John Kimbrough
Services for John Kimbrough, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church with the Revs. Micahel Donaldson and Daniel Keys officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Mr. Kimbrough died March 21 at Cartmell Home for the Aged.
He was born on May 24, 1911 in Palestine to James Vernon Kimbrough and Josephine Edwards Kimbrough.
Mr. Kimbrough attended Jerusalem public school. He was a life member of Bethel AME Church, serving in various capacities including superintendent of Sunday school, assistant superintendent, choir member, steward, janitor, and grounds keeper.
He was a retired bus driver with Palestine ISD. He married Fannie Mae Kelley on Jan. 17, 1932.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001; sisters, Joella Benneth and Iree Kimbrough; brothers, Richard Kimbrough, Carson Kimbrough, J.V. Kimbrough, Ben Kimbrough and Vernon Kimbrough; and a great-granddaughter.
Mr. Kimbrough is survived by children, Merlene Williams of Palestine and Jesse Kimbrough of Dallas; a sister, Ester Mae Harris of Dallas; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Cary Albertine Duncan Hyde
Services for Cary Albertine Duncan Hyde, 98, of Crockett, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew AME Church in Crockett with the Rev. Billy Chavers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Crockett under the direction of Emanuel Funeral Home.
Ms. Hyde died Sunday at East Texas Medical Center in Crockett.
She was born on June 11, 1903 in Crockett to Tommy and Susie McKenney Duncan.
Ms. Hyde received her education in the Crockett public schools. She was a member of St. Andrew AME Church in Crockett. She was married to Jimmy Hyde.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Dewey Holley, Jay Holley and Bush Holley; and a son, Mack Earl Hyde.
Ms. Hyde is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Wyatt of Crockett; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lucille Pettiette
Services for Lucille Pettiette, 76, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Holcombe and the Revs. Ron Sloan and Rick Dees officiating. Burial will be at the Rock Church Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Pettiette died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 8, 1925, in the Blackfoot community to James Lee Thornton and Doris Wardell Thornton.
Mrs. Pettiette was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She taught the women’s Sunday school class and was active in all aspects of Southside Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Pettiette was preceded in death by her son, Charles Pettiette.
She is survived by her husband, J.L. Pettiette of Palestine; son, Lester Pettiette of Palestine; sisters, Essie Henry of Blackfoot and Dessie Cross of Athens; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Sanders, Marvin Jenkins, Pat Henderson, Dustin Harrod, J.H. Isabell and Pat Henry.

Mrs. Young died Tuesday at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.
She was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Fairfield.
Mrs. Young was a housewife and a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church of Fairfield.
She is survived by daughter, Loretta Anderson of Fairfield; son, Roger Young III; brother, James Newman of Fairfield; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Julia Faye Dodds Whitlock
Services for Julia Faye Dodds Whitlock, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel of Buffalo with the Rev. Gilford Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Siloam Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Buffalo.
Mrs. Whitlock died Monday at East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield.
She was born in Buffalo to Hiram Jackson and Gracie Dodds.
Mrs. Whitlock resided in Fort Worth for 40 years and worked in assembly for a food products company. She had lived in Buffalo for the last year. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by son, Bobby H. Cox of Prinston; daughter, Susan Gothard of Fort Worth; brother, Ray Dodds of Fairfield; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Daniel C. Allen
Services for Daniel C. Allen, 58, of Taylor, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in Anderson County.
Mr. Allen died Wednesday at his residence.
He was born Sept. 8, 1943, in Palestine to James and Leta Stovall Allen.
Mr. Allen moved to Taylor in 1989 as the executive director for the Texas Water Utilities Association, a 9,200-member training organization based in Austin. He held the position until his death.
He was actively involved in the water utilities industry and TWUA for more than 25 years and was the utilities director for the City of Athens from 1983 to 1989. He was a member of the association’s 25 year Club, Double A Club and a trustee of the V.M. Ehlers Scholarship Foundation. He served the association as president of the Central East Texas District in 1987, president of the Cedar Creek District in 1988, and chairman of the East Texas Regional School in 1988.
Mr. Allen was actively involved with the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission, sitting on numerous committees related to the water utilities industry. He was an active member of the American Water Works Association — Texas Section and the Water Environment Association of Texas.
He taught seminars at Texas A&M University each year. He was a member of Highway 95 Church of Christ in Taylor, former minister of Gray’s Chapel Church of Christ in Bois d’Arc, and served the United States Air Force.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his father; and step-father, Clifton Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Reed Allen of Taylor; daughter, Leigh Ayn Silvey of Athens; mother, Louise Williams of Rowlett; brothers, Jimmy Allen of Palestine, Ralph Williams of Sugarland, Jim Williams and Cliff Williams; sisters, Linda Knous of Rowlett, Fran Williams of Hawaii; and one granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Eric Knous, Michael Knous, Michael Grasty, Clayton Churchman, Dustin Churchman, Patrick Bailey, Chris Cox and Matthew Hampton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Cochran, Sam Warrington, and past and present officers of the Texas Water Utilities Association.

