Gertrude J. Satterfield, age 89, of Jefferson City, passed away Friday, July 26, 2002, at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jefferson City. Ms. Satterfield is preceded in death by her parents, Layfette and Fannie Johnson; husband, B.L. Satterfield; brothers, Willie, Tyler, Hubert, Leonard, Calvert, and Albert Johnson; sister, Arkie Johnson; nephew, Ricky Johnson; niece, Ruth Johnson. She is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Rosalee Johnson of Morristown, L.F. Jr. and Pauline Johnson of Jonesboro, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and John Martin; special friend, Judy Collins; several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 28, at Westside Chapel with Rev. Jim Dampier conducting the service. Graveside interment

Earl J. Stokes
Earl J. Stokes, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was devoted member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents, Doss and Texas Stokes; sisters, Pearl Simpson and Mary Taylor; son, Hillard “Snooky” Stokes; granddaughter, Rhonda Porter; grandson, Shawn Jones. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Billie Stokes; sons, Raymond Phipps, Sanford Stokes, Jeffrey (Deana) Stokes, Earl and William Stokes; daughters, Barbara Kyle, Christine (Judson) Kyle, Patricia (Thomas) Daniels, Alfreda Phipps, Shelia Jones, Michelle Stokes, Delinda (Brian) White, Paula Stokes; brothers, William Nichols, Howard Stokes; sisters, Ann Farr, Marion L. Treece of Delaware and Vivan Smith; brothers-in-law, Dean Simpson, James (Mattie) Moore, Richard & George Moore; devoted sister-in-law, Lethia (Terry) Yeary, Paul and Linda Moore of Jefferson City, and Margaret Stokes; 29 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and host of nephews and nieces. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ. Interment

