Rosa Elia Ruiz, 76, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 23, 2011.

Rosary will be from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2011 in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Jose Gomez officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Rosa was born on April 7, 1935 in Nava Coahuila, Mexico to Lino and Maria Cantu. She married Jose Ruiz on December 22, 1962 in Nava Coahuila, Mexico. They moved to La Mesa and then to Amarillo in June 1966. She was a housewife and mother. She loved cooking for family and taking care of her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; step-brothers, Elpideo Cantu Garza and Alfonzo Cantu Garza.

Survivors include her husband of forty-eight years, Jose Ruiz, of the home; children, Gustavo Ruiz of Amarillo; Joe Albert Ruiz and wife DeAnn of Corpus Christi, TX; Reyes Ruiz and wife Roberta and Marco Ruiz and wife Cecelia, all of Amarillo, daughter Rose Mary Ruiz Quijada and husband Ralph of Trophy Club, TX and Roy Ruiz and wife Athena of Amarillo; sister, Ramona Villalva and husband Julio of Seminole, TX; seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren..

Patricia Annette Guffey-July 23, 2011

Patricia Annette Guffey, 50, of Amarillo died on Saturday, July 23, 2011.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Oasis Southwest Baptist Church. Burial will be in Llano East. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ms. Guffey was born on January 14, 1961 in Pasadena, TX. She spent 25 years working as a Registered Nurse for NWTH, BSA, various home health agencies, and Texas Department of Aging and Disability. She also spent 32 years raising two children that meant everything and more to her. She was a woman that loved to make people laugh. She will be loved and missed by many, but most of all be remembered as a kind and caring parent, loving friend, and a person that kept her sense of humor throughout her 3+ year battle with Breast Cancer.

She was a member of Oasis Southwest Baptist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Jonathan Ethridge and wife Amber, and Preston May, all of Amarillo; her step-mother Cathy Ethridge of Fairfield, TX; three brothers, Charles Ethridge of Dallas, TX; Tommie Lynn Ethridge of Dew, TX; and David Ethridge of Detroit, MI; granddaughter, Cloie; and beloved dachshund “Hope”.

Memorial gifts can be made to Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo, the ASPCA, or contact the family for contributing to a possible Memorial Scholarship to be given to single mother’s enrolled in the Amarillo College School of Nursing.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Judith “Judy” Dorsey-July 24, 2011

Judith “Judy” Dorsey, 72, of Amarillo died on Sunday, July 24, 2011 after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with Reverend John Watson officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Judy was born was on July 3, 1939 in Clarksville, Texas to Harold and Hermie Voss. Judy is remembered by many for her creative talents in the floral industry as well as her sweet spirit. However, her pride was centered in her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gerald R. Dorsey and a brother, John Voss.

Survivors include her two children, Connie Pfanmiller of Lubbock and Rich Dorsey and wife Kris of Corpus Christi; four grandsons, Drew and Tate Pfanmiller and Parker and Preston Dorsey; a sister, Jannie Bangs and husband Mike; her beloved aunt, Era Burgess.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Hollis Posey-July 22, 2011

Hollis Posey, 43, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 22, 2011.

A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with Mark Murray, pastor of Union Church in Spearman, Texas officiating.

Mr. Posey was born on September 30, 1967 in Amarillo, Texas to Sue and Gary Posey. He owned and operated Quality Painting.

He is survived by his girlfriend, Angia King, of the home; his father, Gary Posey; one son, Driftin Roberts; and two daughters, Journie Smith and Stormi Posey, all of Amarillo; five brothers, Bryan Posey of Magnolia, TX; Gary Posey; Andy Posey; Larry Posey and Jerry Posey; and two sisters, Robin Posey and Rhonda Posey, all of Amarillo.

Don Oltman – July 23, 2011

Don Oltman, 80, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 23, 2011.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with Military Rites by DAV Chapter 26. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Oltman was born on March 3, 1931 in Nelson, Nebraska to Louise and Henry Oltman. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Super Service #1 Station on Amarillo Blvd for 25 years. He began his career as a truck driver and retired in 1993. After retirement, he bought a farm as his hobby.

He married Ada Huguley on May 2, 1953 in Amarillo.

Mr. Oltman was preceded in death by his parents and his son, David.

