Nov. 18, 1912 — April 29, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Alice I. Fleming, 87, of Austin are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mrs. Fleming died Saturday in Austin.

She was born in the Knobbs Community and was a former resident of Rockdale and McDade, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Fleming.
Survivors include five nieces and a nephew.

Grace Frances Copeland Lyons Key
May 6, 1914 — April 30, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Grace Frances Copeland Lyons Key, 85, of Bedias are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedias Baptist Church in Bedias.

The Rev. Jerald Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Key died Sunday at her home.

She was born in Lufkin, Texas, and was formerly of Houston.

She was a member of the Bedias Baptist Church and a former member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Houston.

She was preceded in death by her husband,
Edward Seth Key Sr.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard “Dick” and Barbara Lyons of Houston and Edward S. Jr. and Gaylynn Key of Willis, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Jeanine and Bill Jones of Somerville; a brother, Rev. Clyde N. Copeland of Bedias; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen L. Key
Dec. 1, 1908 — April 30, 2000

CALDWELL — Services for Helen L. Key, 91, of Caldwell are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The Rev. Lawrence Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Black Jack Cemetery.

Mrs. Key died Sunday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was born in Miles, Texas, and was retired from the Caldwell school district, where she taught in elementary and middle schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Caldwell Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Key.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Bruce and Emmcq Key of Devine, Texas, and Kenneth and Linda Key of Caldwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce M. and Bernice Jennings of Sheridan, Wyo.; a sister, Ruth Allday of Odessa, Texas; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Vallie Peschel
March 31, 1915 — April 29, 2000

ROSEBUD, Texas — Services for Vallie Peschel, 85, of Rosebud are set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Rosebud.

The Rev. Alberic Lipinski will officiate. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Burlington, Texas.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.
Mrs. Peschel died Saturday in Crowley, Texas.

She was born in Bell County and lived most of her life in the Burlington and Rosebud area. She worked as a seamstress and cook, and was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Peschel.
Survivors include two daughters, Jewel Dean Johnston of Crowley, Texas, and Cynthia Wiese of Bryan; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Boyd Stephens
March 23, 1916 — April 30, 2000

ROCKDALE — Services for Boyd Stephens, 84, of the Gay Hill community are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home Chapel in Rockdale.

The Rev. Doug Springer of the Rockdale Full Gospel Church will officiate. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Stephens died Sunday at his home.

He was born in Salty, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of the Salty and Gay Hill communities. He was a self-employed farmer and carpenter and had worked for Coffield

Construction. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale and was on the board of directors for the Bartlett Electric Coop for 27 years. He was a supporter of the Milam County 4-H.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hirt Stephens.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Becky Stephens of Rockdale; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and Pearl Seals of Mystic, Iowa, Peggy and Doug Ray of Ennis, Texas, and Deborah and Jimmie Mathews of Eddy, Texas; a sister, Daisy Tucker of Thorndale, Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Carol Ray Corn
Nov. 25, 1935 — April 30, 2000

FRANKLIN — Services for Carol Ray Corn, 64, of Ridge, Texas, are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Franklin Church of Christ.

James Sterling of Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Cemetery in Ridge.

Arrangements are under the direction of Blair-Stubbs-McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Corn died Sunday in Bryan.

He was born in Easterly, Texas, and had lived all his life in the Ridge community. He retired after 27 years with the Texas Highway Department and was a Baptist. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Corn of Ridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and John Ortega of Calvert; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Susan Corn of Ridge; his mother-in-law, Pauline Tullous of Ridge; two sisters, Martha Bush and Verna Floyd, both of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Pebble Varvel of Ridge; a brother-in-law, Ferman Tullous of Ridge; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Nancy Brewster Donaldson
April 8, 1927 — April 28, 2000

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. — Memorial services for Nancy Brewster Donaldson, 73, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines in Hot Springs Village.

The Revs. Samuel H. Pope and Michael D. Seitz will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cedar Vale Funeral Home in Hot Springs Village.

