Elvira Taylor, age 85, of San Antonio, died Saturday, February 15, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Taylor and daughter, Eileen Cheshire. Survivors: 3 daughters, 2 sons and 12 grandchildren

Kenneth Smyers
Born in Dallas, Texas on Aug. 13, 1951

After many hard fought battles, Kenneth Paul Smyers (Ken) lost to the war on cancer on 2/14/2003. A wife, son, mother, siblings, stepchildren and friends have lost a true champion. Ken is survived by his wife Cheri, son, Paul Charles Smyers; mother, Doris Rehkemper Smyers; stepchildren, Russell, Jon Adam, Clayton and Caitlin, “Brother”Don and wife Cindy with Michael and Matt; sister, Sharon and husband MacCravy with Lynn and Jill.
Ken is preceded in death by his father, J. Paul Smyers. Ken was born 8/13/1951 in Dallas, graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1970, graduated with a BS in Ornamental Horticulture from Texas A&M; in 1975.
Ken developed a unique formula for golf course greens and in conjunction with his wife Cheri, began “Envir-O-Ganics” to provide custom blended fertilizer to the golf course industry.

Katy Mayfield of San Antonio, TX, age 44 died Saturday, February 15, 2003. She is survived by her husband David Mayfield of San Antonio, TX; mother, Rose DeFino of Chicago, IL; daughters, Deanna Demers and Delina Demers.

Harry Stanley Green
Born in Fostoria, Ohio on Jan. 15, 1908
Died Feb. 14, 2003 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Col. Harry S. Green (US Army-Ret.) of San Antonio passed away on February 14, 2003. He was born in Fostoria, Ohio January 15, 1908 but spent most of his early life in Detroit, Michigan where his Father was in the pharmacy business. After graduating from Pharmacy College he married Agatha C. Ouellette of Lincoln Park, Michigan in January 1931 and was employed as a Registered Pharmacist for six years prior to entering the Military Service in 1935. Colonel Green was a Veteran of World War II. He commanded on of the first Medical Supply Units to go ashore on Utah Beach during the Invasion of Normandy and which later also participated in the Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns. His unit was awarded the Meritorious Service Plaque for its participation in the Battle of the Bulge. After the War he served two years with the Allied Occupation Forces in Germany and upon his return to the States was assigned to Fort Sam Houston as an Instructor of Logistics at The Medical Field Service School. Following tours of duty in Kansas, California and the Panama Canal Zone he retired in 1957. His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, the French Medal of Honor, the Croix de Guerre with Star and several service medals. He was a member of The American Legion and The Retired Officers Association. He is survived by his wife Agatha; daughter Sharon Rohde; granddaughter Carolyn Thomas all of San Antonio.

Bob Bomgaars
Born in Mankato, Minnesota on Aug. 14, 1937
Died Feb. 14, 2003 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Robert Wayne Bomgaars, of San Antonio, age 65, was a loving husband, father and very generous with his time, he was also known as a peacemaker.
He was an avid fisherman and sportsman; he played semi-pro baseball for the Kansas City Royal Farm League.
For 20 years he was in retail in Iowa where he owned and operated three Bomgaars Family Centers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Violet Miers Bomgaars.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sherri Bomgaars; sons, Jay and John Bomgaars; daughter, Jayne Marie Brayton; daughters-in-law, Teri Bomgaars and Judie Bomgaars; grandchildren, Bailey Bomgaars, Blixa Bomgaars, Ryan Brayton, Jake Bomgaars and Hayden Bomgaars.
Memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Academy Schools Ministry, 1270 N. Loop 1604 E. San Antonio, TX 78232 in Robert Bomgaars name.

Friedericka Swain
Born in Eger, Czechoslovakia on Sep. 30, 1925
Died Feb. 16, 2003 and resided in San Antonio, TX.

Friedericka Swain of San Antonio, TX, age 77 passed away quietly with family present on February 16, 2003.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and friend to all who knew her. This feisty German loved life and her family. She worked full time until her passing and touched many lives along the way. She will be remembered for her zest for life, her passion for hard work and tremendous love of family and friends. We will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her children Lorenz Brandl, Rebecca Flores, Susan Henry and Vicky Hooper; grandchildren, Jennifer, Evan, Shane, Alex, Bryan, Crystal, Holly and Christian; her brothers, Manfred and Hugo Brandl of Germany; her sons-in-law, Rick, Chris and Ron; and her faithful companion Lucky.
Our hearts ache now because we miss her but we take comfort knowing we will see her again.

Adolph Coy
Born in Kenedy, TX on Aug. 6, 1914

Adolph Coy age 88, a beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly, Wednesday, February 12, 2003. He was born August 6, 1914 to Alfonso and Feliz Coy. He served in the US Army during WW II and loved telling stories about his Army experiences. He retired in 1979 from Kelly AFB after 31 years. He will be tremendously missed. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wally Coy. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Della “Nena”; son; daughters, Dolores Smathers, Linda (Stan) Gonzalez, Mary Coy and Rita (Gary) Palatas; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Candelaria Lewis and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lynn Nelson
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Nov. 11, 1951
Died Feb. 14, 2003 and resided in Live Oak, TX.

Lynn Nelson, age 51, of San Antonio, Texas was called home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 14, 2003.
The oldest of three sisters, Lynn Holland was born on November 19th, 1951 to Bill and Jacqueline Holland.
She met Nels (Bud) Nelson in 1975 in San Diego, California, while in the Navigator Ministry. They were married on September 3, 1976.
From 1981 Bud and Lynn served as staff in the Navigator Ministries, taking them such places as Oak Harbour, Washington, The Philippines, and finally San Antonio, Texas in 1990.
She was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, Texas, serving in many different capacities.
Lynn and Bud home-schooled their children. Her love for children was also evident in her work as the nursery director at her church for many years.
All who came in contact with her were touched by her smile and her love for the Lord.
Lynn is survived by her mother, Jacqueline Holland; her devoted husband, Bud; her son, Nels; her son, Seth and his wife Becky; and her daughter, Anna. She is also survived by her sisters, Lee Holland and Lisa Smith.
She will be loved, missed and remembered always.

Carmen Balleza Ehrlich
Born in San Antonio, Texas on Mar. 28, 1918

Carmen Balleza Ehrlich, age 84, of San Antonio, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 12, 2003.
Mrs. Ehrlich was a beloved mother, grandmother, “Memo”, sister and loved by all. She was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church and the Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Ehrlich Jr; daughter, Theresa B. Ehrlich; mother, Sabina G. Balleza and father, Paulino Balleza.
Survivors: sons, Robert B. Ehrlich and wife Yolanda, and Richard B. Ehrlich and wife Sandra, Ashippun, WI; daughters, Rose Mary E. Perez and husband, Daniel, Anna Segura, Chicago, IL, and Maria Velasquez Miller and husband, Jim; brother, Jose Balleza; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers: Richard G. Ehrlich, Daniel E. Perez, Michael A. Perez, Frank A. Perez, Paul M. Ehrlich and Paul Melvin Ehrlich.
