Milton McDurmitt

Milton Clarence McDurmitt, 102, of Denton died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Denton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born Sept. 30, 1898, in Garland to John Asa and Adella (Boyles) McDurmitt. He was married to Pauline Miller in April of 1933 in Eden.

Mr. McDurmitt was a retired grocery store operator for Miller Grocery.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in Roselawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Russ Tieken officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Mr. McDurmitt is survived by his wife Pauline McDurmitt of Denton and extended family and friends. Mac's desires are that everyone should not be sad, look around at God's wonder and be happy.

Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Xantippe Stafford

Xantippe "Tip" Stafford, 86, of Denton went home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 26, 2001. She had fallen, was unconscious and died quickly and peacefully.

Xantippe was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Frost to Jewel Langston Ramsey and Grover Cleveland Ramsey. A high school valedictorian, she passed up her scholarship to support the family and assist in the higher education of her three brothers. She married Vernon Cecil Stafford on May 30, 1937.

She was a Baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton, a former member of the First Baptist Church of Midland, and of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock. She served as executive secretary to the president of Texas Tech University for many years.

Xantippe lived her Christian faith in countless ways. Her life was a witness to her faith. She treated others as she liked to be treated. Always extremely kind and considerate of others, she made friends wherever she lived. Xantippe was a peacemaker. She never had a critical comment about others because she believed and lived the saying, "if you cannot say something nice, do not say anything."

Xantippe, "Tip," is survived by her sons, Dr. Richard R. Stafford of Midland, Texas, Charles R. Stafford of Denton, and Master Sgt. George Kyle Stafford of New York, N.Y.; 9 grandchildren, Shay Stafford Castro, Christina Stafford, William Stafford, Sharon Stafford, David Stafford, Les Freeman, Xantippe Stafford, Richard Stafford II and Margaret Stafford; three great-grandchildren, Chloe and Christopher Wiggins and Christian Castro.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in the chapel of the First Baptist Church chapel in Denton, and at the First Baptist Church of Lubbock on Monday, July 30. Burial will be in Lubbock.

The family will be at Goen-Hudgens Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, July 27, for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Denton building fund, Denton County Children's Advocacy Center in Lewisville, Texas, or the church or charity of choice.

Claxton Rayzor

N. Claxton Rayzor, 76, of Houston, Texas, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2001, at Memorial Herman Hospital.

He was born in Denton, Texas, on Dec. 24, 1924, to J. Fred Rayzor and Lucile (Edmonds) Rayzor. He was a graduate of Denton High School. He attended Rice University and received his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering June 7, 1948, taking time out to serve in the Naval Air Corps. Mr. Rayzor was president of Sudermans & Young Towing Co. Inc. He was a member of the Marine Exchange of the West Gulf and elected the first chairman. He was a longtime active member in the Propeller Club Port of Houston. He was also a member and elder at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, Lakeside Country Club, The Houston Club and The Rice Associates.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, J. Fred Rayzor Jr. and Richard Lee Rayzor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Gretchen Timmis Rayzor; sister, Lucile Rayzor Hutchinson and husband, Allen of North Haven, Conn.; cousins, June R. Elliott and husband, Dr. Don Elliott of Bethesda, Mo., and Evelyn R. Nienhuis and husband, Dr. Les Nienhuis of Tulsa, Okla.; special friend Dr. E.B. Singleton and wife, Margaret Ann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2001, in the chapel of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston. Dr. Gary Ferbet will be officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at the International Organization of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Denton, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Geo. A. Peterson, R.A. Baile, J.W. Baxter, A.K. Lacy, J.H. Kepner and E.D. Monteith.

Honorary pallbearers will be A.L. Peterson, J.W. Smith, Fred J. Strowbridge, W.D. Minnick, E.M. Peacock and J.E. Hott.

Jackie Bennett

Bridgeport - Jackie "Bluegrass" Don Bennett, 61, of Bridgeport died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Trinity Care Center in Bridgeport.

He was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Duncan, Okla. He married Noley Fay Smith on May 24, 1996, in Bridgeport.

Mr. Bennett was a truck driver for Bob Gentry Sand and Gravel Company.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, in Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Doyle Slimp will officiate. Coker Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of Bridgeport; three sons, Eric Bennett of Boyd, Cavin Riggs of Rhome and David Riggs of Paradise; three daughters, Rhonda Gober of Paradise, Annette Meadows of Boyd and Christy North of Decatur; one brother, Bill Bennett of Chico; two sisters, Janice Roland of Lake Brownwood and Jo Norvell of Decatur; eight grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Richard Ferguson

Tioga - Richard Ferguson, 91, of Tioga died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Gainesville Convalescent Center in Gainesville.

He was born Feb. 23, 1910, in Pikesville, Tenn., to John Thomas and Rosa Lee Keedy Ferguson. On Oct. 30, 1926, he married Dollie Emma Wilson in Gunter. She died May 29, 1987.

Mr. Ferguson was a carpenter.

He was a member of Pilot Grove Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, in Tioga Cemetery. Huff/Slay Funeral Home of Pilot Point is in charge of arrangements.

Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Tioga Snap Center, P.O. Box 48, Tioga, Texas 76271.

Survivors include four sons, Richard Ferguson of Collinsville, Billy Ray Ferguson of Sherman, Jim Bob Ferguson of Whitesboro and Franklin Ferguson of Austin; five daughters, Betty J. Smith, Charlene Ferguson and Darlene Ferguson, all of Tioga, Dorothy Lynn Martin of Collinsville and Nancy Anne Jones of Pilot Point; 18 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, Rosa Augusta Ferguson, two grandchildren, three sisters, and one brother.

