Graveside service: 10 a.m. Thursday in Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth.

Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Maxine Smith was born March 24, 1922, in Jonesboro, Texas.

She was a member of Chapel Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. L. Smith Jr., in 1985.

Survivors: Sons, Rodney Earl Smith of Baytown, Neel T. Smith of Crowley and David Anthony Smith of Fort Worth; daughters, Betty E. Bransom of Arlington, Cynthia Marie Cloud of Oakdale, La., Carmen Gail Mann of Crowley, Kim Horan of Fort Worth and Pam Strother of Oakdale, La.; 23 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Phil Spalding
ARLINGTON -- Phil Spalding, 77, a retired Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer, died Monday, June 2, 1997, in Arlington.

Memorial service: 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 911 S. Davis in Arlington.

Memorials: American Cancer Society, Arlington Unit, P.O. Box 433, Arlington, Texas 76010.

Phil Spalding was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Enid, Okla., and was raised there.

He attended the University of Arkansas. Mr. Spalding was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a longtime member of Rolling Hills County Club and an active member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church of Arlington for 45 years. He was employed by LTV for 35 years and retired in 1982. He was a member of the retired LTV Clown's Association. He enjoyed traveling and coaching Little League Baseball.

Survivors: Wife, Mary Spalding of Arlington; sons, James P. Spalding of Trophy Club and Edward J. Spalding of Arlington; sister, Sylvia Weston of Rogers, Ark.; six grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren.

MINERAL WELLS -- Roland Glendon Spurlock, 81, a maintenance worker who retired in 1973, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at a Mineral Wells hospital.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday at Mineral Wells Church of God. Burial: Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells.

Roland Glendon Spurlock was born Dec. 16, 1915, in Palo Pinto County. He was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors: Daughters, Geneva Smith of Plano and Carolyn Smith of Mineral Wells; grandsons, Kevin Adkins and Caleb Smith of Mineral Wells; granddaughters, Julie Nickles of Highland Village and Nancy Sabolik of Lewisville; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Adam Nickles of Highland Village.

DECATUR -- Ruth B. Gotcher Stone, 86, a homemaker, died Tuesday, June 2, 1997, at a Decatur nursing home.

Funeral: 3 p.m. Thursday at Coker Funeral Home. Burial: Sweetwater Cemetery in Wise County. Visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ruth B. Gotcher Stone was born July 5, 1910, in Decatur. She married Jess Gotcher on Jan. 2, 1930, who preceded her in death in December 1985. She married Gilbert Stone in November 1987, who preceded her in death in November 1996. She was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church in Decatur.

Survivors: Daughters, Maxine Walker, Joyce McDaniel and Dorothy Childers of Decatur and Betty Smith of Bridgeport; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Donald "Don" Ward was born Sept. 29, 1925, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He retired in 1980.

Bobby Joe Wise was born May 29, 1936, in Fayetteville, Ark., and moved to Azle in 1964. He was a member of Azle Christian Center. Mr. Wise retired in 1990 after working 13 years for the city of Azle.

Survivors: Wife of 31 years, Mamie Wise; son, Bobby Wise of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

GRANBURY -- Albert L. Alford, 68, an accountant, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at an Irving hospital.

Albert L. Alford was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Seminole, Okla. He was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and Haltom City Masonic Lodge No. 1331. Mr. Alford served in the Air Force at Carswell AFB.

Lois Marie Naquin Bailey was born Aug. 7, 1920, in White Castle, La.

Lois was a loving and dedicated mother, not only to her own family, but also to the numerous children she provided care for over the years.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Naquin, and a sister, Rose Maryn Naquin.

Survivors: Husband of 50 years, John E. Bailey Jr. of Arlington; sons, John E. Bailey III of Temple, Robert Bailey of Banning, Calif., Walter Bailey of Wildomar, Calif., and Eugene Bailey of Venus; daughters, Cathy Wash of Arlington and Rebecca Bailey of Roanoke; brothers, Hector Naquin, Standley Naquin and Charles Naquin, all of Louisiana; sisters, Nellie Arabie, Gertrude Hebert, Beatrice Poche and Shirley Dunn, all of Louisiana; nine grandchildren; brother-in-law, Thomas Bailey Sr.; sister-in-law, Sister Mary Kay Bailey, O.P.; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Herschell Boyd Beauchamp was born Oct. 4, 1918, in Wise County, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Boyd and the Horseshoe Riding Club.

Mr. Beauchamp married his wife, Juanita, on Aug. 7, 1937, in Fort Worth.

Survivors: Wife of 59 years, Juanita Beauchamp of Boyd; son and daughter- in-law, Robert and Kris Beauchamp of Terlingua; daughters and sons-in-law, Loveta and Ronnie Smith of Boyd and Lacreta and Rob Carr of China Spring; brother, Herman Beauchamp of San Angelo; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
