Garcia
Aurora Villarreal Garcia, 88, died Saturday, June 26, 2004.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Graveside services took place today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2, with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating.
Mrs. Garcia was born in Bee County on Dec. 25, 1915, to Ramon and Lupe (Garcia) Villarreal. She married Adolfo Garcia in Beeville in 1947. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a retired seamstress with City Cleaners.
Survivors include her husband, Adolfo Garcia, her niece and caretaker, Elizabeth Garcia Standiferd and husband T.J. of Beeville, and numerous other relatives.

Govella
Inez R. Govella, 90, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at a local nursing home.
Rosary was held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with burial following at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Michael Govella, Chris Govella, Phillip Govella, Ricardo Chapa Jr., Bryan Fulghum and Eddie Ray Fulghum III.
Mrs. Govella was born in Beeville on June 22, 1914, to Luz Rodriguez and Francisca Olivarez. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed watching novelas.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Maurice Govella Sr.; one son, Ernest Govella; two sisters, Viola Galindo and Ida Olivarez; one half-sister, Lupe Mendez; and two half-brothers, Alfredo Rodriguez and Leonardo Rodriguez.
She is survived by two sons, Maurice (Cindy) Govella Jr. and Ray Anthony (Nelda) Govella, both of Beeville; two daughters, Irene Zavodsky Wesley of Corpus Christi and Gloria Govella of Victoria; five half brothers, Luz Rodriguez of Portsmouth, N.H., Abel Rodriguez of Dallas, Antonio Rodriguez of Floresville, Eusebio Rodriguez of Houston and Manuel Rodriguez of Port Lavaca; one half sister, Jesusa Garcia of Port Lavaca; Inez she also raised three children, Eddie (Patricia) Fulghum Jr., John (Josie) Fulghum and Brenda (Ricardo) Fulghum Chapa; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Longoria
Gilberto Longoria, 87, died Saturday, June 26, 2004.
Rosary was recited Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral services were celebrated Monday at 2 p.m. at Monte Del Olivar Christian Church, with the Revs. Jesse De La Garza and Reynaldo Salazar officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Reynaldo Salazar Jr., Jose and Gabriel Salazar, Joe Martinez Jr., Sabas Longoria IV and Nathan Lill.
Mr. Longoria was born in Beeville on June 27, 1916, to Sabas and Felicita (Garcia) Longoria. He was a retired truck driver and had been self-employed. He was a member of the Pentecostal church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita De Hoyos Longoria, his parents, three brothers, Francisco and Ramon Longoria and Martin Sanchez, two sisters, Reyes De Hoyos and Aurora G. Martinez, and a grandson, James Edward Garcia.
Survivors include his daughters, Lydia Garcia of Beeville and Angelita (Reynaldo) Salazar of Mission, a son, Sabas (Manuela) Longoria III of Poteet; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Lucas
Richard “Dick” Martin Lucas, 85, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Berclair, died Friday, June 25, 2004, in Beeville, following a short illness.
He was born in San Antonio on Nov. 30, 1918, to Bodien (Martin) and Richard Pryor Lucas. Except during school and three years in Beeville, Mr. Lucas lived his entire life on the ranch and was a fourth generation rancher.
He attended school in Berclair and Goliad and graduated from high school at  Texas military Institute in San Antonio. He graduated from the University of  Texas in Austin and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order and the  Texas Cowboys honorary service group. During World War II, Mr. Lucas was a bomber pilot for the U.S. Navy and served in the Naval Reserves afterward. On May 3, 1947, he married Gerre Gillespie of Houston and they made their home on the ranch.
Mr. Lucas was a past chairman of the board of directors of the Commercial National Bank of Beeville, a former president and director of the South  Texas Hereford Association, an honorary director of the  Texas and Southwestern Cattleraisers Association, a past president of the University of  Texas Dads’ Association and a longtime member of the Arts and Sciences Council at UT. He was currently a member of the Order of the Alamo, the German Club and the Argyle Club in San Antonio, the Two Hundred Horns Club at UT and the Terpsichore Club and the Colony Club in Houston. In Beeville, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Beeville Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 52 years, Gerre Gillespie Lucas.
Survivors include his daughter, Leslye Lucas Weaver and husband David J. Weaver of Houston; his son, Richard Martin Lucas Jr. and wife Kimberly T. Lucas of Houston; his grandchildren, Alexander Lucas Weaver and Suzanne Elizabeth Weaver of Houston; his niece, Gloria Parker Starry of Longmont,  Colo.; and his nephews, John H. Parker of Longmont,  Colo., and Lester G. Parker of Centennial,  Colo.; ranch cowboys, Enrique, Henry and Roger Flores; the ranch housekeepers, Elizabeth Flores Treviño and Alice and Rosa Flores of Berclair; and his caretaker, Juanita Rodriguez of Beeville.
Funeral services were to be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Beeville, with the Rev. Mark Spence officiating. The family will receive visitors immediately after the service at the church. Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park South in San Antonio at 3 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Lon Cartwright, Lon Cartwright Jr., Ed Larsen, Alexander Weaver, David Weaver and Raymond Welder.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the South  Texas Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104-9984.

