Dane George, 53, passed away Feb. 4. He was devoted first and foremost to his family, was a lifelong runner and an avid Longhorn fan. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan George, daughters Stacy George and Kylie George, mother Patsy George, grandmother Lucille Hunt, and siblings – Bryan, Randy and Susan. He was a partner in the El Paso office of Kemp Smith, P.C., from 1974 to 1998, and most recently was Of Counsel to Haynes and Boone in its Austin office, where he practiced in the Corporate-Securities section of the firm. Funeral services were Feb. 8 at the Westlake Presbyterian Church in Austin. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Jared Dunten Foundation at 828 West 6th Street, Austin, TX 78703.

Javier G. Pedroza Sr., 79, passed away Feb. 4. He was the head tailor at Union Fashion Men’s Store and retired in 1987. He is survived by his children – Javier P. Pedroza Jr., Cristobal Pedroza, Sergio Pedroza Sr., Hector P. Pedroza Sr., Oscar R. Pedroza, Daniel M. Pedroza and Patricia A. Palomino – 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Burial was Feb. 7 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

S. Phillip Miller, 61, passed away Feb. 2. He was employed by the Newspaper Printing Corporation as an apprentice pressman. He worked his way up to pressroom foreman, and then to superintendent of operations for the night shift. After retirement, he attended El Paso Community College for specialized training in HVAC Maintenance and began his own business, Phil’s Fixit Shop.” He specialized in plumbing, electrical and appliance repair, as well as heating and cooling systems maintenance. He remained active in his business until shortly before his death. He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Miller, sister Peggy Schillinger and husband Bill, nephew Kenneth W. Schillinger and wife Patricia, great-nephew Kevin Schillinger, stepdaughters Tammy Jacobs and Barbara Castallone, grandchildren Mason Jacobs and Diana Castallone, cousin Carolyn De Lisser and husband Chrys, and their children and grandchildren. Memorial services took place Feb. 9 at Martin Funeral Home West. Interment followed at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery.

Carlotta Villalobos, 87, passed away Feb. 5. She is survived by sons Leo Villalobos and Luis Villalobos, grandchildren Mark Villalobos, Matthew Villalobos, Michelle Villalobos, Joshua Villalobos and Isaac Villalobos, sister Aurora Garcia, nieces Corina Woody, Minnie Peña and nephew Fernando Garcia Jr. Burial was Feb. 8 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Msgt. Levi Milews III, U.S. Army (Ret.), 68, passed away Jan. 31. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. He is survived by his wife Josephine Strong Miles, daughters Natalie Sabrena Reveles and Raagan Alicia Miles and one grandchild. Graveside service was Feb. 8 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.

Sandi Madrid, 37, passed away Feb. 5. She was a graduate of Riverside High School, El Paso Community College and the Disney Institute. She was a travel consultant and had worked at Airway Travel and Buck Rogers. She was employed by America West Airlines, where she received numerous awards including Outstanding Performance in Leadership and more recently, the Gold Star Award for Outstanding Performance. She is survived by her mother Janey Madrid and brother Michael Madrid. Funeral Mass was Feb. 9 at St. Patrick Cathedral entombment followed at Mount Carmel Mausoleum. Memorial donations can be made to the El Paso Cancer Treatment Center, 1901 Grandview Avenue, El Paso, TX 79902.

