Bill McCune
September 21, 1917 - January 1, 2003

Bill McCune was born September 21, 1917, in Leavenworth, Kansas, to Forrest and Helen McCune. He died January 1, 2003, in Bryan, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, January 4, at First Baptist Church, Bryan, with Reverend Tim Owens officiating. Burial will be in Bryan City Cemetery. Family visitation will be Friday from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at Hillier Funeral Home.

Mr. McCune’s public school education was in Kansas and Oklahoma. He received his B.S. degree from Kansas State University, and in 1941 came to Texas A&M University for graduate work in Agricultural Engineering. While there, he met Mary L. (Jo) Tillison and they were married on November 6, 1942, in Bryan, Texas.

Following his graduation, he was employed by Central Power & Light in Corpus Christi and Uvalde, Texas. He returned to TAMU in 1959 as Professor and Director of Farm Electrification Research. He was the recipient of the George W. Kable award, given for personal and professional achievement in applied electricity through agricultural engineering. After returning to classroom teaching, he was chosen by his students as Outstanding Professor.

Mr. McCune was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Bryan, where he was church clerk and taught a young men’s Bible class for many years, after which he became a member of the Business Men’s Bible Class.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary L. (Jo) McCune; a daughter, Julia (Judy) H. Mitchell and her husband David Mitchell of Los Altos, California; two grandsons, Mark Mitchell of Palo Alto, California, and Greg Mitchell of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Keehn and her husband, William A. Keehn of Overland Park, Kansas, and his niece Sherry Brookover and her family of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Bryan Building Fund, the Agricultural Engineering Scholarship Fund at Texas A&M University, or Hospice of Brazos Valley.

Samuel Stephen George, Jr.
February 9, 1934 - January 1, 2003

Memorial services for Samuel Stephen George, Jr., age 68, of Bryan, will be held Sunday at 1:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Msgr. John McCaffrey will officiate. Sam died at his home Wednesday, January 1, 2003.

Sam was born February 9, 1934 in Dallas, Texas. He received his Bachelors Degree in Communication from Southern Methodist University in 1955, and in 1978 he received his Masters Degree from Texas A&M University in Education Psychology. He was a Counselor with the Brazos Valley Work Force in Bryan.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Bryan Rotary Club. Sam is survived by his wife Marge George of Bryan; one son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Bridgette George of College Station; two daughters, Jennifer Charanza and Stephanie George both of Bryan; five grandchildren, William Charanza of Bryan, Jeffrey George of College Station, Aubrey George of College Station, Kelli Charanza of Bryan, and Ashlie George of Bryan; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Greg and Marie George of Euless, Texas, Don George of Dallas, and Dennis and Terri George of Dallas; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Cathy and Freddie Wright and Lynn Seale of Bryan, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brazos Valley Veteran’s Memorial or to the Bryan Rotary’s Polio Eradication Fund.

Lucile Nadine Ashmore
Aug. 25, 1915 — Jan. 2, 2003

DENVER CITY — Services for Lucile Nadine Ashmore, 87, of Denver City are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Denver City.

The Revs. Weldon McCormick and Steve Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in the Denver City Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home in Denver City.

Mrs. Ashmore died Thursday in the Yoakum City Hospital.

She was born in Fort Worth and lived in Denver City since 1945. She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and was employed by J.M. Trent Insurance in the 1950s and ’60s. She was a member of the Faithful Adult Sunday School Class at the Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, W.D. “Duncan” Ashmore; two sons, Douglas Ashmore of Odessa and Larry Steven Ashmore of Lufkin; a daughter, Sandra Harmon of Denver City; a sister, Betty Hogan of Bryan; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

John H. Brannon
June 1, 1929 — Jan. 2, 2003

Memorial services for the Rev. John H. Brannon, 73, of Bryan are set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Philip McLarty of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Rev. Brannon died Thursday at Sherwood Health Care.

He was born in Austin and lived in Bryan since 1990. He served as a minister in churches in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana prior to his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Lu G. Brannon of Bryan; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Juanita Brannon of San Leon; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judeth and Bob Corey of Manvel and Anna Margaret “Peggy” Brannon of Bryan; a brother, James G. Brannon of Pearland; a sister, Evelyn Grey of Irvine, Calif.; and a grandchild.

Rick Crockett
Oct. 30, 1949 — Dec. 30, 2002

ROCKDALE — Graveside services for Rick Crockett, 53, of Houston are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

The Rev. Brian Bauer of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Crockett died Monday at his home.

He was born in Sheffield, Ala., and lived in Houston since 1985. He served in the U.S. Navy and was disabled since a 1984 automobile accident.

Survivors include his father, William R. Crockett and wife Juanita of Houston; and a sister, Vicki Crockett of Redondo Beach, Calif.

Edna Dockall
Aug. 12, 1927 — Jan. 2, 2003

ROCKDALE — Services for Edna Dockall, 75, of Rockdale are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

David Bankston will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dockall died Thursday at Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale.

She was born in Milam County and lived in Rockdale since 1962. She was a grocery clerk at Quick Stop and was an Avon dealer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aden C. Dockall.

Survivors include a son, Larry Dockall of Houston; and a daughter, Brenda Meuth of Rockdale.

Samuel Stephen George Jr.
Feb. 19, 1934 — Jan. 1, 2003

Memorial services for Samuel Stephen George Jr., 68, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Monsignor John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan
will officiate.
Mr. George died Wednesday at his home.

He was born in Dallas and lived in the Bryan-College Station area since 1955. He received a bachelor of science degree in communications from SMU in 1955 and a masters in education psychology from Texas A&M University in 1978. James Russell Hickman III
Jan. 1, 2003 — Jan. 1, 2003

Graveside services for James Russell Hickman III, infant, of Bryan are set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bryan City Cemetery.

The Rev. Mike Wilkinson of Central Baptist Church will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

James died Wednesday in the College Station Medical Center.

He was born in College Station.

Survivors include his parents, Coddy Wall and James Russell “J.R.” Hickman II, both of Bryan; and his grandparents, Randy and Lora Brown and Virgil and Brenda Wall, all of Gause, Johnny and Jane Beran and Ellen Kannaday, all of Rockdale, Gary Brown of Tulsa, Okla., Cole and Mona Hickman and Connie Hickman and John Gilbert, all of Houston, and Norma and Jim Hickman of Bryan.

William ‘Bill’ E. McCune
Sept. 21, 1917 — Jan. 1, 2003

Services for William “Bill” E. McCune, 85, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Bryan.

The Rev. Tim Owens of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. McCune died Wednesday at his home.
