Sherrill T. Young
God called, Dad answered....
Sherrill T. Young, 73, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 17, 2006.
Born in Warriormine, West Virginia, Sherrill had lived in Kingsport for most of his life. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Young; his parents, Joseph and Margaret Harman Young; six brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his four sons, Richard Young of Texas, Robert Young and wife Joyce of Kingsport, Randy Young and wife Rebecca of Kingsport, and Raymond Thompson of Pennsylvania; Twelve Grandchildren; Eight Great-Grandchildren; a brother, Allen Young of Maryland and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 - 7 pm on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Olen Cassell, officiating.
Military Graveside services will at 2 pm on Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Oak Hill cemetery, Kingsport, conducted by Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery by 1:55 pm.

Bonnie Gordon Livesay
Kingsport - Bonnie Gordon Livesay, 92, of Kingsport, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at Wexford House following a brief illness.
Born in Emboden, VA, Bonnie had been a resident of Kingsport for most of her life. She was a member of Spruce Pine Baptist Church in Mooresburg, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cline Livesay; her parents, Thomas and Lela Woods Gordon; three sisters, Wanda Gordon, Pearl Davis, and Laura Pearson; seven brothers, Sam, Hubert, Buster, Luther, Charlie, David and Damon Gordon.
She is survived by her sister, Alma "Tootsie" Collins and husband Randall of Knoxville; best friend and sister-in-law, Ota Mae Livesay, Church Hill; special friends, Opal Salyers, Elmer and Charlene Shipley, Carolyn and Jim Duncan and their sons, Randy & Andy and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 - 7pm on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ronnie Gordon, officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery by 10:55 am.

Joe Seckler
KINGSPORT - Joe Dailey Seckler, 74, of Landenberg, PA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2006, at his residence in Pennsylvania.
He was born in North Wilkesboro, NC and had lived in Kingsport until he was 24 years of age. He then moved to Delaware and later moved to Pennsylvania.
He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict (1952-1954). Joe was retired from the Iron Workers Union Local #451, Wilmington, Del. and was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Albert and Lucy Nunn Seckler; a sister, Lucille Bumgardner and two brothers, William and Jack Seckler.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Eva Hudson Seckler of the home; two sisters, Marie McGrady of Kingsport and Virginia Mitchell and husband Howard of Blountville along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 12 to 1 pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 1 pm in the funeral home chapel, Eulogy by Dean Gouge.
Military Graveside services will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park, Kingsport conducted by the VFW Post # 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Nannie Lucille Jayne
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord"
Kingsport -Nannie Lucille Jayne, 88, of Kingsport, passed away 4:45 am Friday, October 27, 2006, at Church Hill Health Care & Rehab. Center.
She was a member of State Line Baptist Church and was a very loving, caring Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clell V. Jayne in 1979; her parents, Wesley Blane and Estelle Vermillion Skeens; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her four daughters, Ruby E. Jayne of the home, Helen Frazier and husband George, Wilda Edwards, Reba Frazier and husband Lynn; son,Ray Jayne all of Kingsport; eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Hettie Reed; two brothers, Cecil Skeens and Jimmy Skeens and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5-7 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7 pm in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Tony Gonzalez officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 30, 2006, at Morrisons Chapel cemetery, Kingsport. Honorary Pallbearers will be her Grandsons. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery at 10:55 am.

Emily Case
KINGSPORT - Emily Conklin Case, 89, of Kingsport, died Wednesday (November 22, 2006) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, she had lived in Kingsport since 1997.
She was graduated from Central Connecticut State University and taught business curriculum in Canton High School, Collinsville, CT. The wife of a career Air Force Officer, she travelled all over the world devoting her life to the love and care of her family and friends.
Mrs. Case was a member of Colonial Heights Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Ella Lambert and Maurice H. Conklin; brother, Al Conklin; husband, Brigadier General Marshall H. Case, USAF, Ret.; and daughter, Robin Bassett.
Surviving are her daughter; Valerie Ford and husband Dave of Kingsport; grandchildren, Chris Bassett and wife Pam of Richmond, VA, Sara Seaman and husband, Jeff of Mt. Juliet, TN, Eric Ford and wife, Lara of Covington, KY; great-grandchildren, Lane and Logan Bassett; two nieces and a nephew.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, November 26, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 15, 2006 at Arlington National cemetery, Washington, D. C. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Kingsport Young Life Legacy Foundation, P.O. Box 3374, Kingsport, TN.

Robert Monroe, Jr.
Robert Archie "Bob" Monroe, Jr.,69,of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2006, in San Antonio, TX.
He was born in Knoxville, TN, and had lived in Kingsport since 1967. He served in the U. S. Air Force for four years and was in the Reserves for six years. He had been an over-the-road truck driver for over thirty years. He was presently driving for Landstar/Ranger Trucking Co. of Kingsport.
Mr. Monroe was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorrene (Parker) Monroe and Robert Archie Monroe, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Mae Goins Monroe of the home; daughters, Vickie Lynn Jennings and husband Steve of San Francisco, CA, and Cynthia Ann Rollins, Kingsport; sons, Robert Archie Monroe, III, and wife Cindy of Greeneville, James Allen "Jim" Monroe and wife Audra of Elizabethton, and Charles A. "Andy" Monroe and wife Rebecca of Kingsport; grandchildren, Becky Rollins, Jennifer Rollins, and Hannah Monroe; sister, Nancy Sue Jenkins of AL; brothers, Thomas Parker Monroe and Steven Michael Monroe both of Knoxville, TN; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Gladys Mildred Smeltzer
Kingsport - Gladys Mildred Suggs Smeltzer, 92, of Kingsport and formerly of Newport, TN, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She was also a member of Fairview Chapter No. 80 O.E.S., the Past Matrons - Past Patrons Club, and past member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 3382. She was employed at the Kingsport Press for several years and later was a diet supervisor at Holston Valley Medical Center. After her retirement, she served as a volunteer in several senior programs in the Kingsport area.
She was preceded in death by, her husband, Paul H. Smeltzer of Kingsport; parents, W. D. Suggs and Cynthia Adeline Bush Suggs of Newport; brothers, Earl Suggs and Artis Suggs of Newport, and Hugh Suggs of Pensacola, Florida.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, W. Harvey and Becky Smeltzer of Knoxville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Smeltzer of Nashville, Jonathan Smeltzer of Knoxville, and Rebekah Smeltzer of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Michelle Jenkins.
The family will receive friends 12-1 pm on Saturday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport, prior to the service at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Jones and Rev. Mack Turner officiating.
Interment will follow at McPheeters Bend Community cemetery.

David Alderson
KINGSPORT, TN - David E. Alderson, 59, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 3, 2006, at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Dante, VA, but lived in Pound, VA, and Haysi, VA, before moving to Kingsport. He was a 1965 graduate of Haysi High School where he excelled in high school sports.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene C. and Josephine Ramsey Alderson; and sister-in-law, Elberta Alderson.
He is survived by his sister Nina G. Myers and her husband, Garry of Kingsport; three brothers; Eugene C. Alderson, Jr. and wife, Dora of Fairmont, WV; Roger W. Alderson and wife, Mary of Summerville, SC; and Larry N. Alderson and wife, Sue of Elizabethton, TN; special friends Monnie Baker and Ruth Hensley; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Wayne Murray, Sr., officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 6, 2006, at Oat Hill cemetery in Kingsport, TN. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 AM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Broad Street United Methodist Church building fund, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37660.
