Sgt. Christopher Scott Norris, 21

Died: Thursday, December 04, 2008, in Abilene, Texas

Sergeant Christopher Scott "Chris" Norris, U.S. Army, passed from our lives on Thursday, December 4, 2008 in Abilene, Texas. Chris was a brilliant young man with unlimited potential who put a smile on the face of everyone he met. He lived life like he wanted to enjoy every minute. Chris was born on January 28, 1987 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He moved to Abilene shortly thereafter to be close to his Nana and grew up in Abilene until he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Growing up, Chris was active in sports, especially baseball, where he once slammed four home runs in one game at Redbud Park. Prior to his graduation from Cooper High School in 2005, Chris began to focus on his future and decided to join the U.S. Army after graduation. He excelled as a soldier and unselfishly served our country in Iraq. After his return from his tour of duty, he was stationed at Fort Hood in Killeen and had just recently completed recruiter training school. He had been recently assigned as a hometown recruiter working out of the Abilene
office and was very excited about his new assignment. Chris leaves behind many family and friends who will forever miss him.

Chris is survived by his parents, Larry and Brenda Williams of Red Oak, Texas and his grandmother, Charldene Williams, of Abilene.

Services will be held at Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 11, 2008. Burial will follow in Midway Cemetery near Novice, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

John Lockett Shelton Jr., 79

Died: Thursday, September 8, 2011, in Abilene, Texas

John Lockett Shelton, Jr., of Abilene, Texas, passed away on September 8, 2011. A memorial service will held at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander Street, Abilene, at one o'clock p.m. on Saturday, September 10. Family and friends will gather in the church's Parish Hall following the service. Arrangements are being made by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

John was born in Dallas, Texas on June 23, 1932 to Lockett and Ermine Kirkpatrick Shelton. He grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High. He was a second generation graduate of Texas A&M; University, where he was a member of the Corps.

John was employed by Merrill Lynch in New York and Dallas for 22 years. He returned to Abilene in 1976 where he continued his work in the securities industry until his retirement. In Abilene, John was involved in many civic activities. He was a past board member of the Community Foundation of Abilene, past president of the Grace Museum and he was chairman of the centennial committee of the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council.

John was regarded by all who knew him as a gentleman, and he was also a gentle man.

He loved fine food and travel, and he enjoyed many trips throughout Europe and Mexico. John was a member of the Abilene A&M; Club, the Petroleum Club, the Abilene Club and the Abilene Country Club. He was also a member in good standing of the Exxon Travel Club.

Surviving John are his wife, Susan Batjer Shelton; daughter, Sarah Shelton White, and her husband David, of Longview, Texas; son, Peter Kirkpatrick Shelton, and his wife Julia, of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Laura White Uhlir, and her husband Ray, Henry White, Abigail Shelton and Ford Shelton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Jennabeth Jones Shelton, and his son John Lockett Shelton III.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rescue the Animals, 5933 S. 1st Street, Abilene, Texas 79605 or the Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander Street, Abilene, Texas 79602.

Timothy Van "Tim" Thompson, 56

Died: Thursday, August 25, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas

Tim Thompson, 56, died Thursday, August 25, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas. Rev. David Cason will officiate. There is no scheduled visitation or burial service.

Born in Ennis, Texas on August 4, 1955, Tim was the son of Alice Carolyn (Griffith) Thompson and Elwood Thompson. He grew up in the Dallas area and then Abilene, graduating from Cooper High School. Tim married Kathy Poe in Abilene on June 29, 1974. Tim loved to spend time with his friends and family, mostly fishing, bird hunting and shooting skeet.

Tim began his life-long career in the tire industry at Abilene Bandag in 1975. He worked for several new and retread dealerships over the last 37 years, ending as Commercial Sales Manager for A to Z Tire. Tim maintained a close relationship with many of his customers and colleagues throughout the years. He guided and counseled many peers that remain in the business today.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Tim is survived by his wife, Kathy Thompson of Boerne; two sons, Joshua Thompson of Austin, Jared Thompson of San Antonio; two sisters, Lynne Thompson of Red Oak, Pamela Hudson and husband Steve of Grand Prairie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross.

