MADISONVILLE — Services for Howard W. Downey, 76, of Bedias are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville.

The Rev. Dean Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Downey died Sunday in Franklin.

He was born in San Antonio and served as a medic during World War II for the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 211 for 50 years.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Downey of Navasota; two stepsons and a daughter-in-law, Jake Callaway of Bryan and Paul and Sandy Downey of Brenham; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Wymola of Franklin; two sisters-in-law, Nell Downey of San Antonio and Doris Blackwell of Arlington, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

John Phillip Hansen
July 6, 1950 — Sept. 22, 2000

Memorial services for John Phillip Hansen, 50, of Bryan are set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Tampico Restaurant in Bryan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

Mr. Hansen died Friday at his home.

He was born in San Benito, Texas, and lived in Bryan since 1978. He was a truck driver for T.D. Trucking and attended Pan-American College in Edinburg, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Deere Hansen of Bryan; a son, Phillip Hansen of Austin; a stepson, Chad Deere of Sulphur, La.; his mother, Doris Hansen of San Benito; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Sharon Hansen of San Benito, Dan and Connie Hansen of College Station, Paul and Esther Hansen of Seattle and Mark and Patricia Hansen of Athens, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Nita and Scott Brumbaugh of Levittsburg, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Christian School, 1815 North 7th Street, Harlingen, Texas 78550.

JoEllyn Andruss Perry
July 12, 1931 — Sept. 24, 2000

NAVASOTA — Services for JoEllyn Andruss Perry, 69, of Singleton, Texas, are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Singleton Baptist Church.

The Rev. Floyd Hoke of the Singleton Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in the Singleton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nobles Funeral Chapel in Navasota.

Mrs. Perry died Sunday in Singleton.

She was born in Eldorado, Okla., and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Singleton Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas E. Perry Jr. of Singleton; two sons, Norman W. Lewis of Singleton and Keith E. Gorsuch of Nederland, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Renee and Daniel Erickson of Paw Paw, Mich.; a brother and sister-in-law, Edward W. and Linda Andruss of Singleton; and seven grandchildren.

Mozelle Wehmeyer
May 19, 1925 — Sept. 25, 2000

MADISONVILLE — Services for Mozelle Wehmeyer, 75, of Madisonville are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the North Madison Church of Christ.

Lanier Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in the Madisonville City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mrs. Wehmeyer died Monday in Madisonville.

She was born in Madisonville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Van William Wehmeyer.

Survivors include two sons, Gus A. Wehmeyer and Donnie Gannaway, both of Madisonville; a daughter, Paula Staley of Madisonville; a brother, T.W. Adams of Madisonville; three sisters, Nina Faye Adkins and Imogene Gannaway, both of Madisonville, and Rita Bunker of Texas City, Texas; two brothers-in-law, A.P. Wehmeyer of College Station and Fred Wehmeyer of Austin; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

James McCallum
June 2, 1923 — Sept. 22, 2000

SAN ANTONIO — Graveside services for James McCallum, 77, of San Antonio are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at Alexander Cemetery in Bryan.

Arrangements are under the direction of Castle Ridge Mortuary in San Antonio.

Mr. McCallum died Thursday.

Survivors include his wife, Joycie McCallum; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Lydia Peters
Dec. 10, 1919 — Sept. 26, 2000

CARMINE, Texas — Services for Lydia Peters, 80, of Carmine are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine. The Rev. Paul Bohot will officiate. Burial will be in La Bahia Cemetery near Burton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
Mrs. Peters died Tuesday in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.

She was born in Washington. She attended Browns Prairie School. She was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine and the Women of the ELCA. Mrs. Peters was also a member of Sons of Hermann Lodge 131 and SPJST Lodge 179.

Survivors include her husband, Arnold Peters of Carmine; a son and daughter-in-law, Arnold Jr. and Janette Peters of Brenham; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Ronnie Roemer of Brenham; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Menetta Wied of Austin and Mary Ann Bathe of Houston.

Memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine or the charity of your choice.

Roy Mathis Jr.
Oct. 10, 1923 — Sept. 25, 2000

CORSICANA, Texas — Graveside services for Roy Mathis Jr., 76, are set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

Mr. Mathis died Monday in the Olin Teague V.A. Hospital in Temple, Texas.

He was born in Tanglewood, Texas, and was a welder for a shipyard in Houston. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Mathis.

Survivors include numerous first cousins, including Evelyn Burrough and her husband Frank of Rockdale.

Edward Green
May 30, 1914 — Sept. 23, 2000

Services for Edward Green, 86, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Thursday at Ruby’s Chapel at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan. The Rev. F.G. Ford of New Zion Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Green died Saturday at his home.

