LAWRENCEBURG - Wheeler Phillips, 83, of Pensacola, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at his residence.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Pettus-Turnbo Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Paul Violet officiating and interment
in Kidd Cemetery.
He was a native of Lauderdale County, Ala., son of the late Pink and Lucy Thompson Phillips and husband of Vola Mattox Phillips. He was a farmer and member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Pensacola, Fla.
Survivors include his wife, Vola Mattox Phillips of Pensacola, Fla.; a daughter, Angelia Byers of Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Elmer R. Johnson
Mr. Elmer Rhea Johnson, 65, retired chemical engineer with Rhone-Polenc Corporation in Mt. Pleasant and a resident of Stonewall Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Graymere Church of Christ with Wendell Robinson and John Vaughan officiating.
Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com.
He was a native of Floyd, Ky., and a graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Graymere Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Janice Vanover Johnson of Columbia; two sons, Gary Johnson of Culleoka and Jeff (Gail) Johnson of Murfreesboro; a grandson, Josua Johnson of Murfreesboro; his parents, Malgia Hopkins Johnson and Curtis B. Johnson of Johnson City; a sister, Charlotte (Max) Carter of Oakton, Va.; and a brother, Ken (Adine) Johnson of Miami, Fla.
Active pallbearers are Carl Boshers Jr., Steve McEwen, Tommy McEwen, Billy Brooks, Jim Baker and Jimmy Fann. Employees of Rhone-Polenc Corporation are honorary pallbearers.
Jonathan Scott Campbell
PULASKI - Jonathan Scott Campbell, 20, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bennett-May Funeral Home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.
He was the son of Mikie Lane Campbell and Janice Marie Kirkpatrick. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Elmer Rose.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include sisters, Michelle Campbell, Lisa Jones, Melissa Anderson and Tonya Bennett; brothers, Donald Kirkpatrick and Daniel Kirkpatrick; and grandparents, Betty Campbell and Lois Rose.
Robert Neil Moore Jr.
Robert Neil Moore Jr., 45, of Lewisburg, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004.
The Flint, Mich., native was the son of the late Robert Neil Moore Sr. and Bertha Inez Mathis Moore. He was employed as a drywaller in the construction business.
He is survived by a son, Robert Neil Moore III of Arkansas; daughter, Tara Lee Moore of Flint, Mich.; sister, Dorothy Orr of Petersburg; and two grandsons.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of London Funeral Home. Following the service, his body will be cremated.
The family will be at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Monday for visitation.
London Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Claudia Ann Gentry McQuiddy
LEWISBURG - Claudia Ann Gentry McQuiddy, 47, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, in Murfreesboro.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Gentry of Lewisburg; and two sisters, Barbara Jean Gentry and Margaret Marie McClain, both of Lewisburg.
Her body will lie-in-state from 3-7 p.m. Monday at Mayberry Chapel in Lewisburg. Visitation with the family will be from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday and the funeral will begin at 2 p.m. at Greater First Baptist Church in Lewisburg.
Burial will be at the Gentry Cemetery in Lewisburg.
She is survived by her mother, Bertha Mae Gentry of Lewisburg; son, Tony Gentry of Lewisburg; daughters, Jenelle Moton and Monique McQuiddy, both of Murfreesboro; sisters, Annie Pearl Porter and Roberta Gentry, both of Lewisburg, and Mary Lee Gentry of Detriot, Mich.; brothers, Charlie Gentry of St. Louis, Mo., Joe Gentry, Jerry Lewis Gentry and David Gentry, all of Lewisburg; an uncle and five grandchildren.

James W. Gentry
James W. "Milkball" Gentry, 56, of Columbia, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Connection Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Maurice Johnson officiating. Burial will be held at Middle Tennessee Veterans in Pegram. The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Roundtree, Napier & Ogilvies Franklin Funeral Home.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Connection Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
He was the son of Willie Lee Gentry and Jennie V. Petway Gentry of Franklin. He is survived by a wife, Sharon Gentry of Columbia; son, JAmes Willie Nelson; daughters, Christy Gentry of Columbia, Deborah Poynter and Krishana Nelson, both of Franklin; sisters, Barbara (James E.) Hughes, Glenda Gentry and Connie PEtway; and three grandchildren.

