Homer Flores

SPEARMAN - Homer Flores, 63, died Saturday, March 21, 2009.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 9 a.m. at Hansford Cemetery with Rev. Jose Gomez officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Boxwell Brothers' Funeral home of Spearman.

Homer was born on January 31, 1946 in Alice, Texas. He married Bernice Torres on May 29, 1965 in Spearman.

Homer was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Spearman. He was employed by Northern Natural Gas for 25 years and owned and operated Flores and Sons Ditching.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Flores; a sister, Marilyn Cain; and a granddaughter, Kaysha Flores.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Flores of Spearman; a son, Tim Flores of Spearman; two brothers, Henry Flores and Hector Flores, both of Spearman; two sisters, Mary Pacheco of Clovis, NM and Diana Flores of Gulfport, MS; a granddaughter, Bethanie Flores of Spearman; and a grandson, Justin Flores of Spearman.

Dicky D. Enns

Dicky D. Enns, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, March 21, 2009.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 in Llano Cemetery with Shawn Wyly officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

Dicky was born March 5, 1935, in Guymon, Okla., to Dietrich A. Enns and Susie Ann East Enns. He married his beloved wife, LaVonne LeGrange, on April 25, 1959, in Liberal, Kan.

Dicky worked for Southwestern Public Service Co. for 37 years, retiring on April 1, 1997. He leaves behind so many close and dear friends he worked with through the years.

He loved his family so much. He was a good husband, father and grandfather.

Dicky dedicated his life to his wife and soul mate, LaVonne; daughter, Alicia, his baby girl and angel; his son-in-law, Chad, whom he loved dearly, like a son; and his three grandsons, who brought him such joy and happiness. He taught them how to play poker, cards and Wahoo, and took them fishing.

He had the pleasure of watching them grow up to be fine young men, whom he loved dearly. He was truly blessed, and so was his family for having him with us.

Dicky found our Lord Jesus Christ and was baptized and a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. He loved his Lord and knew he would be in a better place with Jesus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Noran Enns.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; a precious daughter, Alicia Enns Pitts and husband Chad; three grandsons, Greg, Morgan and Logan Pitts; a brother, Robert Enns and wife Lural of Dalhart; three sisters, Donna Chapman and husband Charlie of Tulia, Betty Moore and husband Dale of Guymon and Patricia Spoonemore of Spearman; and a sister-in-law, Velma Enns of Guymon, Okla.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society, 3915 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109; or BSA Hospice, in care of Olivia's Angels, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Audrey E. McGuire

AUDREY EDNA McGUIRE was born November 19, 1911 in Haskell County to Ira and Effie May Winningham Griffith. She moved with her parents to County Line in 1922. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue Church of Christ and the County Line Quilting Club.

She was married to Martin Mc Guire in Littlefield November 24, 1928. He died Sept. 19, 1964. Also preceding her in death were two children, Joy Dean and a baby boy, a grandchild, De Linda; three brothers, Delbert, Vernon and Frank, and nthree sisters, Crystal, Marie and Velma.

Survivors include two sons; Donald and wife Jo Ann, of Muleshoe and Derl and wife Frances, of Shallowater; a daughter, Carolyn and husband Doyce Woods of Shallowater; a sister, Dell Perrin, of Valle D’Oro, Texas; six grandchildren, Marty, Diane, Wayne, Dean, Darla and Gib; seventeen great grandchildren, Ray, Rhae, Amy, Shea, Megan, Blair, Ryan, Jennifer, Alicia, Camille, Matthew, Corby, Weston, Tate, Tyse, Trey and Chance and eight great, great grandchildren.

Mrs. McGuire died Friday, March 1, 2002 at the age of 90.

Jeanette C. Hewitt

Jeanette C. Hewitt was born January 18, 1920 in Union, MO. She attended William Woods College in Fulton, MO where she received an Associate in Arts degree. She married A. Lee Hewitt in 1944 in St. Louis, MO. They lived in St. Louis and Japan before settling in Lubbock in 1949, where they raised three daughters. She was active in the Lubbock Medical Alliance, the Woman’s Club, P.E.O. Chapter CF and Questers Class at First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband, A. Lee Hewitt, three daughters, Susan and Don Chapman of Austin, Marilee and Jeff Harp of Ft. Worth and Sally and Robert Jones of Lubbock, one brother, James and Carlyss Cardwell of Tampa Florida and 8 grandchildren, Chad, Chris and Chase Jones, Amanda Chapman, Julie, Joanna, Andy and Emily Harp.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Lubbock, P.O. Box 53276, Lubbock, TX 79453

Mrs. Hewitt died Monday March 4, 2002 at the age of 82.

