Leta Roberson
Mrs. Linwood J. (Leta B.) Roberson, Sr., 97, of Denton died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in Dallas.
Mrs. Roberson was born Feb. 27, 1904, in Edom to John and Maria (Dike) Brewer. She married Linwood J. Roberson, Sr. in Denton in 1928.
She received her bachelor's degree in education from the University of North Texas and her master's degree in home economics from Texas Woman's University.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Senior Citizens' Knitting Club, African Violet Society, the Shakespeare Club and the Grandmothers' Club.
Mrs. Roberson was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 75 years where she was a member of the Bible Study Group.
She was the first woman in Texas to receive formal florist training. She was formerly co-owner and operator with her husband of Linwood Roberson Florist in Denton. They also owned the Economy Grocery Store.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 11, in the Cole chapel of the First United Methodist Church. The reverends Frederick Durham and Gary Mueller will officiate. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Edom Cemetery in Edom.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 10, at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Joe Prevratil, Joe Alford, Bill Enlow, Don Kerr, Kenneth Wilson, and John Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, Jo Ann and Victor Smiedt of Addison; one son, the Rev. Linwood J. and Eula Bell Roberson of Denton; grandchildren, Kathy and Greg Wright, Norene Bynes, Holly and Allan Rosenbaum, Marti and Mike Franks; and great-grandchildren, Melanie, Nicole, John, David, and Andrew Rosenbaum, Katie, Kendall and Garrett Franks, and Wager and Tyler Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood J. Roberson.
Danny Davis
St. Cloud., Minn. - Danny Gene Davis, 49, of St. Cloud, Minn., formerly of Denton, died Saturday, June 2, 2001, at his home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1952, in Denton to George Eugene and Viola Blanche Davis. He married Jackie Louise White in Denton on April 10, 1985.
Mr. Davis was an auto mechanic.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Cross Roads, Texas. The Rev. Larry Colwick will officiate.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today, June 8, at Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home in Denton.
Survivors include his wife of St. Cloud, Minn.; one son, Danny Gene Davis Jr. of Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters, Jennifer Davis and Carrie Box, both of Minneapolis; one sister, Debra Morres, of Duncan, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
Billy Lindsey
Billy Joe Lindsey, 53, of Denton died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Denton.
He was born April 6, 1948, in Sherman to Billy Joe and Katy May (Russell) Lindsey Sr.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, in the chapel of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in McKinney. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery in Westminster.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, June 8, at the funeral home.
Survivors include one brother, Kenneth Lindsey of Rosamond; and two sisters, Randie Lindsey and Carolyn Bridges, both of Anna.

Dallas - William K. Powell, 94, of Dallas, formerly of Denton, died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.

Jewell Hoffman, 80, of Denton died Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at Denton Regional Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Vernon, to Thomas T. and Nettie Belew.
A service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, at Cooper Creek Baptist Church. Charles Ashby officiated. Burial was in Cooper Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tim Belew, Mike Belew, W.H. Rainey, David Belew, Mike Belew, Robert Hunt Jr. and Bob Meadow.
Survivors include one sister, Ellie Rainey of Denton; one brother, Virgle Belew of Denton; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Verna Beazley
Verna Evans Beazley, 90, of Denton died Tuesday, June 5, at her home.
She was born July 5, 1910, in Village, Ark., to Dillard O. and Zetella Ragsdale Evans. She moved to Houston in 1933 to attend Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated April 1, 1935, as a registered nurse, and was then employed by Jefferson Davis Hospital as head nurse of the emergency room. On Dec. 26, 1935, she married Marion Beazley in Houston. He died Oct. 8, 1961.
She was a member of Singing Oaks Church of Christ.
A service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 8, in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. George Butterfield will officiate. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 7, for visitation.
Memorials may be made to the Singing Oaks Church of Christ Library Fund.
Survivors include one daughter, Marcia Chitwood of Houston; three sons, Charles Beazley of Denton, Barry Beazley of Richardson, and Jerold Beazley of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. One son, Glen Beazley, died April 6, 1967.
James Blackwelder
Pilot Point - James A. Blackwelder, 56, of Pilot Point died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Careage Place Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1944, in Tioga to Verona Frances Heitzman Blackwelder and John Clem Blackwelder.
Mr. Blackwelder was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Pilot Point. Monsignor Charles B. King will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Kubala, Bob Kubala, Jerry Kubala, Roger Blackwelder, Leon Blackwelder and Mike Carney.
The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the chapel of Huff/Slay Funeral Home in Pilot Point.

Sanger - Michael Jimmie Hunter, 31, of Sanger died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
He was born Aug. 27, 1969, in Fall River, Mass., to Jimmie Ray and Elizabeth Isabell Hunter. On June 5, 1987, he married his wife, Melinda Kay, in Denton.
Mr. Hunter was employed as an electrician by JBI Company.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 7, for visitation.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 8, in the chapel of Schmitz-Floyd-Andersen Funeral Home of Denton. Deacon Popo Gonzalez will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
Survivors include his wife of Sanger; his mother of Sanger; one daughter, Sara Elizabeth Hunter of Sanger; two sons, Michael Jimmie Hunter II and Morgan Keith Hunter, both of Sanger; one sister, Pamela Hall of Sanger; and one brother, Jimmie Ray Hunter II of Assonet, Mass.
Louretta Jones
Justin - Louretta Jones, 83, of Justin died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Longmeadow Care Center.
She was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Haslet, to Sam and Wilda Barnard. On June 9, 1938, she married Nolie Jones in Marietta, Okla. He is deceased.
Mrs. Jones was a retired seamstress from Russell/Newman company.
She was Methodist.
A service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Justin Methodist Church. The Rev. Jon Eckstein will officiate. Burial will follow in Justin Community Cemetery. DeBerry Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Nell Brown of Commerce; two sons, Tommy Jones of Justin and Henry Jones of Saginaw; one sister, Joyce Sanders of Carrollton; two brothers, Jay Barnard of Richardson and Ufford Barnard of Mesquite; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Hal Norgaard
Harlingen - Dr. Hal V. Norgaard, 93, a longtime Denton physician, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, in Harlingen.
Dr. Norgaard, a major in the Army Medical Corps during WWII, came to Denton in 1947 to practice medicine with Dr. George Hinkle. The two doctors had served their internships together in the Detroit Receiving Hospital. A heart specialist, Dr. Norgaard served as president of the Denton County Heart Association in 1961. He retired in 1974.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Richard Norgaard of Harlingen; one daughter, Alsa Boynton of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His wife, Helen, is deceased.
JoAnn Stephenson
Lewisville - JoAnn Stephenson, 68, of Lewisville died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Baylor Hospital in Garland.
She was born March 22, 1933, in Melissa, to James Allen and Rosa A. Smith Medcalf. On Nov. 18, 1950, she married Charles E. Stephenson in McKinney. He died Oct. 16, 1989.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 8, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. The Rev. Kenneth Wells will officiate. Interment will follow in Flower Mound Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 7, at the funeral home.
Survivors include two daughters, Norma Rhodes of Argyle and Penny Harp of Lewisville; two sons, Kenneth Stephenson of Plano and David Stephenson of Austin; three sisters, Ruth Goodson of Seagoville, June Ramsey of McKinney and Mildred Walls of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. One daughter, Lori Stephenson, and two grandchildren, are deceased.
