Minnie Kathryn Elizabeth Bowman, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the age of 95.She was born December 22, 1909 in San Antonio to E. Frank and Rose Turner. Kay was a graduate of Alamo Heights High School (1926) where she was an outstanding tennis player and won many awards. Kay’s travels took her to the Far East, Europe, and many U.S. locations. She loved sports and excelled at golf and bowling. Kay loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. George H. Bowman; brother, G.P. (Pete) Turner; son, Frank T. (Bubba) Bowman. She is survived by her daughter, Edith Rose Bender of El Paso, Texas; and her son, Glenn Haydn Bowman of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and 2 great- great- great grandchildren. We will miss her.

A Family Man Who Left a Lasting Impression on the World.
Sanders (Sandy) F. Hawkins, 70, a family man with the strength to love and the power to bring out the best in those around him, died May 4, 2005 at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was a devoted husband father, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, and when he passed he was surrounded by loved ones.
Hawkins was born on March 28, 1935 in Charleston S.C., the youngest of seven children born to Ella Hawkins and Charlie Hawkins. In 1957, he graduated from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg S.C., where he majored in chemistry. He received his M.S. in 1970 from St. Mary’s University and his Ph.D. in 1979 from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Pharmacology/toxicology. He entered the U.S. Army on August 9, 1957 as a 1st Lieutenant and retired on July 31, 1986, having achieved the rank of Colonel.
In 1979, he was appointed as the first U.S. Scientific Representative to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for Chemical Defense. He held a wide range of positions including Consultant to the Surgeon General for Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing, and Chief of Toxicology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. After retiring from the military, he move to Connecticut where he served as Chief, Toxicology/Criminology for the state and, later, as Director of Laboratory Services.
He was committed to community service and was a member and president of numerous Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, as well as the Worshipful Master of Excelsior for Mason Lodge #3 of Harford, CT. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Rose; his three daughters, Troy Hawkins of Springfield, VA, Andrea Hawkins of Cranford, N.J. and René Hawkins of Fairfax, VA; three sister, Jessica Hawkins-Greenidge, Adelaide Wallace, Ella Harmond; three brothers-in-law; Joseph Morgan, Maurice Morgan, Andy Boisseau, three sisters-in-law: Jacqueline Morgan, Ruby Boisseau, Edith Morgan and a host of nieces, nephews grand nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Greg Don Sullivan

“Let him walk in newness of life.” Psalm 6. Gregory Don Sullivan celebrated his 40th birthday with family and friends only days before he celebrated the fullness of life in the Lord. Greg would have found this reason to rejoice. Greg was born in Canoga Park, CA on May 1, 1965.
He graduated from Claude High School and Texas Tech University. Greg was employed with Southwest Airlines for 14 years. Most recently, Greg began a new career with Venterra Realty, where he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Greg was a person of faith, with a positive outlook and joy of life, while being very genuine and charismatic. He never met a stranger and touched the life of everyone he met. Greg was most proud when he was with his family. He was a wonderful son, husband and father and a great friend to all. He is survived by his wife, Vanessa C. Sullivan; children, Taylor Marie, Alexandra Lauren, Nicolette Breanne and Jacob Michael; parents, W.T. and Elizabeth, Claude, TX; siblings, Deborah and Brad Johnson, and Scott and Robin Sullivan; numerous nieces and nephews.

Corrie Doe

Corrie Grace Doe beloved daughter of Erin and Paulene Doe was welcomed into Jesus’ presence Friday, May 6, 2005. Born December 28, 2004, in San Antonio, TX. She lived 4 months, longer than expected. She was greatly loved by all who knew her. In this life she was held, comforted and loved by many friends and family members.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Kenneth Schneider. Corrie is survived by her parents Erin and Paulene; grandparents, Frederick and Barbara Doe and Ione Schneider; brothers, Frederick, Erin (Alaric), Peter, Benjamin, and sister, Charlotte.

Dorothy Henry of San Antonio, TX, born in Bishop, TX, on May 27, 1922, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005.
She was a long time member of Northside Church of Christ and the Harlandale Retired Teachers Association. Other activities she enjoyed included TOPS and her monthly bunco club of more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carroll M. Henry and first husband David Kerr, killed in WWII, brothers, William Louie Hudspeth and Edward Glenn Hudspeth; granddaughter, Stacy Carruth.
Dorothy is survived by daughters, Sue Winters and husband Kenneth of Austin, TX, Rita Kay Runyan and husband David of Spring, TX and Carol Jane Banton and husband David of San Antonio, TX; sister, Shirley Beal Roesler of San Antonio, TX; sisters-in-law, Frances Violet Strait and Anne Kerr Runyan; granddaughters, Kellie Winters of Austin, TX and Sarah Banton of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Ryan Winters, Kyle Winters of Austin, TX, Todd Runyan, William Runyan, Houston Runyan all of Spring, Texas, John Banton and Daniel Banton both of San Antonio, TX, great grandchildren, Heaven Haley, Tyler Runyan and Allison Runyan.

