Gregory Dennis Hancock
Oct. 17, 1950—May 22, 2000

Graveside services for Gregory Dennis Hancock, 49, of Marlin, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Bryan City Cemetery.

The Rev. Ray Marshall of Reliance Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at Hillier Funeral Home.

Mr. Hancock died Monday evening at Temple V.A. Hospital.

He was born in Bryan and lived in Marlin for 10 years. He was a realtor and received his realtor's license from Blinn College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietname War. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force and served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of the Realtor's Association.

Survivors include one brother, George Benjamin Hancock of Okeen, Okla.; one sister, Elizabeth E. Vos of College Station; and two nieces.

Memorials may be made to charities of choice.

Mable Simank
Dec. 6, 1918—May 24, 2000

Services for Mable Simank, 81, of Rockdale are set for 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

The Rev. Brian Bauer will officiate. Burial will be in l.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Simank died Wednesday at Round Rock Hospital.

She was born in Gay Hill community near Rockdale. She was a home- l maker and worked at the Sewing Factory in Cameron. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale, president of the Rockdale VFW Ladies Auxillary and a former member of the Rockdale American Legion Ladies Auxillary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Simank.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Rhonda Simank of Thorndale, Texas, and Al and Kay Simank of Rockdale; one daughter and son-in-law, Cherry and Darren Hall of Thrall, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jo Hirt of Houston; one brother-in-law, Jessie Schroeder of Thorndale; one sister-in-law, Eva Dale Hirt of Rockdale; 22 grandchidren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Emma Lee West
Jan. 1,1918—May 23, 2000

CENTERVILLE — Graveside services for Emma Lee West, 82, of Leona are set for 4 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Leon County.

The Rev. Mark Gray of Leona Baptist Church will officiate.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Walters Funeral Home in Centerville.

Mrs. West died Tuesday in Leona.

She was born in Malone, Texas, and lived in Leona for 30 years. She was a member of Leona Baptist Church and of the Joy Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, N.A. West.

Survivors include one brother, Travis Earl "Bim" Rogers of Houston; one sister, Lillie "Tincy" Rogers of Temple; one sister-in-law, Barbara Rogers of Mudoon, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Kenneth Clayton
Aug. 3, 1955 — May 21, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Rev. Kenneth Clayton, 44, of Navasota are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem House of Blessing in Navasota.

The Rev. Gregory Baldwin will officiate. Burial will be in Dennis Bryant Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota. A wake service will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Rev. Clayton died Sunday at College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Navasota and was an apartment manager. He was an associate minister and member of Salem House of Blessing.

Survivors include one brother, Thomas DeBose of Houston; four sisters, Joyce L. Stevens of Houston, Charlotte Mitchell of Houston, Marilyn Boston Bud of Houston and Renee Clayton of Navasota; and his mother, Evelyn Ashford of Navasota.

Major ‘Baby Ray’ Johnson
March 13, 1929 — May 19, 2000

Services for Major “Baby Ray” Johnson, 71, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at G.W. Williams Tabernacle in Bryan.
The Rev. D. N. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home. A wake ceremony will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Daniel & Son Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Johnson died Friday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Caldwell and was a retired Bryan Independent School District custodian. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cordia Johnson of Bryan; one daughter, Evelyn Ross of Arlington; three brothers, Milford Johnson of Bryan, L.C. Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., and Billy Joe Poole of Bryan; one sister, Bobbye Carter of Fort Worth; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Joseph E. Prince
Oct. 23, 1939 — May 24, 2000

Services for Joseph E. Prince, 60, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Brother Kenneth Prince and Brother Kevin Prince will officiate. Burial will be in Smetana Cemetery in in Smetana Community.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Prince died Wednesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Mullicah, N.J., and moved to Bryan in 1980. He was a truck driver and coached baseball for the G.T.A.A. in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Carol M. (Pangburn) Prince of Bryan; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark J. and Genevieve Prince of Absecon, N.J., Matthew R. Prince of College Station, Darrin L. and Christine Prince of College Station and Steven W. Prince of College Station; one daughter, Sherri M. Schulz of Snook; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Daniel Prince of Caldwell and David “Tex” and Debbie Prince of Roans Prairie, Texas; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Roberta and Pete Cappella of Mullicah, Florence and Stanley Ritter of Caldwell, Leah and Benny Jones of Ore City, Texas, Mary and Charles Mickey of Wellborn, Texas, and Milly and Danny Goss of Caldwell; one brother-in-law, Bill Robertson of Dallas; one sister-in-law, Judy Prince of Dallas; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Brazos County Unit of the American Cancer Society at 3207 Briarcrest Drive, Bryan, Texas, 77802.