Scotty Wayne Griffin
Services for Scotty Wayne Griffin, 55, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Montalba Baptist Church with the Revs. Allen Wiseman and Rod Skelton officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Griffin died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 29, 1946 in Newport, Ky.
Mr. Griffin was a resident of Palestine for 14 years. He was retired from the U.S. Army and was currently working with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at the Beto Unit.
He was a member of the Montalba Baptist Church.
Mr. Griffin served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1987, retiring as an E-6 Staff Sergeant. He served in Europe, Thailand and Korea.
He was preceded in death by his natural parents, Chester and Evelyn Chandler Herthel; adoptive parents, Elba Griffin and Versie Murrell Griffin Arnold; and stepfather, Byron Arnold.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, “Simone” Soh Iserat Griffin of Palestine; son, Byron Scott Griffin of Dallas; daughter, Linda Griffin Wilbanks of Montalba; sister, Beverly Fuson of Loveland, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the honor guard from Fort Hood.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Roy Lee Pettiette
Roy Lee Pettiette, 94, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Rev. Robley Soileau officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Pettiette died Saturday at Cartmell Home for the Aged in Palestine.
He was born Nov. 19, 1907, in Anderson County to Will and Della Gatewood Pettiette.
Mr. Pettiette had lived most of his life in Blackfoot in Anderson County. He was a member of Memorial Christian Church. He retired from Tide Water Oil Company in 1962 and was active in the ranching and cattle business.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Loyd Pettiette and Elmo Pettiette; sisters, Lula Rosser and Ott Price.
Mr. Pettiette is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alice Pettiette of Palestine; son, Roy G. Pettiette of Blackfoot; brother, J.L. Pettiette of Palestine; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Tom Pettiette, John Pettiette, Joe Pettiette, Richard Welch, Raymond Lively, Vernon Jackson, Victor Lively and C.W. Horton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Lansford, J.H. Isabell, Harold Brown and nephews.

Roy Mays
Services for Roy Mays, 46, of Slocum, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Slocum Union Church with the Revs. Todd Chapman and Jimmy Petty officiating. Burial will be in Crawford Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mr. Mays died Sunday afternoon at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 7, 1955, in Palestine to John Elward Mays and Juanita Murphey Mays.
Mr. Mays was a Methodist. He graduated from Maypearl High School in 1973 and had been employed as a truck driver for T. Byrd Cattle Company.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Judith Butler Mays, on Nov. 9, 1992; his father, on July 25, 1985; and a sister Cindy Mays, on Jan. 6, 1987.
Mr. Mays is survived by his wife, Kim Gray Mays of Slocum; his mother; daughters, Melody Holloway of Houston and Cindy Jo Mays of Slocum; sons, Clayton Mays and John Jacob, both of Slocum; sister Jenny Cunningham of Slocum; brothers Johnny, David, Danny and Ronnie, all of Slocum; and one granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Byrd, Danny Jackson, Willy Hilliard, John Mack Matthews, Roy Stanley, Gary Langston, Denny DeMoss and Tommy Allen.

Mrs. Goodman was born Jan. 16, 1927 in Fairfield.
She died Sunday at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
Mrs. Goodman was a member of Ward Prairie Baptist Church and was co-owner of This & That Gift Shop in Fairfield.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Annice Calkins.
Mrs. Goodman is survived by her husband, Bill Goodman of Fairfield; daughter, Annette Hebert of Baton Rouge, La.; son, Phillip Calkins of Baton Rouge, La.; brothers, Tommy Willard Jr. of Fairfield and David Willard of Montana; sisters, Helen Campbell and Ann Milligan, both of Fairfield; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joe Campbell, Jack Badertscher, Dyke Hebert, DeWayne Milligan, Scott Jackson and Eric Minze.