Martha Alicia Muñoz, 44, passed away Feb. 6. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso, a member of the Catholic Church and a real estate broker. She is survived by her husband, Nick Muñoz, children – Christopher Nick Muñoz, Erik Shane Muñoz, Melissa Nicole Muñoz, Karla Marie Muñoz and Ivanee Gabrielle Muñoz – parents Rudy and Maria Hernandez – and siblings Rudy Hernandez, Hector Hernandez, Rosa Ortiz, Socorro Hernandez and Luz Gurrola. Funeral Mass was Feb. 9 at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Maria L. Estrada, 75, passed away Feb. 11. Friends of her grandchildren began calling her “Granny,” and through the years, the name stuck. She was affectionately known as “Granny” by all who loved her – a testament to her loving nature and her willingness to invite people into her extended family, whether her relative or not.
She was a lifelong resident of Fabens and was preceded in death by her husband Andres Estrada Sr., and children Ernesto Estrada and Maria Inez Estrada.
She is survived by her children – Alicia Gonzalez, Andres Estrada Jr., Berta Meunier, Tomas Estrada, Gloria Estrada, Norma Estrada-Vejil, and David Estrada — 11 grandchildren – Bonnie, Yvonne, James, Donna, Michel, Lisa, Diane, Vanessa, Andrew, Vicky and Justin — two great-grandchildren Bryanna and Seth; daughters-in-law Carmen and Irma Estrada; sons-in-law Joe Gonzalez and Fred Vejil; brother Fred Martinez and sister Delia De la Hay.
Recitation of the rosary was Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Fabens. Funeral Mass was Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Father Mena officiating. Interment followed at the Fabens Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tomas Estrada, Andres Estrada, James Estrada, David Estrada, Ernie Batson, Fred Vejil, Bonnie Galvan and Shirley Acosta. A heartfelt thank you goes to Dr. Panagiotis Valilis, whose kind and expert medical care during the past five years was always aimed at optimizing the quality of his “miracle patient’s” life.
Thanks also goes to Dr. Jeanette Tan and all the compassionate, professional staff of Integrated Health Services who saw that her final days were spent in as much comfort and dignity as possible. A special thanks goes to Teresa Rodriguez of Outreach, who helped care for “Granny” during her final days at home, and to the staff at Quantum Homecare.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to cancer and osteoperosis research charities.

Maxine Elizabeth Crouch, 92, passed away Feb. 8. She was a resident of El Paso since 1953 and was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church. She was a retired salesperson for Francis Bounds Dress Shop, was an avid bridge player and was among the best female golfers in El Paso in the 1950s. She was an artist and a sports enthusiast. She is survived by her children – Harry Crouch and wife Marie and Donald Crouch and Carolyn Bryant and husband Tom – three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral service was Feb. 11 at St. Luke’s Methodist Church and interment followed at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Virginia “Jean” L. Borgemenke, 69, passed away Feb. 6. She was a longtime resident of El Paso and was a member of the Catholic Church. She was a longtime teacher and most recently taught for the El Paso Independent School District. She is survived by her son Arthur Borgemenke and wife Gloria, grandson Edward and brother Joseph La Pille. N. Stevens St., El Paso, Texas 79930. Interment was Feb. 11 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Jay Warren Rhodes, 76, passed away Dec. 6. He was a resident of El Paso since 1976. He retired from Guynes Printing and served as a Merchant Marine during World War II. He is survived by his wife Ginna Rhodes, brother Robert Rhodes and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services took place at Hillcrest Funeral Home Doniphan Chapel. He was cremated and his interment was private.

Herman Lisle “Dutch” Schieman passed away Sunday, Feb. 24. A resident of El Paso for 47 years, he worked as a licensed professional engineer and retired from the El Paso Independent School District as Director of Facilities. He had previously served as a gunners mate in the U.S. Navy on a destroyer during WWII. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Paul Lisle Schieman. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their children: Pam Baker, Terri Treharne, Judy Amstater, Todd Schieman of California and ten grandchildren. Interment took place at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of choice.

Dorothy I. Kisco passed away Saturday, Feb. 23. She is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son and his wife, R.J. and Shirley Arden; grandchildren Irene Trujillo and Matthew and Mark Arden; great grandchildren Aaron M., David E. and Zelina Trujillo and Nicole Arden, her sister Kathryn Olson, niece Judy Cech and nephew Wayne Olson.

