Bobby Doyle Reynolds, 71
Died: Tuesday, December 13, 2011, in Abilene, Texas
Major Bobby Doyle Reynolds, USAF (Ret.), 71, passed away Tuesday, December 13th, 2011 at home in Abilene, Texas

Reynolds was a 22-year veteran of the USAF and highly decorated Vietnam Veteran with over 650 combat flight hours. Medals earned include an Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Marksmanship, ADF Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Readiness Medal, AF Longevity Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Gallantry Cross with Palm, RVN Campaign Medal, AF Presidential Unit Citation and AF Outstanding Unit Award. Bobby served and loved his country in ways only other military members will understand.

Bobby was born on July 11, 1940, the son of the late Doyle and Margie Reynolds of Atlanta Georgia. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Reynolds of Abilene; daughters, Sherry Reynolds and Christy Reynolds Tomlin, both of Abilene; son, Thomas D. Reynolds of Austin, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, Sandra and husband Allen Peek of Fayetteville, Georgia, and brother, David Reynolds of Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Bobby was a kind, giving man who would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone. Although not perfect, as none of us are, he lived life as best he knew how, always taking care of his family. He had a fondness for animals and has kept and cared for many. He believed in the power of the Cross and that Jesus made the only way for us in this life and the next.

Funeral services with full Military Honors to be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas at 2 PM Saturday the 17th of December, 2011, with visitation following at the funeral home. Pastor Randy Turner from Beltway Baptist Church will officiate. A private family interment will be Monday the 19th at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.

Brenda Kay Lathrop, 59
Died: Friday, March 9, 2012, in Odessa, Texas
Brenda Kay Lathrop, 59, of Odessa, Texas and formerly of Abilene, died Friday, March 9, 2012, at a medical center in Odessa.

The daughter of Jewel Gertrude (Bryant) and H. P. Lilly, Brenda was born on December 26, 1952 in Abilene, Texas, where she graduated from Abilene High School in the Class of 1971, and on July 27, 1974 married Robert L. Lathrop. Brenda worked for Bealls as an assistant manager for thirteen years. For the past eight years, she had been a resident of Odessa where she was a member of Sherwood Church of Christ.

Our wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt had an unbelievable light and love that everyone felt. Her big heart at times was almost too big. She was always there for everyone. When she sang, her beautiful voice could be heard. It was well-known that what she enjoyed more than anything else was spending time with her family. Country western dancing had become her most recent enjoyment.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Robert L. Lathrop of Odessa; son, Eric Jameson Lathrop and Amy Jackson of San Angelo; daughter, Cassandra Kay Terry and husband Skyler of Odessa; and eight grandchildren, Brooklyn, Aaron, Baylie, Lyric, Nevaeh, Javen, Jordan and Arya. Survivors also include four sisters, Flora Yawn and husband Walter, and Dorothy Bullard and husband Bill, all of Clyde, Texas; Olivia Wood of Lawn, Texas; and Frances Copher and husband Charles of Abilene. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at Woodlawn Church of Christ in Abilene with Mark Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Marshall Edward Boykin III, 39
Died: Sunday, May 01, 2011, in Abilene, Texas
Marshall Edward Boykin, III, died peacefully in Hospice care at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene on Sunday, May 1. Marshall was born in Abilene, Texas on January 11, 1972 and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was the owner of Marshall Edward Design and Building Company in Ft. Worth. He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Eddie Boykin. Survivors include his sisters, Sheryl Jenkins of Richmond, Virginia and Kathryn Williams of Abilene; aunts and uncles Jeannette and Jim Boykin of LaJolla, California and Betty and John Oglesbee of San Augustine, Texas; two nephews and six cousins, as well as many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Choir Fund at Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander Street, Abilene, Texas 79602; Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive, Ft. Worth, Texas 76109; Abilene Region Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Fund at the Community Foundation of Abilene, P.O. Box 1001, Abilene, Texas 79604; Rescue the Animals, SPCA, 5933 South First Street, Abilene, Texas 79605; or to a charity of the donor's interest.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive South, Ft. Worth, Texas 76109.

A second memorial service will be held to celebrate his life at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.

Frances Kerr Barnes, 96
Died: Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in Abilene, Texas
Frances Barnes, 96, of Abilene, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at a local nursing center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 6, 2011 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Chaplain James O. Teel will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

Frances was born July 25, 1914 in Lexington, Kentucky to William Graham Kerr and Fannie (Halley) Kerr. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in June of 1936 with a major in English. While attending the University of Kentucky, Frances was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.

She married Augustine Edward Barnes who was a geologist. In January, 1944 they relocated from Owensboro, Kentucky to Midland with Skelley Oil. In February of 1947, they relocated again to Abilene with Lion Oil. Frances joined the staff of Carnegie Public Library in Abilene, still in the old building downtown and was the children's librarian when the new Abilene Public Library opened in the late 1950's. She became librarian at Cooper High School in 1962. Frances earned her master's degree in Library Science from the University of Texas in Austin in 1967. She retired from Cooper High School in 1981. Frances was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Abilene.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Fannie Kerr, her husband, Augustine Edward Barnes in 2001 and one sister, Mary Halley Nantz. Her family was the joy of her life. She is survived by four sons, Graham Barnes of Georgetown, Walter Barnes of Dallas, Edward Barnes of Abilene, and Bill Barnes and his wife Marty of Austin and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in honor of Frances to the Abilene Public Library "Friends of the Library", P.O. Box 1001, Abilene, Texas 79604-1001.

