Alpha Lataine Bankhead

LaTaine was born on September 14, 1914 to Joe and Agnes Coalson Cotner . On January 1, 1933, LaTaine married Ryan Bankhead in Sweetwater, Texas.

Survivors include daughters; LaNell Dixon and husband Ron, and Anita Young and husband, John Young Brother B.T. and wife, Melba Evans; sister-In-Law Vernelle Evans; grandsons Jonathan Dixon, Jon and wife, Debbie Young, Bill and wife, Sandy Young, Robert and wife, Lori; Dixon; granddaughters ; Jennifer and husband, Scott Bowman, Melissa Calley and Lee Ann and Syd Ash. LaTaine is also survived by sixteen great- grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.

LaTaine was preceded in death by her husband, Ryan Bankhead and granddaughter, Shawn Kimbrow.

She was a longtime member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ before moving to Midland in 2000, where she attended Golf Course Road Church of Christ.

LaTaine possessed sensitivity to the needs of others. She was an ever-present comfort to those who experienced loss or tragedy, and brought her famous pound cake to each. Like Dorcus, LaTaine chose to serve in multiple ways. She and husband Ryan initiated Thirty-Niner’s as well as Children’s Hour at Johnson Street Church. Both were counselors at the annual summer Camp Victory for many years.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Johnson Street Church of Christ on Friday April 3, 2009 at 10:00AM with Tommy King officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. A family visitation will be held at Robert Massie Funeral Home on Thursday April 2, 2009 from 5-7:00 P.M.

Mary Ann Johns
June 14, 1922 - January 6, 2011

Mary Ann Johns, 88, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 in Bastrop, Texas. Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 10, 2011 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park, Garden of Gospels. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Mary Ann was born on June 14, 1922 in Mount Pleasant, Texas the daughter of Robert Gilpin and Ruby Payne Gilpin. She was the widow of James Johns owner of JG Johns Air Conditioning in Abilene for many years. She was a member of the First Central Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Joanna Johns Garrison of Smithville; 3 grandchildren, Dowel Garrison and wife Nicole, Dane Garrison and special friend, Stephanie Maxwell, and Bradley Garrison and wife Tammy; 2 great-grandchildren, Layton Garrison and Makenna Garrison.

Robert "Bob" Frederick BeeBe I am a Veteran.
February 28, 1939 - January 4, 2011

TSGT Robert “Bob” F. Beebe (U.S. Air Force retired), 71, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in Abilene. His graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 10th at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 West Lake Road in Abilene. Visitation is from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Bob was born on February 28, 1939 in Flint, Michigan. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at a young age where he served several tours in Vietnam. Bob retired from the Air Force in 1977 while stationed at Dyess Air Force Base and remained in the Abilene area where he has been active in the VFW, DAV and VVA. After retirement he enjoyed being a hands on Dad and owning a ranch where he raised Appaloosa Horses. Bob was an excellent cook.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Linda “Lin” Beebe of Abilene; two sons, Robert F. Beebe Jr. and Scott Beebe both of Abilene; 6 grandchildren including, Jayde Alexis Chance-Beebe; and one sister, Donna Berry of Michigan.

Memorial donations are suggested to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Diedrich "Dickie" Ray Waxler
November 7, 1932 - January 3, 2011

Diedrich “Dickey” Waxler, 78, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 3, 2011. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South officiated by Reverend Thomas Bruce. Interment will follow the service in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Dickey was born on November 7, 1932 in Seguin, TX and attended school at the Butterfield School south of Abilene. He married the love of his life, Barbara Raiford, on December 21, 1951 in Abilene. He began working as a painting contractor and later owned and operated Trico Painting for 14 years with his son before receiving his dealer’s license and spending several years working as an automobile dealer.

He was a member of the First Foursquare Church for many years and was always proud of the fact that his family was raised in church. He enjoyed spending time working in the church, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Dickey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara; three children, Stacy Rostvold and husband Steve of Abilene, Dennie Waxler and wife Teri of Temple, Tammy Snow of Abilene; six grandchildren, Steve Henderson, Hannah Rostvold, Cody Waxler, Courtney Waxler, Heather Snow, Holly Snow; five great grandchildren, Brittany, Lucas, Presley, Lexie, Brodie; two sisters, Charlene Ashby of View, Leona Davis of Tye; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Trinidad Pena Ybarra Sr.

Died: Mar 20, 2009
Trinidad Pena Ybarra Sr., 76, of San Angelo, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, March 20, 2009, at his daughter�s residence, in Carrollton, Texas.

