennis Sprayberry, Mickey Sprayberry and Tommy Sprayberry all of LaFayette, Ga., James Sprayberry and LeBron Sprayberry, both of Chickamauga; two sisters, Lillian Parham and Clara B. Hogue, both of LaFayette; two brothers, Sam Sprayberry, Chickamauga, and Leonard Sprayberry. Summerville, Ga.; and 32 grandchildren.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe with pastor James Sprayberry and pastor Wilton Grimes officiating.
Burial will be in Grand Center cemetery, Chickamauga.
Barbara Sweatt
Barbara Jean Sweatt of Hixson died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in a local hospital.
She was born in Detroit and she lived in Sparta, Tenn., before moving to Chattanooga in 1960.
She was a charter member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest L. Sweatt; two daughters, Shelah E. Sweatt, Germany, and Amber Sweatt, Charleston, S.C.; one son, Kelvin L. Sweatt, Chattanooga; one grandson and one granddaughter.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel, with the Rev. David Lee England and the Rev. Chuck Stewart officiating.
Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coulter Chapel.
Luther Thompson
Luther L. Thompson Jr. died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, in a local hospital. He was 72.
Services will be today at 1 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel, Lane Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mark Myers and the Rev. Patrick Buffington Sr. officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery with the Rev. John Collins officiating.
Harry Turner
Harry A. Turner died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, in a local health care facility. He was 79.
He was a native of Richard City, Tenn., and was a resident of Chattanooga for the past 50 years.
He was a World War II veteran and served in the United States Army. He retired from Swift and Company and was an associate with Volunteer Sales for 10 years.
He was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Turner and Jerry Turner; and one sister, Clara Garrett.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Turner; one son, Harry Turner, Collegedale; one daughter, Betty Mobley, Chattanooga; four sisters, Ruth Carmichael, Dot Loney, both of Chattanooga, Bess Springer, Portland, Ore., and Sue Fulkerson, Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers, Paul Turner, South Pittsburg, Tenn., Bud Turner, Cleveland, Ohio, and Don Turner, Chattanooga; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Fitts officiating.
Burial will be at Chattanooga National cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Valley View Chapel.

Sadie Watkins
Sadie Gass Watkins of Red Bank died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 89.
Services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with minister J.C. Watkins officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
Lena White
Lena George White of Salisbury, N.C., and a former resident of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., and Naples, Fla., died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in Salisbury. She was 97.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Franklin Turner White.
She attended Mississippi Women's College and Tulane University and she taught Latin in the Rossville schools.
She had her genealogical research on her Drake and Arrington families in North Carolina published in several books.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga.
She was Regent of the Chickamauga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as president of Tennessee Third District Dental Auxiliary, and was a former member of the Fairyland Garden Club and Lookout Mountain Study Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Stahle 'Jenny Jo' Linn, Salisbury, and Sally Ann Ward, Naples; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Forest Hills cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home.
Rosie Williams
Rosie C. Williams died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at her home.

George Young
George Young died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at a local hospital. He was 73.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Young.
Services will be held Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National cemetery with the Rev. Wilbert McClure officiating. The body will lie in state today at Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home, Central Avenue Chapel.
Lovell Evans
Lovell Evans of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, in a hospital there. He was 83.
Services will be today at 7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Louisville.

Liesel Lange, formerly of Germany and most recently of Chattanooga, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 78.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Heinz R. Lange.
Survivors include one son, Heinz Lange, Chattanooga; and four grandchildren.