Alvin H. Hein
Born in Cambria, WI on May 4, 1911
Died May 7, 2005 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Alvin H. Hein the second child of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Gust Hein of Cambria, Wisconsin, died at the age of 94.
He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse in 1934. He taught High School classes (Science) in Milbank, South Dakota; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and here in San Antonio.
He married Dorothy Marie Bell, a first grade teacher from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on June 12, 1937. She was the daughter of Reverend Virgil and Flora Bell of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This lovely marriage lasted over 57 years.
Al entered into the military service in 1943, having assignments in Philippines, Japan, Italy and bases in the throughout the United States. In 1963, he retired with the rank of Major and immediately returned to his first love: teaching.
In 1973, he again retired completing over twenty years of teaching, with his last assignment with the San Antonio School District. Al was a life member of the American Legion, Post 10 and assumed various duties with the Post.
Al is survived by his sister, Martha Vincent, Madison, Wisconsin; brothers: Eugene and his wife Veryl of Valders, Wisconsin: Herman and his wife Shirley of Cambria, Wisconsin; and sister-in-law, Gladys Hein. Alvin will be sorely missed by his dedicated and loving friends, Tammy Ezell, Joyce Mayfield, Sylvia Orth, Beth Overly and Mryna Kearney. A special thanks to the entire staff of Arden Courts and Vitas Hospice Care for their gentle care of Alvin in his final days.

Virginia (Ginny) Dugan Cloud, age 83 of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Monday, May 2, 2005. She was born September 30, 1921 in Toledo, Ohio to Frank E. Dugan and Florence M. Sheehan Dugan.
Ginny volunteered her time for 20 years at Santa Rosa Hospital. She adored cooking, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, Frank E. and Florence M. Dugan; sisters, Ruthie DeCoursey and Dottie Reardon; brothers, Bob Dugan and Frank Dugan, Jr. of Kansas City.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Bruce B. Cloud, Sr.; son, Bruce B. Cloud, Jr. and wife, Vicky; daughters, Sheila M. Kiselis, Karen S. Cloud, Deborah A. McKenzie, Ginna Treadwell and husband, Fred; grandchildren, Tim Kiselis, M’lyssa Cloud, Becky and Guy Padilla, Jacob Cloud, Tammy Mixon and Katelyn Treadwell; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Hannah Padilla, Destany Mixon-Hernandez, Tatum Kiselis and Cory Davila; sister, Mrs. Jane Mayer and sister-in-law, Liz Dugan of Kansas City; sisters-in-law and spouses, Marguerite and Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Armin F. Puck, Peggy and Rod East; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Verna Taylor for her love and care to Ginny.
Pallbearers are Zachary Padilla, M’lyssa Cloud, Katelyn Treadwell, Tim Kiselis, Guy Padilla and Jacob Cloud.

Carolyn Virginia Nelson

Carolyn V. Nelson, age 83, of San Antonio, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005.
She was a Charter Member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, where she was on the board of The Green Door Thrift Shop.
Mrs. Nelson was also a member of the D.A.R.
Carolyn was a very devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Her church and family were the light of her life.
Mrs. Nelson appreciated the care she received from the staff at Brighton Gardens and her Physician, Dr. C. Scott Horn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Nelson.
Survivors: daughter, Patricia Nelson Buchanan, Dallas, TX; son, Robert Allen Nelson, Jr. and wife, Cecile R. Nelson; 5 grandchildren, Robert Allen Nelson, III and wife, Julie Smith Nelson, Daniel Russell Nelson and fiancée, Carla Vanessa Davalos, Captain William Walter Nelson and wife, Susanna Meadows Nelson, Jennifer Cecile Buchanan, and Brian Page Buchanan. 2 great grandchildren, Robert Allen Nelson, IV and Scarlett Kelly Nelson; Brother, Col. Stan Hutchins, USAF (Ret.); nephew, Michael Farner.

Jane Salazar passed away peacefully Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the age of 91 after a short illness.
Ms. Salazar was a loving sister and nurturing aunt to ten nieces and five nephews.
She is survived by her two sisters; Stella T. Salazar and Pauline Taylor and husband, Tom; and two brothers, George Salazar and wife, Jenny; and Walter Salazar and wife, Delores.
She is preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
