Bobbie Ray Williams
Bobbie Ray Williams, age 66, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie and Jesse Williams; brothers, Carl, Charles, and Clarence Williams; sisters, Irene Neal and Thelma Collins. He is survived by his son, Robert Eugene Williams; sisters, Dortha Jenkins of Knoxville, Betty Kathleen Wice of Talbott, and Alice Shelby of Norwood, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services were held Monday, April 2 in Hamblen Memory Gardens with Rev. R.J. Seal conducting the service. Arrangements by Farrar Funeral Home in Jefferson City.

Alma Roth Baskerville
Alma Roth Baskerville, age 91, of Gallatin, Tennessee, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Alexander Baskerville and Birdie Louise Withers Baskerville. Miss. Baskerville was a graduate of Gallatin High School and served as organist for the First United Methodist Church in Gallatin for fifteen years. She taught piano and music history at Carson Newman College for 26 years. After retiring in 1975, she continued to teach private lessons in her home and served as organist for the First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City until the early 1990's. She served as treasurer of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Tennessee Music Teachers Association; tour leader for the European Music and Art Festivals with National Student Association in New York; founder and first associate of the Danforth Associate Program at Carson Newman and as Carson Newman chapter president of Pi Kappa Lambda. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gregory; cousins, Mrs. Frances Bentley, both of Gallatin, David Bentley of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mack Bentley of Nashville, Nancy Bentley Cunningham of Franklin, Tennessee; a host of friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 27, at First United Methodist Church in Gallatin with Rev. Felix Snell and Rev. Malcolm Patton conducting the services. Interment icon was held in Gallatin cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alma Roth Baskerville Scholarship Fund at Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, to the First United Methodist Church in Gallatin or to the charity of choice. Newby Funeral Home of Gallatin was in charge of arrangements.

James Paul (J.P.) Cogdill, Sr.
James Paul (J.P.) Cogdill, Sr., age 62, of Walland, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.H. and Clara Brown Cogdill. He is survived by his wife, Paris Lewis Cogdill; sons, James Paul Cogdill of Georgia, Roy Lynn Cogdill of Walland; grandchildren, Heather Russell, Jamie Lee and Joseph Paul Cogdill; sisters, Nadine Presnell of Greenback, Wilma Haggard of Knoxville and Maxine Sizemore of Louisiana; brothers, Gerald Cogdill of Rockford, Phillip Cogdill of White Pine; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 4, at Berry Funeral Home with Rev. George Gilbert and Rev. Dennis Robinson conducting the services. Interment icon will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, in Valley Grove cemetery.

Charles Edward “Bud” Daniel
Charles Edward “Bud” Daniel, age 68, of Rutledge, passed away suddenly Monday, April 2, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Daniel was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death his parents, Chris and Elsie Hodge Daniel; sister, Mary Elizabeth “Cricket” Daniel; brothers, J.L. Daniel, Gene Daniel and Marcus Daniel. He is survived by his sisters, Dorothy Daniel, Bonnie Mills, both of Rutledge and Nancy Frankenberg of Baton Rouge, Louisana (formerly of Bean Station); brothers, Rayford Daniel of Rutledge and Jimmy Daniel of Jefferson City; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Smith Funeral Home in Rutledge. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Friday, April 6, in Sunrise cemetery for a 2 p.m. graveside interment icon service. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday evening prior to services at the funeral home.

Myrtle Hensley
Myrtle Hensley, age 83, of Knoxville, passed away, Monday, April 2, 2001 at St. Mary's Medical Center. Mrs. Hensley was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Hensley; brother, Virlin K. Wood. She is survived by his sons, Daniel Hensley, Ulyless Hensley and Clifford Hensley, all of Blaine, Isaac Hensley of Mascot, Tom Hensley of Knoxville, Sol Hensley of Union County and Patrick Hensley of Roane County; daughter, Ellen Hurst of Union County; sister, Inez Shaw of Strawberry Plains; special aunt, Ella Cain of Strawberry Plains; 31 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephew and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at McCarty Mortuary Chapel with Rev. J.W. Lusk conducting the services. Interment icon will follow in Strawberry Plains cemetery.

Mamie C. Killion Jealous
Mamie C. Killion Jealous, age 84, of Youngstown, New York, formerly of Dandridge, passed away, Wednesday, September 13, 2000. Mrs. Jealous was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Killion. She is survived by her husband, Carl Jealous; two daughters; three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Monday, April 9, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Hillcrest cemetery with Dr. Robert McCray conducting the services. Farrar Funeral Home of Dandridge is in charge of arrangements.