Mrs. Donaldson died Friday in a Hot Springs Village hospital.
She was born in Akron, Ohio, and had lived in Hot Springs Village since 1989. She had lived for 26 years in College Station, where she was a Girl Scout leader, served as president of the College Station school trustees and was an officer of the AAUW chapter.

She was a member of the Hot Springs Village Writer’s Club, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Group and Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines and served as a volunteer at the Mid-America Science Museum.

Survivors include her husband, Wesley E. Donaldson Jr. of Hot Springs Village; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Wesley and Nancy Donaldson of Austin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Jack Olivier of Spring, Texas, Beth and Chris Frentrup of Rockville, Md., and Sara and Allen Rawls of Caldwell; a sister and brother-in-law, Drs. Marilyn and James Lauffer of Catawissa, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines Memorial Garden Fund, 275 Asturias Drive, Hot Springs Village, Ark. 71909.

Lyda Grace Smith James
Dec. 28, 1900 — April 26, 2000

ALBANY, Mo. — Services for Lyda Grace Smith James, 99, of Gentry County, Mo., were held Saturday in the Roberson-Polley Funeral Home in Albany, Mo.

Mrs. James died Wednesday in Fairfield Bay, Ark.

She was born and lived 98 years in Gentry County, Mo., where she and her husband were farmers. She was a member of Union Baptist and the First Baptist Churches in Albany and was a homemaker and a member of the Gentry County Extension Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo M. James.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ned and JoAnn James of Quitman, Ark., and Bob and Dorothy James of Bryan; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wallace Doss ‘Dee’ Leathers Jr.
Nov. 19, 1935 — April 30, 2000

CENTERVILLE — Graveside services for Wallace Doss “Dee” Leathers Jr., 64, of Centerville are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at North Creek Cemetery in Leon County.

The Rev. Richard Ray of North Creek Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mr. Leathers died Sunday in Centerville.

He was born and lived most of his life in Leon County. He was retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Ferguson Unit, where he was in charge of the hog farm.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include three brothers, Bob Wayne Leathers and Sammie J. Leathers, both of Centerville, and Morris Frank Leathers of San Augustine, Texas; and four sisters, Mary Nell Summers and Linda Lou Roberts, both of Centerville, Elizabeth Jane Klawinsky of Houston and Bennie Sue Waters of Buffalo.

Ralph Jackson Vernon Sr.
April 6, 1920 — April 30, 2000

Services for Ralph Jackson Vernon Sr., 80, of College Station are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

The Revs. Malcolm Bane and David Rowland of the First Baptist Church in College Station will officiate. Burial will be in College Station City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Vernon died Sunday in St. Joseph Manor.

He was born in Greenville, S.C., and had lived in College Station since 1968. He graduated with a master’s degree from Texas A&M University in 1951 and worked with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. from 1953 to 1966. He worked as a graduate assistant while in school and later rejoined the faculty at Texas A&M in 1966, becoming a full professor in 1971 and retiring as professor emeritus of Industrial Engineering in 1986. He was a president of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, president of the American Academy of Industrial Hygiene, and received numerous awards including Educator of the Year. After his retirement, he served as president and CEO of Biotechnics Inc. until 1990. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church in College Station.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Vernon of College Station; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack Jr. and Deanna Vernon of Houston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janis and John Skrabanek of College Station and Judy and Chris Aaron of Audobon, Pa.; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Daniel and Louise Vernon and Frank Vernon, all of Atlanta, Ga., and Ina Vernon of Greenville, S.C.; two sisters, Dorothy Henderson of Greenville, S.C., and Juanita Gaillard of Atlanta, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in College Station or to Hospice Brazos Valley.

Helen Bomnskie
May 14, 1909 — May 6, 2000

Services for Helen Bomnskie, 90, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

The Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bomnskie died Saturday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Bremond and had lived in Bryan for many years. She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bill Bomnskie Sr.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Bill Fr. and Jeanette Bomnskie of Bryan and Eddie and Jeanne Bomnskie of Danbury, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Clara and John Howard of Eagle Lake, Texas, Irene and J.E. “Jim” Sapp of Quitman, Ga., and Lula and Aubra Williamson of Iola; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
