CLARKSVILLE,  Texas - Edna Leverett, 72, of Clarksville died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in Paris,  Texas.

Arrangements are pending with Clarksville Funeral Home.

HARRY GORDON

Harry C. Gordon, 81, of Los Fresnos,  Texas, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in a Harlingen,  Texas, hospital.

Arrangements are pending with East Funeral Home, Moores Lane.

THELMA FARRIS

DeKALB,  Texas - Thelma Farris, 94, of DeKalb died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in a Texarkana hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Bates - Rolf Funeral Home.

LISSIE PHILLIPS

Lissie Mae Phillips, 74, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, in a local hospital.

Ms. Phillips was born Feb. 13, 1929, in Claiborn Parish, La. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two children, Leon Malone and Dorothy Malone.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter - in - law, Jimmie Malone and Curtis Malone of Texarkana and Robert and Pearl Malone of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, Flora Cullors of Longview,  Texas, and Evonne Armstrong of Homer, La.; 12 grandchildren; and a number of great - grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. James  Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens under direction of Richardson Hill Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

FLORENCE PATE

Florence L. Pate, 88, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in a local nursing home.

Mrs. Pate was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Fouke, Ark. She was an employee of Brown Miller Pickle Plant and a Pentecostal. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Huber, Vick McKnight and Arvie Pate; one daughter; and four sons.

Survivors include three daughters, Florence Pauline Morphew, Jean Bradshaw and Barbara McKnight of Texarkana; one daughter - in - law, Peggy McKnight; 16 grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; and 10 great - great - grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at East Funeral Home, Downtown, Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Rocky Mound Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family will be at 352 Horseshoe Loop off Highway 59.

KIMBERLY GARRETT

NEW BOSTON,  Texas - Kimberly Diane Garrett, 35, of New Boston died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at her home.

Miss Garrett was born Nov. 11, 1968, in Texarkana,  Texas. She was employed with Happy Days Day Care Center, a girls softball coach and a member of Old Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, Royce and Star Garrett of Hooks,  Texas; one brother and sister - in - law, Randell and Stephanie Garrett of DeKalb,  Texas; her grandfather, Clayton Garrett of DeKalb; three nieces, Kaylynn Garrett, Kelsey Garrett and Marissa Garrett of DeKalb; one nephew, Jameel  Washington of Maud,  Texas; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Boston First Baptist Church with the Rev. Willard Land officiating. Burial will be in Old Salem Cemetery under direction of Bates - Rolf Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family will be at the Clayton Garrett residence, FM Road 1840 west of New Boston.

Memorials may be made to the Kim Garrett Fund at Red River Credit Union, 128 N. Ellis, New Boston,  Texas.

RUPERT ARNOLD

Rupert A. Arnold, 93, of Maud,  Texas, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, in a local hospital.

Mr. Arnold was born May 16, 1910, in Carbondale,  Texas. He was retired from Red River Army Depot, a member of Maud United Methodist Church, a charter member and former Quartermaster for VFW Post 8396, a charter member of Maud Gun Club and Maud Lion's Club, a member of New Boston,  Texas, American Legion and a World War II Air Force veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Novell Holley Arnold in 1982; and one stepson, Derward Holley in 1993.

Survivors include one stepson and two stepdaughters - in - law, Jerry and Kay Holley of Longmont,  Colo. and Laverne Holley Caudle of Maude; two nieces, Mary Arnold Dickens and Betty Foster of Maud; one great - niece, Gay Ann Wilson of Dallas; two great - nephews, Michael Arnold Foster of Nederland,  Texas, and Sam Dickens Jr. of Maud; one sister - in - law, Wilma Arnold McNish of Maud; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Maud United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joe Whisenant officiating. Burial will be in Center Ridge Cemetery under direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

The family will be at the Mary and Sam Dickens residence, Highway 8 South, Maud.

Memorials may be made to Maud United Methodist Church.

THELMA COLE

Thelma Cole, 62, of Temple,  Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, in a Temple adult care facility.

Arrangements are pending with Chapelwood Funeral Home.

MARJORIE SMITH

ATLANTA,  Texas - Marjorie Smith, 79, of Queen City,  Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, in Queen City.

Ms. Smith was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Nome, Alaska. She was the former county clerk in Stockton,  Calif., a member of Open Door Baptist Church and the treasurer of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, David L. Smith of Ben Loman,  Calif., Arthur J. Smith of Modesto,  Calif., and Alfred C. Smith of Queen City; two daughters, Melanie C. Heard of Atlanta and Teresa Morgan of Modesto; one brother, Arthur McLain of  Washington; two sisters, Caroline Reeder of Nome and Elizabeth Rolaston of North Dakota; and a number of grandchildren, great - grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Open Door Baptist Church, Queen City. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery under direction of Hanner Funeral Service.

KATHERINE HANCOCK

NEW BOSTON,  Texas - Katherine Hancock, 83, of Maud,  Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, in a Texarkana hospital.

Mrs. Hancock was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Hooks,  Texas. She was retired from Maud City Library and a member of Maud First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Hancock; one grandson, Danny Daffern; and one granddaughter, Dusty Hicks.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Atchley of New Boston, Judy Herrera of Lewisville, Ark., and Kathie Foster and Cindy Ragsdale of Hooks; two sons, Paul Hancock of Roseland, La., and David Hancock of Maud; one sister, Lucille Bayless of Goodyear, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; and a number of stepgrandchildren, stepgreat - grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Maud First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery, Simms,  Texas, under direction of Bates - Rolf Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family will be at 814 W. Broadway, Maud.

Memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
