Preceded in death by wife, Lela Miller Canaday.

Wells, Roger Dale, age 63, of Nashville, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away August 19, 2004 after a long illness. Mr. Wells loved life and never met a stranger. He was an avid golfer and a former member of Oak Ridge Country Club. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.

Dyer, Mary Dorene Stowers age 92 went to be with the Lord, family and friends on Saturday evening March 6, 2004. Preceded in death by husband; Fred Lansing Dyer, parents: Wendell and Dora Stowers, three sisters and two brothers. She will be missed by daughter and son-in-law: Martha and Kent Anderson of the home; Grandchildren: Christine, Ellison and husband Todd of Strawberry Plains, Mark McMillan and wife Laura of Chattanooga. Step-grandchildren: Russ Anderson and wife Melissa of Knoxville, Marty Lowe and husband Scott of Knoxville. Great-grandchildren: Brandon, Michael Todd, Heather, Timothy, Chaney, Samantha, Matt and Rebekah; and special friend Juanita.

She was a member of Straw Plains United Methodist Church and former member of Burlington Methodist Church. She loved the Lord with all of her heart and gave of the fruit of that love in the many afghans she made for all those she met along the way. The family would like to extend our gratitude to First Tennessee Bank for all the love they showed her and at the grocery store in which she traded. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to the Drs. and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and to Advent Hospice for their efforts in making her more comfortable.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Cledith Lee; brothers: William, James, B.H., Ted, Fred and Hubert Green.

Loving husband of 65 years, James P. Maples; daughters and sons-in-law: Kaye and Carlton Cooper, Joy and Jon Moore, Dianne and Gary Forry; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Susan Maples; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and extended family. Smith, Virginia “Adina”, age 76, of Strawberry Plains, formerly of Knoxville, went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday August 21, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a member of Dutch Valley Church of God and attended various churches in the area. Mrs. Smith, along with her husband, the late Rev. H. Lloyd Smith, was active in various pastoral services. She enjoyed writing poetry, gardening and various crafts. Mrs. Smith was a retired teacher from Knoxville City and Knox County School Systems having taught at Park Junior High, Vine Middle School, and Beardsley Middle School. Preceding her in death is her husband, the Rev. H. Lloyd Smith.

Gossett, David, age 84, of Maryville, went to be with the Lord Saturday August 21, 2004. He attended Laurel Banks Baptist Church in Maryville. He was retired at the age of 50 from the Federal Government after 30 years of service.

He was a veteran of the United States Army of World War II European Theatre and he also received the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals.
