Mrs. Wells
Syble Wagner Wells, 83, of Hamilton died Dec. 18, 2003 at Hamilton. Funeral services were held at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel on Dec. 21 with Clint Crosby and Bill Wagner officiating. Burial followed in the Cottage Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Wells was born June 14, 1920 at Aspermont, the daughter of Soloman Embrey Wagner and Nannie Elizabeth Wright Wagner.
She was married to Roger Woodrow Wells at Hamilton on Aug. 7, 1972. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1983.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by six sisters, Viola Worrell, Cordia White, Jewell White, Faye Watkins, Lona B. McCarty and Darlene Eisen and three brothers Oscar Wagner, Jim Wagner and Bill Wagner.
Survivors include a sister Lois Huffman of Hamilton and by many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Tom McNair, Jason Pierce, Trent Pierce, Richard Stout, Eric Young and Curtis Coble.

Mrs. Cavett
Geraldine Cavett, 72, of Slaton, died Dec. 11, 2003 after an illness. Funeral services were held Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Downer, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Cavett was born Nov. 8, 1931 in Red River County. She moved to the Southland area and attended Southland schools. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and the church’s choir. She was a caregiver for children’s daycare before she retired in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruffus and Lillian Moore and one brother, Little Robert.
Survivors include four sons, Morris L. of Cedar Hill, Tommy M. of Cleburne, Donald L. and Glen F., both of Hamilton; three daughters, Brenda Walsh and Judy Calhoun, both of Hamilton and Kimberly Schoor of Shallowater; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Bobby Moore of Mineola, Kenneth Moore of Clarksville, Tenn., R.J. Moore of Midlothian and Billy Moore of Temple; seven sisters, Wanza Holler of Bakersfield, Calif., Maurine Luttrell of Lubbock; Betty Roland of Slaton, Edith Burrow of Irving, Elizabeth Ginn of Petehachapi, Calif; C.J. Moore of Slaton and Patricia of Paris.

Mr. Hodnett
Alex Jefferson Hodnett, 90, of Temple died March 24, 2004 at his home. Graveside funeral services were held March 26 in the Lanham Cemetery.
He was born in Jonesboro on Oct. 29, 1914. He graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1932. He served in the United States Army from Jan. 29, 1942 until Oct. 6, 1945. He was employed by Texaco Oil Company in the Marine Department for 38 years. He was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church and a member of the Lake Belton VFW Post 10377.
He was married to Jewel L. Sellers of Jonesboro on June 28, 1946 at Gatesville.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel Hodnett; a son, Michael Hodnett, both of Temple; a daughter, Judy Hodnett of Manhattan, NY and a brother Bobby Joe Hodnett of Fort Worth.

Mrs. Townsend
Addie Lee (Mosley) Townsend, 87, died March 23, 2004 at Hamilton General Hospital in Hamilton. Funeral services were held March 25 at Pleasanton First Baptist Church with Pastor Jim H. Townsend Jr. officiating. Burial was at the Brite Cemetery in Leming.
She was born March 2, 1917 in Pleasanton. Mrs. Townsend was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and a Christian who loved to use her gift of hospitality by welcoming others into her home. She was a member of Stonewall Baptist Church in San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mark and Marelda Moseley, her husband, Jim H. Townsend Sr. and a daughter, Evelyn Riley.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois Ormand of Hamilton and Bobbie Broadway of San Antonio; two sons, Patror Jim H. Townsend Jr. and wife Virginia of Hamilton; Phillip Townsend and wife Sharaine of Adkins; a sister, Thelma Peyton and husband Jim of Devine; a brother, J.B. Moseley and wife Willie Lee of Hallettsville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Ronnie and Donnie Bedwell, Mike and Randy Townsend, Gene Riley and J.C. Broadway, all grandsons of the deceased.

John Emmett Sellers, 86, of Altus, Okla. died June 8 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital after and extended illness. Funeral services were held June 10 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Mr. Sellers’ brother-in-law, Rev. Clyde Berkley, assisted with funeral services in Altus and conducted graveside services in Hamilton. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton on June 11.
Mr. Sellers was born Jan. 26, 1918 in Jonesboro, the son of Joel Neel Sellers and Ella Lee (Bankston) Sellers. He was married to Wanda Dean Berkley on June 6, 1947 at Robert Lee.
He was a World War II Army Veteran. He served in the European Theater in the D-Day Invasion and Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded and was given a medical discharge at McClosky Hospital in Temple on Oct. 4, 1945.
Mr. Sellers lived around Hamilton and had “The Wagon Wheel Café” there after his discharge. He moved his family to Altus, Okla. In 1959 where he owned and operated a furniture upholstery shop for many years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus, a lifetime member of the DAV and a past member of the Optimist Club.
Mr. Sellers was a hard-working family man and a good Christian who was looking forward to Heaven.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joel Neel Sellers; his mother, Ella Lee Sellers Neal; his step-father, Boyd Neal; two brothers, Lee Neal Sellers and Jerry Audine Neal; a step-brother, William Neal and a nephew, Gary Sellers.
Survivors include his wife of the home in Altus; two daughters and a son-in-law, Connie Parks of Edmond, Okla. and Gayle and Bill Meyer of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Leonard Sellers and wife Judy of Abilene; a sister, Estelle Michael of Wylie; four grandchildren, Heather Marie Parks Seabourn and husband Don, Ashley Michelle Parks, Steven Higgs and wife Dorothy and Ryan Higgs and wife Miranda; a great-grandchild, Jacob “Jake” Higgs; a brother-in-law, Clyde Berkley and wife Ann, sister-in-law Christine Garcia and husband Jess, sister-in-law Dorotha Everitt and husband Jim as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carl E. Cox, 99, of DeLeon, died June 13 at his residence. Funeral services were held June 18 at 2 p.m. at Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Pottsville Cemetery in Pottsville with John Cox officiating.
He was born Aug. 16, 1904 in Energy, the son of Thomas Fulton and Kate Hanes Cox.
He was married to Alice McPherson on April 6, 1929 in Gustine.
Mr. Cox was retired from Morrison Plumbing Supply in Odessa and worked as a barber in Pottsville for many years. He also lived in DeLeon, Godley and Odessa. He was a member of the Pottsville Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 25, 1999; a son, Charles Cox; two brothers, Eargle Cox and Thomas Cox and two sisters, Blanche West and Delma Streety.

