Linnise Sullivan Massie
Linnise Sullivan Massie, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, July 26, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, Jefferson Memorial Pink Ladies, Lost Creek Women’s Golf League, Jefferson Coffee Bowling League, Jefferson City Swim Club and Les Amies of Carson-Newman. She is preceded in death by her parents, W.Z. and Jessie Sullivan; brothers, W.Z. and James Sullivan. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ernest Howard Massie; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Richard Couch of Livermore, California, Joan and Danny Bolden of Jefferson City, Jill Massie-Braun and Ian Braun of Jefferson City; son and daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Janet Massie of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kristin Couch Walker, Erin Couch, Kevin Bolden, Kieran Braun, Nicholas and Elissa Massie; great-grandchildren, Devin and Dylan Walker; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 1, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with Dr. Gene Wilder conducting the service. Family and friends will gather Monday, August 2, at 9:45 a.m. in Jefferson Memorial Gardens for a 10 a.m. graveside interment icon service. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, August 1, at First Baptist Church prior to funeral services. Linnise was known for her deep love of and devotion to her children, grandchildren, and children in the church and community. As a tribute to and visual memorial of her love for children, a mural will be painted in the children’s wing of the First Baptist Church in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church Children’s Ministry Mural Fund, 1610 Russell Avenue, Jefferson City, TN 37760. Additionally, Linnise was passionate about supporting the cause of Autism research. Memorial gifts may also be sent to the Autism Society of America-East Tennessee Chapter, c/o Sara Hirtz, 10201 Green Spring Lane, Knoxville, TN 37932. Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, is in charge of arrangements.

Clint Qualls
Clint Qualls, age 33, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Hospital. He was a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a former patient of St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis. He is survived by his parents, Ray and Joan Qualls; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Cindy Qualls; nephew, Scott Qualls, all of Strawberry Plains; aunts, Edna Belle Gayle, Pat Pryor of Knoxville, Carolyn and Jackie Carter of Jefferson City, Jenny and Wilbur Brown of Strawberry Plains; uncles, David and Tammy Lee of New Market, Frank and Fleda Lee of Strawberry Plains, Darrell (Dave) and Cathy Qualls of Knoxville. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, at 8 p.m. at McCarty’s Mortuary with Rev. Shawn White conducting the service. Family and friends will meet at Friday, July 30, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Gardens for a graveside interment icon service. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, prior to the services at the funeral home. McCarty Mortuary, Knoxville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Beatrice Williams
Mary Beatrice Williams, age 91, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was a faithful member of Martha Davis Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Club. Mrs. Williams is preceded in death by her husband, Richard N. Williams. She is survived by her daughters, Jane B. Hannah of Memphis and Ann E. Williams of Jefferson City; grandchildren, Teresa and Derrick of Memphis; special friend, Geneva Tate and other relatives and friends. Family and friends will gather at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, in West View cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside interment icon service with Rev. Nathaniel Wilson, Jr. conducting the service. Friends may call at their convenience Friday, July 30, 2004, from 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City, was in charge of arrangements.

Kym Rahnai Blevins
Kym Rahnai Blevins, age 32, of Jefferson City, passed away last week at her home. Kym was a graduate of Jefferson County High School and Carson-Newman College. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Jefferson City and was employed by First Peoples Bank. She was an avid collector of pig memorabilia. Kym is preceded in death by her grandfathers, William Arthur Blevins I, and Raymond T. DeArmond; grandmother, Margarete Murrin Doll; step-grandfather, Eugene E. Doll. She is survived by her parents, Bill and Carolyn Blevins; sister, Suzanne Wilkerson; brothers and sister-in-law, Art Blevins and Alan and Shannon Blevins; nieces, Alex Belvins, Jaclyn Wilkerson, Sydney Belvins; nephew, Noah Wilkerson; grandmother, Ruth Wilson DeArmond; step-grandmother, Jean R. Blevins; devoted companion, Scott Seal; uncle and aunt, Ray and Barbara DeArmond; cousins, Robert DeArmond and Beth Labbe. Graveside interment icon services will be held Wednesday, September 1, in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, at First Baptist Church of Jefferson City with a Celebration of Life service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society or the American Red Cross. Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, is in charge of arrangements.

Wallace E. Bumgarner
Wallace E. Bumgarner, age 78, of Rutledge, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2004. He was of the Baptist faith and a World War II Army Veteran. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Lee Bumgarner; one sister and six brothers. He is survived by his sister, Hazel Gowen of Hot Springs, North Carolina; brother, Ferman Bumgarner of Rutledge; step-son and wife, Tim and Diane Jones; grandchildren, Derrick and Brandon Jones; great-grandchildren, Madison and Trevor Jones, all of Bean Station; several nieces and nephews. Graveside interment icon services were held Saturday, August 28, in Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Rev. Gary Satterfield and Rev. Lester Byrd conducting the service with military honors following. Fielden Funeral Home, New Market, was in charge of arrangements.

