Colonel Eff Weeks Birdsong, Jr.

Eff Weeks Birdsong, Jr., Colonel US Army Retired, 81, passed away Monday, February 2, 2004. He was born June 28, 1922, at Mexia, Texas and his formative years were spent in Lawton, Oklahoma.
His military service was unique, serving in all three of the Army’s combat arms. He was an Armored Force enlisted man prior to attending Officers Candidate School where he was commissioned in the Field Artillery. During World War II, he served in the 609 Field Artillery from activation to deactivation. He was recalled to active duty, and during the Korean War, was an Infantry Officer. Upon his return to the United States, he returned to Field Artillery.
His military decorations include the Legion of Merit with oakleaf cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with three oakleaf clusters, the Combat Infantryman Badge and Parachutist Badge.
He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and received his Masters Degree from Murray State University, Murray, Kentucky.
Upon retirement from military service, he received a gubernatorial appointment to the Tennessee Regional Library Commission and, as a volunteer, traveled that state establishing community libraries. Moving to San Antonio in 1991, he established and served as longtime chairman of the USAA Towers Library.
Colonel Birdsong is survived by his wife, Ona; son Michael Howard Birdsong of Dallas, daughter Cris Birdsong Franks, Ph.D., ABD of Houston; their partners and spouses, Robert Stewart and Stacy Franks, Jr.; granddaughter Madison Piper Franks and step-granddaughter Megann Arial Franks.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Endowment Fund or a favorite charity.

He was a Eucharistic Minister at San Fernando Cathedral.
He was a loving father and skilled craftsman.
He was preceded in death by mother, Trinidad S. Montez.
He is survived by sons, Eric, Mario and Benjamin Montez and their mother, Sylvia; granddaughters, Zenea and Zelda Montez; father, Joe P. Montez; sisters, Mary Ames and her husband, Bill, JoAnn Montez; brothers, Raul J. Montez, Robert Montez and wife, Becky.

Eugenia M. Conner, age 82, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, of San Antonio, died on Wednesday, February 04, 2004.
She was a lifelong resident of San Antonio, and a graduate of St. Gerard’s High School. She was a member of St. Pius X for 37 years. She was married to Thomas E. Conner, Jr. for 47 years until he preceded her in death in 1995.
She is survived by her son, Thomas E. Conner, III and wife Susana of Bulverde; daughter, Jayne Yancey and husband Steve of Fair Oaks Ranch, son, James M. Conner and wife Barbara of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Ryan, Allison, Tyler, Ana Nicole, and Emily Marie; brother, Thomas Pruski; sister, Mary Ann Koerber; sister-in-law, C.A. Conner; numerous nieces and nephews.

David Julius Christenson
Born in Concordia, Kansas on Nov. 21, 1944
Died Jan. 21, 2004 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

David Julius Christenson, 59, beloved son, brother, husband, and father, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, TX, from complications following open-heart surgery January 12. 2004.
Born in Concordia, KS, on November 21, 1944, to Lester “Johnny” and Ella Mae Henderson Christenson, David grew up in nearby Jamestown; at Kansas University he earned his B.S. (1966), M.B.A. (1968), and J.D. (1973).
He served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army March 1969-March 1970 (Honorable Discharge 1970), and later was commissioned as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, for whom he worked as a trial lawyer in the Judge Advocate General Corps 1978-1982. Released from active duty in 1982, he worked in private industry until 1984; he then joined the Air Force Services Agency, where he served as a trial lawyer specializing in workers’ compensation cases. Dave was an avid collector of old baseball cards, a passionate supporter of KU basketball, a meticulous follower of stock market and mutual fund information, a discriminating connoisseur of reality television shows, and the most loving, wonderful Davy-Wavy and Daddy Bear we could ask for.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester “Johnny” Christenson, of Jamestown, KS, and is survived by Melanie, his wife of 28 years, their daughter, Kelli, and cats Smokey and Shadow, all of San Antonio, TX; mother Ella Christenson, of Jamestown, KS; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanne Christenson Major and husband Steve Major, of Denver, CO; and by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends throughout the country. He was buried with military honors in Jamestown on January 29, 2004. We love you, Dave, and we have enjoyed the journey!

Juan Q. Arredondo, age 79 of San Antonio, died Monday, February 2, 2004.
Mr. Arredondo was in the Army Air Force. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He worked for JAXS and Halo Distributing for 40 years.
Survivors: wife, Josephine Arredondo; sons, Richard Arredondo and wife, Jean, Edward Arredondo and wife, Irene, and Johnny Arredondo; granddaughter, Ann Margaret; niece, Sylvia and her husband, Joe Soriano.

