Nellie Ruth “Other Granny” Savidge, born Dec. 22, 1933 and was a lifelong resident of Dayton, TX lost her battle with a long illness on September 8, 2012.

Nellie was a life member of the VFW Post #5621 Ladies Auxiliary in Liberty, TX. She was spunky, spirited, outspoken, and loved by many. She enjoyed bingo, gambling, reading, and the Wheel of Fortune.

She is preceded in death by her loving son: Michael Lee Boerman, her parents: Millard F. and Jettie Lee Harrison, and brothers: Ray and Bud Harrison. She leaves behind her spouse of over 30 years: Robert Savidge of Dayton, TX, children: Thom Boerman and wife Anne of MA, Ron Boerman and wife Jan of MI, Scott Boerman of FL, Kelley Trenary and husband Rick of Point Blank, TX, Richard Heath of Dayton, TX, Laura Heath Dorsett of Dayton, TX, brothers: Royce Harrison of TN and Billy Harrison of SC, 11 grandchildren: Ashli Bowen, Amber Dorsett, Amanda Sparks and husband Joshua, Teresa Bowers and husband Travis, Misty Boerman, Marci Smit, Hannah Heath, Aubree Dunbar, Zach Boerman, Rachel Boerman, and Joseph Boerman, 12 great-grandchildren: Sydni Bowen, Bryli Hernandez, Ethan Sparks, Mackenzie Sparks, Brayden Bowers, Brooke Bowers, Colton Boerman, Malaki Boerman, Ben Boerman, Aidan Smit, Eric Dunbar, Leah Dunbar, and Elaina Dunbar, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Granny a.k.a. “Other Granny” will be missed deeply, with heavy hearts we say goodbye “Ladybug”. You can breathe easy now mom.

Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Glover

Wiley Thomas Glover 73 of Daisetta, Texas died Friday September 8, 2012 at East Houston Medical Center of Houston.

Service of remembrance will be held Wednesday September 12, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Central Baptist Church of Daisetta, with interment to follow at Oak Dale cemetery of Daisetta. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday September 11, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the church. A native and lifelong resident of Daisetta, Wiley was an Oilfield worker for Oilfield productions of Daisetta, and a member of Central Baptist Church of Daisetta. He was preceded in death by his wife Royda Lorene Glover and son Doyle Lynn Glover.

Survivors are his sons Jesse Glover and wife Debbie of Galena Park, William Glover of Dayton Brothers Larry Glover of Daisetta, J.D. Glover of Livingston. Sisters Loriane Fregia of Batson, Margie Leblouel of Lake Charles. Grandchildren are Brandon and Bradley Glover, Jodi Bowman, Jami Miller. Great grandchildren are Kayden, Kolten, Ryan Remington Glover, Alyssa Glover, Mason and Abby Filak, Makenzie and Lexi Bowman, Hunter Bowman, Elijah Weaver.

Gossett

Dannie Lucille Gossett, age 79 of Huffman, died on September 7, 2012 in Huffman, TX.

Dannie was born on July 5, 1933 in Dayton, TX, daughter of Harley and Lexie Brown McWhorter. She graduated from Dayton High School in 1952. She was a book keeper for approximately sixty years before retiring. She worked for Waukeshaw Pearce and Big Red Rentals. Dannie was a volunteer where she worked for the AARP, Humble Senior Citizen Center and the May Center in Huffman. She loved quilting and was a quilting instructor at the Humble Senior Citizen Center.

Dannie was preceded in death by her parents, former husband; John J. Moore, husband; James Gossett, daughter; Cecelia Reddick, son-in-laws; Charles Reddick and Karl Knight. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, daughters; Harlana Knight of Pasadena, Sabrina Moore of Leander, sister; Sylvia Lerch of Dallas, granddaughters; Shea McFarland and husband Patrick of Huffman, Saybra Moore of Pasadena, grandsons; Bruce Knight of Pasadena, Jeremy Young of Leander, Garrett Harrup of Leander, great-grandson; Connor McFarland.

A memorial service is set for Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 1:00pm at Grace Community Baptist Church, 8073 FM 1960, Dayton, Texas 77535. Cremation service has been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main, Dayton, TX.

Sopchak

Raymond Sopchak, 76, of Huffman, died Friday, September 7, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Huffman cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday prior to services. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Raymond was born January 14, 1936 in Wallis, to parents; John and Sarah O. Parr Sopchak, a former resident of Deweyville, and has resided in the Huffman area for the past 39 years. He was a veteran of the US Army with service during Korea, a retired rig welder, and former Lions Club member. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and will be remembered as a jack of all trades.