Mr. Smitherman
Charles Estes Smitherman, 88, died June 10, 2004 at Oak Grove Nursing Home. Funeral services were held June 12 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home chapel.
He was born in Pottsville and raised in Hamilton. He lived in Port Arthur for 70 years.
Mr. Smitherman proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW II. He retired from Texaco where he worked in the laboratory for 42 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Smitherman, a son, Danny Smitherman and a daughter-in-law, Mamie Smitherman.
Survivors include his son David Smitherman of Corpus Christi; two grandchildren, Bryan Smitherman of Tempe, AZ, Charlotte Wong and her husband Chris of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Christian Wong and Tatiana Wong, both of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Mr. Roach
Rick D. Roach, 49, died July 26 in Wichita Falls. Funeral services were held July 30 at University United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls with additional funeral services at Pettit Baptist Church in Gustine with Rev. Ronnie Calcote officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in Gustine.
He was born July 22, 1955 in Hico, the son of V. Leroy and Peggy (Jones) Roach. He was married to Marcene Luker on June 25, 2003 at Pettit Baptist Church in Gustine.
He was a graduate of Tarleton State University and a member of the Alumni Association. He was also a member of the Masons Texas Cattle Feeders Association and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association.
Mr. Roach was involved in banking, farming, ranching, commercial and residential properties and oil and gas production since 1977 and was involved in the development of First State Bank, Graham’s Possum Kingdom Lake Branch. He served as the CEO of the Production Credit Association and Federal Land Bank Association.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Mark Roach and his grandparents, Jake and Gertie Jones.
Survivors include his wife; parents; sons, Justin and Taylor Roach and stepchildren, Angela Gibbons and Kari and Luke Fanning and his brother, Craig Perkins.

Mrs. Hooper
Ruth Taylor Hooper died at her home in the early morning hours of July 30 due to gallbladder cancer. At the request of the deceased, her remains were cremated and there was no formal memorial service.
Born in Abilene on March 4, 1937, she graduated from high school and attended Lee College in Baytown. She had lived in Hamilton County since
1995.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, C. M. Hooper Jr.; four children, Michele Loftin, of Spring; Melanie Davis of Jacksonville Beach,
Florida; Curtis of The Woodlands and Christopher of Houston; grandchildren, Asa
Loftin, Katelyn Doucet, Jade and Lia Hooper, and Merrick Davis; a son-in-law, Mike Davis and daughter-in-law Jennifer Hooper.
Her Sister-in-law, Edna Mulkey and her husband, Delroy, reside in Hamilton County. Two of her great nephews, Marcus and Joel Mulkey, are graduates of Hamilton High School.
Active in Native American affairs, she will be named Honored Elder of the 2004 Four Winds Intertribal Society Pow Wow in Killeen on September 18 and 19. She was also held in high esteem within the San Antonio Intertribal Gourd Society and the Coastal Bend Tribal Society.
She participated in various Pow Wow organizations and was recognized as a mother figure to whom children went for advice, comfort, stories, and dance instruction.
She was a Girl Scout leader for more than 20 years and was a Life Member of that
organization.
Mr. Berry
Andy Levi Berry, 82, died in Hamilton July 31, 2004. Funeral services were August 2 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gilbert Donald and Rev. Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Burial followed in the Gentry Mill Cemetery.
Mr. Berry was born March 4, 1922 in the Fairy community of Hamilton County, the son of Charles Malhon Berry and Elizabeth Martha Tinney Berry.
He served his country in World War II in battles and campaigns in Sicily, Normandy, Rhineland and Central Europe as a squad leader. During this time he earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster; Good Conduct Medal; European/African /Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He was discharged July 2, 1945.
He was married to Bertie Martin on Dec. 21, 1946 in Coleman.
Mr. Berry was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was outgoing, loved people and was loved by all those that knew him. He retired after working as an auto parts salesman for the Evans Company in Stephenville for many years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers David, J.T. and Charles Berry.
Survivors include his wife Bertie B. Berry of Hamilton; two daughters and their husbands; Glinda and Mike Herrin of Hamilton and Debbie and Gaylon Fleming of DeLeon; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one brother J.B. (Bunk) Berry of Hamilton and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Loyd Rush, Timothy Herrin, Ray Kelly, Kenneth Wilson, Brandon Burrows, Danny Berry, Kenny Burrows and Rick Berry.
Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Wagner, Raymond Roberts and Karry Garmon.