Albertina Morfin passed away on Saturday, Feb. 23. She was retired from the Federal Reserve Bank after 30 years of service, and was a member of the Catholic church. She is survived by her daughters, Leticia Romero and Grace Ruiz; her grandchildren, Larry Romero, Paul Romero, Rebecca Escandon, Karoly Bieganowski; great grandson Troy Romero; nephews Rogelio Gonzalez and Fr. John Morfin; and her sister, Rosa M. Gonzalez. Interment took place Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Memory Gardens of Valley Cemetery.

Lucy Olivares Granados passed away Saturday, Feb. 23. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso, and was employed as an inspector for Farah Manufacturing. She is survived by her husband, Jesus C. Granados, her daughter Rosemary Lorraine Granados, her father Pedro Olivares, brothers Lorenzo B. Olivares and pedro Olivares, Jr., and sister Cecilia O. Falcon. Interment took place in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Nicolas Villa passed away Saturday, Feb. 23. He was a longtime resident of El Paso and an active member of the Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Connie Villa. He is survived by his wife, Maria T. Villa, his daughters: Cecy Ramirez, Leonor Huerta, Virginia Figueroa, Reyna Lehker, Maria Eytcheson, Dolores Rodarte, Margarita Torres, and Marta Perez, and sons: Federico Villa, Nicolas Antonio Villa, Benjamin Villa and Cesareo Rodriguez. He also is survived by 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Interment took place at Jardines Eternos Cemetery in Cd. Juarez.

Zoe Anne Neal Montgomery passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26. She enjoyed a lengthy career in music, teaching piano lessons in El Paso for four decades. She also taught at Austin High School, Radford School for Girls and Hillside Elementary School in the Deaf Education Dept. She served as resident of the Girl Scout Council, on the Board of the Children’s Ballet Workshop, president of the Junior Welfare Association and the board of the School of Practical Nursing at St. Vincent Hospital in El Paso. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Willard Montgomery. She is survived by her daughters: J. Anne Montgomery, Jane Montgomery Sinclair and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Television Ministry of Trinity-First Methodist Church.

John Nathan Lane Lorentzen, 88, Lt. Col., U.S. Air Force Reserve (Ret.), passed away Monday, Feb. 25. A native of El Paso, he attended Vilas School and graduated from El Paso High Schol. He graduated from Virginia military institute in 1935. He was a commissioned second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served during World War II and the Korean War. After the Korean War, he returned to El Paso and took over his father’s merchandise brokerage business. After selling the business in the ’60s, he worked for the El Paso Independent School District and later as a public accountant. Lorentzen was also a 33 degree mason, member of El Maida Shrine Temple, Texas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and an active member of the El Paso Art Association. He was preceded in death by his father Julius Willim Lorentzen, his mother Ada Vivian Lane Lorentzen and his sister Julia Lane Lorentzen Fink. He is survived by his wife Eleanor Lilian Medler Lorentzen, his brother Wayne Lane Lorentzen, his son Col. Edward Julius Lorentzen, his daugher Anne Elizabeth Lorentzen, his dauther-in-law Betty Lang Lorentzen and three grandchildren: Amy Irene, John Calvin and Emily Christine. Interment was at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.

Emanuel S. “Manny” Zimmerman passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002. He was a tech sergent in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, and flew 66 missions over Germany and France as a radio operator and waist gunner on a B-26 medium bomber. He was a master plumber, founded Casa Plumbing Co. in 1972 and remained an active partner in the company with his sons Mark Zimmerman and Lee Zimmerman. He was a longtime Mason in the Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite. Zimmerman is preceded in death by his twin brother Harold Zimmerman. He is survived by his wife, Irene Levy Zimmerman; sister Ellen Krasn; daughter Jeryl Marcus and son-in-law David Marcus; sons Jay, Mark and Lee Zimmerman; and grandchildren Jessica Zimmerman, Joseph Marcus, Amanda Marcus, Shelby Zimmeran and Jake Zimmerman. Graveside services were held Friday, March 1, at Temple Mt. Sinai cemetery .

