Joe H. Sanders, 83, of Port Arthur died Aug. 11, 2000 at Park Place Medical Center.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Baptist Church with burial at Johnson Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home in Port Arthur. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.
A native of Jeanerette, La., he lived in Port Arthur 73 years and was retired from U.S. Postal Service. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his daughters, Johanna Lewis of Port Arthur and Sonia Harris of League City; son, Thaddeus Sanders of Port Arthur; and sister, Ella Manuel of Port Arthur; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Lula "Lula" M. Scroggins, 79, of DeRidder, La., died Aug. 11, 2000 at Beauregard memorial Hospital.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Sunday at Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Mittie, La., with a graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday at Rosewood Memorial Park in Humble under the direction of Beauregard-Vernon Funeral Home in DeRidder.
A native of Nacogdoches, she lived in DeRidder several years.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Sweat of DeRidder; sister, Nell Wynn of Nacogdoches; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Virgil Ray Shown, 55, of Livingston died Aug. 11, 2000 at Memorial Medical Center of East Texas in Lufkin.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pace Funeral Home in Livingston with burial at Camp Ruby Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A native of Camp Ruby, he was longtime resident of Polk County, and was a rig welder.

Funeral was Monday at Warren Chapel Baptist Church in Warren under the direction of Coleman’s Tyler County Funeral Home in Woodville.
A native of Diboll, he lived in Warren and Houston several years and was self-employed.

John M. ‘Johnny’ Wright, 64, of Oak Island died Aug. 11, 2000 at his residence.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac with a private burial to be held at a later date.
A former resident of Baytown, he lived in Oak Island many years and was a self-employed fisherman.
Survivors include his brother, K.Z. Wright of Baytown; sister, Dorothy Wright James of Montgomery; and two nephews; and two nieces.

A native of Kentucky, he lived in Vidor many years and was a retired Joseph T. Griffin Conventionery convention decorator and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

A native of Doucette, she lived in Doucette before moving to Kountze.

A native of Newton, he lived in Jasper many years and was a retired refinery worker and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

A native of Port Arthur, he lived in Bridge City most of his life and was owner and operator of Lees-Co Excavation and Site Preparation Specialists.

A native of Port Arthur, she lived in Denison several years and was a retired seamstress.
