Creel

James “Audie” Aubrey Creel, age 86, died Tuesday at his home.

He was born in Liberty, Texas, July 29, 1922 the son of the late O.Z. Creel and Emma LeBlanc Creel. He was a graduate of Liberty High School where he played football. He went on to attend Lamar University where he also played football and was named Beaumont Enterprise MVP of 1942. Audie was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Air Force first as a Aviation Cadet and then later as a aerial gunner and photographer. He was the owner and operator with his wife of Liberty Jewelers for over forty years. He wed in Beaumont in 1944 to his beloved wife of sixty-four years Jane Jordan Creel of Liberty.

Audie was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Sharon Ann Singleton.

He leaves behind his wife, Jane J. Creel of Liberty, daughter Donna Creel of Atlanta, Georgia, Son-in-law Wesley Singleton of Atlanta, GA, grand daughter Dani Cheek, and great granddaughter Jordan Cheek. As well as a very special caregiver Cynthia Thompson.

A graveside service will be held 2 pm Thursday at the Catholic cemetery, Liberty. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made in Audie’s memory to the First United Methodist Church of Liberty.

Cornelius

Kenneth D. “Jack Rabbit” Cornelius, 77, of Pearland, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Colonial Oaks Assisted Living Center in Sugarland.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2009, at the Central Assembly of God in Pasadena with burial following at Magnolia Park cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, at the Central Assembly of God. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Kenneth was born January 7, 1932 in McAdoo, to parents; John W. and Lou Ella Baker Cornelius, a former resident of Dayton and has resided in the Pearland area for the past two years. He was a veteran of the US Army with service during Korea, a retired greens superintendent for the City of Houston at the Glenbrook Golf Course for 28 years, member of the Assembly of God Church and Beefmaster United, and enjoyed ranching Beefmaster cattle, hunting, and fishing.

Mr. Cornelius was preceded in death by his parents, grandson: James Bardwell, and brothers: Virgil and Tan Cornelius. He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Lois Ussery Cornelius of Pearland, son: Mitchell Cornelius of Deer Park, daughters: Tammy Granberry and husband Ronny of Deer Park and Linda Bardwell and husband Hollis of Pearland, grandchildren: Kristen Cornelius of Denton, Cheryl DeLaRosa and husband Bevo of Denton, Nathan Cornelius of Santa Barbara, CA, Michelle Garcia and husband Charlie of Pearland, Michelle Gonzales and husband John of Pasadena, Amy Sproat and husband Jon of Seabrook, and Aaron Granberry of Pasadena, great-grandchildren: Ramiro Tapia, Jr., Isaiah DeLaRosa, Aryal DeLaRosa, Sophia DeLaRosa, Chanda Garcia, Austin Garcia, Shay Garcia, Morgan McDonald, Gianna Gonzales, Cassidy Sproat, and Chase Sproat, sister: Laverne Klatt of Lubbock, brothers: J.C. “Poogy” Cornelius of Marble Falls and Joe Cornelius of OR, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Smart

James Earl Smart, 71, of Liberty, Texas, died early Monday morning, June 1, 2009.

He was born on August 31, 1937 in Liberty, Texas to Aubrey and Alma Smart. James was a Navy veteran that served on the USS John W. Thompson from 1955 until 1959. He loved to fish and will be missed by all who knew him.

James is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Royce Smart. He is survived by his daughter, Tami Reyes of Angleton; brothers, Charles D. Smart and wife Kelly of Liberty, Oliver Smart and wife Jeanie of Anahuac, and Aubrey Smart of Liberty; sisters, Wanda Wesch of Lufkin and Kathleen Blackburn of Liberty; sister-in-law, Jean Smart of Liberty; four grandchildren, Mitchell Reyes, Alex Reyes, Joshua Reyes and Victoria Reyes; four great-grandchildren, Laila Reyes, Alize Reyes, Aaliyah Reyes, and Arielle Reyes; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from six until eight o’clock in the evening Thursday, June 4th at Allison Funeral Service. A service of remembrance will be on Friday, June 5th at ten o’clock in the morning at Allison Funeral Service with interment to follow in Fairlawn cemetery.

