April 2, 1928 — Sept. 1, 2000

A memorial service for Harold Ernest Cole, 72, of Bryan is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Friends Congregational Church in College Station. The Rev. Audrey Nelson of Healing Light Center will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Claire Bros. Funeral Home in Houston.

Mr. Cole died Friday at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.

He was born in Nassau, Bahamas. He was a business manager of Lazer Magic. He was also a mechanical engineer. He had been a member of Brazos Valley Art League, Brazos Valley Chorale and Star Bridge Club.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of First Methodist Church in Bryan.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Pennington of Bryan; two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda Cole-Smith and States Smith of Houston, and Gwen McWhorter of Wichita Falls; a sister, Thiry Sweeting of Nassau, Bahamas; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society-Prostate Cancer Research.

Thelma Jean Blake
Oct. 7, 1946 — Sept. 2, 2000

TUNIS, Texas — Services for Thelma Jean Blake, 53, of Tunis are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Old Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Tunis. The Rev. Aaron Blake of Brownwood, Texas, will officiate. Burial will be in Old Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan.

Mrs. Blake died Saturday at College Station Medical Center.

She was born in Hearne and graduated from Jones High School in Snook. She was employed at Texas A&M University. She was a member of Christ Holy Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Bennett Blake of Tunis; a son and daughter-in-law, Cedric and Jennifer Blake of Tunis; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Brian Hall of College Station, and Cynthia Blake of Bryan; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Melvin and Lilly Johnson of Bryan, Dwight Jackson of Midland; one sister and brother-in-law, Ima and Charles Branch of Tunis; and four grandchildren.

William ‘Billy’ De Thompson
March 16, 1935 — Sept. 5, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for William “Billy” De Thompson, 65, of Madisonville are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Madisonville Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerald Brown will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at the Fairbanks Cemetery in Houston.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Thompson died Tuesday.

He was born in Walker County. He was a self-employed tree surgeon and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Marie Thompson.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Fay Thompson of Madisonville; a stepdaughter, Doris Griffith of Magnolia, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Lloyd Willis of Galveston; and two step-grandchildren.

James Edward ‘Jim’ Wright
Nov. 5, 1940 — Sept. 5, 2000

A memorial service for James Edward “Jim” Wright, 59, of Bryan is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Central Church of Christ in Bryan. The Rev. Dick Ihfe will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Keith, Texas.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mr. Wright died Tuesday at the VA Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. He graduated from A&M Consolidated High School, where he was a varsity football player. He earned a bachelor’s degree in building construction from Trinity University and was a construction superintendent. He was a captain in the Army during the Vietname War. He was a member of A&M Church of Christ in College Station.

Survivors include his wife, Adele Davis Wright of Bryan; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Wade and Bonnie Duke of Iola, Darren and Michelle Wright, Brandon and Brandye Wright, and Mason Wright, all of Bryan; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Cathy Wright of Bryan, Bob and Sharon Wright of Terre Haute, Ind., and Steve and Jan Wright of Soldotna, Alaska; and four grandchildren.

Marvin Work
Dec. 31, 1930 — Sept. 4, 2000

Graveside services for Marvin Work, 69, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Friendship Cemetery in Buckholts.

Mr. Work died Monday in a Bryan hospital.

He was born in Jacksonsville, Texas.

Survivors include a brother, James Page of San Antonio; and two sisters, Minnie Alford of Minerva, Texas, and Patsy Parker of Caldwell.

Lottie Rosie Witt
July 15, 1911 — Sept. 5, 2000

CAMERON — Services for Lottie Rosie Witt, 89, of Cameron are set for 10 a.m. Friday at the New Tabor Brethren Church near Caldwell. The Rev. Henry Beseda will officiate. Burial will be in the New Tabor Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Witt died Tuesday in a Temple hospital.

She was born in Caldwell. She was a 27-year member of the Woodmen of the World.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Othell Witt.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Winston and Nina Witt of Las Vegas; a daughter-in-law, Bettie Witt of Austin; a sister, Ann Sebesta of Caldwell; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard B. Manley
April 12, 1940 — Sept. 2, 2000

Services for Richard B. Manley, 60, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Friday at G.W. Williams Tabernacle in Bryan. The Rev. C.L. King of Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Walker Settlement.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Manley died Saturday at College Station Medical Center.

He was born in Benchley, Texas. He was a truck driver, a mason and a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He was a former singer in the group called Southern Stars.

Survivors include his fiancee, Terry Howard of Bryan; four sons, Rickey, Randy, Trenton, and Sidney Manley, all of Bryan; five daughters, Stephaneye Manley-Dubose, Stephanay Manley, LaRicher Parks, and Alice Manley, all of Austin, and Zena Manley Tarver of Bryan; two brothers, Arlandus Manley Jr. of San Antonio and Howard Manley of Bryan; two sisters, Easterlen McClinton and Dorothy Manley, both of San Antonio; four stepchildren, 29 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Home Patient Care, Vencor or St. Joseph EMS.

