DAINGERFIELD - Graveside services for Vera Elsie Morton, 81, of Lone Star, formerly of Tatum, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Harris Chapel cemetery in Tatum with the Rev. Rick Monds officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home of Daingerfield. Mrs. Morton was born Nov. 27, 1916, in Wolf Lake, Pa. She died March 5, 1998, in Lone Star. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Morton. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lois and W.P. "Dub" Headrick of Lone Star; her granddaughters and their husbands, Madalyn and Homer May of Coatsville, Pa., Cindy and Danny Bockmon of Daingerfield and Tracey Bardwell of Lone Star; a grandson and his wife, Harry "Bubba" and Bethany Headrick of Longview; nine great-grandchild- ren; and a great-great-grandchild. The family will receive friends at their home today, March 6.

Services for A.W. Nelson, 61, of Longview will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carol Thomas Brooks officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Nelson died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at his residence. Mr. Nelson was born Jan. 7, 1937, and was a member of the First Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Nelson; a son, Bradley Nelson of Dallas; and his stepdaughters, Patricia Sheffield of Tyler and Linda June Brown of Corsicana.

James H. Pierson III
DALLAS - James H. Pierson III, born March 11, 1958, passed away on March 1, 1998, in Dallas. Mr. Pierson, an account representative with Southwestern Bell, is survived by his mother, Ramona LeAnne Pierson of Midland; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Richard Driver of Longview and Janet and Todd Kelley of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Kim Pierson of Fort Worth; his grandmothers, Alice Marie Phipps of Midland and Mildred Pierson of Forsyth, Ga.; three nieces, Rachel Driver of Longview, Madison Kelley of Bryan and Meagan Pierson of Fort Worth; and two nephews, Richie Driver of Longview and Nathan Kelley of Bryan. Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Lee Park in Dallas. The family requests that in lieu of floral tributes donations be made in James' name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 560089, Dallas, TX 75356-0089, or to the AIDS Resource Center, 2701 Reagan St., Dallas, TX 75219. GILMER - Services for Gustine Hill Shaw, 85, of Gilmer will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Glen Dunaway and Brother Wilton Jones officiating. Burial will be in Sand Hill cemetery. Mrs. Shaw died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, in Gilmer. She was born Sept. 16, 1912, in Upshur County, where she lived all her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenza Shaw, on March 13, 1997; two sisters, Felice Jones and O'Bera Jenkins; and two brothers, G.C. Hill Jr. and Alene Hill. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Jim Gatlin of Bastrop and Angie and David Elwood of White Oak; five grandchildren, Michaelle Robard- ey, Port Robardey Jr., Millette Robardey Upchurch, Christopher Shaw Elwood and Alecia Dawn Elwood; great-grandchildren, Mia Hall and Blake Upchurch; and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jerry Putnam, Eddie Shaw, David Humblin, Max Hill, Pete Williams and Bobby Royce Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Berry, Leroy Guest, Glen Parson, Forest Nugent, Mitch Archer, Hugh Hamilton, Curtis Shaw, Vernon Tevebaugh, David Tevebaugh, Ronald Tevebaugh, Ellis Hagler, Verl Hagler, Berle D. Shaw, Ben Bane, Truman Johnson, J.B. Hill and Buddy Hill. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today, March 5, at the funeral home.

John Adolph Smith
Services for John Adolph Smith, 80, of Lake Devernia will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. J. Prentis McGee and Dr. James Kirkland officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery. Mr. Smith died Thursday, March 5, 1998, in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Van Zandt County and had been a resident of Longview for 35 years. Mr. Smith was a member of the White Oak Baptist Church and a retired chef. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Bettye Smith; a stepson, Ricky Lynn Allen; a special sister-in-law, Patty Sue Cobb, all of Lake Devernia; four grandchildren, Scotty Allen, Bryan Allen, Shellie Voight and James Allen; three great-grandchildren, Justin Allen, Austin Allen and Blake Voight; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials be made to Sabine Valley Mental Health and Mental Retardation, 1141 N. 10th, Longview, TX 75601. Charles F. Spencer
Services for Charles F. Spencer, 80, of Lewisville will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 6, at Lakeview Mausoleum Chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Spencer passed away Wednesday, March 4, 1998, in Lewisville after a lengthy illness. Mr. Spencer was born on Dec. 10, 1917, in Manhattan, N.Y. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from LeTourneau in 1983. He is survived by daughter Betti Talbert of Lewisville; his sons, Robert Spencer of Garland, Charles Branch of Marshall, Kenneth Branch of Longview and Jimmy Branch of Hallsville; daughters Mary Richardson of Florida, Shirley Fields of Hallsville and Anita Hulen of Oklahoma; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Shirley Spencer, in 1977.

Burial will be in Murvaul cemetery. Mr. Downing died Sunday in Carthage. A lifetime resident of Panola County, he dwas a carpenter for Lovell Kelley Building and a Baptist.