He is survived by his wife Ada, of the home; two daughters, Carol Wall and husband Pat of San Antonio and Mary Sanders and husband Tony of Amarillo; his grandchildren, Sheri Moore and husband Kevin of San Antonio; Tim Wall of Lubbock; Kirby Sanders of Irving; and Brooke Sanders of Amarillo; his great-grandchildren, Elise Moore and Macey Moore, both of San Antonio; and his sister, Velma Burns of Normal, Illinois.

Sam Bass – July 23, 2011

Sam Bass, 78, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 23, 2011.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church in Dumas, TX with Darrell Wait officiating. Private burial will be in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Bass was born on September 19, 1932 in Beaver County, Oklahoma to Bertha and Marion Bass. He graduated from Felt High Schools and joined the United States Army. After discharging from the Army he married Betty Gove on February 18, 1956 in Clayton, NM. He moved to Dumas in 1957 and worked fro Southwestern Public Service for 38 years until retiring. Betty and Sam traveled the United States. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids. Sam loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. He enjoyed talking to people, nobody was a stranger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter Bass.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; one daughter, Deborah Hammit and husband Gary of Fritch; one son, Jerry Bass and wife Marjorie of San Antonio; three grandsons, Wheeler Hammit and wife Heather of Spearman; Seth Hammit and wife Jacey of Spearman; and Justin Bass of San Antonio; two great-grandchildren, Brayson Hammit and Brancey Hammit, both of Spearman; three brothers, Leroy Bass and wife Mary Jo of Felt, OK; Dale Bass and wife Joann of Albuquerque, NM; and Herb Bass of Farmington; three sisters, Norma Vann of California; Gladys Ottinger of Boise City, OK; and Doris Smith and husband Paul of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a favorite charity. The body will be available for viewing from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Boxwell Brothers in Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.

Ida Ethel Thomas – July 15, 2011

Ida E. Thomas, 96, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 15, 2011.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 25, 2011 at Washington Avenue Christian Church with Jim Shelburne and Ed Modrick officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Thomas was born on July 20, 1914 in Fort Sumner, NM to Jim and Dona Elder.

She married Herbert Thomas on June 18, 1932 in Clovis, NM. They lived in Amarillo from 1940-1950 where they owned the Thomas Bakery. She earned her BA at East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma and her MA at Cal State Fullerton. She was a professor in the Business Department of Fullerton Junior College for about 25 years, retiring in 1983. She and Herb spent their retirement years in Sequim, WA. She returned to Amarillo in 2004 where she lived at Craig Retirement Community and Childers Place. She was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church.

Ida was a State Tennis Champion twice. She won New Mexico Girls High School championship at 16 years of age, and, in 1949 she won the Texas Junior College Women’s championship. She enjoyed golf, bowling, and traveling.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Alice Skinner and husband Forrest of Amarillo; sisters-in-law, Jean Cantwell of Riverside, CA and Joyce Elder of Midland, TX; and granddaughter, Laurie Allen and husband Matt of Austin, TX; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations should be made to the Washington Avenue Christian Church Building Fund, 3800 S. Washington St., Amarillo, TX 79110.

Kenneth Lee Hanchett Hanson – July 19, 2011

Kenneth Lee Hanchett Hanson, 86, of Amarillo died on Tuesday, July 19, 2011.

A memorial gathering will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Kenneth was born on January 18, 1925 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Clark and Hazel Hanchett. He served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician mate from April of 1943 to March of 1946 aboard the USS Tweedy and USS Steele in the Atlantic and Pacific. Kenneth holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kansas City. He married LaFerne Scott on November 15, 1955 in Amarillo. Kenneth owned Citizen Finance Company for fifty-three years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Amarillo Club and Amarillo Dinner Club. He enjoyed golf, dancing and good food.

Survivors include his wife, LaFerne Hanchett Hanson of the home; a son, Michael Hanchett Hanson of New York, NY; a brother, Dale Hanchett of Wichita, Kansas and nieces, nephews and loving family.

Ed Sanders – July 20, 2011

Ed Sanders, 91, of Stratford died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Stratford with Jason Stone officiating. Burial will be in the Stratford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Stratford.

Mr. Sanders was born on April 25, 1920. He served his country in the U.S. Army and he married Elizabeth Ann Brewer in 1949 in McLean, Texas. Mr. Sanders was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stratford and was a longtime policeman.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Jewel and a brother, Howard.

Survivors include his wife, Liz Sanders of the home and a brother, Jerry Sanders of Levelland.

Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Boxwell Brothers at Stratford.

