Ira Neely

Bartonville - Ira "I.T." Neely, 84, of Bartonville, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.

He was born June 25, 1916, in Denton, to Ben and Salli Neely.

Mr. Neely was a retired farmer and rancher.

He was a member of Argyle Baptist Church.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton. The Rev. John Stout will officiate. Burial will follow in the Old Alton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, May 22, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jim Butler, Joe Powell, Jack Durham, John Pockrus, Rusty Goodwin and Kelly Stoy.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Neely of Bartonville.

Charlie Rogers

Sanger - Charlie Rogers, 90, of Sanger, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

Coker Funeral Home of Sanger.

Rowena Sealy

Austin - Rowena Annette Sealy, 81, of Austin, died Saturday, May 19, at her residence.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Cottage Hill Cemetery in Celina. The Rev. Cliff Lester will officiate.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Cantrell Funeral Home in Celina.

She was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Celina, to Joseph C. and Dottie LeGleen Crosswhite O'Dell. After completing two years at Texas Woman's University, she moved to Houston to work for Brown Ship Building, then on to New York during World War II. After raising her family, she moved to Austin in 1975 and worked in the business community for many years. The last five years she worked at a local craft ship, "Heartstring."

Survivors include three daughters, Diane LeGleen Sealy Tubb of Austin, Margaret Lee Sealy Grothaus of Kansas City, Mo., and Mary Kathleen Sealy Cooke of Austin; six brothers, Ralph O'Dell of Waco, Clayton O'Dell of Lubbock, Harold O'Dell of Gainesville, Kenneth O'Dell of Rowlett, Wallace White of Santa Fee, N.M., and Bob White of Colorado; two sisters, Freda Gheen of Wimberly and Avanell Witherspoon of Denton; and five grandchildren.

Margaret P. Kelly

Margaret P. Kelly, 91, of Denton, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Denton Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Oct. 31, 1909, in Carrollton, Texas, to John and Margaret Powell. She was married to W.A. "Bill" Kelly on Sept. 2, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1980.

She was a member of the Bell Avenue Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with the Rev. Buddy Owens officiating. Burial followed in Belew Cemetery in Aubrey.

Survivors include one daughter, Lynell Land of Denton; one son, Howard Kelly of Denton; and six grandchildren, Linda Clark of Denton, Debra Cunningham of Lewisville, Teresa Daniel of Denton, Dianne Boliver of Denton, Julie Coward of Denton and Lisa Wisnie of London, England.

Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Michael Clark, Josh Clark, Tom Calvert, Tyler Calvert, Rick Cunningham, Scott Cunningham, Mark Cunningham and Colby Boliver.

Don Card

Valley View - Don Card, 75, of Valley View, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Taunton, Mass.

Mr. Card was the justice of the peace in Valley View for 14 years. He retired from General Dynamics after 11 years and worked for Texas Instruments for 26 years.

He was a member of Christ the Shepard Church in Sanger.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 24, in New Hope Cemetery in Mount Springs. Dewey Lang will officiate. Clement-Keel Funeral Home in Gainesville is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Jerry Card of Valley View; one daughter, Frances Mask of Celina; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Charley Rogers

Sanger - Charley William Rogers, 90, of Sanger, died Saturday, May 21, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1911, in Alma, Ark.

Mr. Rogers was a self-employed carpenter.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sanger.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the First Baptist Church in Sanger. Dr. E.L. McNeal will officiate. Burial will be in Sanger Cemetery.

His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Reva Rogers of Sanger; four daughters, Betty Lee Rice of Sanger, Kathryn Marie Grizzle of Fontana, Calif., JoAnn Sears of Duncan, Okla., and Twylia Diann Brown of Sanger; one son, Carroll R. Rogers of Rialto, Calif.; three sisters, Vera Beard of El Dorado, Kan., Nina Mynhier of Henrietta, Okla., and Syble Johnson of Wetumka, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Willie Jones

Willie James Jones, 59, of Denton, formerly of Dallas, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was Baptist.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Dallas. Community Funeral Home of Waxahachie is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one brother, Henry J. Jones of Denton; and one sister, Kay Frances of Dallas.

Joyce B. Parrish

Joyce Buttrill Parrish, born November 19, 1950, passed away Friday, May 21, 2001, after a three year battle with ovarian cancer. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her husband and three children, and in the company of many close friends.

Joyce was born and raised in Denton, Texas, where she graduated from Denton High School in 1969. She received a bachelor's of art in Latin from the University of North Texas and a master's of art in Latin and a master's of art in Linguistics from the University of Illinois in 1976. She was married for almost 28 years to her high school sweetheart.

Joyce taught Latin, English, and French at Whitney Young Magnet High School in Chicago for five years. Since her first daughter's birth and the family's move to Houston in 1981, Joyce devoted her time to her family and community. Joyce moved with her family to The Woodlands in 1985, and since then served on PTA/PTO boards at many schools in The Woodlands. She was also active in many other school activities, including the CISD's Curriculum Advisory Committee, Highstepper Mothers' Club, McCullough Band Boosters, and the Comtemporary Issues Committee at the John Cooper School.