He was born in Leon County.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Green of Mexia, Texas; three sons, Willie Ed Green and Bobbie J. Green, both of Mexia, and Floyd D. Green of Houston; a daughter, Ava Nell Green Bullock of Houston; one brother, Joe Green of Houston; three sisters, Lillian Campbell of Bryan, Carrie M. Hunter of Kansas City, Mo., and Christine Emanuel of Bryan; 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Terry Steven Tripp
July 18, 1965 — Sept. 25, 2000

SNOOK — Services for Terry Steven Tripp, 35, of Snook are set for 10 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Bryan. The Rev. Bob Richers of First United Methodist Church and the Rev. John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Snook Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hillier Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Tripp died Monday in Brackenridge, Texas.

He was born in Stillwater, Okla. He was a wholesale manager for the Antique Rose Emporium. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church softball team. Mr. Tripp graduated from Bryan High School in 1983 and Tarrelton State University with a degree in agriculture economics.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Jakubik Tripp of Snook; one son, Thomas Leeland Tripp of Snook; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Tim and Paula Tripp of Davis, Calif., Tony and Elsa Haubold Tripp of League City, Texas, and Tom and Carrie Weitinger Tripp of Houston; a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy Tripp Stiegler and Gary of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Lisa and Nathan Jones of Jacksonville, Texas; his parents, Leland and Bernadine Tripp of Bryan; a mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leroy and Margaret Jakubik of Bryan.

Memorials may be made to the Thomas Leeland Tripp Savings Fund at the First Bank of Snook or the First United Methodist Church of Bryan Children’s Sunday School Refurbishing Fund.

Norman C. ‘Jack’ Jutson
June 6, 1928 — Sept. 25, 2000

FLORENCE, Texas — Services for Norman C. “Jack” Jutson, 72, of Florence are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne. The Rev. Eddie Mayo of Elliott Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at Martin’s Prairie Cemetery near Bryan.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Jutson died Monday at Georgetown Hospital.

He was born in Navasota. He had been a maintenance man for an apartment complex. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Five Points Baptist Church near Hearne.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue Smitherman Jutson of Florence; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman C. “Jacky” and Holly Jutson of Bryan; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Linda Fann of Frankston, Texas, and Larry and Anna Maria Fann of Liberty Hill, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and James Holley of El Dorado, Texas, and Janet and Rick Smalley of College Station; a brother, Vernon Jutson of Hearne; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara Sloan of College Station, Audrey and Eugene Inman of Angelton, Texas, and Lillian Ruth Price of Millican; numerous nieces and nephews, and eight grandchildren.

Ruby Rae Smith
Nov. 28, 1913 — Sept. 27, 2000

Graveside services for Ruby Rae Smith, 86, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Bryan City Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Bruce of Central Baptist Church of Bryan will officiate.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.
Mrs. Smith died Wednesday at Bryton Inn.

She was born in Chriesman, Texas. She had been the owner and operator of Aggie Cleaners. Mrs. Smith was a member of Central Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Newton Smith.

Survivors include a son, Warren Smith; a daughter, Pat Smith; a sister, Blanche, and seven grandchildren.

Louis C. Davis
Aug. 6, 1912 — Sept. 23, 2000

TEMPLE, Texas — Services for Louis C. Davis, 88, of Temple are set for noon Saturday at Madisonville High School Auditorium. The Rev. Lugene Spurlock Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Lyons Community Cemetery.

A wake will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Branford-Dawson Funeral Home in Temple.
Mr. Davis died Saturday in Temple.

He was born in Trinity. He was a retired principal from Madisonville Independent School District. He received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Prairie View A&M University. He had been a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Temple.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Davis of Temple; a son, Louis Lowery Davis of San Antonio; two daughters, Annette Woodfork of Dallas, and Madelyn Gardner of San Antonio; and five grandchildren.

Sam Barnett
Jan. 18, 1950 — Sept. 25, 2000

Services for Sam Barnett, 50, of College Station are set for 4 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. The Rev. John Boyle of Wellborn Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in College Station Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Barnett died Monday at his home.

He was born in Robertson County. He had worked for the College Station Post Office since 1983 as a route carrier and was a distribution clerk at the time of his death. He served in the U.S. Army and also was a merchant mariner. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Barnett of College Station; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jody Tucker of Miami, and Daniel P. and Kelli Barnett of Bremond; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina L. Barnett and Angelia K. and Randy Tucker, all of Bremond; one sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Larry Cherry of Missouri City, Texas; three nephews, and six grandchildren.