Billie L. ‘Dusty’ Blakeney
Oct. 10, 1926 — Sept. 5, 2000

Services for Billie L. “Dusty” Blakeney, 73, of College Station are set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. The Rev. Dwight Edwards of Grace Bible Church will officiate.

Mrs. Blakeney died Tuesday at her home.

She was born in Mississippi. She was a homemaker and worked for Humana Hospital in Clear Lake, Texas, as an insurance verification clerk. She had lived in College Station for six years.

She had been a member of University Baptist Church in Clear Lake.

Survivors include her husband, James P. Blakeney of College Station; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stan and Nila Blakeney of Fort Worth, J.A. and Lena Blakeney of Birmingham, Ala., and Paul G. Blakeney of College Station; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Bill Wyncoff of North Carolina, and Kristy and Dr. Scott Kimball of College Station; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jerry and Joanne Blakeney of Jackson, Miss., and Tommy Blakeney of Fort Worth; and five great-grandchildren.

Gladys Esther Norcross
Aug. 15, 1909 — Sept. 5, 2000

Services for Gladys Esther Norcross, 91, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Cloyce Coffman and Dan Gough will officiate. Burial will be in the Bryan City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Norcross died Tuesday at Sherwood Health Care.

She was born in Marlin, Texas, and had resided in this area for the past 57 years. She was a retired seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry B. Norcross.

Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Esther and Sanders Letbetter of Bryan, Beverly and Jim Ordahl of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Peggy Sheneman of College Station; a sister, Lutie Cannon of Hearne; a sister-in-law, Leola Belcher of Longview, Texas; 11 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Foundation.

P.A. Zeno
Aug. 17, 1917 — Sept. 3, 2000

Services for P.A. Zeno, 83, of Bryan are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Progressive Baptist Church in Hearne. The Rev. James Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Hearne.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Zeno died Sunday at Bryton Inn Health Care.

He was born in Hammond, Texas. He was a retired railroad worker.

Survivors include his son, Seguria Mosley of Hearne; two brothers, J.B. Zeno and William Zeno, both of Dallas; three sisters, Willie Mae Birden, Corine Adams and Redelia Rogers, all of Dallas; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Progressive Baptist Church.

Warren Benford
Sept. 9, 1905 — Sept. 3, 2000

BENCHLEY — Services for Warren Benford, 94, of Benchley are set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Bryan. The Rev. Thomas Wilborn of Shoreline Baptist Church of Austin will officiate. Burial will be at Wilson Chapel Memorial Park in Benchley.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday at Daniel & Son Funeral Home.

Mr. Benford died Sunday in Benchley.

He was born in Benchley and was a lifetime resident. He was a carpenter and a member of the Wilson Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Warren Lee Benford and the Rev. James L. Benford, both of Houston, Wayman C. Benford of Stone Mountain, Ga., Leonard Lee Benford of Dallas and Timmy Lee Benford of Bryan; four daughters, Mary Smithers and Cora Lee Daniels, both of Houston, Josephine Marie Hill of Brooker, Fla., and Thelma Wilborn of Austin; one sister, Lillie Johnson of Houston; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Memorials may be made to Wilson Chapel Baptist Church.

Frances Logan
Sept. 27, 1927 — Sept. 7, 2000

FOREST CITY, N.C. — A memorial service for Frances Louise McDaniel Logan, 72, of Forest City, N.C., is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Forest City. The Revs. Barry K. Keys and M.B. Morrow Jr. will officiate. There will be a private burial in Cool Springs Cemetery.

Visitation is set from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Padgett & King Mortuary in Forest City.
Mrs. Logan died Thursday in Rutherford Hospital.

She was a community activist and a member of the First Baptist Church in Forest City.

Survivors include her husband, Blaine B. Logan Jr.; a son, B. Beattie Logan III, of Asheville, N.C.; a daughter, Sharon L. Kelly of College Station; three brothers, James McDaniel of Ellenboro, N.C., Bill McDaniel of Atlanta and Melburn McDaniel of Ellenboro; a sister, Margaret Willis of Rutherfordton, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

Fannie Dean Fragoso
March 7, 1944 — Sept. 5, 2000

Services for Fannie Dean Fragoso, 56, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Callaway-Jones Chapel in Bryan. The Rev. John Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Restever Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Fragoso died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.

She was a lifelong resident of Bryan.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Fragoso of Bryan; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Will and Sheri Dean, Charles Dean, Shannon and Wendy Dean, Wayne and Angela Dean and Charlie Dean Jr., all of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Arthur Ashton of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Barbara Ramirez of Bryan; two sisters, Cathrine Galvez of Bryan and Nora Ramirez of Dallas; and 17 grandchildren.
