HARLIE H. VICK

Harlie H. Vick departed this life on Friday, July 23, 2004 at the age of 84 years.

He was born on may 15, 1920 in Bear Creek, Arkansas to Elmer Conway Vick and Arizona Harness Vick. He married Valrie Miller on September 5, 1944 in green County, Arkansas. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a longtime Floydada resident where he worked as an elevator operator at Producers Co-op for 29 1/2 years until he retired in 1993 at the age of 73. He moved to Plainview in 2002 and became a resident of Prairie House Living Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Norman Don Vick and two brothers, Arlen Vick and Harvey Vick.

He is survived by his wife, Valrie Vick of Plainview; three sons, Lloyd Edmond Vick of Floydada, Doyle Vick and his wife, Cindy, of Garland and Kevin Vick of Arleta, California; three daughters, Linda Mallow and husband George, of Plainview, Janet Vick  Jones and husband Robert of Mildenhall, England and Kathy Vick Sanford and husband Mark of Princeton; one brother, Leonard McKinley Vick and wife, Dorothy, of Bergman, Arkansas; two sisters, Gwendell Mitchell and husband, Charles of South Gate, Kentucky and Della Ann  Jackson of Arleta, California; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 25, 2004 from 5 -7 p.m.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2004 at City park Church of Christ in Floydada with Kenneth Free officiating. Burial was in Floyd County Memorials Park under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

The family suggests memorials to  White River Youth Camp, payable to City Park Church of Christ, 505 S. 5th, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

E. GEORGE CADDEL

A memorial service will be held for Elmer George Caddel, 79, of Waxahachie on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the Caddel residence to allow out-of-state family members and friends to attend. Mr. Caddel had willed his body to research at Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

He died Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Baylor Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

He was born June 18, 1925, in Crosby County and lived his entire life in the Lubbock area before moving to Ellis County in 1972. He had been a member of the Church of Christ for over fifty years and attended the I-35 Church of Christ which he helped to establish in 1973. He was self-employed since 1952 and at his death, owned Econo Equipment and Brokerage, Inc.

Mr. Caddel attended Lubbock High School, Missouri State University, and  Texas Tech University. At Missouri State, he was a member of the first V-12 unit ever formed. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and left the Naval Reserves in 1951 with the rank of Lieutenant JG. He was married to Wilma Jean Freeman November 28, 1946, in Lubbock.

He was a member of the Ellis County Genealogy Association, The Lee Cemetery Association, The Ellis County Museum, and the Sons of the Republic of  Texas (SRT).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Callie (Derrick) Caddel. He is survived by his wife, of Waxahachie; two children, Sherry Gilson and husband Guy of Waxahachie, and Judge Jerry Caddel and wife LeeAnn of Odessa; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lois  Jones of Floydada.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Children's Medical Hospital Endocrinology Center, MDS International Foundation, Inc. in Annapolis, MD, National Peripheral Neuropathy Conference, Aloha, Oregon, or a charity of your choice.

GLENN COLLIS

Memorial services for Glenn Collis, 78, of Lockney will be at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the residence of H.G. Graham and Karen Sue Akin at 301 NW 2nd St. in Lockney with Reverend James Pritchett, officiating.

Mr. Collis departed this life on Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Lockney Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on August 31, 1925 in Hill County to the late Lloyd and Ora Collis. He was a lifelong resident of Lockney and was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a Merchant Marine having served during WWII.

Those left to mourn his passing include one son, Billy Collis of Plainview; two daughters, Candace Randolph of Phoenix, AZ and Karen Sue Akin of Lockney; one brother, Gene Collis of Dallas; one sister Francis Hartley of San Angelo; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

LORENA W. DUNAVANT

Services for Lorena Williamson Dunavant, 91, a long time Floydada resident were held Thursday, August 26, 2004 at the West Side Church of Christ in Floydada. Paul Bates officiated and Dennis Dees assisted. Burial was in Floyd County Memorial Park. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mrs. Dunavant passed away on August 23, 2004 at the Floydada Rehabilitation and Care Center in Floydada.

She was born January 12, 1913, in Red River County to Ernest and Della Williamson. She and her family moved to Floyd County in 1916. She attended schools at Lakeview, Floydada High, and Lipperts Business College. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ since the age of 14. She married Grady Dunavant June 7, 1931. They had been married 63 years when he passed away on September 24, 1994.

She was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Dale Dunavant in 1999.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Milton and Linda Dunavant of Ft. Worth and Truman and Mildred Dunavant of Bayfield, Colorado; two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and John Redding of Floydada and Marjorie and True Kirk of Durango, Colorado; one daughter-in-law, Bobbie Hall of Little Rock, Arkansas; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to West Side Church of Christ c/o Ronnie Smith, Rt. 2, Box 4, Floydada, TX 79235 or to Floydada EMS, Box 373, Floydada, TX 79235.

GERTRUDE SISSNEY

Services for Mrs. Gertrude Sissney, 78, of Tahoka and formerly Lockney, will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2004 in the Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney with Mr. Ron Fant officiating. Interment will follow in the Lockney Cemetery, under the direction of  White Funeral Home of Tahoka.

She passed away August 13, 2004 in Tahoka.