Andrew Madison (Andy) Hulick
Andrew Madison (Andy) Hulick, age 47, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, August 27, 2004, at his home from complications from a long battle with Juvenile Diabetes. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Morristown. In his early years he attended The First Baptist Church of Jefferson City. He received his B.S. Degree from Carson-Newman College with further study at U.T. Hospital in the Department of Cytology. He was an A.S.C.P Registered Cytologist, having been employed by Cumberland Medical Center, Crossville Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville, and Roche Biomedical Lab in North Carolina. His love of music was enriched and cultivated by special people, Patsy Burton, Louis and Mary Charlotte Ball and the late Jean Peoples. He is survived by his parents, Juanita and Donald Hulick of Jefferson City; brother, Michael Hulick; nephew, Michael James Hulick of Morristown; uncle, Sidney Majors; cousins, Jennifer and Melissa Majors, all of Marietta, Georgia. Graveside interment icon services were held Monday, August 30, in Westview cemetery with Dr. Sherman Vanaman conducting the service. Fielden Funeral Home, New Market, was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas E. Seaton
Thomas E. Seaton, age 76, of New Market, formerly of Greeneville, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. He was retired from Navistar Corporation. He is preceded in death by his parents, L.A. Seaton and Mrs. Winnie Miller. He is survived by his wife, M. Elizabeth Linebarger Seaton; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynette Seaton of Houston, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Ron Hammer; brothers, J.C. Seaton, Samuel Seaton and wife, Joan, Wayne Miller and wife, Marjorie, Jack Miller and wife, Dorothy, Andrew Seaton and wife, Charlotte; granddaughters, Sara, Mary Grace, and Jenna Seaton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 2, at 11 a.m. in Reformation Lutheran Church with Rev. Rick Ohsick and Rev. Michael Huntley conducting the service. Interment icon will follow in GreenLawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville. Dr. Robert Randolph “R.R.” Turner
Dr. Robert Randolph “R.R.” Turner, age 76, of Jefferson City, a longtime English professor at Carson-Newman College, folklorist, and pastor, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2004 at his home in Jefferson City. Dr. Turner enjoyed a nearly six decade relationship with Carson-Newman, beginning when he arrived at the Baptist school as an undergraduate from Coeburn, Virginia, in 1948. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in 2 1/2 years and completed a master of arts degree program at the University of Tennessee in 1955. He then joined the Carson-Newman faculty. He also taught folklore at UT in the mid-1970's. Carson-Newman gave him its Distinguished Professor Award in 1976 and its Lane Bryant Award for his volunteer service. Though Dr. Turner retired from the college in 1992, he continued to maintain an office in Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library and was known as the embodiment of gentility. Dr. Turner also served as pastor to Baptist and Presbyterian churches in Virginia and Tennessee. At the time of his death, he was pastor of Hebron Presbyterian Church in Dandridge. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Turner; daughter, Ellen Turner Gutierrez; grandchildren, Roberto and Viviana Gutierrez. A memorial service for Dr. Turner will be held Tuesday, August 31, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Gene Wilder conducting the service. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City prior to the services. Farrar Funeral Home, Jefferson City, is in charge of arrangements.

James Edward Wagner
James Edward Wagner, of White Pine, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2004, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville due to complications from cancer surgery. Mr. Wagner was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Air Force. He is survived by is wife of 51 years, Bernice H. Wagner; son and daughter-in-law, James E. Wagner, Jr. and Mary and their children. A private memorial service will be held in Jarnigan cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 871 Weisgarber Road, Knoxville, TN 37909. Farrar Funeral Home, White Pine, is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Paul W. Moore, Sr.
Rev. Paul W. Moore, Sr., age 89, of Knoxville, formerly of Strawberry Plains, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was a member of North Acres Baptist Church, a former pastor of Holston Memorial, Midway, Rocky Valley and Beaver Creek. Mr. Moore was a United States Navy Veteran and a retired barber. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Juanita Swanner Moore; brother, Ted Moore; sister, Myrtle Kitchen; aunt and uncle, Myrtle and Charlie Province. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Moore of Knoxville; daughter, Peggy Andrews of Inverness, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, P.W., Jr. and Mary Moore of Knoxville, Stanley and Veronika Moore of Gardiner, New York; grandchildren, Susan Branch, Wendy Hayes, Kelly Brutton, Mark Moore and Jon-Paul Moore; six great-grandchildren; special nephew and wife, Garry and Judy Swanner; step-daughters and husbands, Tena and Gilbert Waggner of Florida, Patsy and Marvin Curl of Jefferson City; step-son and wife, Dewey and Janice Ogle of Halls; six step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 3, at 8 p.m. at Fielden Chapel with Rev. M.L. White and Dr. Charles Hobbs conducting the service. Interment icon will be held Saturday, September 4, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Garden with Rev. Charlie Lynch and Rev. Arthur Pedigo conducting the service. The family will receive friends Friday, September 3, from 5-8 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Fielden Funeral Home, New Market, is in charge of arrangements.
