Peter "Pete" Mercier I am a Veteran.
August 15, 1943 - December 14, 2015

Peter "Pete" Mercier, 72, passed away Monday, December 14, 2015 in Abilene. No services are scheduled at this time.

Pete was born August 15, 1943 in Burlington, Vermont to Joseph Arthur Mercier and Hazel Ann LeClair. He served in the United States Air Force over 20 years, earning the Air Force Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Long Tour and Longevity Service Award Ribbons. He served as an air transportation supervisor at Dyess Air Force Base at the time of his retirement on July 31, 1984. He married Imogene McLain on March 10, 1984 in Abilene, Texas. Pete worked for Lockheed for 12 years. He enjoyed doing handyman work and mowing for widows.

He is survived by his wife, Imogene; a son, Peter Jay Mercier of Kermit; two grandchildren, Sabrina Mercier and Christian Mercier of Kermit; a brother, John Mercier, and three sisters, Carol Coda, Nancy Duquete and Mary Byrd. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

Robert "Pat" Patrick Pyeatt
October 14, 1955 - December 10, 2015

Robert Patrick "Pat" Pyeatt, 60, of Abilene passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2015 in Abilene.

A funeral service will be held Monday, December 14, at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Pat was born on October 14, 1955 to the late Kenneth Lamar Pyeatt and Wilma Jean Spears in Odessa, TX. He graduated from Odessa High School in Odessa, Texas in 1973. Lived in Odessa till 1980. In 1980 moved to Midland to pursue career in the retail management field. In 1980 Pat became Assistant Store Manager of Gibson's till 1986. In 1986 he became the Assistant Store Manager of Albertson's until 1996 when he was transferred to Abilene as Store Director of Albertson's until 2007. In 2007 Pat went on to Store Director of HEB up until his passing in 2015.

Pat enjoyed spending his time with family, extended family, which he often became a father figure to many. He also enjoyed the occasional game of golf. Pat was a member of the Southern Hills Church of Christ

Pat is survived by his children, Serena and husband Brian Roberts of Midland, Justin Pyeatt of Abilene, Nathan Pyeatt of Abilene, Amber Pyeatt and husband Danny Chelius of Houston, Nicholas Benton and wife Kamie of Abilene, Shanna Rainey of Midland; grandchildren, Mackenzie Roberts, Mikaela Roberts, Austin Pyeatt, Naomi Chelius, Charlotte Chelius; sister, Sherry and husband Deanie Thomasson, Mike and wife Judy Pyeatt; ex-spouse, Kay Pyeatt; sister in-law Kary Anthony; former father and mother in-law, Richard and Wanda Anthony; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Raymond
February 21, 1940 - December 22, 2015

Gerald "Jerry" Wayne Raymond, 75, of Abilene passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Abilene.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jerry was born on February 21, 1940 in Shep, TX to the late Benjamin Franklin Raymond and Beryl Alene Ashby. He was retired from the grocery and restaurant business.

Jerry is survived by his son, Robert Raymond and wife Rita; grandchildren, Kristin Clark and husband Chris, Justin Raymond and wife Nicole, Brandon Raymond and wife Lindsey, Shane Raymond, Courtney Darraugh, Calan Darraugh; great grandchildren, Riley Raymond, Addison Raymond, Paisley Raymond; sister, Brenda Cowley; nephew, Christopher Crain.

He was also preceded in death by a son, David Raymond.

Adela Campos Morris
October 8, 1962 - December 21, 2015

Adela Campos Morris, 53, died Monday, December 21, 2015 in Abilene.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday, December 26, 2015 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South . Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Adela was born October 8, 1962 in Loraine, Texas, to Guadalupe and Ramona Albidrez Campos. She was an eight-year veteran of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, serving as a Correctional Officer since January of 2007. She was a strong, natural leader who cared deeply for others. Adela loved her grandchildren and was involved in all their activities. She enjoyed cooking and staying busy. She was a long time member of Elmdale Baptist Church.

Adela is survived by three children, daughter Kimberly Deal and Trevor of Clyde, son Allen Morris and Cortney of Abilene, and daughter Lauren Valencia and Cory of Sweetwater; five grandchildren, Austyn Deal, Christian Deal, Landon Deal, Jozlyn Morris and Mia Morris; two brothers, Lucas Campos and Tony Campos and Hilda. She is also survived by Tony Morris.

Adela was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Bransen Cole Deal.

Edgar "Ed" Forrest Shepherd Jr. I am a Veteran.
February 16, 1944 - December 22, 2015

Edgar F. Shepherd, Jr. passed away on December 22, 2015 after a long, tough fight with cancer and congestive heart failure.

Visitation and viewing will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 US HWY 277 S Abilene, TX 79606, Saturday December 26 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Graveside service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Ed was born on February 16, 1944 to the late Edgar, Sr. and June Shepherd in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was employed at Sears for 25 years in the Orange County, California area. During this time he took a break from Sears and joined the Marines but returned to his employment at Sears. Ed met his wife, Linda. They married in May of 1984. They moved to Abilene, Texas in 1986 from Whittier, CA to be close to his in-laws. Ed worked at Abilene High School from 1986-2006 as head custodian. He retired from AISD in 2006. Following his retirement from AISD he worked for Sodexho from 2006-2009 until his retirement.