Tindol
Elizabeth Lewis Tindol, 77, of Beeville died Sunday, June 27, 2004.
Mrs. Tindol was born in San Antonio on July 13, 1926, to James and Maude (Hill) Lewis. She married Edward Tindol in Gussettville on Feb. 28, 1946. She was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville.
A rosary was held Monday at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Beeville. The funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Beeville. Burial was at the Gussettville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Travis Tindol III, Lance Tindol, Shane Tindol, Clayton Tindol, Ray Tindol and Colton Tindol.
Honorary pallbearers were all her nephews, Jack Robinson, Bunky Phillips, Perry Morris, Kenneth Stolte, Lonnie Joe Gregorczyk, Billy Goynes, Charles Goynes, Rudy Fojtik and Senior League Bowling Friends.
Mrs. Tindol was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Tindol, on June 8, 2001; and a grandchild.
Survivors include three sons, Travis Tindol of Beeville, Ron (Jimmye Lu) Tindol of Wimberley and Gary (Marilyn) Tindol of George West; a brother, Simeon Lewis of North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Louise McCown of Corpus Christi; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Valdez
David Valdez Jr., 42, died Monday, June 28, 2004, in a Victoria hospital.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited Friday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Clareville’s San Pedro Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Louis Peña, Ruben Salazar, Simon Guerrero Jr., Noel Gutierrez, Johnny Ray Valdez and Anthony Moreno.
Mr. Valdez was born in Beeville on Aug. 27, 1961, to David and Eva (Casas) Valdez. He resided in Victoria and was a former Beeville resident. He was a retired cook and a Catholic. He was disabled.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Andres Casas and Vilcent Valdez.
Survivors include his father, David Valdez and Virginia of El Cajon,  Calif.; his mother, Eva Casas Davidson and husband Kerry Dean of Victoria; two sisters, JoAnne Villegas and MaryAnn Peña, both of Victoria; two brothers, Rene Valdez of El Cajon,  Calif., and John David Valdez of Victoria; his paternal grandmother, Dominga Valdez of El Cajon,  Calif.; five nieces; and four nephews.

Chapa
Lena (Chapa) Garcia, 92, died Thursday, July 29, 2004.
Mrs. Garcia was born in Anna Rose on June 1, 1912, to Romano and Regina “Pinky” (Weston) Chapa. She was a lifelong resident of George West. She and her husband, Ramiro Garcia Sr., owned and operated the T&T Café in George West for many years. Mrs. Garcia was an active member of the George West American GI Forum Ladies Auxiliary during the 1950s. Her efforts toward various projects greatly benefited the community. As a descendant of the Weston and Chapa families, alongside her family, she contributed to the success of the Chapa Dance Hall (La Posta), one of the first and most popular dance halls in South  Texas.
Survivors include two daughters, Narcie (Gene) Secrist of Cedar City, Utah, and Mackey (Chon) Alvarez of George West; a son, Ramiro Jr. (Mary) Garcia of Kirby; three stepchildren, Raul (Ine) Garcia, Griselda Valverde and Edebelia Garza, all of Three Rivers; two sisters, Emilia (Chapa) Franco of Corpus Christi and Otila (Chapa) Martinez of Defiance, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Francisco, Gilberto, Guillermo and Ernesto Chapa; two sisters, Leonor Chapa and Olivia Mandel; and three stepchildren.
A rosary was held Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in George West.
Church services were held Monday, Aug. 2, at St. George Catholic Church in George West with interment following at the George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chon Alvarez, Randy Garcia, Ruben Alvear, Shawn Ray Alvarez, Jason Alvarez, Josh Likens, Lloyd Wientjes and Bobby Cuevas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Live Oak County Boys & Girls Club.

Crews
Duane Crews, 70, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
He was born in Bee County on Feb. 7, 1934, to Jesse and Lenora (Hoff) Crews. He was an educator/teacher and farmer/rancher. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and graduated from  Texas A&I. He was a member of Pawnee Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Carroll Crews.
Survivors include his mother, Lenora Hoff Crews of Victoria; three daughters, Chiara (Calvin) Blaschke of Three Rivers, Phyllis (Clint) Adams of Hebbronville and Susan (Mark) Morris of Normanna; five grandchildren, Brittney Adams, Mandy and Colten Morris, Corey Blaschke and Brooke Moore; a sister, Iris (Lane) Rodgers of Victoria; and a brother, Dr. Lance Crews of Temple.
Graveside services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at the Pawnee Cemetery with the Rev. Sam Armstrong officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ross Crews, Clayton Crews, Scott Rodgers, Lane Rodgers, Corey Blaschke, Eugene Vander Stucken, Tommy Hensley and L.J. Lyne.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brittney Adams, Mandy and Colten Morris and Brooke Moore.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South  Texas Children’s Home.
Arrangements were handled through Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.