Fernando "Fred" Santibanez, 87

Died: Sunday, July 31, 2011, in Abilene, Texas

Fernando "Fred" Santibanez, 87, of Abilene passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, at a local medical center.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Dr. Julian Bridges officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery in Abilene.

Fernando was the grandson of a pioneer family that came to Callahan and Taylor Counties with T & P Railroad in the 1890's.

Fernando was born August 20, 1923 in Abilene to Camillo and Cruz Santibanez. He attended the Americanization School, the Central Ward School and Abilene High School when it was located at the old Lincoln School. He got his G.E.D. in the early 1970's.

He married Ignacia Garcia in June of 1943. Fernando retired from the City of Abilene and worked as a custodian for Abilene ISD. He was a Baptist and had been a member of First Baptist Church since April of 1937.

Fernando was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers, and one stepson.

He is survived by four daughters, one stepdaughter and their husbands, Rachel and Fred Vinas, Thelma and Israel Loya, Karen and Brian Ehrie, Judy Santibanez and Lily Martinez; one sister, Frances Rodriguez; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Aldaco, Fred Vinas, Michael Carter, Christian Hufford, Fred Vinas Jr., Michael Carter Jr., Israel Loya, Lonnie Anthony, Buchanan Anthony, Brian Ehrie, Taylor Carter, Christopher Hufford and Carlos Montez.

Memorials may be given to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of the doctors, nurses and staff of the 5th Floor and Hospice at Hendrick Medical Center.

Charlyne Tugwell Eddins, 98

Died: Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Abilene, Texas

Charlyne Tugwell Eddins, 98, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, in Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 24, 2011 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Don Wilson will officiate.

The daughter of Lillian (Smith) and Joseph Tugwell, Charlyne was born on February 11, 1913 in Paris, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School and attended business college. Charlyne worked a Camp Barkley as a Unit Secretary before working as the secretary for the Earl Jones-Reef Oil Corporation. Charlyne married Truman Charles Eddins on December 17, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2001. She was a member of First Christian Church in Abilene.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Joseph Tugwell, and her sister, Josephine Tugwell. Charlyne is survived by her cousin, W.R. "Red" Smith of Amarillo, and her close friends, Sam and Maudie Reeves of Hamby, as well as several nieces.

Memorials may be made to Disability Resources, P.O. Box 1880, Abilene, TX 79604-1880 or to the donor's favorite charity.

Tatsuko Ishii MacDougall, 80

Died: Saturday, December 06, 2008, in Abilene, Texas

Tatsuko Ishii MacDougall, 80, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2008 at a local hospital. She was born November 18, 1928 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan to Kiyoshi Fujii and Ayako (Ishii) Fujii. In 1944, she graduated from Nursing School in Japan. In March of 1964, Tatsuko entered the United States and in September of 1966 became a United States Citizen. She worked as a Nurse at the Abilene State School, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

Tatsuko's parents preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Robert MacDougall, Jr. of Abilene; one brother, Tadashi Ishii, of Japan; two sisters, Yoshie Yokoyoyamma and Shizuka Toyoda, of Japan; and one grandson, Matthew MacDougall.

Norma Mae Altum, 76

Died: Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in Abilene, Texas

Norma Mae Altum, 76, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at an Abilene medical center.

Born in Fort Sumner, New Mexico on May 11, 1935, Norma was the daughter of the late Thelma Mae (Fletcher) and Arthur Norman Parish. In 1954 she graduated from high school in Atoka, Oklahoma and moved to Abilene. Norma worked for Timex, Texas Instruments and U.S. Bass. She had been a member of Broadview Baptist Church since 1967.

Norma is survived by her husband, Raymond Altum, whom she married November 2, 1962 in Abilene, sister, Mary Sue Kunde of Fort Worth, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 5, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., with Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Broadview Baptist Church Building Fund, 2500 South 27th St., Abilene, TX 79605.