Linda Jean Bumstead
Services for Mrs. Bumstead will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Father Sam Gant officiating. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born in Redwing, Minn., she was the daughter of Barbara Stirewalte and the late Dennis Stirewalte. She was employed at the Saturn Company and showed horses as a hobby.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons, Bryan Bumstead of Columbia and Brent King of Lynnville; two sisters, Roxane Humphrey of Minnesota and Teressa Hodge of Kansas City, Kansas; a brother, Denny Stirewalte of Minnesota.
Willie Griggs
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carr and Erwin Funeral Home with burial in Giles Memory Garden. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He was the son of the late Ernest and Geraldine Edwards Griggs. He was retired as a trucker and from the furniture business. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ivalene Tucker Griggs; a son, Billy Joe Griggs Sr.; and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son, Randall M. Griggs of Minor Hill; daughters, Elise Faye of Pulaski and Peggy Sue Pickett of Minor Hill; a stepdaughter, Evelyn Story of Athens, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Born in Lauderdale County, Ala., he was the son of the late Burnie and Mary Ima White Thigpen and husband of Vera Tripp Thigpen. He retired from General Services Administration of the Federal Government. A member of the Highland Park Baptist Church, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pat Thigpen (Don) Elsea of Chattanooga; a son, Jimmy "Jim" (Deborah) Thigpen of Paris; a granddaughter, Meggen Thigpen of Paris; a grandson, Preston Elsea of Chattanooga; two sisters, Lois Holloway of Bonnertown and Geneva Golden of Five Points; and a brother, Veston Thigpen of Bonnertown.
Pallbearers will be Bill Dixon, Austin Perry, Corey Hood, Loyd Hood, Mark Thigpen and Tony Hardison.

The Maury County native was the daughter of the late Henry Milton Andrews and Lena Cheek Andrews. She was married to James H. Dowdy who preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1994. She was a 1931 graduate of Culleoka High School and later graduated from Martin College. Mrs. Dowdy was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church where she was President of the Women's Missionary Society and served as church treasurer.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Charlie Ann (Henry) Dugger of Columbia; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Juanita Brien of Killen, Texas, and Mrs. Sue Anna (Ronald) Eli of Hendersonville; one brother and sister-in-law, Joe E. and Thelma Andrews of Culleoka; sister-in-law, Louise Andrew of Columbia; three grandchildren, Tim Dugger, Chris (Karen) Dugger and Denise (Chris) Tullis; five stepgrandchildren, Johnny (Becky) Brien, Cathy (Dennis) Sikorski, Cindy (Mike) Rheinhardt, Rhonda (Ron) Malugin and Craig Eli; three great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Andrews.

The Giles County native was the son of the late Finis Ewing Johnson and Fannie Bell Davis Johnson. He retired from Monsanto after 42 years, was a 50-year Mason member of Columbia Lodge #31, and an avid bowler. He was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patty Sweeney Johnson of Columbia; four daughters, Patsy (Rick) Coleman, Brenda (Eddie) Harris, Debbie (Terry) Sanders and Lisa (Bobby) Tubville, all of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Kim Coleman (Duke) Morgan, Sherill Rummage, Steve Black, Angie Tubville, Danny (Tammy) Coleman, Suzanne (Chuck) Willis, Lori Harris (Jeff) Mitchell, Gary (Windy) Sanders and Brett Harris; and seven great-grandchildren.

Rebecca Mai Skinner Fitzgerald

The Williamson County native was the daughter of the late Carl and Sally Hinson Skinner. She was the widow of Calvin Felix Fitzgerald who died in 1981, She was a homemaker and a member of Brown's Chapel Church of Christ for 60 years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Skinner and Oliver Skinner.
She is survived by five daughters, Jean Ethridge of Vicksburg, Ms. Reba Parker of Jemison, Ala., Ann (Ernest) Stanfill of Columbia, Estelle (Allen) Wyatt of Slidell, La., and Elaine McGee of Columbia; two sons, Calvin (Glenda) Fitzgerald and Roger (Becky) Fitzgerald, both of Columbia; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister, Carlene Smithson of Franklin; and a brother, Doris Skinner of Franklin.
