Maurice Eubank
Services for Maurice Eubank, 83, Canton, were held July 2, 2003, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with the Reverends Bill Hedges, Ronnie Daniel and Louie Barron officiating. Burial was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Inc., Canton.
Eubank was born Jan. 5, 1920, in the Wentworth Community near Canton to Burton Cooper and Hope Smith Brown, and died June 29, 2003, in Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Eubank, and grandson, Jonathan Russell Eubank.
She graduated from Grand Saline High School and when she was 18 had earned a teachers certificate from North Texas State Teachers College. She continued in the summers to earn a BS in Home Economics.
She owned and operated Eubank Funeral Home and Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton. She had been active in the Texas Association of Life Insurance Officials, Texas Cemetery Association and the Texas Funeral Directors Association. She has supported her community churches, schools and other organizations.
She served the community in many other capacities such as operating the ambulance service, the Ben Franklin Store and Eubank True Value Hardware, Furniture, and Appliance store. She often expressed how grateful and thankful she and her husband were for the support of customers and friends through the years.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Joy Eubank, Canton; Dr. Jimmy and Sandra Eubank, Plano; and Russell Kent and Carol Eubank, Canton; sisters, Maxine Pine and Joy Ford; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Tim Wright, Dr. John Turner, Don Beaty, Bob Miller, Henry Lewis and Charles Page.

Marshall Lee
Services for Marshal D. Lee, 76, Bullard, were held June 30, 2003, at County Line Baptist church with the Rev. Tom Pesnell officiating. Burial was in Bullard Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Boren-Conner Funeral Home, Bullard.
Lee was born Dec. 15, 1926, in Smith County, and died June 27, 2003, in Tyler. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosanna Jones.
He was a retired machinist mechanic at Tyler Pipe Industries and a member of the County Line Baptist Church. He served in the Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Lee, Bullard; sons, Marshall Dennis Lee, Kemp; Howard Lee Brooks, Bullard; daughters, Robbie Dean Lee, Plano; Susie McCoy, Austin; Jamie Culpepper, Flint; Ann Gilbert, Arp; Ruth Peppers and Kathie Hughes, both of Bullard; sisters, Val Starr, Tyler; and Evelyn Brooks, Dallas; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Marshall Curtis Lee, Shane Culpepper, Michael Culpepper, Kevin McElroy, Kyle Neal, Mark Hill, Johnny Culpepper, Dewayne Gilbert and James Bowdle.

George Whitton
Services for George L. Whitton, 90, Canton, were held July 1, 2003, at Eubank Funeral Home chapel, Canton, with Brother David Fretwell officiating. Burial was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park, Canton, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home, Canton.
Whitton was born April 6, 1911, in Canton to the late Elijah and Sarah Catherine Gay Whitton, and died June 28, 2003, in Canton. He was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
He lived most of his life in Whitton Community and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Lorene Gore Whitton, Canton; son, Terry Whitton, Canton; daughter, Jo Ann Dover, Canton; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; ;one step great grandchild; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Nolan Dover, Alan Dover, Dean Bailey, Doug Pelham, Bobby Whitton and Billy Whitton.

Lucille Caldwell
Graveside services for Lucille Caldwell, 98, Malakoff, were held June 30, 2003, at Malakoff Cemetery with Ron Huckabee officiating under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home, Malakoff.
Caldwell was born April 17, 1905, in Malakoff to the late Samuel and Mary Harvill Weller, and died June 28, 2003, in Malakoff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Caldwell in 1972, and children, James Caldwell and Nadabeth Hairgrove.
She was a schoolteacher and member of the Methodist Church and Rebecca Lodge, where she served as grand matron.
Survivors include her daughters, Marygene Mullins, Athens; and Martha Doherty, Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Erma Lee Ruff
Services for Erma Lee Ruff, 82, Mabank, were held June 30, 2003, in the Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Teague officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Ruff was born July 4, 1920, in Kemp, and died June 29, 2003, in Kaufman. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.H. "Buck" Ruff.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Betty and her husband, Gene Irwin, Duncanville; and Carla Stone, Kemp; sister, Leona Haney, Mabank; brother, Coot Murphy; grandchildren, Christi Hale, Jeff Irwin, Gene Irwin Jr., Brandy Stone and Shane Stone; special friends, Wynell Hall and Jean Richman.
Pallbearers were Beau Smith, Charles McNew, Midge Odom, John Smith, Bobby Stark and Scott Woodard.

Velma Cornell Morris
Services for Velma Cornell Morris, 91, Gun Barrel City, were held at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Billy Hatcher officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Morris was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Clarksville and died June 29, 2003, in Gun Barrel City.
She was in sales and was a member of AARP and the '49ers.
Survivors include her son, Willard Cornell, Austin; daughter, LaQuita Sims, Gun Barrel City; sister, Murl Cantrell, Vacaville, Calif.; brother, C.E. Watson Jr., Gladewater; grandaughters, Belinda Creekmore, Terri Reaves, Vicki Shelton and Connie Cornell-Denier; and eight great grandchildren.