John K. Harrell

John Kenneth Harrell, son of the late H.M. and Pearl C. Harrell, was born August 8, 1925 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, L.A. John, our precious husband, father and grandfather, was lifted in the loving arms of God on Thursday, February 5, 2004.
John was a Petroleum Engineer and member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Legion of Honor, having attained 50 years of continuous and active membership in the SPE.
He was former President of Harrell Drilling Company and Harrell Properties in Houston. John owned and operated Sabinal Canyon Ranch in Western Bandera County where he raised registered Brangus Cattle. A highlight of his life was ranching and exhibiting cattle at many stock shows in Texas and elsewhere. During his ranching career he had many grand champion winners in the Brangus cattle category. At the time of his death he owned Petroleum and Ranch Properties in partnership with his wife Barbara.
John was a member of San Antonio Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, George Washington Chapter S.A.R. in New Orleans, LA, Sons of the Confederate Veterans, the Huguenot Society and San Antonio Genealogical and Historical Society.
He was a noted historian and genealogist and former contributing researcher for the New Orleans Genealogist Quarterly. John was also a Life Promoter of the Children of the American Revolution. He was a former member of the Houston Petroleum Club and San Antonio Petroleum Club. At the time of his death he was a member of The Club Sonterra.
John is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Barbara; his children Jacquelyn, Jacques and daughter-in-law Kelley, Jill and son-in-law Don, and Jeff and grandchildren Danny and Coley, and a host of dear friends. The Harrell family wishes to thank Dr. Robert N. Schnitzler, Dr. Lon S. Smith, Dr. Charles P. Andrews and dedicated staff at Methodist Hospital SICU, MICU, Oncology Unit and ER for their loving care of John. Pallbearers will be Colonel Joseph M. Ware, Colonet Albert C. Metts, Jr., James C. Devlin, R. Phillip White, James M. Raymond and Gene Laue. Honorary Pallbearers will be The San Antonio Chapter Sons of the American Revolution.

Stuart M. Envick

Stuart M. Envick, 35, formerly of Canyon, died Wednesday, February 4, 2004 in his home in San Antonio, Texas after a yearlong battle with melanoma.
He was born September 6, 1968 in Canyon, Texas to Donald and Doris Envick.
On June 9, 1990, he married Brenda R. Boilesen of Albion, Nebraska. He grew up in Canyon, Texas and graduated from Canyon High School in 1987. He graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1991.
Survivors include his wife Brenda; his daughter, Keely; son, Colton; father and mother; brother, Christopher of Holdrege, Nebraska; sister, Brooke of San Antonio.
He was employed in various job roles in industrial sales, but most recently he was President of CB North America.
His grandparents preceded him in death.
Memorials are suggested to the Keely and Colton Education Fund at any San Antonio Broadway Bank or to the American Cancer Society, San Antonio Metro 91, P.O. Box 291048, San Antonio, TX 78229.

Richard Wayne Harllee

Richard W. Harllee of Bulverde passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2004, in San Antonio at age 67. He was born in Hondo, Texas in 1936 to Wayne and Janet Harllee. He entered into the Air Force after high school and was eventually stationed in England where he met, and married , his wife of 47 years. He worked for Motorola for 27 years until his retirement in 1992, and was a recipient of Motorola's highest honor - the Galvin Masters award. Mr. Harllee is survived by his wife, Joyce, his daughter, Kimberly, and his loyal dog, Ginger. He also leaves behind many relatives and long-time friends who have enriched his life over the years. He was a loving husband, a generous and proud father, and as one friend recently described him, a true Southern gentleman.

Arthur G. Jimenez, of San Antonio, Texas died Friday, January 30, 2004.
Arthur served his country proudly in the Air Force as an enlisted man, and in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer. He was actively involved in the evacuation of Saigon.
Arthur was a Golden Gloves City Champion for 2 years.
His love of his country was only exceeded by his love for his family. He was totally devoted to his family, friends, church, and community. He lived life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo and Emma Jimenez.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Sylvia Jimenez; daughter, Jennifer De La Rosa; sons, 1st LT. Arthur Eugene Jimenez, US Army and M/N Mark Andrew Jimenez, USMMA; daughter, Robyn Gabriella Jimenez; grandson, Jonathan De La Rosa; sister, Mary Louise Carreon; brother, Roger R. Jimenez; sister, Gloria J. Caldbeck; brother, Edward G. Jimenez; sisters, Linda G. Ramirez and Lt. Col. Yolanda Jimenez, US Air Force; brother, Dr. Richard G. Jimenez; parents-in-law Victor Roy and Micaela Abundis; sister-in-law, Rose Mary Vallin; and brother-in-law, Roy Victor Abundis.
