Paul D. Warren
May 7, 1933 - June 1, 2012

Paul D. Warren, 78, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 in Abilene. Visitation will be 7 till 9 PM, Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral will be 10 AM, Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Reverend Roy Keith.

Paul was born May 7, 1933 in Elys, Kentucky to Sampson and Mary Warren. He graduated from Knox Central High School in Barbourville, Kentucky and joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduation. He married Marilyn Jones in 1957 in Abilene where they began their family and were lifelong residents. He began working as a milkman before becoming an officer with the Abilene Police Department in 1961 where he served until his retirement in 1992 after 30 years and 5 months of service to the Abilene Community.

Paul was initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason in Abilene Masonic Lodge No. 559 on January 8, 1970 and raised a Master Mason October 31, 1970. He held many offices and served in many capacities throughout the years. Presently he held the office of Deputy Grand Master of The Grand Council of Texas and was to be installed as Grand Master of The Grand Council of Texas in October.

Paul is survived by two daughters, Valerie Dickens and husband Steve of San Angelo, Vickie Ray and husband Sam of North Richland Hills; one son, Virgil Warren of Merkel; five grandchildren, Michael and wife Dawn Dickens, Leanne Dickens, Phillip and wife Shelly Dickens, Melinda and husband Kyle Jones, Matthew Ray; five great grandchildren, Tyler, Mason, Kaden, Parker, Addison; one sister, Marie Hensley; two brothers, Dana Warren, Claude Warren; sister-in-law, Barbara Warren; brother-in-law, Larry Ball; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one brother; and two sisters.

Pallbearers for the service will be Glen McCandless, Jerry Pingle, Charlie Martin, Rick Trogden, Hubert Smith, Lewis Williams and two honoraries, Lonnie Boggs and Mac Crowder.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, 1033 Long Prairie Road, Suite 5, Flower Mound, TX 75022-4230 or the Masonic Home, 338 Grapevine Hwy, Hurst, TX 76054.

Ramona Banda
April 2, 1945 - May 27, 2012

Ramona Banda, 67, passed away Sunday, May 27th at Hendrick Medical Center after a sudden illness. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 31st at St. Francis Catholic Church, 826 Cottonwood with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation is on Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM with Rosary beginning at 6:00 PM and Prayer Service at 6:45 PM in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South.

Mona was born on April 2, 1945 in Dallas the daughter of Gus Flores Sr. and Mary Holguin Flores. She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1963 and moved to Abilene at the age of 18 where she worked for Timex, Sunbeam Cookie Factory, Hendrick Hospital and Kmart. She was a faithful member of the St. Francis Catholic Church.

Mona’s number one passion was her family, even though she never had children of her own, she gave constant love and guidance to her many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed gardening and watching the Texas Rangers. Besides her husband of 32 years, Joe Banda, her second love was A-Rod of the New York Yankees and she was a huge Elvis fan.

Survivors include her husband Joe of Abilene; her mother, Mary Flores of Abilene; one sister, Eulalia Holguin (Aurelio) of Dallas; 20 nieces and nephews, 30 great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Her father and her brother, Gus Flores Jr. preceded her in death.

Tina Leah May
March 30, 1968 - May 28, 2012

Tina Leah May, 44, passed away May, 28, 2012 in Abilene. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 1, 2012 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South.

Tina was born March 30, 1968 in Anson, TX to Charles and Joyce May. She attended Cooper High School and McMurry University. She earned her master’s degree in physical therapy from Hardin Simmons University. She worked for several facilities and home health care around Abilene. Her world was her children and spending time with them.

Tina is survived by two loving sons, Justin May and wife Jessica and Josh Zentner and wife Kayla; grandson, Harrison May; her parents; two sisters, Cindy Pacheco and Mary Guerra; several nieces and nephews, Jessica, Jennifer, Cody and Brittany Pacheco, Danny and Ashley Guerra; her partner in love, James Moss; and two step-daughters, Brittaney and Amanda Abernathy.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kristen May, and a grandson, Wyatt Zentner.

Sam Owens Matthews I am a Veteran.
July 29, 1930 - May 29, 2012

Sam Matthews, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in Abilene. Visitation will be 6 till 8 PM, Friday, June 1, 2012 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Funeral will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Elmwood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Gideons International, 3526 S Treadaway Boulevard, Abilene, TX 79602

Martin Joseph Fackelman I am a Veteran.
February 20, 1924 - May 27, 2012

Martin (Marty) Joseph Fackelman, 88, died Sunday, May 27th, 2012 in Abilene. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 31st in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South with entombment following in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Marty was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 20, 1924 to John Joseph and Theresa Fackelman. When Marty was 12 years old, he won the U.S. Marble Championship in Cleveland. He loved golfing and in 1941 caddied for Bryon Nelson at the Ridgewood Country Club in Cleveland. He graduated from Parma High School and Fenn College. In 1943 he entered the Army, 65th Signal Battalion during WWII in the European Theater. He received multiple meritorious campaign medals with 2 bronze stars. After the war, he married Hedy Anastopulos Smith. Marty and his father-in-law, Harvey Smith, opened the Brownwood Business School in Brownwood, Texas in 1947. He left Texas in 1955 to work for Standard Oil Company in Denver, Colorado. He later moved to Fort Worth and then finally Abilene where he opened Abilene Commercial College in 1961. Marty then worked for Halliburton from 1977 until his retirement in 1991. He was a Shriner, a 32 degree Mason and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Hedy of Abilene; two daughters, Gail Jackson Smith and husband David of DeKalb, Texas and Laura Fackelman of Breckenridge, Texas; three grandsons, Nicholas Jackson of Irving, Case Jackson of Weatherford and Gavin Jackson of Kerrville; and 7 great grandchildren.

His parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the donor’s favorite charity.

Amber Lee Turley
August 3, 1996 - April 20, 2012

Amber Lee Turley, 15, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012 in Ft. Worth. Her funeral service will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, April 26th in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 South. Visitation and viewing for family and friends will follow the service.

Amber was born on August 3, 1996 in Jasper, Texas. She attended grade school in Clyde, middle school at Madison in Abilene and was currently a freshman at Cooper High School. She enjoyed traveling and having fun.

From the day Amber was born she has brought endless joy and love to her family. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include, her mother, Donna Bennett and boyfriend, Matt Moore of Buffalo Gap; her brother, Cody Vaughn of Abilene; her “Opi” and “Omi”, Robert and Rita Bennett of Longs, South Carolina; grandmother, Lynn Miller of Tyler, Texas; her uncle, Robert Bennett Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, cousin, Robert Bennett III; her loving boyfriend, Matt Rubio of Abilene and many dear friends.

Even after Amber’s life has ended, many are receiving a second chance at life through her final gift of organ donation which brings great pride to her family.

Joe Tolentino I am a Veteran.
July 16, 1927 - April 12, 2012

Joe Tolentino, 84, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 in Abilene. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 16th at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview with interment following in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Sunday in the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 HWY 277 with Wake Service at 6:00 PM and Rosary at 7:00 PM.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Abilene. He served in the 82nd Airborne of the U.S. Army during WWII where he was stationed in the Panama Canal and at one time escorted President Dwight Eisenhower as a Military Police Officer. He was a recipient of the WWII Victory Medal. He was talented welder and owned and operated Tolentino and Sons Welding for many years as well as working with Trinity Industries, Bulldog Steel and Tigé Manufacturing.

Joe was a loving husband, father and Guelo to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His face lit up with a smile at the site of each and every one of them. He never met a stranger and was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. He was an avid Texas Rangers fan.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Mary Tolentino of Abilene; his children, Richard Tolentino and wife Wilma, Edward Tolentino and wife Maria and Rudy Tolentino and wife Melinda all of Abilene, Mary Ellen Tolentino of Austin and Robert Tolentino and wife JoAnne of Plano; Grandchildren, Brian Tolentino and wife Shelley, Ricci Tolentino, Tess Tolentino, Matthew Tolentino, Jennifer Tolentino and husband Gilbert Robledo, Joshua Tolentino, Michael Tolentino and wife Anna, Emilio Tolentino, Alyssa Tolentino, Amy Garcia and husband Luis Flores, Staci Garcia, Isabella Tolentino, Victoria Tolentino, Jeremy Alvarez and Timothy Tolentino; Great Grandchildren, Zaccarria, Sebastian, Brooklyn, Kyli, Bryn, Reid, Devin, Cynara, Gabriella, Lilliana and Leia Tolentino; two sisters, Margaret Torres and husband Juan and Tommie Sigala and husband Paul; one sister-in-law, Louisa Tolentino and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents and two brothers, Ruben and Fidel Tolentino preceded him in death.

Joe could often be seen around town with his companion of 6 years, his Basset Hound, Isbell. She traveled with him everywhere he went and always made sure she was in the front seat. He will be missed by his beloved wife, children and grandchildren, but especially by his dear Isbell.

Pallbearers for the service will be Brian, Matt, Michael, Emilio and Joshua Tolentino and Gilbert Robledo. Honorary pallbearer is Zach Tolentino.

Frances Ione Tate
April 19, 1924 - April 23, 2012

Frances Tate, 88, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 in Abilene. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 till 8 PM, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South. Graveside funeral service will be 10 AM, Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the Abilene City Cemetery.

Frances Ione Tate was born April 19, 1924 in Abilene, TX to W.H. and Gladys Shepherd. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1942. Shortly after high school she married James Milton Tate in Albany, TX. She worked at Peak’s Pharmacy Soda Fountain and enjoyed serving the Camp Barkley Soldiers when they came into town. She spent the last 11 years living in the assisted living facilities of Wisteria Place. She loved Animals and enjoyed traveling but her joy came from telling jokes. She always had a new joke for anyone who was willing to listen.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one sister, Martha Ann Titus.

She is survived by two sons, Bill Tate and wife Mary of Abilene, James Tate Jr. and wife Lynn of Clyde; four grandchildren, James Tate III and wife Deanne, Jarren Tate and wife Marla, Amy Cowart and husband Chuck, Jonathan Burrus; several great grandchildren; longtime caretaker, Johnnie Bradshaw; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggest memorial donations be made in Frances’ honor to West Texas Rehab, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605 or Rescue the Animals, 5933 South 1st St, Abilene, TX 79605