Velma Francis-July 20, 2011

Velma Francis, 73, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Dr. G.A. Roach officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Francis was born on September 15, 1937 in Wheeler, Texas to Neal and Rose Davis. She graduated from Erick High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Francis on July 20, 1956 in Erick, Oklahoma. They moved to Amarillo and raised their children. They became partners in MF Automotive where she worked as the office manager until her retirement. They built their retirement home and she took care of her husband. Mrs. Francis loved sewing, photography and taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Richmond and Preston Davis.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Francis of Amarillo; three sons, Mark Francis and wife Gail, Kim Francis and Lindal Francis and wife Connie, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Teena Kochendarfer and husband Kurt of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Jeff Helton of Amarillo, Chris Helton and wife Natasha of Amarillo, Brandon Francis and wife Shauna of Spring, TX, Chelcee Francis of Amarillo, Jessica Masanotti and husband Nick, Adam Kochendarfer, Alyssa Kochendarfer and Kristina Kochendarfer, all of Phoenix; a brother, Odell Davis and wife Barbara of Amarillo; five sisters, Ruby Brown of Borger, Vineta Weiss and husband Glenn of Shamrock, Bettie Kirkland and husband James of Pampa, Linda Hall of Amarillo. Johnnie McGee and husband Ted of Sanford and eight great grandchildren.

Erma Arleene Wells – August 21, 2011

Erma Arleene Wells, 97, of Amarillo died Sunday, August 21, 2011.

After private services burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Oroville, CA. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Erma was born on January 18, 1914 in Endicott, Nebraska to Ora and Alma Austin. She married Raymond Wells on January 31, 1942 in Nebraska. She was a banker the majority of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Wells in 1985; her parents Ora and Alma Austin, and two brothers, Orlan Austin and Audrey Austin.

Survivors include three nieces, Virginia Arleene Baggerman of Amarillo; Karen Case and husband Michael of Granbury, TX; and Gayle Hensley and husband Marion of Meridian, TX; and twenty-six great to great, great, great nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to be sent to High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo, P.O. Box 31803 or charity of your choice.

Sara Nealy – August 20, 2011

Sara Nealy, 80, of Canadian died Saturday, August 20, 2011.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at The River Ministries, 221 Main, Canadian, Texas. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday in Hansford Cemetery in Spearman, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Nealy was born on February 17, 1931 on a farm outside of Spearman, Texas to Ella Onida and John Workentine Buschman. She had worked for the government in quality assurance. She had a story published in Guidepost in January 1981 with the title of “The Deadly Snow”. It has remained available through the best of Guidepost.

Sara lived a life dedicated to faith in God. Through her faith God answered her prayers, showered her with blessings and provided miracles abundantly. Sara’s testimony will live on through her family and many lives she has touched.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Nealy; one daughter, Nina Cowan; and one son Travis Nealy.

She is survived by her children, Richard Nealy of Queen Creek, AZ; Joella (Nealy) Karber of Balko, OK; Rebecca Nealy of Round Rock, TX; Gordon Nealy of Oregon City, OR; and Jane Nealy, of Carthage, MO; two brothers, Benny Buschman and wife Leola of Stinnett, TX; George Buschman of Canadian, TX; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Allen Burke – August 18, 2011

Allen Burke, 72, of Amarillo died Thursday, August 18, 2011.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011, in Hillside Christian Church Chapel with Jerry Hopkins and Roy Wheeler, ministers, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Allen was born Nov. 29, 1938, in Hopkinsville, KY, to Bartlett Allen Burke, Sr. and Dorothy Gee Burke. After serving in the Army, Allen worked with Allstate Insurance from 1964 to 1999. Allen was an avid golfer, a good friend to all, and was rarely seen without a smile on his face, a kind word and a good joke.

Allen, along with his children, Lori and Steve, married Mary Dell Knorpp, and her children, Karan and Kristi, on Jan. 23, 1976, at Central Church of Christ in Amarillo.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Dell Burke; a son, Steve Burke of Austin; three daughters, Karan Alan (David) of Virginia Beach, VA, Kristi Brown (Steve) of Richland, WA, and Lori Nolen (Scott) of Arlington; two sisters, Blane Voyles (Roy) of Lubbock and Lucy Clevenger of Levelland; and four grandchildren, Jordan Nolen (Adell), Alyssa Nolen, Mia Alan and Shelby Brown.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79106; Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001; or the charity of your choice.