Wilbur Waddell Green
Funeral services for Wilbur Waddell Green, 82, of Longview will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lamar Pittman officiating. Burial will be in Little Mound cemetery. He died Saturday in the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Shreveport. Mr. Green, a Jehovah's Witness, had been a resident of Longview since 1971, and had retired from Gladewater Independent School District. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernice. His survivors include, his sister, Floy Faye Jeffries of Calif.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Burgin of Longview and a niece and nephew. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Roy L. Hair Sr.
GILMER - Services for Roy L. Hair Sr., 85, of Gilmer will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Methodist Church of Gilmer with the Rev. Bob Webb and the Rev. Wayne Spanhank officiating. Burial will be in Gilmer City cemetery. Arrangements are by Croley Funeral Home of Gilmer. Mr. Hair died Monday at a Longview hospital. Mr. Hair, a lifetime resident of Upshur County, established Roy Hair Used Parts in Gilmer in 1946 and was a retired bus driver from Gilmer schools. He was a member of the First United Methodist Churchs' Methodist Men Asbury Class and a member of the Bethesday Masonic Lodge for 58 years. He married Marvel Irene Stolle in 1971, in Gilmer. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy L. Hair Jr. Survivors include his wife, Marvel Hair of Gilmer, a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas L. and Betty Hair of Spring Hill; a daughter and son-in-law, Rosa Hair Gray and Jerry of Henderson; five grandchildren, Robert Bessette, Cathy Reeves, Mesa King, all of Longview, Brenda Edney of Kilgore and Rickey Bessette of Longview; three sisters, Debbie Cel Glezen of Henderson, Patti Nichols of Palestine and Donna Bullion of Coeburn, Va. and 11 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers are Robert Bessette, Rickey Bessette, Bill King, Bill Reeves, Clifton Edney, Mike Glezen and Don Nichols. Honorary pallbearers are Asbury sunday school class. Mr. Hair was a well respected member of the community. Vistation is 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jack Robert Thompson
LUFKIN - Services for Jack Robert Thompson, 68, of Lufkin will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Valentine officiating. Interment will be in the Narraway cemetery. Mr. Thompson died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at his residence. He was born Nov. 15, 1929, in West Monroe, La., to the late John Jack Thompson and Ethel Buford Thompson. He had been a resident of Lufkin all of his life and had worked in law enforcement for 14 years. Mr. Thompson retired as a supervisor with Champion International after 42 years of service. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and a Baptist. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his first wife, Lou Thompson, in 1992, and by a son, Bobby Thompson in 1988. Survivors include his wife, Dottie Thompson of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and James Crawford of Huntington, Linda and Vince Baker of Huntsville, Jackie and Bubba Powers of Lufkin and Angie Mitchell of Diboll; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Karen Thompson of Houston, Bo and Karen Thompson of League City and Mark Thompson of Lufkin; 25 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Debbie and Cal Morris and Donny Wesberry, all of Daingerfield, Tony and Delores Vercimak of Casper, Wyoming, and Dana Glass of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Louise Thompson of Alvin; and brother-in-law, charles Brown of Beaumont. Pallbearers will be Cal Morris, Dalton Seale, Vince Baker, Wheel Crawford, Ken Seale and Bubba Powers. Honorary pallbearers will be Angelina County Deputy Reserves. Memorials may be made to the Hospice in the Pines, 116 E. Raguet, Lufkin, TX, 75904.

Sanford E. 'Tub' Wilson
Graveside services for Sanford E. "Tub" Wilson, 75, of Longview will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Chalk Hill cemetery with Chaplain Art Warfield officiating. Arrangements are by Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson died Sunday in a local hospital. Moving to Longiew in 1980 from Waco, he was a member of the Chalk Hill Community Church and a retired construction worker. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his wife, Zana, in 1976. He is survived by his sister, Lina Garrett of Chireno and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Michael Erwin Alexander
Services for Michael Erwin Alexander, 53, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kevin L. Ward officiating. Welch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Elmira Chapel cemetery. Mr. Alexander died Monday, March 9, 1998, in a local hospital. He was born May 29, 1944, in Overton and was a lifetime resident of the Longview area. Mr. Alexander was a member of the Spring Hill Lions Club and Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and head usher. Since August he had worked with Gregg County as a probation officer; he formerly worked with the Sabine Valley Mental Health Mental Retardation. He retired as captain from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. Mr. Alexander is survived by his wife, Barbara Tekell Alexander of Longview; one daughter, Cynthia Alexander of Arlington, Texas; one son, Clinton Alexander of Fort Stewart, Ga.; two brothers, Ben Alexander of Longview and James Alexander of Reston, Va.; and one sister, Carolyn Dobbins of Oklahoma City, Okla. The family requests memorials be made to Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 3501 Elmira Dr., Longview, TX 75605. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today, March 11, at Welch Funeral Home.
