Jenaro “Jerry” Peña, 69, died on March 30. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and retired in 1985 from the Portland Cement Company where he worked as a cement miller for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Juana, their children —Ventura Peña, Carlos Peña and Estrella McCall — and granddaughter Kristina Peña. Burial was April 4 at Memory Gardens of the Valley.

Maj. Edwin R. Phillips, 94, passed away April 3. Following retirement at Fort Bliss, he taught 10 years at Radford School. He is survived by a son Edwin, a grandson Ted, a granddaughter Sarah, and a great- granddaughter, Josie. Burial was April 6 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Mario C. Ponce, 56, passed away April 2. He was an El Paso resident for 42 years. He is survived by his mother Maria Ponce, two children — Mario Cesar Ponce and Marcia Denise Ponce. Burial was April 5 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Robert R. Reifsnyder, 64, passed away March 29. He was a longtime El Paso resident and worked for AT&T for 35 years. He is survived by his children —Greg Reifsnyder, Roger Reifsnyder, Robert Koch and Joyce Brown. Burial was April 3 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Robert C. Rhodes, 44, died April 4. He is survived by his mother Consuelo Rhodes, his wife Olga, and children — Dennis, Juan (Johnny), Michael and Amber Marie Rhodes. Mass was April 9 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Helen L. Riley, 79, passed away April 3. She had been a resident of El Paso since 1957. She is survived by her children — Trixie Bruce Mann, Margaret Ann Riley, Kevin Riley and Jack Smith — and a grandson Richard Mann. Graveside services were April 6 at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.

Minnie Aletha Mott Robinson, 85, passed away March 31. She was a resident of El Paso for more than 60 years and is survived by more family and friends than can be numbered or mentioned by name. She was a loving mother, granny, friend, aunt, cousin, great- grandmother and matriarch to over five surviving generations. Interment was April 6 at Restlawn Cemetery.

Martin Ruedas Jr., 26, passed away March 31. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a tribal member of the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo. He is survived by his parents Martin and Guadalupe Ruedas. Interment was April 4 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

David Sanchez, 77, passed away March 31. He was a lifelong resident of Anthony, N.M. and was retired from El Paso Electric Co. He is survived by his wife Concha L. Sanchez, his children — Richard Sanchez and Rachel Tapia — five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial was April 5 at St. Anthony Cemetery.

Anna V. Serrano, 83, passed away April 3. The lifelong El Paso resident is survived by her children —Roberto Serrano, Teodoro Serrano Jr., Alonso Serrano, Jose Serrano, Juan Serrano, Ricardo Serrano Ruben Serrano, Yolanda Lujan, Martha Martinez and Irma Salas — 30 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Burial was April 6 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Alma Hannah Lacy Tevis, 95, passed away on March 7. She was a librarian at Ysleta High School, who retired after 20 years in 1977. She is survived by Norma T. Matthews and Bill Matthews, Reeves E. Tevis, Sue T. Cuningham, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A memorial service was held in Dallas on March 10.

Brigadier General Harvey C. Tschirgi, United States Marine Corp (Ret.), 92, passed away April 1. He was a resident of El Paso for 11 years and was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1932. He is survived by his wife Jeanne S. Tschirgi, their daughters — Sheila Tadasse and Susan T. King — four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery.

Atala C. Vasquez, 63, passed away March 28. She was a longtime resident of El Paso and was the owner and operator of La Colonial Tortilleria. She is survived by her children — Santiago C. Vasquez Jr., Javier Vasquez, Carlos Vasquez, Alicia C. Vasquez and Diana Vasquez — seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment was April 2 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Lorenzo F. Aldaco, 77, passed away March 23. He was retired from Southwest Portland Cement Co. after 33 years of service. He is survived by his wife Maria Aldaco, children — Manuel Aldaco and Irma Logan — seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Burial was March 28 at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery.

Elisa O. “Chita” Barragan, 90, passed away March 26. She formerly owned Nacho’s Restaurant with her husband Ignacio “Nacho” Barragan, who preceded her death. She is survived by her daughter Eva Parker, grandchildren — Renee Mazza and Neftali “Richard” Ruelas — and two great-grandchildren — Roman Mazza and Meaghan Ruelas. A memorial service took place March 29 at San Rafael’s Parish Church.

Daniel D. Barry, 79, passed away on March 25. He operated the Chevron Station at Fred Wilson and Dyer for many years. He is survived by his wife Celestial Mayes Barry, children — Daniel Barry Jr., William Barry, Michael Barry and Judy Putnicki — 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service took place March 29 at Western Hills United Methodist Church.

Burial was March 22 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