Richard Esquivel

Richard Esquivel was born on September 11, 1929 in Winters, Texas to Antonio and Aurelia Esquivel. He married Herminia Quirino on August 6, 1948 in Clovis, New Mexico. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in Amarillo, Texas on July 10, 1952. He was employed by Milburn Motors for many years, then by Consumers Fuel Co-op for 10 years and retired in 1985 from Poarch Bros. Manufacturing after working there over 14 years. He was a member of La Iglesia de San Jose.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Esmeralda San Miguel and husband J. D. of Hereford, Texas; two brothers, Jessie Esquivel of Heyburn, Idaho and Tony Esquivel of Caldwell, Idaho; a sister, Minerva Valerio of Rupert Idaho; four grandchildren, Vanessa Garcia, Joshua Garcia, J. D. San Miguel and Jacob San Miguel and one great grandchild, Ace Garcia.

Mr. Esquivel died on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the age of 72.

Grace Guy

GRACE M. GUY was the fourth of four daughters born to Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Moore, a pioneer family of Matador in Motley County. She was active for many years in the First Presbyterian Church of Lubbock, serving as a volunteer in many church programs as well as participating in women’s groups and Bible study groups.

Grace was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of Texas. She previously participated in the PEO and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Women’s Department of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and was one of the original volunteers for the Rotary Club of Lubbock’s Cerebral Palsy Center and the Presbyterian Church Food Bank.

She became interested in alcohol-and-drug abuse efforts more than 50 years ago, long before helping the victims of such diseases was in vogue.

She traveled extensively with her husband, visiting Europe on several occasions as well as other parts of the world. They were guests of several presidents in the White House and were well-acquainted with state and national office-holders.

After her husband’s death, she continued to travel extensively. She made trips all over the world with her granddaughter, Victoria Guy of Denton.

She had been a strong supporter of Texas Tech, donating money to several scholarships, including those named for her husband and sons.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles A. Guy, Jr. and a grandson, Charles A. Guy, II.

Survivors include two sons, Dorrance H. Guy and wife, Jane of Aledo and George M. Guy and wife, Leslie of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Victoria Guy, Ray M. Guy, Phyllis Guy Dorazio and Julie Guy Helms; and six great great grandchildren, Niki, Kristin, Jaclynn, Kathlynn, Christina and Katelynn.

Mrs. Guy died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the age of 95.

Janie Nino

Janie Nino was born February 11, 1956 in Hereford, Texas to Alfonso and Irene Limas. She was raised and attended schools in Hereford, Texas. She graduated from Hereford High School in 1974 and from West Texas State University in 1982. She married John Nino on July 24, 1978 in Hereford. She was employed by Hereford Independent School District as a 4th grade teacher at Bluebonnet Intermediate School. Janie was President of Classroom Teachers Association, a member of Campfire Girls (and later served as leader for her daughters), and Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce Desert Storm Coordinator honoring active service men and women from Hereford. She was awarded the Bull Chip Award for all her work on the Desert Storm Project. She was a member of the Town and Country Jubilee and 4th of July Celebration Committee. She served as a Volunteer and Team Captain (her group of teenagers raised the most money one year) for Relay for Life, and a member of American Cancer Society, she served as Breast Awareness Chairperson. She was a member of Mission Bautista Nueva Vida.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Natalie Nino and Penny Nino both of Hereford, Texas; her mother, Irene Limas of Hereford, Texas; three brothers, Alfonso Limas of Dallas, Texas, Louis Limas of Grapevine, Texas and Jimmy of Waco, Texas; four sisters, Virginia Nunez of El Paso, Texas, Martha Limas, Mercedes Perez and Annette Villarreal all of Hereford, Texas.

Janie Nino died on Monday, March 11, 2002 at the age of 46.

Monica Ann Pavlicek

Monica Ann Pavlicek was a Lubbock Native, born here July 19, 1958, and was a graduate of the Lubbock High School for the homebound.

Survivors include her mother, Gladys Pavlicek and one sister, Paula Jean Pavlicek, both of Lubbock.

She died Thursday, March 28, 2002.

Laverne Haught

LaVerne Haught was born May 16, 1922, in Elbert to Henry C. and Fannie Carr. She had been a resident of Shallowater since 1948 moving from Smyer. She graduated from Smyer High School in 1939 and was a homemaker. She married Berlin Haught, August 30, 1941, in Smyer and he preceded her in death March 21, 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shallowater and a charter member of the Builders Sunday School Class.

Survivors include two daughters, Evonne Haught of Shallowater and Trena Holmes of King City, California; her son, Dorrance Haught of Union, Missouri; four grandchildren, Danett Amshler, Suanne Miller, Drew Haught, and Dorcas Haught; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gray of Llano and Mrs. Joyce Pate of Fort Worth.

Mrs. Haught died Sunday, May 19, 2002 at the age of 80.

Clinton Green

Clinton Green was born August 23, 1911 to Ernie and Mary Green in Holland, Tx. He married Ethel Callicutt in Lubbock on November 27, 1936. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was employed as a miller for Economy Mills for 25 years, retiring in 1971. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by a son, Clinton David, Jr. in 1938.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel of Lubbock; a son, Allen of Ft. Worth; a grandson, Marshall of Houston; 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Austin, both of Ft. Worth.