Mrs. Sissney was born on July 18, 1926 in Marysville to the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis W. and Josephine K. Young Galloway. She married P.R. Sissney on October 7, 1943. Mrs. Sissney moved to Tahoka from Lockney in 1970. She worked as a L.V.N. Mrs. Sissney was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by one daughter Edith Fern Sissney on July 28, 1967, three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Ray Sissney of Elgin and David Glenn Sissney of Austin; one daughter, Janet Lynn Sissney of Austin; one sister Goldie Galloway of Leonard; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 26 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home in Lockney.

ARCHIE E. HUCKABEE

Graveside services for Archie E. Huckabee, 78, of Lubbock were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004 in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park. Officiating was the Reverend Andy Wood.

Interment and cremation was under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

Mr. Huckabee died Sunday, August 22, 2004.

He was born September 13, 1925 in Floydada and moved to Lubbock in 1945. He married Gloria Mandarich on October 24, 1945 in Canyon.

He graduated from Floydada High School and attended Rutgers State University in New Jersey. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran of World War II. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church. He retired from the banking industry.

Survivors include a son, Mark Huckabee of Lubbock; a daughter, Linda Huckabee of Houston; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

DORA ETHEL MILLER

Graveside services for Dora Ethel Alkire Miller, 81, of Floydada were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in Floyd County Memorial Park. Reverend Vance Mitchell officiated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mrs. Miller passed away Monday, August 30, 2004 at Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney.

She was born on August 9, 1923 in Carnige,  Oklahoma to C.L. and Ethel Jane Scott Alkire. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1940 and worked at Amarillo Air Base making parachutes during World War II.

She married C. M. Miller on May 18, 1946 in Canyon. They made their first home in Plainview where he farmed. They moved to Floyd County in 1957 and lived in the Barwise Community. In 1963 they moved to Floydada. Besides helping her husband farm, Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and worked at Caprock Hospital in Floydada and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Florence Juanita Alkire.

Survivors include three children, June McGaugh and her husband, Jimmy of Floydada, Jerry Miller and wife, Amanda of Floydada and Jack Miller and his wife, Carla of Cotton Center; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Senior Citizens, 301 E. Georgia, Floydada,  Texas 79235; Hospice Hands of West  Texas, P.O. Box 1118, Lockney,  Texas 79241 or to Boy Scout Troop #357, 108 S. Main, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

LOUIS ARREDONDO

Rosary services for Louis Arredondo, 79, of Floydada was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at San Jose Catholic Church in Lockney. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. today, Thursday, September 9, 2004 at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Jim McCartney, celebrant.

Burial was in the Lockney Cemetery under the directions of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mr. Arredondo departed this life on Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Floydada Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on February 14, 1925 in Campbellton,  Texas to the late Silbestre and Estella Arredondo. He moved to Floydada from Cedar Hill in 2002. He was a member of the San Jose Catholic Church in Lockney.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include three brothers, Alfredo, Julian and Sisto Arredondo, all of Floydada.

MARY E. HAWS

Funeral services for Mary E. Haws, 71, of Sumner,  Texas were held Monday October 4, 2004 at Bright-Holland Funeral Home. Rev. Tim Young officiated.

Mrs. Haws died October 1, 2004, while at Paris Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Haws was born to John Robert and Willie Homsley Richards June 1, 1933 in Parker County. The Richards were former Lockney residents.

She had one of the first open heart surgeries in the country in Dallas, and then had another open-heart surgery in 1965. Following the graduation of her children from school she went to work at Hiawatha High School in Hiawatha, Kansas, where she was the baker for 15 years before retiring in 1995. In June of 1996 she and her husband moved to Sumner. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended Lifeline Worship in Center, Reno,  Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters: Syble Wright, Leon Richards, Floyd Richards, Bobbie Kellar, Richard Richards and Iwanda Richards.

Survivors include her husband, Verdell B. Haws whom she married on Dec. 8, 1955, children, Arvel Keith Haws and wife Beverly of Mesquite, Teresa Denise Clements and husband Bill of Hiawatha, KS. and Albert Dale Haws and wife Mary E. of Hiawatha; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Frank Richards, Thurman Richards, J.D. Richards and Johnny Richards.

JO V BIGHAM

Funeral services for Jo V Bigham, 82, of Floydada were held Saturday, November 27, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Floydada. Burial was in Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mrs. Bigham died November 25, 2004 at the Floydada Rehab and Care Center.

She was born January 22, 1922 in Floydada to the late Clarence and Cleo Andrews Goins. She graduated from Muleshoe High School in 1939 and attended Mary Hardin Baylor University. She married H. Allen Bigham November 17, 1945 at Camp Lejune, NC. He preceded her September 18, 1993. They moved to Floydada from Milford, Utah in January 1947. She worked as an office manager at the Federal Land Bank for 33 years until she retired. She was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. She like doing crafts, painting and reading. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, BWC and the Friendship Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church and was active in the 1934 Women's Study Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Stanton of Elephant Butte, NM; two granddaughters, Sherre Green and husband Roby of Floydada and Terri Frazier of Lubbock and three great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Caleb and Ashlyn.

The family suggests memorials to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