Arrangements for James have been entrusted to Allison Funeral Service 1101 N Travis St Liberty, Texas 77575.

Myers

Maudie A. Ellingburg Myers, 77, of Cleveland, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at the Odyssey Healthcare Center in Conroe.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the Pace-Stancil memorial Rest Gardens with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Maudie was born February 7, 1932 in Cloverhill, MS, to parents; Lonnie and Cordie Fee Ellingburg.

Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by her parents and husband: Robert Monty Myers. She is survived by her daughter: Darlene Stout and husband Steve, grandchildren: Steven and wife Rieanna Stout, Kristel and husband Bryon McDaniel, Randy Stout and Keith Stout, great-grandchildren: Blair Stout, Gavin Stout, Madalyn McDaniel, and Mason McDaniel, sisters: JoAnn Mann, Janie Colvin, and Betty Jean and husband Terry, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Baham

Evelyn Rogers Baham, 85, of Anahuac, Texas, died Sunday May 31, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Beaumont.

She was born on October 19, 1923 in Athens, Alabama to Grover and Birdie Rogers. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac. Evelyn will be remembered as a strong, compassionate and independent woman. She loved art, sewing, music and fishing.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie L. Baham; three sisters; and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Alicia Ivy and husband Bart of Prattville, AL; son, Roger Baham and wife Becky of Anahuac; two grandchildren, Kyle and Travis Ivy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from five until eight o'clock in the evening Tuesday, June 2nd at Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. A service of remembrance will be held at ten o'clock in the morning Wednesday, June 3rd at First Baptist Church of Anahuac with burial to follow in Anahuac cemetery.

Arrangements for Evelyn have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home 1201 S Main St Anahuac, Texas 77514.

Darby

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rose Mary Darby, 77, of Dayton, Texas, on Friday, June 5, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Dayton, Texas at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Father, Jim McClintock, Pastor, celebrant, with burial in Palms Memorial cemetery, Dayton, Texas.

A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, she was a domestic worker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She died, Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Houston Hospice after an illness.

Visitation will be held Friday morning, 9:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.

She is survived by three sons: Joseph M. Cormier, Jr. of Lafayette, Louisiana, McKinley C. Darby and Dalton J. Darby Jr., both of Dayton; two daughters: Marval A. Harris of Humble, Johnette M. Hubert of Houston, stepdaughter: Pauline Simpson of Detroit, Michigan; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pinon

Ramon and Paula Pinon, of Conroe, died Friday, May 29, 2009. Ramon was born April 18, 1958 in Morelos Michuarah, Mexico to parents: Gudello Pinon and Felipa Tinoco Pinon. Paula was born June 26, 1962 in Timinal Guerrero, Mexico to parents: Albino Gonzalez and Sofia Arrollo Gonzalez. They were member of the Proyecto Libertad and the Lakewood Church.

Services for Mr. & Mrs. Pinon will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Cleveland. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2009 at the funeral home chapel.

Mr. & Mrs. Pinon were survived by their sons: Javier Pinon & wife Edith, Ramon Pinon, Jr., Martin Pinon & Christine, Daniel Pinon & wife Hope, Jose Luis Pinon, & Ulises Able Pinon; daughters: Patricia Pinon & husband Julio, Nancy Avila & husband Arnulso, Janet Pinon, Jacqueline Pinon, & Esmeralda Maria Pinon; grandchildren: Javier, Jr., Lyett, Eli, Evean, Aron, Crystal, Adrian, Jada & two on the way.

Cox

Doris Bell Cox, 84, of Cleveland, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Memorial Medical Center, in Livingston.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland with burial following at Pace-Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens. Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Doris was born September 29, 1924 in Kemp, to parents; William E. and Ellie Mae Tool Bell.

Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Charles L. Cox, brother: Horace Bell, and sister: Zelda Henderson. She is survived by her son: James Ault, granddaughter: Andrea D. Pope and husband William, great-granddaughters: Cheyenne Pope, Alicia Pope, and Bonnie Gayle Pope, brother: Willard Bell, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Frels

Robert Lee Frels died May 31, 2009 on a beautiful Sunday Morning surrounded by the whole family, pastor and the pastor’s wife.

The Memorial service will be held on June 2, 2009 at 7 P.M. at Lake Houston Church of the Nazarene, 5616 FM 1960, Humble. There will be a time for visitation from 6-7 P.M.

Robert was born to parents Edwin Henry Frels and Loella Sophia Ludwig on August 15, 1928 in Houston, TX. He was married to Hazel Lee Catchings Frels. He was retired from the Aldine ISD Maintenance Dept. where he worked for many years. He was a member of the Lake Houston Church of the Nazarene.

He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife; son, James Robert Frels and his wife, Carolyn Ann; daughter, Carolyn Lee Hollingsworth and husband Kenneth O. Hollingsworth. Also surviving are grandchildren, Carly Renee and James Matthew Frels, Stephanie Lynn Lamb and husband, Wayne Alan Joey Pigford, Jeff and Lilly Pigford, Tanya and Brian Clark, and Jessica and Kelly Green; great-grandchildren; David Alan and James Marshall Lamb and Calie Green, Justin, Cody, Zachry and Madison.

Arrangements were under the direction of Allison Funeral Service 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, Texas

Losier

Orville Lee “Yank” Losier Jr., 39, of Baytown, died May 28, 2009 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown, Texas.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 1, 2009, at 10:00am., at Sterling Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas with Reverend Danny Biddy officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be in on Sunday, May 31, 2009, from 5pm until 8pm at Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Dayton, Texas.

Orville was born November 29, 1969 in Baytown, TX. to parents, Orville Lee Losier Sr. and Joanne Bishop Losier. He had a great personality. He was carefree, a jokester, prankster. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports and especially spending time with his family. He played semi-pro football for a while with the Huffman Maulers. He was married to his high school sweetheart for 19 years until his death. He was a good provider, a loving husband, father and son.

He is preceded in death by his father. Orville is survived by his wife, Joelle Morrison Losier; son, Joshua Lee Losier; daughter, Megan Deann Losier; mother, JoAnn Losier; mother-in-law, Deidei Parks and husband Jack; father-in-law, Jerry Morrison and wife Denice; brother, Joe Losier and wife Julene; sisters, Janet Page and husband Randy, Nikki Carter, Missy Schuman, and Jodie Losier and her companion Fred Blankenship; brothers-in-law, Ron Morrison and wife Lisa and Rodger Morrison and wife Loy; sister-in-law Julie Berry and husband W.H. numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Arrangements were under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home 602 N. Main St., Dayton, Texas.

Thibodeaux

Chap Dennis Thibodeaux, 74, of Liberty, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Monroe Fregia cemetery in Liberty with burial following thereafter. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Chap was born May 14, 1935 in Liberty, to parents; Willis and Oveena Blanchard Thibodeaux, and has resided in the Liberty area throughout his life. He was employed as a master electrician for L. E. Myers for 30 years and for the last 29 years for Chapman Mobile Homes. He enjoyed restoring old vehicles, flowers and gardening, and carpentry.

