Tennessee, U.S., Delayed Birth Records, 1869-1909
BESSIE EUGENE WHITTEN, 81, of Memphis, homemaker, died of heart failure Tuesday at Wesley Highland Manor. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel with burial in National cemetery. She was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Whitten, the widow of George E. `Bill' Whitten, leaves a sister, Ginny Thomas of Mobile, Ala.; a granddaughter who cared for her, Jana G. Slemons of Memphis, and a great-granddaughter.

JOHN `TINABEE' WISE, 81, of Memphis, formerly of Jackson, Tenn., retired construction worker, died of heart failure Friday at Methodist Hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Progressive Baptist Church with burial in Browns Creek cemetery in Haywood County. Cosmopolitan Funeral Home in Jackson has charge. Mr. Wise leaves a daughter, Sherry Hoover of Memphis, and a sister, Opal Bingham of Jackson.

DR. JACK ELMORE DOUGLASS, 94, of Jackson, Tenn., retired ear, eye, nose and throat specialist, died of heart failure Wednesday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Ridgecrest cemetery. George A. Smith & Sons Funeral Home North Chapel in Jackson has charge. He was an Army air corps veteran. Dr. Douglass, the husband of Martha McGehee Douglass, also leaves local survivors including a son, John Elmore Douglass of Memphis. The family requests that any memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

FRED L. BAGLEY, 57, of Memphis, died of cancer Thursday at Methodist Hospital. M. J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home has charge. He leaves a companion with whom he lived, Annie E. Moffitt; two daughters, Marchel K. Garmon and Melvinnie Bagley, and three sons, Lafayette Bagley, Kenneth J. Bagley and Rev. Quentillis Bagley, all of Memphis; his mother, Flora M. Bagley; three sisters, June M. Talley of Holly Springs, Miss., and Mahalia Miller and Patricia Jack, both of Memphis; a brother, Gregory L. Bagley of Holly Springs, and nine grandchildren.

FAIRYE V. BELT, 92, of Arlington, homemaker, died of heart failure Wednesday at her home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Macedonia cemetery. Munford Funeral Home Millington Chapel has charge. She was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. Mrs. Belt, the widow of J. W. Belt, leaves a sister, Margaret Powell of Millington; two brothers, Reed Kelley of Arlington and Luke Kelley of Cabot, Ark., three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

STELLA LOUISE BOWEN, 54, of 305 S. Bellevue, homemaker, died of cancer Tuesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital. N. J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home has charge. She leaves a daughter, Cora A. Bowen of Memphis; four sons, Robert Dewayne Bowen, Curley Maurice Bowen and Johnny Bernard Booker III, all of Memphis, and Jerry Bowen Jr. of Springfield, Ill.; two brothers, Curtis Jones of Memphis and Robert Tabb Johnson of Los Angeles, and four grandchildren.

WILLIAM ANTHONY BOWLES, of 868 S. Fourth, Apt. 130, infant son of Gwendolyn Bowles and Tommie Pryor, both of Memphis, died of heart failure Wednesday at Methodist Hospital. N. J. Ford & Sons Funeral Home has charge. He also leaves his grandparents, Otis Walton, JoAnn Bowles and Dorothy Pryor, and his great-grandfather, Edward Bowles, all of Memphis.

JAMES DALE BRIDGES, 20-month-old son of Stephen Bridges and Rebecca Bridges of Memphis, died Wednesday at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center after being hit by a car. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at M. J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home Whitehaven Chapel with burial in Hollywood cemetery. He also leaves a sister, Brittney Collins, and a brother, DeAndre Stephen Bridges, both of Memphis; his grandparents, Wilma Bridges, Ruthie Bridges and Bennie Herron, all of Chicago, and his great-grandparents, Reola Coleman of Chicago and Benjamin Herron of Lonoke, Ark.

HUBERT L. BUGGS, 54, of 1805 Crawford, died of pneumonia Wednesday at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis. M. J. Edwards & Sons Funeral Home has charge. He leaves his mother, Willie Mae Buggs of Somerville, Tenn., and three sisters, Effie Richards of Somerville, and Sharon Johnson and Lela M. Batts, both of Memphis.

LEWIS BURCHETT, 75, of Brighton, Tenn., retired employee of Millington Telephone, died Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton in Covington, Tenn., after a stroke. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Brighton, where he was a musician, with burial in Mt. Tipton cemetery there. Barlow Funeral Home of Covington has charge. He was a chef at Tipps Hunting Club. He leaves a brother, Robert P. Payne of Grand Rapids, Mich., and a friend who cared for him, W. S. `Babe' Howard of Millington.