He was born May 21, 1932, in New Braunfels, Texas, to Domingo Ybarra and Guadalupe Pena Ybarra. He married Lola Lopez on July 12, 1949, in Lamesa, Texas. Trinidad worked for Western Mattress Co. for over 50 years, and retired recently.

Trinidad was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle to all who were fortunate enough to have had him in their lives.

Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 22, in the Robert Massie Funeral Riverside Chapel.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, at Primera Iglesia, 23 W. Avenue J, with Pastor Robert Cuellar officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Ybarra, Christopher Ybarra, Jeremiah Ibarra, Tony Rojas, John Molina, Jesse Molina Jr., and Domingo Molina.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Ybarra of San Angelo; sons Trinidad Ybarra Jr., of Addison, Tony Ybarra and his wife, Rosalinda, of Keller, and Erick Ybarra, and his wife, Esther, of San Angelo; daughter Cindy Ibarra and her husband, Bob, of Carrollton; grandchildren Jacob Ybarra and wife Sylvia of Carrollton, Christopher Ybarra of Garland, Sophia Ybarra of Addison, Sandy Tave Rojas of San Angelo, Josephine Martinez of San Angelo, Adrienne Ybarra of San Antonio, Jeremiah Ibarra of Waco, Zachariah Ibarra and Josiah Ibarra, both of Carrollton, and Jennifer Ybarra of San Angelo; and great-grandchildren Brittany Ybarra, Jacob Ybarra Jr., Matthew Ybarra, Trinity Ybarra, Anastasia Ybarra, Veronica Ybarra, Tony Rojas and Aaron Rojas; brother Bill Ybarra of Garland; sister Bennie Molina of Abilene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles "Chuck" Carlton LaSalle
October 18, 1934 - December 30, 2010

Captain Charles Carlton “Chuck” LaSalle (U.S. Air Force retired), 76, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at his home in Abilene. His funeral service with Pastor Doug Dirks officiating will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, January 3, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1202 S. Pioneer Dr. with burial following at 1:00 PM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Charles was born on October 18, 1934 in Springfield, Missouri the son of Ralph Carlton LaSalle and Marie Irene Holmes LaSalle. He moved to Galveston when he was 10 years old where he graduated from Ball High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the Air Force, he earned his BS in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Wyoming and his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M; University. Some highlights of his military career included working with NASA on the Space Aeronautics Atlas Program, working on the design of the Flow Facility for laser beams and being a part of the F16 Aircraft project. After retirement from the Air Force, Charles worked 26 years as a Nuclear Engineer with the State of Texas. He was a member of the Texas Professional Association of Engineers.

Charles was a longtime faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. He also enjoyed being involved with Bible Study Fellowship. You could always strike up a conversation with Charles by bringing up his grandkids, the Bible, gardening or his beautiful roses.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary LaSalle; his children, Katherine Lee Kelly and husband Patrick of Kingwood, Jane Marie Stout and husband James of Mansfield, Ralph William LaSalle and wife Letha of Abilene and Jennifer Ann Gilmore and husband Michael of Santa Fe, New Mexico; 7 grandchildren, Kevin and Mark Stout, Devin and Owen Kelly, Chad LaSalle, Mena and Ciaran Gilmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma Sue Williams
May 26, 1937 - December 30, 2010

Norma “Sue” Williams, 73, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 in Abilene. Her funeral service with Pastor Oran Rake officiating will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 3rd in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with burial following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday at Elmwood Funeral Home.

Sue was born on May 26, 1937 in the Cedar Gap Community the daughter of L.D. Hickman and Byrdia Franklin Hickman. She has lived in the Abilene area most of her life with the exception of 13 years she spent in Tucumcari, New Mexico. She worked several years at Bill’s Burgers and later at Dean’s Restaurant and Tucumcari Inn. She had a strong faith and was an active member of Crossway Baptist Church.

Sue loved and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was blessed with a gift for growing things and always had a beautiful garden and yard.

Survivors include her children, Becky Davison and husband Phil of Abilene, Laura Dankworth and husband Greg of Amarillo and Randy Williams of Abilene; 8 grandchildren, Mark Davison and wife Kim, Brooke Hearon and husband Jason, Krissy Dankworth, Kyla Dodgin and husband Dustin, Orrin Dankworth, David Williams and wife Lauren and J.D. Doty and husband Mitchell; 9 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends including Penny Dick of Abilene and lifelong “heart” friend, Rita Holland of Doniphan, Missouri.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Ralph Heaven and the staff of Hendrick Hospice Care for all their tender loving care.