Jessie Lou “Jay” Guthrie passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002. She taught in the Snyder public schools for 3 years and lived in El Paso for the past 10 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.F. “Tobe” Guthrie and by four brothers and sisters. She is survived by her two sons, Joe Guthrie of El Paso and Larry Guthrie of Burlingame, Calif.; her two grandsons Christopher Guthrie of Baltimore, Md., and David Guthrie of Sheffield, England; and her sister “Dudy” Gordon of Sweetwater, Tex.

Wilma C. Deal passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, in Oklahoma City. She and her husband, Vincent L. Deal, were former owners of Deal Motor Company. She is preceded in death by her husband, brother Ralph Haas and her sister Janice Reed. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Lewandoski of Oklahoma City; son William T. Deal of Ruidoso; and grandchildren Carrie Lewandoski and Jennifer Deal Hill.

Clara Ruth Loya passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002. A longtime resident of El Paso, she was a Daughter of Texas, past president of American Legion Post #58, and was a volunteer for many local charities in the El Paso area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete R. Loya, and is survived by her son Richard and daughter-in-law Peggy Loya;grandchildren Richard Loya, Joseph Loya and Maggie Guay; and great grandchildren Justin Loya and Dylan Guay. Graveside service was held Saturday, March 2, at Restlawn Memorial Park cemetery .

Silviano Cordova passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26., 2002. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and served aboard the USS Tangier during WWII, and received two bronze stars for service in the Pacific and two bronze stars for the Philippine Liberation. He retired from the El Paso National Bank where he worked in maintenance. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Cordova; and brothers Rudolph Cordova, Pete Cordova and Gilbert Cordova. He is survived by his daughters Jane Ferrell and Anna Mata and her husband Filiberto Mata; his sons, John Paul Cordova and James Cordova and wife Lupe Cordova; sister Guadalupe de la Torre; brother Charles Cordova; grandchildren Gilbert Carreon and his wife Lindsey, Michael Mata, Krystal Mata, Robert John Ferrell, Amanda Ferrell, James Cordova, Jr., and John Adrian Cordova; and great grandson Anthony Mason Mata. Interment was at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. Rosemarie W. Carrington passed away Wednesday, Feb 27, 2002. She was an accountant, and worked for the civil service since 1972. She was a member of Oro Court #20. She is survived by her parents, Johan and Margarett Hutter; husband Theoga Carrington, Jr.; her son and daughter-in-law Oliver Louis and Lisa Carrington; brother Alfred Ziegler; and sisters Marie Siebert and Edeltraud Sawyer. Interment was at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Carrington’s name to Candlelighters of the El Paso Area, Children’s Cancer Center, 1900 N. Oregon Street in El Paso.

Joseph M. Solari, Col. US Army Ret., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002. He was a decorated US Army Artillery Officer, serving his country in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded a Battlefield Commission, the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Soldier’s Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Solari; stepchildren Susan LaBarge, Janice Young and husband Gary Young, Allan Lemley and wife Irene Savanyo; five grandchildren: Jolene LaBarge, Christopher LaBarge, Valerie LaBarge, Jennifer Young and Nicolas Lemley. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Carmela Solari and nephew Paul Solari. Interment was at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimers’ Association, NM Chap., 8100 Mountain Road N.E., Albuquerque, NM, 87110.

Ray Edelman passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002. He served his country in the Army Medical Corps and was with the armed forces in WWII, stationed in the South Pacific. He was an officer with Gunning Casteel Drug Stores, where he franchised cosmetics and was a fine goods buyer. At the time of his death, he was a director of Santa Teresa Travel Agency. He also served for 12 years as recorder and executive secretary at El Maida Shrine Temple. He was a member of Fraternity Masonic Lodge #1111 for 50 years, and a member of the El Paso Scottish Rite Bodies. Among his numerous civic appointments, he served on the board of the Rodeo and Livestock committee. He is survived by his spouse, Mildred Edelman, his daughter Gayle Vokes and her husband Bill Vokes; his grandchildren Denise Alden, Dustin Presser and Kimberly Presser; and his great grandchildren Jonathan Alden, Megan Alden and Shea Mangold.