Mr. Green died Wednesday, May 22, 2002.

Dr. Maurice J. Healy

Dr. Maurice J. Healy was born Sept. 24, 1914 in Boone, Iowa to Dr. and Mrs. Maurice A. Healy. He attended Boone Junior College and Iowa State University. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa School of Medicine. He had practiced in Boone with his farther prior to service in the U. S. Army from 1941 - 1945 during World War II. He married Wilfred Dixon in Oakdale, La. August 1, 1941. They moved to Lubbock in 1950 where he practiced until retiring at the age of 65. Following retirement, he practiced at the Veteran’s Administration Clinic in Lubbock until 1998. He was a member of the Lubbock - Crosby - Garza County Medical Society and the American Academy of Ophthamology.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Maurice D. Healy, of Richardson, Texas and Dr. John P. Healy of San Antonio; a brother, Dr. Lynn E. Healy of Allred, Tenn and seven grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Friends of the Library.

He died Monday, May 20, 2002, in Covenant Medical Center.

Sonia L. Douglas

SONIA LOPEZ DOUGLAS was born August 7, 1952 in Weslaco, Texas, to Pedro Daniel and Trinidad Molina Lopez. She moved to Lubbock from Morton in 1962. She had been employed by Texas Tech University, Lubbock M H & M R, and Goodwill Industries before retiring. She was a member of Westmont Christian Church. She married Don H. Douglas in Lubbock May 29, 1995.

Survivors include her husband; five sisters, Sylvia Lopez, of Houston, Maria Lopez, of Whitney, Laura Lopez, of Lubbock, Thelma Lopez, of Ruidoso, N. M. and Nelda Lopez, of Hopkins, South Carolina; three brothers, Pete Lopez, of Lubbock, James Steven Lopez and Milton Lopez, both of Kerrville.

Memorials are suggested to a favorite charity.

Sonia died Friday, May 24, 2002 at the age of 49.

Buddy Barron

Vernon O “Buddy” Barron was born in Harlingen, Texas Nov 6, 1930, and graduated from Temple High School and Texas Tech University (class of 1953) where he lettered in football and was Co-Captain of the 1952 team. He was inducted into the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor and officiated at Southwest Conference football games. He was a distinguished real estate broker and had served as past president of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and Board of City Development, the Lubbock Better Business Bureau, and Lubbock Board of Realtors. He was a member Texas Association of Realtors, the Friends of Reese Air Force Base, and various other civic, organizations on the state and national level. Buddy was a 32nd Degree Mason, Shriner, and served as an Elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

He was married to Jo Benesch in Amarillo, December 27, 1952 and she died in May, 1961. He was then married to D’Ruth Hopping in Lubbock April 13, 1962 and she died June 2, 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Ted Barron, of Mesquite, Mark Barron, of Lubbock and Brett Barron, of Dallas; two daughters, Tamara Cook, of Lubbock and Lea Barron, of Dallas; a brother, Ray Barron, of Albuquerque, N. M. and four grandchildren, Andrea, Joseph, Christopher and Nicholas.

Memorials are suggested to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 4600 48th Street, Lubbock, 79414 or to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1031 Andrews Highway, Suite 201, Midland, Texas 79701.

He died Friday, July 26, 2002, in Lubbock.

Katherine Cardwell

Katherine Cardwell was born in London, Arkansas December 23, 1896 to Jesse and Tinitia May. At the age of six months, she moved with her family to Norman, Okla. In her early years, she moved to a ranch near Lubbock and after two years there, moved into Lubbock for school. There she joined the First United Methodist Church at nine years of age. Five years later, the family moved to Brownfield, where she finished high school and then attended Seth Ward College.

She married J. B. Cardwell in Brownfield in 1916 and lived in Brownfield and Lubbock. He died August 30, 1954. She wrote poetry, was a member of the National Library of Poetry, and has had several books of her poetry published, as well as writing special poems for her friends over the years.

Her only daughter, Bettye Jo Cathey, died December 31, 1989.

Surviving are two granddaughters, Ann Lynch, of Amarillo and Susan Broome, of Lubbock, her son in law, Charles Cathey, of Lubbock; and three great grandsons, Jason and Barry Lynch and Brandon Broome.

Memorials are suggested to the Music Ministry, First United Methodist Church, 1411 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas 79401.

She died Friday, July 26, 2002.

Nancy Myers

Nancy Myers was born December 7, 1937 in North Carolina. She had been a resident of Lubbock since 1980. She was employed with McDougal Properties as a property manager at Country Village Apartments for eleven years. She was an active member of the Lubbock Apartment Association and former Republican Precinct Chair person. She was a Baptist.

She is survived by her family at McDougal Properties.

The McDougal Properties family suggests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd Street, Lubbock, Texas 79423 or Vista Care Hospice 7606 University, Suite3, Lubbock, Texas 79423.

She died Sunday, July 28, 2002 in Lubbock at the age of 64.