A member of The Woodlands United Methodist Church since 1985, Joyce was an active participant in the church's growth during the past 16 years. She served on the worship committee, the fellowship committee, the pastor-parish relations committee, the children's ministries task force, and the United Methodist Women's Board. For several years she was chairman of the children's ministries council, the governing body for Children of The Woodlands preschool. She taught vacation bible school and was a member of Craft Circle. Joyce also served on several building committees, and one of her proudest accomplishments was serving as chairman of the interiors committee during the construction of the current church sanctuary.

For several years Joyce was active in the Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum. Joyce was rush information chairman and president of the Montgomery County Chi Omega Alumnae. Joyce was a member of the National Charity League for nine years, where she held board positions, and was president of The Woodlands chapter of NCL from 1997 to 1998. She spent many happy hours with her two daughters serving this organization. She will be missed greatly by her many friends in The Woodlands.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur D. Buttrill and Ruth Faught Buttrill, and by her two sisters, Linda Buttrill Little and Jane Buttrill Rollin. She is survived by her husband, Norman W. Parrish; daughters, Emily S. Parrish and Rachel S. Parrish; son, Nathan E. Parrish; brother, Mike L. Buttrill and his wife Julie and their sons Miles and Grant; brother-in-law, Skip Rollin and his daughter Sarah; brother-in-law, Paul Little; and uncle, Don Faught.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, 3901 S. Panther Creek Dr., The Woodlands.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home, 18000 I-45 South, Conroe.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to The Woodland United Methodist Church, 3901 S. Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands, 77381.

Peggy Cooper

Tioga - Peggy Cooper, 63, of Tioga died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Wilson N Jones Medical Center in Sherman.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Tioga United Methodist Church. Dee Morton will officiate. Burial will be in Tioga Cemetery. Huff Funeral Home of Whitesboro is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Tioga Museum and Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 278, Tioga, Texas 76271, or to the Tioga United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 205, Tioga, Texas 76271.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon Cooper of Kingston, Okla.; four children, Elizabeth Ann Henderson of Mineral Wells, Michael Cooper of Gordonville, Terry Cooper of Gunter and Paula Friedel Byler of Fort Worth; three brothers, Joe Charles Grissaffi of Dallas, Lewis Grissaffi of San Diego, Calif., and Eddie Grissaffi of Mesquite; four sisters, Joyce Wolff of Dallas, Pat Boggs of Dallas, Sue Culpepper of Pinson, Ala., and Betty Clark of Albuquerque, N.M.; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest Crystele

Ernest Crystele, 62, of Denton died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home.

Ben Wolfe

Lake Kiowa - Ben Wolfe, 71, of Lake Kiowa, formerly of Little Elm, died Saturday, April 28, 2001.

He was born Oct. 5, 1929.

Mr. Wolfe was the owner of Wolfe Plumbing.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at 122 N. Kiowa Drive in Lake Kiowa.

Memorials may be made to Santa Rosa Adult Day Care, 5750 Berryhill Road, Milton, Fla. 32570, or the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75231.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Shelby Wolfe; two sons, Greg Wolfe of Hickory Creek and Jeff Wolfe of Picayune, Miss.; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Charley Rogers

Charley William Rogers, 90, of Sanger, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born May 19, 1911, in Alma, Ark.

Mr. Rogers was a self-employed carpenter.

Ernest Crystle

Ernest Flemming Crystle, 62, of Denton died Friday, May 25, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

He was born March 18, 1939, in Chester, Pa.

Mr. Crystle was a professor at the University of North Texas.

The service will be held at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Stephen Dixon officiating.

He is survived by his brother, James Crystle, of Orlando, Fla.

Ruth Edrington

Ruth Evelyn Edrington, 83, of Denton died Saturday, May 26, 2001.

She was born July 29, 1917, in Big Sandy to Albert Ellwood Williamson and Ada Melissa McWhorter Williamson. On Dec. 10, 1933, she married Ernest Claude Edrington in Kirkland. He is deceased.

The graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Blue Bonnett Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. The Rev. Sam Rowlett will officiate.

The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 27, for visitation.

Survivors include two daughters, LaJuana Hartsock of Pilot Point, Barbara Faulk of Crescent City, Calif.; one son, Robert W. Edrington of Little Elm; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. One son, Alton Ray Edrington, is deceased.

Shayla Varner

Shayla Varner, 20, of Denton died Wednesday, May 23, 2001.

She was born Dec. 18, 1980, in Denton.

Ms. Varner was a graduate of Denton High School and student at Texas Woman's University.

The service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. M.R. Chew officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Survivors include her father, Joe H. Varner Jr. of Denton; mother and stepfather, Diane Roberts Williams and Sammie Williams, both of Denton; one brother, Chad Varner of Denton; grandparents, Etha Varner and Annie Mae Manuel, both of Denton; and one stepgrandmother, Lula Varner of Celina.