Ed found pleasure in recreational RVing and being a Ham Radio Operator. He traveled the country with the love of his life, Linda. Ed was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan. Ed had a special friend, Nars, from Tyler, TX. They loved to chit chat during the early morning hours on the porch, watching the sun rise on the lake.

Ed leaves behind his wife, Linda; son, Shawn Shepherd; grandson, Matthew Shepherd; adopted daughter, Stefany Shepherd Hawk and family; two step daughters, Dodie VanVleet and family and Tina May and family, and his precious Pomeranian, Sandi.

Ed was also preceded in death by a step son, Scott Edwards.

The family wants to thank the doctors and staff at MD Anderson in Houston and the extra special care that Ed received at Hendricks Medical Center by the doctors and staff. An extra special thank you to Dr. Muckatira, Dr. Trauth, and Dr. Stojarovic.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the Hendrick Medical Center Foundation, Care of Hendrick Cancer Center 1900 Pine St. Abilene, Texas 79601.

Louis P. Ortiz I am a Veteran.
October 11, 1926 - December 18, 2015

Louis P Ortiz was called home on December 18, 2015. Visitation will be Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy. 277 South, Abilene, TX. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 21, 2015, in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, Abilene, TX.

Louis was born in Big Spring, TX on October 11, 1926. He married Jennie Jojola on November 8, 1948 in Abilene. He attended Primera Mexican Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1948. He was stationed in Japan and Germany where he picked up both languages. He worked for the City of Abilene and Gooch Packing Company.

Louis is survived by his children Sammy Ortiz and wife Adella; Susan Carrasco and husband Ricky; Ruben Ortiz; Jennie Louis Ortiz; and Ronnie Ortiz and wife Sarah. His grandchildren Elizabeth Butt and husband Jordon; Sammy Jr.; Quentin Contreras and wife Misti; Joanna Jones and husband Pete; Jamie Ortiz and wife Candice; Miranda Riddle and Husband Aaron; Heather Ortiz; Tamara and husband Dusty; Nicole Wulfe and husband Nick; Joshua Ortiz and wife Megan; Amanda Ortiz; Noelle Ball and husband Cory. Great-grandchildren Christine, Kaden, Ashley, Megan, Katie, Jack, Joshau, Andrew, Amberleigh, Rachel, Zackery, Dereck, Olivia, Carson, and Betty Mae. Brothers Moises Ortiz and Eliseo Ortiz; sisters Vicki Ortiz, Minnie Martinez, Josie Rendon, Cruz Jimenez, Corina Gonzales, Naomi Martinez; numerous nieces and nephews; and neighborhood kids that called him "Grandpa".

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie; parents, Joe and Cruz Ortiz; granddaughter, Ruth Marie; brothers, Israel, Joe, and Dan; and sister, Lupe Gonzales.

The family would like to thank Hendrick Hospice Care for their help in making their father comfortable at home. Thank you Crystal and the rest of the girls that helped.

Bobby "Bob" Dale Connel
April 17, 1931 - December 18, 2015

Bobby "Bob" Connel, 84, of Abilene passed away December 18, 2015 in Abilene.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Oldham Lane Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the church.

Bob was born on April 17, 1931 in Clyde, TX to the late Oscar Burton Connel and Linnie Franklin Barr Connel. Bob was a graduate of Clyde high school and studied at Abilene Christian College. Bob married Edith Marian Peters on November 15, 1963 in Temple, Texas. They shared a wonderful 52 years of marriage together as parents, grandparents and ministry partners.

He first began preaching at the age of 17 and at age 21 was preaching full time as a pulpit minister. Bob loved the Lord and doing the Lord's work. He served as minister to churches all across Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Bob was full time pulpit minister at the Baker Heights and Central churches of Christ in Abilene.

Bob's special gift was music. From the age of 14, he began leading worship, later leading singing workshops, writing gospel hymns and teaching in many singing schools. He taught music until he was 80 years old and the family has continued this legacy.

Bob was a charter member of the Oldham Lane church of Christ, where he served as deacon, Bible class teacher and song leader.

Bob is survived by his wife, Edie; son, John Barr Connel and wife Suzanne of Grayson, GA; Robert Lloyd Connel and wife Becki of Hodges, TX; daughter, Marian Rene' Connel and boyfriend Kelly Klaerner of Abilene, TX; son, Donald Bruce Connel of Abilene, TX; grandchildren, Matthew, David, Joseph, Adam, Lane and Hannah; and many children to whom Bob was a father figure. He was known variously as Dad, Pop, Daddy, Grandpa, Pypo, GranBob, Uncle Dad, Uncle GranDad, Uncle Bob, Brother Bob and Bobby.
