McDaniel
Frank H. McDaniel, 76, died Friday, Aug. 12, 2005.
He was a Navy veteran who served his country in the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime charter member of the VFW Post 6119 in George West.
Mr. McDaniel was born in Lake Charles, La. in 1929 to Cecil and Vivian (Parsley) McDaniel.
Survivors include a son, Lane Fabian of Dallas; and a daughter, Sherrie Fabian of Corona, Calif.
A graveside service with military honors was held Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. at the George West Cemetery.

Metzler
Curtis W. “Curt” Metzler, 55, of Luling died Wednesday, Aug. 17, in Citizen’s Hospital in Victoria after a brief battle with cancer.
Services were held at Central Baptist Church in Luling on Saturday, Aug. 20, with the Rev. Randolph Robbins officiating. A graveside service was held Sunday at the Mitchell Family Cemetery in Marfa.
Pallbearers were James Montgomery, Jay Edmiston, B.J. Northcutt, David Moore, Larry Hoffman and Rick Harborth. Honorary pallbearers were Pete Rose, Hayes Mitchell, Ray Seay, the Progress Drilling Crew and Cowboy.
Mr. Metzler was born in Bellville, on Jan. 2, 1950, to Jack Curtis and Faye Evelyn (Bookman) Metzler.
He graduated from Luling High School in 1968 and attended Tarleton State in Stephenville. He was a member of Central Baptist Church. He had worked as a tool pusher for Progress Drilling Inc. for the past several years and also ranched and raised cattle.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Curtis (Tenille) Metzler of Mansfield and Mark Fredrich Metzler of Gonzales; two grandchildren, Madison and Mason Metzler of Mansfield; one brother, Kent (Debbie) Metzler of Luling; two aunts, Grace and Ollie Metzler of Tomball; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special lady, Susan Bradley of Edna.
Arrangements were under the direction of O’Bannon Funeral Home in Luling.

Monse
Gene G. Monse, 61, of George West, died Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 in Jourdanton. Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 22, at Roberson Funeral Home in Three Rivers. Funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in George West. Burial followed with military honors and a Mason ceremony at the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Collin, Brandon Clifton, Sidney Fischer Jr., Arthur Morton, Jr. Ferrell and Charles Sitka. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Busby, Gene Riser, Lamon Bennett, Mark Cox, Tighe Brown, Hershel Caron and Walter Homes.
Mr. Monse was born to Albert and Helen (Miller) Monse on Jan. 19, 1944, in Orange Grove.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Monse of George West; a son, Wesley (Tammy) Monse of Fannett; four daughters, Jolene (Robbie) Monse of Port Neches, Krystal (Brandon) Clifton of George West, Cindy (Robert) Studlar of Karnes City and Leah Alvarado of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren, Kayla, Weston, Matt, Courtney, Steven, Megan, Des, Ashley, Amber, Matthew, Cassie and Erynn Brooke; two sisters, Millie Melacon of Daisetta and Sue Monse of San Antonio; three brothers, Dean and Mike Monse of Poteet and Tom Monse of Flatonia; and one aunt, Iva Ray Dowden of Pleasanton.

Hedtke
Calvin W. Hedtke, 80, of Three Rivers died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005 in Three Rivers.
Visitation and a prayer service were held Sunday, Oct. 23, at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home in Three Rivers. The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Three Rivers with Pastor Norman Sulaica officiating and the Rev. Harry West assisting. Burial followed at the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Beyer, Dean Beyer, Tom Snider, John Snider, Mike Snider and Alvin Knotts.
Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Snider, John Knotts, David Wieland, Duncan Hedtke, Mike Hedtke, Mickey Hedtke, Harlyn Goebel, Bryan Knotts, Luke Goebel, Gregg Goebel, Gordon Goebel, Jeff Goebel, Randall Rosebrock, Justin Meeks, Blanton Robertson, Booky Goebel, Ott Goebel Jr., Adam Snider and Hondo August Goebel.
“Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “My God and I” were sung. Organist was Stephanie Harris.
Mr. Hedtke was born to Otto and Bertha (Krietsch) Hedtke on Nov. 8, 1924 in Cabesa. He married Frances Goebel on June 20, 1992, in Three Rivers. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Guam in the South Pacific. Mr. Hedtke worked for Martin Brothers Construction and Ed Travis and Sons. He was a life member of Admiral Nimitz and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Lutheran church. He loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and driving around his ranch and tending to his cattle.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Frances Goebel of Oakville; four stepsons, Mike (Kathy) Snider, Tom (Patti) Snider, Jerry (Lynn) Snider and Johnny (Cari) Snider, all of San Antonio; one brother, Milton (Alyne) Hedtke of Mathis; one sister, Helen (Andy) Wieland of Mathis; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Terrell) Rosebrock and Darlene Goebel, both of Three Rivers; one brother-in-law, Otto Goebel of George West; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hedtke was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Martin Snider Hedtke; his parents; one sister, Tillie Wittie; one brother, Irvin Hedtke; and one brother-in-law, Larry Goebel.

