MINNIE VANHOOK

Minnie Mae Vanhook, 93, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, in a local nursing home.

Miss Vanhook was born April 15, 1910, in Junction City, La. She was a housekeeper and a member of Evergreen Baptist Church.

Survivors include three nieces and two nephews - in - law, Lelia Mae Porter of Texarkana and Lillie Mae and Otis Davis and Olivia L. and Vernon Willis of Nash,  Texas; one special friend, Dorothy Braggs Hendrick of Dubach, La.; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hopewell Baptist Church, Dubach, with the Rev. Keith Malone officiating. Burial will be in Fellowship Cemetery under direction of Richardson Hill Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

NICK LOVING

HUGHES SPRINGS,  Texas - Nick Loving, 58, of Hughes Springs died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in a local nursing home.

Mr. Loving was born Nov. 16, 1945, in Gilmer,  Texas. He was the owner of  Texas Oilfield Pipe Services, a Baptist and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Molly Loving of Hughes Springs; two sons and daughters - in - law, Brent and Heather Loving and Mike and Tonia Rogers of Hughes Springs; one daughter and son - in - law, Meredith and Charles Woitas of Daingerfield,  Texas; two sisters, Mayrene Davis of Gilmer,  Texas, and Mary Potts of Longview,  Texas; one granddaughter, Olivia Rogers of Hughes Springs; one sister - in - law, Lilly Loving of Pittsburg,  Texas; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hughes Springs First Baptist Church with the Revs. Mickey Rorex and Bluford Weikel and Dinah McCain officiating. Burial will be in Hughes Springs Cemetery under direction of Reeder - Davis Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Arden Hanes American Legion Post, Hughes Springs,  Texas.

CHARLES OWENS

Charles Murphy Owens, 83, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in a local hospital.

Mr. Owens was born June 24, 1920, in Texarkana, Ark. He was retired from Allstate Insurance Co., a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, a member of First Baptist Church, the Lewis Arnold Sunday school class, an Usher and a Deacon, Border Masonic Lodge and The American Legion and a World War II and Korean War veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Ollie Mae  Jones Owens of Texarkana; three daughters and sons - in - law, Sharon and Dr. Richard Gibson and Rhonda and Bill King of Texarkana and Connie and Patrick Craven of Colleyville,  Texas; two sisters and one brother - in - law, Rosemary and Jim Pickens of Colleyville and Margaret Porter of Andrews,  Texas; 15 grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Moores Lane, with the Revs. Larry Sims and Kevin Covington and Dr. Terry Land officiating. Burial with military rites will be in East Memorial Gardens under direction of Texarkana Funeral Home.

Visitation will follow the services at the church.

The family will be at their residence, 6015 Pleasant Lane, Texarkana,  Texas.

MARY BLIZZARD

Mary Frances Simmons Blizzard, 78, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Blizzard was born July 31, 1925, in Bloomburg,  Texas. She was retired from Texarkana,  Texas, Independent School District, a former employee of the Texarkana, Ark., Independent School District and a member of First Baptist Church and the  Texas State Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband, Porter Blizzard of Texarkana; one sister, Dorothy H. Simmons of Texarkana; and one brother, H.A. Simmons Jr. of Searcy, Ark.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Sims officiating. Burial will be under direction of Texarkana Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Moores Lane, Simmons Room.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 3015 Moores Lane, Texarkana,  Texas, 75503.

PEGGY LITTLETON

Peggy JoAnn Littleton, 76, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in a local hospital.

Arrangements are pending with East Funeral Home, downtown.

Peggy JoAnn Littleton, 76, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Littleton was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Texarkana,  Texas. She was a member of Waterall Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters and one son - in - law, Frieda McDonald and Jane and Erich Geary of Texarkana; four grandchildren, Christy Davis, Jim Geary, Phillip  Jones and Rachel Jones; and two great - grandchildren, Marissa Davis and Katlyn Davis of Texarkana.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at East Funeral Home, Downtown, Memorial Chapel with David Scurlock and Rick Hazlett officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

LARRY SCOTT

Larry Wayne Scott, 33, of Texarkana,  Texas, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, in a local hospital.

