Edgar G. Harrison

Services for Edgar G. Harrison, 82, of Fairfield, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairfield Cemetery. Capps Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Mr. Harrison died Thursday in Fairfield.
He was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Wilton, Ala. to Geneva and Thomas Harrison.

Mr. Harrison graduated from Hewitt High School in Trussville, Ala., in 1940. He served in the Army Infantry and Engineering Corps in the Pacific during World War II.

He moved to  Texas in 1953 and worked for Industrial Generating Co. in Rockdale until 1970. He then moved to Fairfield and worked for TUGCO at the Big Brown power plant until he retired in 1983.
Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by five brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Self Harrison of Fairfield; a sister, Martha Plunkett; daughters, Nancy Legg, Becky Joseph and Jill Marsh; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dane Legg, Daryl Legg, Deric Legg, Joe Joseph III, Nora Joseph and Eddie Joseph.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

William Henderson

Funeral service for William Henderson, 67, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.

Mr. Henderson died Friday afternoon at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Lucille Parker

Funeral arrangements for Lucille Parker of Hobbs, N.M. are pending at Herrington/Land of Memory.

Mrs. Parker died Friday in Hobbs.

Patty Hale Reese

Service for Patty Hale Reese, 90, of Nacogdoches, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Nacogdoches First United Methodist Church in the Christ Chapel with the Rev. Berry Bauerschlag officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Laird-McGill Funeral Home.
Mrs. Reese died Friday in Nacogdoches.
She was born Dec. 7, 1911 in Crockett to Nora Rebecca Goodwin Hall and Oscar Burnett Hale.
Mrs. Reese graduated from Crockett High School and attended  Texas University and Sam Houston University. She was a school teacher and later employed as coordinator of Women for Consolidated Steel in Orange.
She was a member of Nacogdoches First United Methodist Church and its W.S.C.S and the Open Door Sunday School. She was a past president of the Debutante Club, a member of Nacogdoches Daughters of the American Revolution and the U.D.C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Reese; and sister, Catharine Hale Judkins.
She is survived by a brother, Gean Hale of Nacogdoches; and a sister, Earnestine Smith of Thibodaux, La.
Memorials may be made to Set Free Campaign, c/o First United Methodist Church, 210 E. Hospital, Nacogdoches,  Texas 75961.

John Conaway

Services for John Dalton Conaway, 83, of Athens, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel. Burial will follow at Elmtown Cemetery.
Mr. Conaway died Friday at East  Texas Medical Center in Athens.
He was born May 24, 1919 in Palestine to Richard L. and Cora Lee Easley Conaway.
Mr. Conaway was raised in the Elmwood Community and had lived in Anderson County most of his life. He was a Christian. He was a graduate of Elmwood School and of Palestine High School. He was a farmer and rancher. He served in the U.S. Army where he was a member of the 145th Combat Engineers and was involved in building the Alkan Highway. He served at the Battle of the Bulge.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Lee Conaway; and sisters, Ollie Shirey, Edna Mallard, Ruby Grasty and Mable Willard.
Mr. Conaway is survived by his wife, Odetta Conaway of Athens; sons, Danny R. Conaway of Murchison, John Alton Conaway of Tyler, Richard “Ricky” Conaway and Steven “Stevey” Conaway, both of Athens; daughters, Helen Marie Weaver of Trinidad, Naomi Bell of Buffalo, Pamela Cauldwell of Palestine; brother, Jack Walter Conaway of Frankston; sisters, Evelyn Fairris, Ema Thornton, Faye  Taylor and Opal Warren, all of Palestine; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Todd Weaver, Torrey Weaver, Mark Conaway, Chad Conaway, Shane Bell and Mikey Cauldwell.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jessica Jan McLean

Services for Jessica Jan McLean, 18, of Groesbeck, were held Jan. 8 at First Baptist Church in Groesbeck. Burial was in Fort Parker Memorial Park. Groesbeck Funeral Home handled arrangements.
She died Jan. 5 near Groesbeck in an automobile accident.
Miss McLean was born April 6, 1984 in Waco.
She graduated from Groesbeck High School in 2002.
Miss McLean is survived by her mother, Jill Record of Mexia; father, Rocky McLean of Groesbeck; sister, Rockcy McLean of Groesbeck; brothers, Justin McLean of Groesbeck, and Joshua and Jordan Record, both of Mexia; grandparents, Don and Linda  Woods of Palestine; grandmother, Janet McLean of Groesbeck; and great-grandmother, Edith Cox of Groesbeck.
Pallbearers were Cole McLean, Dillon McLean, Shane McLean, Clay Woody, Jeff Morris, Flint McLean, Darrell McLean and Richie Wilson.

Frances Marberry

Services for Frances Marberry, 71, of Butler, were at 10 a.m. today at Capps Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Don Suits officiating. Burial followed in Lake Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Marberry died Monday at her home.
She was born Jan. 5, 1932 in Monroe, La. to Louis  Woods and Lonie Smith Woods.
Mrs. Marberry was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, R.L. “Bill” Marberry of Butler; daughter, Diana Lynn McEachern of Fairfield; sons, Robert L. Marberry Jr. of Houston, Steve Edward Marberry and William Allen Marberry, both of Longview, and Paul W. Marberry of Dallas; sisters, Dixie Corder and Doris Touchey, both of Houston; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were John Nannetter, Philip Shaw, James Trahan, Billy Duke, Norm Ferguson and Jackie Ford.