Marroquin
Jesus Marroquin Jr., 73, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at an Alice hospital.
Mr. Marroquin was born on Jan. 4, 1932, to Jesus Sr. and Maria (Muñoz) Marroquin in Hebbronville. He married Victoria Reyna on July 21, 1951. Mr. Marroquin worked as a farmer and rancher at the M&E Ranch for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Marroquin was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Maria Marroquin.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria Marroquin of Concepcion; his sons and daughters-in-law, Joe L. and Mellie Marroquin of George West, Juan Manuel and Olga Marroquin of Hebbronville and Jesse Marroquin III of Concepcion; his daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Maria and Rafael Cortez of Laredo, Rosa and Ferman Lopez from Alice, Norma Linda and Matt Powell of Liberty and Evelina Marroquin of Concepcion; two sisters, Emma Garza and Eliza Saenz, both of Hebbronville; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Howard-Williams-Turcotte Funeral Home, Hebbronville.

Still
Herman C. Still, 75, of Calliham died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005 at his home.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Rice Funeral Service in Claremore, Okla. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Sixkiller Cemetery in Afton, Okla.
Mr. Still was born on May 21, 1930, to Curtis Bill and Eva Mary (Breedlove) Still at the McFarlin Ranch in Inola. He was an iron worker out of Local 67 in Des Moines, Iowa, for many years and retired from Local 584.
Mr. Still enjoyed and was active in rodeo competition for 20 years. Of all the rodeo events he worked, saddle bronco riding was his favorite, having won a couple trophy saddles to show for it. During his later years, he enjoyed fishing and having friends over for cookouts.
Survivors include three daughters, Paula Still of East Hampton, Conn., Kelly (David) Green of Vinton, Iowa and Rhonda (Verlin) Potts of Boone, Iowa; three grandchildren, Tonja, Jimmy and Bryce; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Virgil Still of Claremore, Okla.; and his companion, Nora Bryant of Calliham.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Rice Funeral Service, Claremore, Okla.

Buxkamper
Lawrence Emil Buxkamper, 88, of George West, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 20, and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home in George West. Mass was celebrated this morning at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles Wings” were sung.
Burial followed at the St. George Catholic Cemetery in George West.
Pallbearers were Sherman Clifton Jr., J.D. Clifton, Fred Davis, Larry Holm, Jo Kast and Sandy Tullis. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Dirks, Tom Forehand and Travis Martin.
Mr. Buxkamper was born to Otto J. and Frieda (Richter) Buxkamper on May 1, 1917, in Frelsburg. He married Janie Bell Geffert in George West on Feb. 21, 1939, and was member of St. George Catholic Church. He was self-employed as a mechanic and welder for 40 years at Buxkamper Garage.
Mr. Buxkamper was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include one daughter, Jerlene (Marty) Epperly of San Antonio; one son, Larry (Tammy) Buxkamper of Corpus Christi; five sisters, Evelyn Dubose of Alice, Celestine Mayes of Bakersfield, Calif., Lilly Maglothin of Petosky, Mich., Mary (Leroy) Selix and Josie (Al) Palmer of Cottage Grove, Ore.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one brother, Mervin J. Buxkamper of Bandera.

Stark
Thomas R. Stark, 53, a former Three Rivers resident, of Brazoria died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005. Mr. Stark was born to Fred Stark and Ruby (Samford) Payne on Oct. 7, 1951, in Kingsville. He was an independent truck driver for many years.
Survivors include his parents, Ruby and James Payne of Three Rivers; a son, Wesley Kolb of Antioch, Tenn.; four brothers, Fred Stark III of Ingleside, Earl Stark of West Columbia, James Stark of Tuleta and Roy Payne of Woodsboro; and four sisters, Karen Lois Brown of Austin, Nancy Coquat and Sharon Jones, both of Three Rivers, and Rita Trojcak of Refugio.
Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 9, at Roberson Funeral Home. A memorial service was held Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Three Rivers.