Mr. Scott was born July 17, 1970, in Texarkana.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Scott of Texarkana; three sons, Larry Wayne Scott Jr., Joe Lewis Scott and Laquinces Lamar Scott of Texarkana; one daughter, Antonette Hurd of Texarkana; his mother, Lessie Hardeman of North Carolina; his father and stepmother, Willie Sr. and Esther Scott of Texarkana; two brothers, Michael G. Scott and Willie R. Scott Jr.; seven stepbrothers, Antonio Scott, Aaron Smith, Byron Batton, Stacy Reed, Cary Howard, Anthony Pointer and Stacey Reed of Texarkana; one sister, Monica Carnell of North Carolina; three stepsisters, Crystal Tremble, Aretha Lafayette and Audrey Jenell Dowden of Texarkana; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lyles Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with James Simcox officiating. Cremation will be under direction of Lyles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

JEWEL LAWRENCE

JUNCTION CITY, Kan. - Jewel Herman Lawrence, 79, of Junction City died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at his home.

Mr. Lawrence was born June 14, 1924, in Bowie County,  Texas. He was a retired Army CSM, a former employee of Lonestar Army Ammunition Plant, General Electric and More Sand Plant, a member of Eagles Club and a decorated World War II and Korean War veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Lawrence of Junction City; one son, James D. Crewe Jr., of Evington, Va.; two daughters, Anita Moske of Lawrence, Kan., and Ellen Becker of Milford, Kan.; two brothers, John Lawrence of New Boston,  Texas, and Harold Lawrence of Aleda,  Texas; one sister, Irene Williams of DeKalb,  Texas; three grandchildren, Steven Bruce of Lawrence, Teresa Teufel of Lee Summitt, Mo., and Mica Becker of Milford; and one great - grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at Penwell - Gabel  Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Wright officiating. Burial will be in Fort Riley Cemetery with military rites.

Memorials may be made to Homecare and Hospice, 323 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, Kan., 66502.

JOE RUDD

LINDEN,  Texas - Joe T. Rudd, 94, of Gilmer,  Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in Gilmer.

Mr. Rudd was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Big Springs,  Texas. He was a welder and a member of Linden Church of Christ and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Margrite Rudd of Gilmer; one son, Martin T. Rudd of Lubbock,  Texas; one daughter, Donna Turner of New Mexico; three stepdaughters, Margare Rose Hock and Jessie Lee Phillips of Gilmer and Mary Goode of Linden; two stepsons, Sam Ragsdale and Carl Ragsdale of Linden; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at Reeder - Davis - Schindler Funeral Home Chapel with Doyle Martin officiating. Burial will be in Cave Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

SHELBY BLACK

GROVE, Okla. - Shelby Jean Hogan Black, 66, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at her home.

Mrs. Black was born May 4, 1937, in Hickory Valley, Tenn. She was a retired investigator with the Arkansas Employment Security Division and a member of Hatfield United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Black of Grove; one daughter, LuAnn Compton; one granddaughter, Corey Ann Richards; one grandson, Ryan Ray Richards; and a number of other relatives.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Feb. 20, at Worley - Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Sam Bailey officiating.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

MAMIE SPRAYBERRY

ATLANTA,  Texas - Mamie R. Sprayberry, 73, of Bivins,  Texas, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004, in Atlanta.

Mrs. Sprayberry was born April 19, 1930, in Atlanta. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethsaida "Y" Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mancel Sprayberry; and two granddaughters.

Survivors include six sons, Michael Sprayberry of Gray,  Texas, James Sprayberry, Mark Sprayberry and Freddy Sprayberry of Bivins and Mancel Sprayberry and John Sprayberry of Atlanta; six daughters, Patsy Wilder of Bivins, Anna Tolison, Brenda Peacock and Lydia Hasha of Atlanta, Doris Rollins of Princeton, La., and Phyllis Hamilton of Bloomburg,  Texas; six brothers, Frankie Alexander of McLeod,  Texas, Paul Alexander Jr., Jessie Alexander, Gerald Wane "Coonie" Alexander and Jerry Dan Alexander of Vivian, La., and Billy Wayne Alexander of Queen City,  Texas; two sisters, Pauline Terry of Vivian and Dottie Moore of McLeod; 20 grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; and one great - great - grandchild.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hanner Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Srygley officiating. Burial will be in Smyrna Cemetery.