Mr. Sopchak was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Jim, Frank, and Martin Sopchak. He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Patricia Simmons Sopchak of Huffman, daughters: Tammy Holder and husband Dean of Dayton, Sheila Klein and husband Calvin of Klein, and Lisa Sopchak of Huffman, son: Ray Sopchak of Huffman, brother: Lawrence Sopchak of San Felipe, sister: Mary Ruth Buechmann of San Felipe, grandchildren: Chance Holder, Melissa Nichols, Garret Sopchak, and Stacy Sopchak, great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Payne, Bentlee, and Scarlet, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Taylor

Eddie Duane Taylor, age 47 of Kingwood, died September 7, 2012 in Houston, TX.

Eddie was born September 15, 1964 in Liberty, TX, son of Eddie and Shirley Santos Taylor. He attended Daisetta High School where he graduated in 1983. He then attended Sam Houston State University. Eddie was a loan officer for ten plus years, working for Chase Bank and Bank of America. He loved wood working and loved to cook. He will be missed by all.

Eddie was survived by his parents, a sister; Elicia Marberry and husband Fred, two nephews, one niece, two great-nephews, one great-niece and special friend; Tony Allwright. Services for Eddie Duane Taylor will be Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 10am at First Baptist Church in Daisetta. Visitation will be Monday, September 10, 2012 from 5pm to 8pm at the church.

Shipman

Linda Lee Merriman Shipman died on September 6, 2012 in Liberty, TX.

Linda was born on August 5, 1947 in Freeport, TX, daughter of Benjamin Merriman and Sammy Huston Clayborn. She attended Rockdale High School where she graduated in 1965. Linda was retired from the Health Care business where she worked for over forty years as a physical therapist. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Dayton and a member of the VFW Lady’s Auxiliary.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband; Stewart Shipman, daughters; Jolene Kokemoor and husband Corby of Austin, Jolynn Carrol and husband Terry of Colorado Springs, sons; Brandon Shipman of Mont Belvieu, Brady Shipman of Huffman, grandson; Sheridan Kokemoor, granddaughters; Georgia Kokemoor and Carolina Kokemoor.

A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Trinity Baptist Church in Dayton. Cremation services have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 North Main, Dayton, TX.

Rosser

Linda Susanne Rosser, 49 of Thicket, Texas died Friday September 07, 2012 at Harbor Hospital of Beaumont.

She was a member of New Life Assembly of God of Batson. She worked as the Post Master Relief at the Thicket Post Office. She is preceded in death by her father, John D. Rosser, Sr.; step-dad, James Elmo Rosier; grandmother, Jane Davis; uncle Sonney Clark.

She is survived by her mother, Melinda Clark Rosser Rosier of Thicket; brother, John D. Rosser, Jr. and wife Kimberly of Thicket; nephews, Ryan Rosser of Thicket and Dylan Rosser of Thicket.

Her family will recieve friends at New Life Assambly of God of Batson Monday September 10, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A service of Remebrance is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday September 11, 2012 at New Life Assembly of God of Batson, officiated by Reverend Bill Campbell. Burial will follow at Felps cemetery in Thicket.

Serving as pallbearers will be John Rosser, Jr., Ryan Rosser, David Matlock, Charlie Anderson, Robbie Jackson, Shane Buff, Henry Collier, and Bucky Collier. Honorary pallbearers are Dylan Rosser, Bobby Morgan and Jesse Brown.

Slankard

Ethel “Pauline” Slankard, 84, of Batson, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, September 6, 2012.

She was an active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and loved the fellowship with her church family. She worked as a secretary for 33 years for the Hardin and Batson school districts. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.

She is preceded in death by her husband Cecil Slankard, Sr.; daughter, Lynda Slankard; parents, Grady and Ethel Barnhart; brother, W. G. “Sonny” Barnhart.

She is survived by her son Cecil “Buddy” Slankard, Jr. and wife Brenda of Moss Hill; grandsons, Kevin Slankard and wife LeighAnn of Batson, Keith Slankard and wife Lacy of Batson; great grandchildren, Michael Slankard of Batson, Kaleigh Williamson of Dayton, Kaylen Slankard of Batson and Kaden Slankard of Batson.

Her family will receive friends at Faith and Family Funeral Services Chapel on Saturday September 8, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A service of remembrance will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday September 9, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Moss Hill, officiated by Reverend Carlton Bailey. Burial will follow at Guedry cemetery in Batson. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Slankard, Keith Slankard, Robin Slankard, Brandon Slankard, Jason Slankard and Justin Slankard.

Thompson

Michael Dee Thompson, 66, of Dayton, died Monday, September 3, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at the Houston National cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Michael was born January 31, 1946 in San Angelo, to parents; Hubert E. and Seely Mae Ward Thompson, a former resident of LaPorte, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 16 years. He was a graduate of the Stephen F. Austin High School class of 1964, veteran of the US Navy, a machinist for Integrated Power Services, and member of the Open Bible Fellowship. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and most of barbecuing.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents and daughter: Tisha Chantelle Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years: Serella May Thompson of Dayton, daughters: Guenitta Tangie Harclerode and husband Louis of Dayton; Seeley Harris and husband Buddy of Old River, sister: Brenda L. Boyd of Friendswood, grandchildren: Autumn Amber Curtis and husband Matt, Michael Joseph Harclerode, Coy Everett Harclerode, Kaella Chantelle Harris, and Rayna Lynnay Harris, great-grandchildren: Morgan Howard Curtis and Haylie Vane Taylor Curtis, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Judge C.T. “Rusty” Hight

Well loved and respected state district judge and attorney, Judge C.T. “Rusty” Hight, 65, of Dayton died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in Houston, Texas.