Mr. Thibodeaux was preceded in death by his parents, great-granddaughter: Hannah Holbrook, and brothers: Willis, Jr., Ophil, Roy, Noah, and Leo Thibodeaux. He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Nadine Fregia Thibodeaux of Liberty, daughter: Carolyn Fullbright and husband David of Baytown, sons: Kenneth Nugent and wife Rose of Liberty and Michael Nugent and wife Scotty of Liberty, grandchildren: Michelle Holbrook, Tricia Behar, Crystal Key, Kenneth “Fred” Nugent, and Michael C. “Mikie” Nugent, nine great-grandchildren, brothers: Joe Thibodeaux of Houston, Phil Thibodeaux of Sour Lake, and Phillip Thibodeaux of Liberty, sisters: Lillie Collins of Liberty, Juanita Moore of Liberty, Anna Fregia of Batson, Caroline Gore of AR, and Jean Berryhill of Daisetta, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bennett

Joseph Cory Bennett, 19, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009.

He was born January 10, 1990 in Houston, Texas. Cory was a 2008 graduate of Cleveland High School where he was a member of the Royal Braves Band. He enjoyed playing Little League Baseball and being a Boy Scout with Troop 95. He graduated from the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice Academy for Correctional Officers in Huntsville, Texas on May 9, 2009 and was employed by the Hightower Unit in Dayton, Texas.

Services for Cory will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Eric Grosner officiating.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2009 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Cory was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather: Macario Rodriguez, Sr. and is survived by his mother: Melinda Bennett of Cleveland; maternal grandmother: Rosa Rodriguez of Cleveland; his beloved girlfriend: Janet Castro & little Jasmine; aunts: Gracie Ray of Austin, Eva Witcher and husband Mike of Nacogdoches; uncles: Daniel Rodriguez of Mont Belvieu, Marcario Rodriguez, Jr. and wife Lisa, and Willie Castillo and wife Joan of Austin; also numerous cousins, and other family members.

Ownbey

R. D. Ownbey, 86, of Liberty, Texas, died Thursday, May 28, 2009.

He was born on June 6, 1922 in Colgate, Oklahoma. R. D. was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1945 after serving his country for four years. He then reenlisted in the National Guard in 1950 and served until 1953. During his time in the service he was awarded 3 bronze stars. He was a finish carpenter by trade but he loved to fish and bowl when he could. He was an active member of Life Fellowship Church in Liberty. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

R. D. was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters and 3 brothers. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Ownbey; daughters, Nancy Pratter and Bobbi Ann Brazell, both of the Dallas area; step-daughters, Patricia Davis and husband Frank of Liberty and Carolyn Moore and husband Billy of Tiago, LA; step-son, James Arthur Thomas and wife Susan of New Orleans, LA; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be from five until eight o’clock in the evening, Friday, May 29th in the chapel of Sterling Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at Life Fellowship Church in Liberty at two o’clock in the afternoon, Saturday, May 30th with interment to follow in Guedry cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Sterling Funeral Home, 602 N Main St., Dayton, Texas 77535.

Butler

Josie Louvine Butler, age 83, of Liberty, TX, died Wednesday May 27, 2009 in a Kingwood Hospital.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at the First Assembly of God Church, 2512 Grand Avenue, Liberty, TX. At 2:00 P.M., with the Reverend John A. Bartlett officiating with burial in the Cooke Memorial cemetery, Liberty, TX. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis Street, Liberty, TX from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Josie was born on April 13, 1926, in Tyler County, TX to Simon Brady Durham and Bertie Lee Herndon.

Josie worked in the food service in the Liberty area and enjoyed sewing, needle work and drawing. She was an active member of the Liberty Senior Citizen Center, and she was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Liberty for many years.

Josie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, E. R. Butler; daughter, Wanda Kucha; brother Grady Durham, and sister, Myrtle Breckenridge. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law; Sharon Kay and Norman Worley of Kingwood, TX; three sons and daughters-in-law, Eddy Ray and Kathy Butler of Kingsland, TX, Ricky Lynn and Kathy Butler of Dayton, TX, and Randy Lloyd and Brenda Butler of Dayton, TX; sister, May Ola Collies of Buna, TX, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Brady and Flora Nell Durham and James and Anita Durham, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
