Velma Smith Rash, 83, of Hemphill died Oct. 16, 2000, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill with burial at Hemphill Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday at the funeral home.
A native of Sabine County, she lived in Hemphill most of her life and was a retired grocer.
Survivors include her son, Don Rash of Many, La.; daughter, Ginger Rash White of Hemphill; sister, Duvergn Cordray of Hemphill; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
DARRELL DEWAYNE SANDERS
Darrell Dewayne Sanders, 17, of DeRidder, La., died Oct. 16, 2000, at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, La.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shady Grove Pentecostal Church in DeRidder with burial at Whitaker Cemetery under the direction of Beauregard-Vernon Funeral Home in DeRidder.
A native and longtime resident of DeRidder, he was a student at DeRidder High School and was a junior firefighter with Three Pines Fire Department.
Survivors include his parents, Dewayne and Janet Sanders of DeRidder; sister, Mindy Sanders of DeRidder; and grandparents, Burlin and Beverly Sanders of Cravens, La., and Glen "Pete’’ and Delores Cooley of DeRidder.

Hettie Solomon, 94, of Hemphill died Oct. 16, 2000, at Sabine County Hospital.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Thomas Johnson Church of Christ in Hemphill with burial at Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Percy Garner & Son Mortuary in San Augustine. A wake will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
A native of Sabine County, she lived in Hemphill most of her life.
Survivors include sisters, Hivie G. McCowan and Arma G. James, both of Hemphill.
FAY HATTMAN SPEER
Fay Hattman Speer, 82, of Orange died Oct. 17, 2000, at Memorial Hermann Baptist Orange Hospital.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Orange under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A native of Jacksonville and a former resident of Pittsburgh, Pa., she lived in Orange 52 years and was a retired DuPont secretary.
Survivors include her son, Gordon R. Speer of Houston; daughter, Linda S. Groene of Los Angeles; and brother, Sam Hattman of Orange.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Bobby Dean Spradlin, 64, of Fannett died Oct. 17, 2000, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A native of Roxton, he lived in Port Arthur 49 years before moving to Fannett nine years ago. He was retired from the City of Port Arthur police department and was a Korean War U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Charline Shankles Spradlin of Fannett; sons, John Curtis Spradlin of Cheyenne, Wyo., David Bryant Spradlin of Joplin, Mo., Danny Arena of Nederland and Kenneth Arena of Beaumont; daughter, Kellene Burnaman of Lumberton; sisters, Beverly LeNoir of Nederland, Margaret Dorman of Orange, Norma Ball of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mary Briseno of Houston; and 10 grandchildren.
REV. CLYDE A. BENNETT
Rev. Clyde A. Bennett, 85, of Woodville died Oct. 14, 2000, at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Woodville with burial at Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Stringer and Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.
A native of Brewer, Maine, and former resident of Houston, he lived in Woodville many years and was a retired First Christian Church minister and former musician with the Houston Symphony.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Bennett of Woodville; sons, Gary Bennett of Miami, Fla., and Chris Bennett of Houston; sister, Gladys Robinson of Bradley, Maine; and six grandchildren.

A native of West Point, Miss., she lived in the Golden Triangle 28 years and was a retired Little Cypress-Mauriceville School District school teacher.
Survivors include her son, Jack Edwards of Groves; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A native of Abbeville, La., she lived in Port Arthur most of her life.

A longtime resident of Port Arthur, she lived in Lumberton many years and was a retired self-employed respiratory therapist.
Survivors include daughters, Brenda Jones of DeRidder, La., Kay Littlepage of Lumberton and Colette McNamara of Bridge City; brothers, Darrell White and Francis "Pamp" White, both of Port Arthur and Jimmy Don White of Groves; and three grandchildren.

Leroy Francis Hebert, 79, of Groves died Oct. 15, 2000, in Groves.

A native of Iota, La., he lived in Groves, was a retired Texaco welding supervisor and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivor include his son, Glen E. Hebert of Bridge City; daughter, Kathy Mingle of Groves; sisters, Nita Dorin and Hilda Roccaforte, both of Groves; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A native of Fred, she was an assistant girl’s coach at Woodville Middle School.

Dick E. "Dee-Dee" Humphries, 75, of Dickinson died Oct. 16, 2000, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton with burial at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A native of Port Neches and former resident of Baytown and Friendswood, he lived in Dickinson 23 years and was a retired Dean-Jeans foreman. He was also a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and Pearl Harbor Survivor.
Survivors include his wife, Floy Conner Humphries of Dickinson; son, Henry Clifford Long III of Coppell; daughters, Judy Ann Mattingly of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brenda Lea Clark of Dayton and Bertie Lea Collier of Webster; sister, Betty McCoslin of Houston; one granddaughter; eight grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren.

A native of Orange and former resident of Buna, she lived in Beaumont eight months.