Funeral service for Judge Hight will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Dayton. Visitation will be 12 noon until service time at the church. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Texas State cemetery in Austin, Texas. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Carroll Thomas Hight was born December 6, 1946 in Conroe, Texas to parents, Carl and Hazel Edwards Hight. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty County where he was a graduate of Liberty High School Class of 1965, attended Louisiana State University earning a Bachelors of Science and attended South Texas College of Law earning a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. He served on the Dayton Independent School District Board; a director of the Liberty-Dayton Chamber of Commerce; on the Dayton FFA Sales Committee and he was voted Best Elected Official in 2010. Rusty was a member of Gideon’s, a Liberty County Master Gardener and was well known for his award winning Mayhaw Jelly.

Judge Hight was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Judge J.C. “Zeke” Zbranek, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Leah Wisegerber Hight of Dayton; his daughter, Laura Hight of Dayton; his sons, Luke Hight and wife Sarah of Huffman and Ladd Hight of Dayton; two grandsons, Mason and Chance of Huffman; brother, Carl Hight and wife Charlotte of Liberty; sisters: Nelda Zbranek of Devers and Pansy Forshee of Seabrook; special family members, Felicia Zbranek of Houston, Zeb Zbranek of Devers, and Zack Zbranek of Devers; parents-in-law, Lester Ray and Betty Jo Wisegerber of Dayton; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Wilcox

C. H. "Bubba" Wilcox, 75 of Anahuac died on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Anahuac. Interment will follow in Anahuac cemetery. A gathering of Bubba's family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 6th at the funeral home.

Bubba was preceded in death by his parents, C.C. and Hilma Wilcox; granddaughter, Allison. He started working for Wilcox Drug Store after college in 1959 and became the owner in 1972. He loved his family, his friends, golf, and woodworking. Bubba served on the Board of Directors for Anahuac National Bank since 1994. He was a lifelong resident of Anahuac. Bubba graduated from Anahuac High School in 1955 and received a B.S. degree in Pharmacy from the University of Houston in 1959. Bubba also served as president of the Anahuac Promotional Association, served on the Anahuac I.S.D. Board of Trustees. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Anahuac.

Bubba is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elva "Ebbie" Wilcox; daughter, Jeanie Smart and husband Oliver; sons, Dave Wilcox, and wife, Gena, Andy Wilcox and wife, Kay; grandchildren, Curt Wilcox, Taylor Wilcox, Whitney Wilcox Zachry and husband, Joel, Drew Wilcox, Mason Smart; great- granddaughter, Tegan Zachry; sister, Gylene Wilcox and a host of other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Bubba's name to the First United Methodist Church in Anahuac.

Boose

Willie Lloyd Boose age 69 died Monday September 3, 2012 with his beloved family by his side.

Willie was born in Tallapoosa, Alabama December 13, 1943 the son of the late Johnnie Boose and Hattie Bea Wright Boose. Willie attended public schools in Alabama and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He worked for many years as laborer for Brown and Root as well worked as an auto mechanic. Willie was also a member of the Usher Board for Mt. Rose Baptist Church.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Maxine Boose of Dayton, daughter Jo Lynn Domain of Ames, son Ricky Williams of Tallassee, daughter Willie Jean Mitchell of Dayton, son Frederick Booth of Hardin, and a sister Patricia White of Liberty. In addition he leaves seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday September 8, 2012 at 11AM at Mt. Rose Baptist Church, with visitation to be held one hour prior to service, burial to follow in Wells cemetery. Allison Funeral Service, 1101 N. Travis has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Chapman

Joseph Wayne Chapman, 71 of Dayton died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown with his family by his side.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 6, 2012 in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow in Palms Memorial Park. A gathering of Joe's family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 5th at the funeral home.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary Jones Chapman; brothers, R.H. Chapman, Charles Chapman, John Wesley Lambert; sisters, Dorothy Mullins and Jennifer Chapman. Joe worked for many years as a pipe fitter for Local Union 211. Joe loved fishing and being in the garden.

Joe is survived by his wife of 47 years, Leona Utt Chapman; daughter, Renee' Ballard and husband, Brian; son, Joseph Chapman Jr.; grandchildren, Joseph Ryan Chapman, Kassie Chapman, and Laiken Chapman; great-grandsons, Lane and Jacob Mitchell; sisters, Katherine Sampson and Florence Cameron; special friends, James Stovall and Lisa Chapman; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