Lois Jones

Haskell - Lois Jones, 80, of Haskell died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at a local hospital.

She was born July 16, 1921, in Pilot Point. She was the widow of Morris Hayden Jones. She had been a resident of Haskell since 1955, working for Slumber J. Well Service and also the Texas Department of Public Safety, Drivers License Division. She also owned and operated Lois' Fabric Shop in Haskell. She was a member of various clubs and civic groups.

She was a member of the First Christian Church.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at the First Christian Church in Haskell. Dusty Garison will officiate. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Pilot Point Community Cemetery. Slay Memorial Funeral Center of Aubrey is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Haskell or the First Christian Church of Pilot Point.

Survivors include two brothers, Jim Brown of Lafayette, La., and Bob Brown of Pilot Point.

Kimberly Moghaddam

Aubrey - Kimberly Elizabeth Moghaddam, 38, of Aubrey died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Plano.

She was born Nov. 16, 1962, in Denton, to James O. and Carol M. (Ford) Pannell. She attended Denton public schools and received her licensed vocational nursing training from Cooke County Community College.

She attended the Church on the Go.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, in Cole Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Denton. The Rev. William C. Crouch and the Rev. Gary Mueller will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Valley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tom Hall, Bill Hall, Bill Graham, Alan Pittman, Bruce Test and Don Trimble.

The family will be at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home of Denton from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, July 30, for visitation.

Survivors include two daughters, Brittany Michelle Hoyt and Hillary Nicole Hoyt, both of Carrollton; one son, Nathan Andrew Hoyt of Carrollton; her parents of Aubrey; one brother, Byron Pannell of Denton; and her grandmother, Mrs. J.O. "Wilma" Pannell of Denton.

Vera Patterson

Sanger - Vera Mae Patterson, 92, of Sanger, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Denton Community Hospital.

Franklin Rosenburg

Decatur - Franklin William "Pete" Rosenburg, 98, of Decatur died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Sunny Hills Nursing Center in Decatur.

He was born April 29, 1903, in Decatur. On April 8, 1930, he married Sadie Ruth Rowe, in Decatur. She is deceased.

Mr. Rosenburg was a retired farmer.

He was a member of Eagle Drive Baptist Church in Decatur.

A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, in Bethel Cemetery, Decatur. Don Spain will officiate, assisted by Tim Wertz. Coker Funeral Home of Decatur is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Snider, Blake Sandford, Sonny Loyd, Wendell Cauthen, Dennis Kerr and James Wood.

The family will be at Coker Funeral Home in Decatur from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, July 30, for visitation.

He is survived by one sister-in-law, Bernice Rosenburg of Decatur. One son, Evans Rosenburg, and one daughter, Ruth Rosenburg, are deceased.

Decatur - Eula M. Sanford, 90, of Decatur died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Wise Regional Health System in Decatur.

Clarice E. Pauls

Clarice Edla Johnson Pauls, 76, of Denton, was called to Heaven Friday, July 27, 2001. She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Austin, Texas, to Knute W. and Evelyn R. (Anderson) Johnson. After completing high school in Hutto, Texas, in 1941, Clarice attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman's University) where she received a bachelor's of science degree in institutional management in 1945. She was a registered dietician and during her career, worked at the San Marcos Boys Academy and at Texas Woman's University. She was married to Edward "Ed" W. Pauls of Paige, Texas, in Round Rock, Texas, on July 11, 1959. Mr. and Mrs. Pauls lived and worked their entire married life in Denton. In 1992, Mrs. Pauls retired from the University of North Texas where she had worked as the food service manager at the West Dorm. She was a member of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Flower Mound.

Clarice Pauls was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Texas Woman's University Alumni Association, the Forum Department of the Women's Shakespeare Club, the American Home Economics Association, the Texas Home Economics Association, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.

Mrs. Pauls was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Edward of Denton; brother, Quinton Johnson and his wife Martha of Farmers Branch; and daughters, Sarah Pauls Houdek and her husband David of Lake Dallas, Debbie Pauls Coomes Reinhard and her husband David of Lewisville, and Becky Pauls Jones and her husband Robert of Denton. Clarice, "MaMa," is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Matthew and John Houdek of Lake Dallas, Zachary Coomes, Rachel, Ellen, Jack, Sam and Abigail Reinhard of Lewisville, and Allison and Daniel Jones of Denton.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at the Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 1401 Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound, Texas. Pastor Dennis Schurter, chaplain of the Denton State School, will be officiating. Graveside services will be preceded by a brief service to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, in Palm Valley Lutheran Church, 2500 Palm Valley, Round Rock, Texas 78644, with Pastor Elroy Haverlah officiating, followed by interment in the Palm Valley Cemetery also in Round Rock. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001.

Catherine Locklin

Catherine M. Locklin, 96, of Denton died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Denton.

She was born March 11, 1905, in Bell, to Henry Person and Mary L. Hall.

She was a member of St. Emmanuel Baptist Church.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church in Denton. The Rev. C.D. Lockhart will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will be at Peoples Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, for visitation.

Survivors include three sons, George Locklin and Leon Locklin, both of Denton, and Freddie B. Locklin of Dallas; two daughters, Mary Chatman of Dallas and Patricia Moore of Atlanta, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