Ellis B. Mills
Ellis B. Mills, age 87, of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2001. Mr. Mills was a Veteran of The United States Marine Corps, serving during World War II. He had been a long time salesman and the former owner of M & M Associates. He is survived by his wife, Kate B. Mills; daughter, Sylvia Hailey of Nashville; son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Nancy Mills of LaFollette; grandchildren, Andrea Cantrell and Heather Elkins, both of Knoxville, Carolyn Blankenship of Florida and P.J. Hildebrand; great-grandchildren, Hailey Cantrell, Abigail Elkins and Andrew Blankenship; sister and brother-in-law, Ida an Clyde Price of Dandridge; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe ad Pat Mills of California, Hal Mills of Knoxville, Glenn and Gwendolyn Mills of Talbott, Charles and Betty Mills of Johnson City, Don and Sarah Mills of Farragut; several nieces and nephews. Interment icon was held Wednesday, April 4, in Tennessee Veterans cemetery with military honors provided by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. Rose Mortuary of Knoxville was in charge of arrangements.

J.G. Smith
J.G. Smith, age 72, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001. Mr. Smith was a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Community Chapel Free Will Baptist Church of Talbott. He was a retired employee of Berkline Corporation. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Smith; sister, Lura Belle Oaten. He is survived by his wife, Hattie Woods Smith of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Robin and Joy Smith of Talbott; sisters and brother-in-law, Lorene and Kenneth Day, Dorothy Wade, all of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Community Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Norton, Rev. Lynn Neas and Rev. Dennis Caldwell conducting the services. Family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5 prior to funeral services at the church. Interment icon will be held Friday in Community Chapel cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to, Community Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 7037 Maxwell Terrace, Talbott, TN 37877. Farrar Funeral Home of Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. D.H. Swafford
Rev. D.H. Swafford, age 82, of Dandridge, passed away Monday, April 2, 2001. Mr. Swafford organized and established several churches in East Tennessee area and founded Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as pastor for a total of 30 years. Rev. Swafford was director of Seeking The Lost Radio Ministry for 40 years and has spent many years as an Evangelist. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was preceded in death by his son, David Douglas Swafford. He is survived by his wife, Mildred C. Swafford of Dandridge; daughter, Barbara Russell of Shelbyville, Tennessee; grandson, Rev. Cannon Dean Carroll and wife, Tammy of Dandridge; step-son, Charles Carroll and wife, Judy of Galloway, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Mrs. David (Pat) Swafford of Harriman; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Joe Wiggins of Lenior City; sister, Lillie Leopper of Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Velma Swafford of Xenia, Ohio, Kathleen Swafford of Dandridge; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001 at Green Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Cannon Carroll, Dr. Bob Bevington, Brother Ennis Mills and Brother Alton Wilson conducting the services. Interment icon will follow in Hillcrest cemetery with military honors provided by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Family will receive friends Thursday, April 5 from 12 - 2 p.m. prior to services at the church. Farrar Funeral Home of Dandridge is in charge of arrangements.

Bryan Scott Thomas
Bryan Scott Thomas, age 26, of Seymour, passed away Monday, April 2, 2001. Bryan was a member of Saint Paul Nondenominational Church in Seymour. He graduated with honors from Hiwassee College in Madisonville and also attended Maryville College. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim and Vira Thomas, Hobert and Allie Helton; great-grandmother, Martha Helton; uncles, Glen Allen, Harold Glaspie and Jimmy Thomas; aunt, Ima Jean Justus. He is survived by his parents, Benny Ray and Carolyn Thomas; brother, David Ray Thomas, all of Seymour; aunts and uncles, Ada and Harold Cooper, Lois and Clet Ervin, Lowell and Helen Thomas, Ernest and Jean Justus, Kaye and Beecher Berry, all of Seymour, Alma Jean and Clon Matthews of Jefferson City, Berniece Thomas of Rutledge, Dale and Barbara Thomas of Monroe, Louisana, Joe and Sandee Thomas of Spokane, Washington, Kent and Christine Thomas of Brookfield, Massachusetts; several friends, cousins and loved ones. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 5, at Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville with Rev. George W. Ott, Jr., Rev. Michael Justus and Rev. Agnes Gilbertson conducting the services. Family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Family and friends will meet Friday in Chilhowee cemetery in Seymour, for a 10 a.m. graveside interment icon service.

Lelia West
Lelia West, age 90, of Claxton, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. West was a member of Claxton Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill West. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Carlos and Audrey West of Jefferson City, Bert and Marian West of Claxton; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dallas Green of Knoxville; grandchildren, Karen Breeden, Stanley, Marcus, Martin and Kim West, Renee Terry, Darren and Doug Green; 12 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 5, at Woodhaven Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Cassell and Rev. Rocky Johnson conducting the services. Family and friends will meet Friday in Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for an 11 a.m. graveside interment icon service. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home.