Buddy Waters

Services for Buddy Waters, 95, will be at noon Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Daviss Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Waters died Jan. 10 at Stoneybrook Healthcare Center in Houston.
He was born Sept. 16, 1907, in Tucker to Johnnie and Nellie Quarles Waters.
At age 10, he worked at a dairy to support his widowed mother and younger brother. Later, he was a crane operator for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
Mr. Waters was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for many years where he sang in the choir and was a team captain. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Waters; and daughter, Juliette M. Lark.
Mr. Waters is survived by granddaughter, Jacquelyn Branch of Missouri City; five grandsons; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be William Fawell, Adrian M. Lark, Christian B. Lark, Corey E. Lark, Erik F. Lark and Edgar Reed III.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Branch, Walter C. Branch, Henry Eiglebiger Sr., Lenard Eiglebiger, Broderick Fawell and Noel L. Lark Jr.
Viewing will be held Thursday at the funeral home and one hour before the services at the church.

Jerry B. Cole

Services for Jerry B. Cole, 83, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Revs. Jay Abernathy and Doug Herrell officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park.
Mr. Cole died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 12, 1919 in Streetman to Robert Clyde Cole and Lulla Belle Bressie Cole.
Mr. Cole was a member of First Baptist Church. He also was an usher for the church. He graduated from Baylor University in 1940. He was a member of the Palestine Rotary Club. He was owner and operator of Anderson County Equipment Company from 1974 until his retirement in 1982.
He was preceded in death by brother, Robert E. Cole.
Mr. Cole is survived by his wife, Barbara Cole of Palestine; daughter, Linda Cole McDonald of Palestine; son, Jerry L. Cole of Austin; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Gray, Cad Williams, W.L. Green, John Cole McDonald, Matthew McDonald, John Ballard McDonald, Gary Thomas and David Walling.
Honorary pallbearers will be O.L. Sharon, Wayne Sellers, John Riley Henson, L.L. Davis, Don Davis and Ken Yeast.
Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Buttram Jr.

Funeral arrangements for John Horace Buttram Jr., 66, of Oakwood, are pending at Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mr. Buttram died Sunday at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.

Louise Cheatham

Funeral arrangements for Louise Cheatham, 89, of Grapeland, are pending at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Mrs. Cheatham died this morning at East  Texas Medical Center in Crockett.

Judith Watlington

Services for Judith A. Watlington, 64, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Revs. Tom Grissom and David Luckert officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Park under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Watlington died Friday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born July 27, 1936, in Palestine, to Roy and Emily Dryman.

Mrs. Watlington graduated from Palestine High School in 1954, received her associate’s degree from Trinity Valley Community College and her bachelor’s degree from LeTourneau College in Longview.

She retired from the City of Palestine as assistant city manager in 1998. She was past president of the  Texas City Managers Association of District 5. She also served as president of the Palestine Public Library Board and was current president of the YMCA Board of Directors. She also was a member of the Palestine Rotary Club and a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Watlington was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Jerry S. Dryman.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Nelson Watlington Sr. of Palestine; daughters, Marla Watlington Buschardt of Houston, Tamara Watlington Larrivicre and Laura Watlington Moore, both of Deer Park; son, Joe “Jody” Nelson Watlington Jr. of Deer Park; and 13 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Al Watlington, Joe Watlington, Kelly Watlington, Truitt Barley, Steve Barley and Hayden Barley.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Donna L. Fryar

Private services for Donna L. Fryar, 93, of Palestine, will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Holly Springs Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Fryar died Tuesday at Southland Health Care Center in Lufkin.
She was born Jan. 10, 1908 in Palestine to Don W. and Louisa A. Zincke Miles.
Mrs. Fryar lived in Palestine most of her life. She was a Baptist and a housewife. She also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Ladies of the Nile.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Fryar; and son, Bob Fryar.
Mrs. Fryar is survived by sons, Jim Fryar of Garland and Tom Fryar of Odessa; daughter, Shirley Bolt of Lufkin; sister, Clara Mae Pate of Cut and Shoot; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Bolt, Gary Bolt, Eric Bolt, Tracy Bolt, Randall Bolt and Robert Fryar.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Sharon Temple, Order of the Eastern Star, or Holly Springs Cemetery Association.

Verna Dean Miller

Services for Verna Dean Miller, 92, of Palestine, and formerly of Channelview, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Miller died Monday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 22, 1909 in Martindale to David Lee and Fannie Crunk Hargis.
Mrs. Miller served as a foster parent. She worked as a bookkeeper for department stores and a nursing home in Houston. She was a Sunday school teacher in the Panama Canal and worked for the American Red Cross during World War II. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Miller; a son, Homer Dean Miller; four sisters, Corrine “Aunt Sister” Davis, Willie Mae Bratton, Dorcas Kilough and Rebecca Findlay; and a brother, Elmer Hargis.
She is survived by daughters, Helen Norton of Houston, and Jessie Crutcher and Retta Orr, both of Palestine; 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Condolence calls will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