Mildred Colburn
Feb. 3, 1917 — May 25, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Mildred Colburn, 83, of Hearne are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Hearne.
The Rev. Larry Blackmon will officiate. Burial will be in Navasota City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

Mrs. Colburn died Thursday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Evansville, Texas.

Survivors include one sister, Mattie Earle McCoslin of Hearne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Velma Ray ‘Peaches’ Ross
Oct. 19, 1949 — May 21, 2000

Services for Velma Ray “Peaches” Ross, 50, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Rev. Larry T. Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Ross died Sunday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.
She was born in Bryan and was a lifelong resident. She was an administration assistant for the Bryan Independent School District. She attended Kemp High School and Durham College in Houston, and she was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church choir.

Survivors include three brothers, James O. Ross of Bryan, John W. Ross of Bryan and Gregory L. Ross of Bryan; three sisters, Wanda Malone of Bryan, LeJuanda Freeman of Arlington and Jacqueline Mitchell of Houston; her mother, Rosie Lee Ross; her grandmother, Velma Ross; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church.

Dorothy Marie Scott
April 22, 1925 — May 25, 2000

HEARNE — Services for Dorothy Marie Scott, 75, of Hearne are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Hearne Church of Christ.
The Rev. Geron Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in Easterly Cemetery in Easterly, Texas.

Visitation will be at Heartfield Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Mrs. Scott died Thursday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was born in Ridge, Texas, and was a retired cook for Hearne Independent School District. She was a member of Hearne Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil L. Scott of Hearne; one son and daughter-in-law, David Lee and Karen Scott of Gainesville, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynette and Lotice Cole of Port Neches, Texas, and Sharon and Joe La Paglia of Hearne; one sister, Avis Caldwell Suggs of Franklin, Texas; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Charles R. Saxon
Jan. 18, 1923 — May 24, 2000

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — Services for Charles R. Saxon, 77, of North Charleston, S.C., are set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Wando Woods Baptist Church in North Charleston.

The Rev. Boyd Broad will officiate. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Saxon died Wednesday in North Charleston.

He was born in Bryan. He was a deacon at Wando Woods Baptist Church and a member of The Kings Sunday School Class. He founded the Keenagers Senior Adult Group for the church. He was a Mason and a member of the Exchange Club, and he served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Strebb Saxon of North Charleston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and Tim Shull of Lexington, S.C., and Robyn and Robert Georges of St. Mary’s, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Wando Woods Baptist Church at 4123 Dorsey Avenue, North Charleston, S.C., 29405.
Arrangements are under the direction of J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Funeral Home in North Charleston.

Charles Ray Carrington
Sept. 28, 1955 — May 22, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for Charles Ray Carrington, 44, of Richards, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Richards.

The Rev. E. P. Walker of First Baptist Church in Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in Long Street Cemetery in Richards.

Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Navasota. A wake service will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Carrington died Monday at Grimes St. Joseph Hospital.
He was born in Navasota and was a plumber. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Charles A. Carrington of Houston and Chaddrick Ray Carrington of Conroe; two daughters, Valerie M. Carrington of Huntsville and Tiffai N. Carrington of Houston; four brothers, Arthur Sauls of Huntsville, Sherman Sauls of Conroe, Sam Johnson of Houston and J.H. Dickson of Navasota; two sisters, Brenda Stribling of Richards and Shirley Bay of Houston; her parents, Minnie Lee James of Richards and Bennie Carrington of Houston; and one grandchild.

Sylvia Olivia Leonhardt Mertz
June 10, 1911 — May 25, 2000

BURTON — Services for Sylvia Olivia Leonhardt Mertz, 88, of Burton, Texas, are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine.

The Rev. Teresa Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Latium Cemetery.

The family will begin receiving visitors at 5 p.m. Saturday at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.

Mrs. Mertz died Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham.

She was born in Winedale, Texas. She taught Sunday School for 25 years at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and she was a gardener.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lee Mertz.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathryn and A.V. Carroll Jr. of Burton, Nina and Alfred Herrmann of Houston and Margaret Mertz of Burton; one brother and sister-in-law, Edgar and Loretta Leonhardt of Red Rock; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Olga Mayer of Brenham and Rosa Lee and Delphine Hinze of Burton; three sisters-in-law, Ruby and Albert Harrison of Austin, Lorine Mertz of Brenham and Esther Mertz of Brenham; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