Clyde Verne "Chuck" Ward, 74
Died: Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in Big Spring, Texas
Clyde (Chuck) Verne Ward, 74, passed away on June 8th, 2011.

A memorial service with more of his life story and full military honors will be held Monday, August 8th, 2011, at 3:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Marjorie Lady Ward, his parents Walter and Verna Ward, brothers Rudy and Walter, and a sister Kathleen.

Survivors include two sons, Forrest Ward and his wife Janie of Seattle, and Guy (G.T. or Cowboy) Ward and his wife Jackie of Abilene, as well as three grandchildren, Nicole of Austin and Nathan and Ryan of Seattle.

The family would like to express our thanks to all of the nurses, aids, doctors, and employees of the VA Hospital in Big Spring (5th Floor) for taking care of our dad during the time he was there. Thank You!

James B. "Jim" Skinner, 90
Died: Friday, June 17, 2011, in Abilene, Texas
James B. (Jim) Skinner, 90, of Abilene, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011 at his home. Visitation will be on Monday evening, June 20, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, in Abilene.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Reverend Art Goolsbee of Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest officiating.

Jim was born May 6, 1921 in Dallas, Texas and moved to Abilene in 1933. He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Mack and Blanche Merchant. Mack Merchant became his mentor and friend, and taught Jim about ranching, farming, roping, and horsemanship. Jim often spoke of him as the finest man he had ever known.

He graduated from Abilene High School in 1939. In 1942 he joined the military, and served in the United States Army for 3 years during WWII. He traveled overseas to fight in the European Theater, stationed mostly in Germany. Before shipping out, he married Geraldine (Jerry) McElheny in Dallas on December 27, 1944.

After the war, Jim returned to Abilene, where he farmed and ranched on the family's land northwest of town. An ardent calf and steer roper in his younger days, he loved horses until the end. He bred and raised both Quarter and Thoroughbred race horses, partnering at times with his good friend Dr. Phil (Doc) Smith. In addition to roping and horses, he enjoyed working on the ranch, hunting, and shooting with his two sons, and was once active in the Abilene Gun Club.

He served on the board of The West Texas Rehabilitation Center and was the first chairman of the Cattlemen's Roundup for Crippled Children. He was on the board of directors of Abilene National Bank and the Citizens State Bank of Cross Plains. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest where he served on the vestry and various committees, and he was a founding member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Abilene.

He was devoted to his wife, Jerry, who preceded him in death on December 28, 1998. They were married for 54 years.

He is survived by son Jim M. Skinner and his friend, Gloria Lantzy of Abilene, son Mack C. Skinner and his wife Debbie of Abilene, and granddaughter Allison Skinner of Austin. He also leaves behind his beloved friend and companion, Irene Pope of Abilene.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas, 79605, Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 602 Meander, Abilene, Texas, 79602, or the donor's favorite charity.

Elizabeth Teresa Townsley, 83
Died: Saturday, July 09, 2011, in Abilene, Texas
Elizabeth Teresa Townsley, 83, of Abilene passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Danny Bell will officiate. Burial will follow at the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Elizabeth was born April 11, 1928 in Poughkeepsie, New York to Martin Habinowski and Katherine (Kosazka). She has been a resident of Abilene since the 1950's. Elizabeth married Jack W. Townsley in Breckenridge, Texas on June 7, 1952.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and two sisters. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Joanna Elizabeth Townsley of Abilene; one sister Mary "Maime" Dankin of New York and her two babies, Pepper and Taffy. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Andrew Rudy Silva, 55
Died: Thursday, September 08, 2011, in Belen, New Mexico
Andrew Rudy Silva, 55, of Abilene, died Thursday, September 8, 2011 in Belen, New Mexico.

Born in Belen, New Mexico on January 15, 1956, he was the son of Beatriz (Jiron) and Gilbert Silva. He was a graduate of West Oso High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, and attended college for two years. He was an aircraft electrician in the U. S. Air Force, retiring in 1998 at Dyess AFB after a 22-year military career. Following his military retirement, Andrew took a job overseas in Saudi Arabia where he worked for the last 12 years.

Andrew was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Silva, on February 8, 2011.

Survivors include his three sons, Andrew Silva and wife Jenny, Phil Silva, and Pete Silva all of Abilene; daughter, Sarah Anderson and husband Devin of Abilene; and three grandchildren, Aikman Anderson, Pippa Anderson and Adrian Silva. Andrew is also survived by his parents, Gilbert and Betty Silva of Belen, NM; four brothers, Anthony Silva and wife Diana of Albuquerque, NM, George Silva and Paul Silva of Belen, NM, and Greg Silva of Tucson, NM; two sisters, Sharon Salas and husband Leo Sandoval of Belen NM, and Monica Cosme and husband Isaac of Austin, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 15, in Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