Nancy Dianne Cheaves Morton, age 57, of Florida, passed away at her residence on July 28, 2002, after a brief illness. She was a charter member of Indian River Presbyterian Church in Florida. She is preceded in death by her parents, Z. Lee and Jane Cline Cheaves. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Allen Kent Morton; daughters and sons-in-law, Tamara and Chuck Cordell of Lake Mary, Florida, Cynthia and Steven Reimer of Kyle, Texas and Lisa Morton of Yorba Linda, California; son, Steven Morton of Lake Mary, Florida; grandson, Chance Reimer of Kyle, Texas; granddaughter, Chloe Cordell of Lake Mary; brothers and sisters-in-law, Scott and Andrea Klein of Lexington, Kentucky, T. Michael and Marianne Cheaves of Jefferson City; nieces, Sarah Cheaves, Alexia Klein; nephews, David Cheaves, Paul Klein; and a host of friends. Annabelle Frazier, age 85, of New Market, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Jefferson County Nursing Home. She was a faithful member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, Strawberry Plains OES #418, Jefferson City Senior Citizens and Golden Nuggets. Mrs. Frazier was a retired Fuller Brush salesperson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sallie Frazier; sisters, Lucille Frazier, Velma F. Cannon, Ruby Frazier; brothers, Clarence, Clyde, James and John Frazier. She is survived by her nieces, Bonnie Frazier Solomon, Grace Cannon Collins, Judy Cannon Cook, Sandy Frazier Covert, Becky F. Finley; nephews, Ralph Frazier, Fred Frazier, John Frazier, Steve Frazier, Roger Frazier; sister-in-law, Ruby G. Frazier; brother-in-law, Harold Cannon; several great-nieces and nephews. Sydney Langston Goldfinch, age 90, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2002. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Eugene Goldfinch, Sr. and Grace Pearl Langston Goldfinch; wife, Sarah Frances McCaw Goldfinch; sister, Nancy G. Spencer. He is survived by daughters, Leila G. Bass (Ralph) and Lura G. Munoz' (Julio); sons, Sydney Langston Goldfinch, Jr. (Nancy), Albert Louis Goldfinch (Maureen), Francis Larue Goldfinch (Liesse) and James Lee Goldfinch (Judy); sister, Marjory G. Ward (Dalton); brothers, Albert Eugene Goldfinch, Jr. (Melda), Charles William Goldfinch (Christina) and James Bennett Goldfinch (Mocelle); 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Margaret Rachel Merritt, age 81, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Monday, July 29, 2002. She was a member of the Thorn Grove Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lillie McCarty; former husband, Claude Merritt, Sr.; son, Frank Merritt; daughter, Betty Thornton; and brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Oran Glenn; son and daughter-in-law, Claude, Jr. and Judy Merritt of Maryville; daughter and son-in-law, Lillian and Ronnie Brewster and Rhonda and Kenny Maner; son-in-law, Garry Thornton; step-sons, Paschal Glenn and Mike and wife, Brenda Glenn; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special friends, Bill and Emma Anderson and special sister-in-law, Ernestine Merritt. George Curtis “Curt” Schultz
George Curtis “Curt” Schultz, age 72, of Rutledge, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2002, at UT Medical Center. He was a retired teacher and coach and a lifelong resident of Grainger County, and a lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Carson-Newman College and received his Master's degree from E.T.S.U. He taught at White Pine School in Jefferson County, Russellville School in Hamblen County, and Washburn School in Grainger County. He is preceded in death by his parents, George C. and Hazel Christine Heim Schultz; grandparents; several aunts, uncles, cousins, close friends and neighbors. He is survived and remembered by his brother, Carroll Heim Schultz; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Cate Schultz; niece, Terry Schultz Fowler and husband, Tracy; nephew, Douglas Michael Schultz, all of Morristown; aunt, Alta Heim Clark of Rutledge and U.V. (Vic) Heim, Jr. of Maryville; cousin, David Heim of Jefferson City and numerous cousins; and several neighbors and friends. Mr. Bruce (Pops) Whitney, Sr.
Mr. Bruce (Pops) Whitney, Sr., passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2002 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a WWII veteran, who served as a Bandsman in the United States Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division in the Pacific. Later he served over 24 years in the US Post Office in Beaufort, South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Olive Whitney and son, Charles Bruce Whitney, Jr. He is survived by his sons, Luther A. Whitney and wife, Martha J. of San Antonia, Brian F. Whitney and wife, Claudia of Eureka, Missouri and Donald S. Whitney and wife, Chris of Deming, Washington; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, John F. Whitney and wife, Florence, of Quincy, Massachusetts; daughter-in-law, Carole Whitney of Talbott; sisters-in-law, Barbara Ann Cummins of Beaufort, South Carolina, Betty Sprouse of Temecula, California and Daphne Whitney of Franklin, New Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends at First United Methodist Church.
Carl Eugene Childers, Sr.
Carl Eugene Childers, Sr., age 78, of Dandridge, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2003, following a brief illness. He was a retired truck driver who had served in the US Navy and WWII. He is preceded in death by his wife, Irene Jane Frazier Childers. He is survived by his children: Rosemary Evon, Carl Eugene Childers, Jr., Lloyd David Childers, Mark Douglas Childers and Carol Sue SanGiorgio; step-daughters, Doris Hegemeir and Ann Howes; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 2, at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Emmert conducting the service. Interment
was held in Dandridge Memorial Gardens with military honors given by the Volunteer State Honor Guard. Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge, was in charge of arrangements.

Nancy Carol Doughtery, age 62, of White Pine, passed away Friday, January 31, 2003, at her home. She attended Ebenezer Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Olive Turnbull Delauter. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ronald Doughtery of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Nancy Doughtery of Mohawk, Rick and Tina Doughtery of Morristown; daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Jim Brooks of Talbott; grandchildren, Heather Trent and Savannah Brooks; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Richard Barnes of Berea, Kentucky; stepfather, Harry Needham of Hershey, Pennsylvania; and four nieces. According to her wishes, her body was cremated and a private family memorial service will be held. The family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to Covenant Hospice.