Larry Don Bennett
Services for Larry Don Bennett, 54, were held June 30, 2003, in Tolosa Baptist Church, Tolosa, with James Hughes officiating.
Bennett was born April, 8, 1949, in Waco and died June 28, 2003, in Athens.
He was a member of Tolosa Baptist Church. He was a welder for Central Freight Lines.
Survivors include his wife, Portia Bennett; mother, Louise Bennett, Alvarado; daughters, Margarett Rapp and husband, David, Dallas; Kelli Barnes and husband, Larry, Dallas; and Belinda Tawney and husband, Shawn, Garland; stepson, Gary Hudson and his wife, Cathey, Garland; brother, Douglas Bennett, Alvarado; five grandchildren, Brandy, Kayla, Kristopher, Sara and Tyler.

Willie Murphy
Services for Willie Donie Murphy, 81, Mabank, were held June 30, 2003, at Hilliard Funeral Home, Van, with the Rev. Dennis Woods officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery under the direction of Hilliard Funeral Home, Van.
Murphy was born Sept. 18, 1921, in Kaufman County to Jule and Minnie B. McClain Hopkins, and died June 27, 2003, in a Tyler hospital. She was preceded in death by husbands, Love Bryant McLeod and Alfred Murphy; sons, Wesley Mac McLeod and Jerry Lynn McLeod; and daughter, Joyce Ann Winchester.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include her sons, Roy Lee McLeod, Mabank; and Homer Carroll McLeod, Wills Point; daughters, Mae Taylor, Campbell; and Bonnie Jo Foster, Edgewood; sisters, Bessie Klutts, Tyler; Ruth Dodd, Ben Wheeler; and Marie Bond, Grand Saline; 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Tammie Baker
Services for Tammie R. Baker, 33, Overton, will be held July 1, 2003, at Burrows Overton Funeral Home, Overton, with the Rev. Don McPherson officiating. Burial was in Pirtle Cemetery, Kilgore, under the direction of Burrows Overton Funeral Home.
Baker was born Dec. 1, 1969, in Overton to Billy Sr. and Freida Barton Hightower and died June 28, 2003, in Tyler.
She was a lifelong resident of Overton and was a member of the Overton Missionary Baptist Church. She worked as secretary for Professional Staffing of Tyler and also worked as a truck driver.
Survivors include her twin sons, Randy and Cody Baker, Overton; daughter, Jennifer Baker, Overton; brothers, Billy James Hightower Jr., Corsicana; Robert Hightower, Eustace; Bobby Ray Hightower, Slaton; James Lee Hightower, Big Bear, Calif.; John Fry and Joe Fry, both of Tyler; sisters, Shirley Barrett, Slaton; and Marsha Dyler, California.
Pallbearers were Kirk Harman, Jim Bees, Jason Worley, Sammy Keene, Claude McAfee and Ed Barrett.

Kaleb Tripp Godwin
Services of remembrance were held for Kaleb Tripp Godwin, 7, Spring, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp, with the Rev. Brad Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Kemp Cemetery.
Godwin was born Nov. 21, 1995, in Athens, to Richard Glen and Amy Annice Godwin and died June 30, 2003, in Dallas.
He attended Salyers Elementary School in Spring.
Survivors include his father, Rick Godwin, Spring; mother, Amy McCullough, Gun Barrel City; brothers, Kaeman, Pino and Seth; paternal grandparents, Gerald Godwin, Houston; and Monte Godwin, Conroe; maternal grandparents, Mark and Carolynne Rhys, Payne Springs; paternal great grandparents, Edith Godwin, Kemp; maternal great grandparents, Betty Stenger, Malakoff; and Wendall and JoAnn Adcock, Payne Springs; and many other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Rick Godwin, Gerald Godwin, Dustin Nagel, Michael Asay, Mark Rhys and Matthew Rhys.

John H. Durst
John H. Durst, 28, Mabank, died July 6, 2003 in Mabank. No services scheduled at this time.
Durst was born Dec. 12, 1974, in Dallas.
He was a laborer.
Survivors include his father, Roy Glenn Durst, Sr., Wylie; mother, Deborah Alexander, Quinlan; and brother, Roy Glenn Durst, Jr., Quinlan.

Joel Lynn Carey
Joel Lynn Carey, 64, Mabank, died July 12, 2003, at his residence. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Carey was born Nov. 13, 1936, in Dallas.
He was a chef.
Survivors include his sons, Edward Carey, West Lafayette, Ind.; and Johnny Carey, Mabank; and daughter, Debra Shaid, Mabank.

Harold P. Stout, Sr.
Services of Remembrance were held for Harold Phillip Stout, Sr., 80, Seven Points, July 16, 2003, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with Dr. Rocky Weatherford officiating. Interment was in the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
Stout was born May 17, 1923, in Grand Island, Neb., to Levi Allen and Emily Lola (Verley) Stout, and died July 12, 2003, in Wills Point. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Emily Mae Stout; grandson, Michael Deon Stout; brothers, James and Floyd Stout; and sister, Maxine Compton.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as a staff sergeant. He completed basic training at Camp Gruber, Okla., and then shipped to the 32nd Infantry Division in New Guinea, where he fought on the front lines.
He was also stationed in the Philippines with the 128th Battalion. After the peace treaty was signed, he was shipped to Japan, where he reenlisted and served seven years in the Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Louise Stout, Kemp; daughters, Cheryl Dodson, Kemp ; and Delpha Stout, Springfield, Ill.; sons, Harold P. Stout, Jr. and Gary M. Stout, both of O'Fallon, Mo.; stepson, Elton McGuire, Canton; brothers, Daniel Stout and Danford Lee Stout, both of Grand Island, Neb.; and Clyde LeRoy Stout, Nashua, Mont.; sister, Donna Mae Gorin, Semi Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
